Oh
If that violent attack on the homeless man reaches international media
Barbados would be in for a rude awakening when the activist against homeless violence on people get word of the senseless beating of a homeless man with a steel pipe in barbados -
“We just can’t seem to go forward, the mental remnants of slavery, are keeping us from any productive or progressive thinking.”
@ Mr. Skinner
To this day, some people are arguing Carlton Supermarket and Carlton Complex, Black Rock, St. Michael, A One Supermarket and Emerald City Complex, St. Philip are owned by Sir David Seale.
That Andrew Bynoe is only the ‘front man’ for those businesses, even though they do not have any evidence to substantiate their claims, which anyone could reasonably assume are based on ‘hear say.’Additionally, people believe the late George’s ‘Fish Net’ in Oistins Bay Gardens is owned by Indians, simply because several of them patronise the business.
It is rather unfortunate Black people have this mind set that their Black brothers and sisters are incapable of owning large businesses.
A few years ago, I went into the then Inland Revenue to conduct business on behalf of someone. While I was at the counter for over five minutes awaiting someone to attend me, a white came in and THREE (3) Clerks immediately jumped from their desks and went to him.
He a asked a lady for TD5 slips and she gave him the amount he asked for.
She came to me afterwards, I also requested TD5 slips, to which she asked if it was for first time filing, if not the slips would’ve been sent via mail. There is an ‘enormous difference’ between how hotel security, housekeeping and restaurant personnel, for example, treat Black guests when compared to their white counterparts.
Seems as though we probably have the mindset that all tourists are white and perhaps that’s why they’re given preferential treatment. -

There is a video circulating on social media in which a man is seen throwing a Police Officer to the ground.

Artax,
You are absolutely right on the mindset! This is why I say, that regardless of international circumstances, we could do better. However, we must break those mental shackles first before we can tackle the international shackles.

Are we capable of great things or aren’t we?
One thing for sure is, if we don’t believe it, we will never achieve it.
I believe we can be better and do better within our little 2×3 space. It’ll take Africa to buck up and align itself against the West to break international white supremacy.

Yes, David.

David,
The people of the world have plenty to be angry about. It would be better if they directed their anger at the true source of most of their problems.

@ Artax
Your comment (s) are absolutely correct. We can tell you about a number of Black Americans, who will never come back to Bim because they said that they were sitting at a restaurant table for twenty or so minutes and some white tourists came in and were served first. They were also refused entry to the Carlyle on Bay Street. We can tell that since then they have never set foot in Bim.
Somehow the superior customer service always seems to magically appear when the minorities turn up. You would recall many moons ago when the prominent Black Smith family successfully sued the Barbados Hilton for similar nefarious behaviour. For some ,Massa day will never done !
We have heard the same rumour about Mr. Andrew Bynoe but it was said that he got his start by another white man J.B. Simpson and they say that Simpson owned the complex. The irony is that Mr. Bynoe is a very pro-Black citizens and always have progressive views that he makes very public.
It’s very frustrating that we tend to be so negative toward our Black business community. We were not too kind to Neville Rowe always speaking negatively of a perfect gentleman.
We have some very serious work to do if we want to go forward . When we were involved in community activities, getting support from Black business people was no problem. They were usually turned off by some community activists because they used to be approached very “hogstylishly” Our group always offered to assist with directing our members to purchasing from them and supporting them in any way we could and they greatly appreciated our efforts. They said that the majority of other folks were only seen once a year when they came soliciting help.
We need to really start thinking differently or we would be constantly fighting the same battles. -
Never liked sports. Have always been afraid that the netball, cricket ball, football whatever ball would strike me. Have very poor hand/eye coordination so I have always avoided sports. Used to find someplace on the school grounds to hide when it was sports time. I expect that there are other people like me. I hope that we don’t go overboard and force such children into sports. I still don’t understand the joy people seem to get from playing sports or watching sports.
I have a young relative just like me, who while still at elementary school asked why make the children struggle to get hold of the ball, instead of every child getting his or her own ball.
This is who some of us are.
This is who I am.

@7:53 – A good post
Funny thing. I was talking to my sister and somehow we got caught up in a discussion. about banks in Barbados. She is apolitical and, unlike me, she does not complain or comment on Barbados; so when I heard her groan, it affected me as well.
I think she got the information wrong … “it had something to do with being told that her husband needed to get his father’s Barbados death certificate notarized”. It made no sense to me. Perhaps someone can tell me what to tell her.
Anyhow, she then began to complain about her treatment in the bank “It’s almost as if a white dollar is worth more than yours. Perhaps they are getting BDS $3 for US $1.
We boast of our literacy and of our level of education.
We claim we are punching above our weight.
Can you tell me where our bank clerks are getting educated?
When do they start disrespecting themselves?Yes! 7:53 is a good post. I see it as a confession. It will be ignored by many.

You may have a valid point.
Yesterday, the media reported of an altercation between ‘two elderly men,’ or ‘two pensioners’ that occurred at Glendene’s Bar in Brittons Hill, St. Michael.
Information received from a reliable source indicated a Vincentian male, who is in his mid to late 70s, approached a male, who is said to be in his early 50s, from behind, while he was ‘backing’ the bar’s doors, and cut his throat with a ‘box cutter.’
