I am pleased that the government has paused its intended payment to Richard Drax for part of the land that his fore parents violently seized and turned into what Sir Hilary Beckles described as “a killing field” for our enslaved fore parents. These crimes lie at the basis of the Drax family’s current wealth and luxurious lifestyle. It would be an absolute crime against us and our ancestors for the government to pay a single cent to such an arrogant and unrepentant beneficiary of the Atlantic Chattel Slavery holocaust. It is an outrageous idea that nearly $8 million dollars could be handed over to such an individual while we need these funds for our broken-down health service, Transport Board, our run down infrastructure and numerous other services that our people need.

I look forward to the consultation that the government launches but hope that Bajans will make it clear to them that whatever arrangements they make on this issue, not a single cent of our money is to be given to this man, Drax, and his family.

    On August 3, 1857, Frederick Douglass delivered a “West India Emancipation” speech at Canandaigua, New York, on the 23rd anniversary of the event…

    Most of the address was a history of British efforts toward “EMANCIPATION” as well as a reminder of the crucial role of the West Indian slaves in their own freedom struggle…

    However, shortly after he began Douglass sounded a foretelling of the “COMING CIVIL WAR” when he uttered [2] paragraphs that became the most quoted sentences of all of his public orations. They began with the words, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”

    ONE SUCH STATEMENT FROM HIS SPEECH SAYS: “Who would be FREE*, themselves must STRIKE THE BLOW…”

    BUT THE MOST POWERFUL OF ALL HIS STATEMENTS WAS THIS: “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will…”

    REPARATIONS: : From 1945 to 2018, the German government paid approximately $86.8 billion in restitution and compensation to Holocaust victims. The Claims Conference began advocating for Holocaust survivors in 1951, when the first negotiations were held with West Germany.

    The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was set up by the Government of National Unity to help deal with what happened under apartheid. The conflict during this period resulted in violence and human rights abuses from all sides. No section of society escaped these abuses. It has been 28 years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was formed. The objectives of the Commission were to promote reconciliation and forgiveness among perpetrators and victims of apartheid who suffered gross human violations between March 1960 and May 1994.

    Commissions for Reparations do not exist until they are created..

    But although “AFRIKA” is a continent & tapestry of diverse peoples & cultures – “VISION” is being sold by its “YOUNG LEADERS” who are kicking out “FRENCH & US SOLDIERS”, “WESTERN DIPLOMATS”, “NATIONALIZING ITS STATE ENTERPRISES” & forging new partnership relations with other nations on completely “NEW PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS” – mutually exclusive to its people and their development!!!

    In 5 years, if there is no provocation for #WW3, Western nations will be the “NEW MIGRANTS” to AFRIKA* because of her “OVERNIGHT” development & the collapsing nature of their beleaguered countries infrastructures & “UNSUSTAINABLE” ways of life!!!

    The slave population in all British Dominions at emancipation was 800,000.

    10% were in Barbados.

    Britain benefited from world trade, theirs was a maritime empire.

    To argue that slaves were the basis of its accumulated wealth is to deny history.

    In the 1680 census the slave population was about 40,000 and it had doubled by 1817 in the slave returns.

    In that period, the sugar output remained stagnant limited by milling capacity driven by wind energy.

    Sugar in Barbados did not contribute to contribute to the wealth of Britain because its output never grew during slavery.

    Sugar output only begun to grow after the advent of steam and that was a generation after emancipation.

    It was not until WWII and after that sugar output really grew passing 200,000 tons for the first time in 1957, twenty times what it was in slavery.

    Tell me about it. When like myself you come to learn you are the great, great grand daughter and great grand daughter of rabid historical slavers who fought tooth and nail to stop slavery from ending…it gives a completely different perspective in this battle..

    Notwithstanding all we have posted regarding our protest to using tax dollars to buy Drax lands, we have to appreciate that we can’t acquire the property without fallout. If we are happy to deal with it then by all means. We can use Zimbabwe as a guide.

    From where am sitting and from what I know, no black colonial politicians should be involved in the Afrikan chattel slavery reparations process. Particularly since they are DISABLED from suing and still work for the establishment…a horrifying conflict of interest.

    ..then they have no know how or clue about things pan afrikan so they can never win from that avenue. The space required to achieve a win, they cannot enter..

    Today, the Earldom is held by #DavidLascelles, 8th Earl of Harewood, (INTERVIEWED IN THE ABOVE VT BY DR OLUSOGA), inherited the title from his father in 2011 and still resides at the family seat at Harewood House in Yorkshire!!!

    The Lascelles family’s connection with plantations in the Caribbean can be traced to at least 1648 (A FEW YEARS AFTER THE DRAXES) – when Edward Lascelles being part of a “SYNDICATE” of “[3] MERCANTS” took ownership of the “BELLE PLANTATION” in Barbados!!!

    Thomas Workman, one of the Masters-in-Chancery, (SENIOR OFFICIAL OR CLERK OF A COURT) sold to Daniel Lascelles & William Daling, business partners of England, the plantation of Gedney Clarke III, called “THE BELLE”, in St. Michael as he was in debt to Daniel Lascelles & therefore could pay his “DEBT” – so the property was “REPOSSESSED” & Gedney Clarke died, in 1764 a pauper!!!

    SO WAS THE CRUELTY & AVARICIOUS NATURE OF THE SLAVE BUSINESS!!!

    However, it was his descendant Henry Lascelles (c.1690 – 1753) who established the family as a major “MERCANTILE SLAVER POWER”!!!

    Henry was appointed “CUSTOM COLLECTOR” (WHAT WE CALL THE BIG-BOY AT THE PORT – (today) David Jean-Marie) for Bridgetown, Barbados, in 1715 and, together with his brothers George & Edward, founded a London Commission House to import sugar from the West Indies!!!

    In 1743, George Maxwell of Haddingtonshire & Barbados joined the brothers as partner & the Commission House was renamed “LASCELLES & MAXWELL” – then in 1763, it became “LASCELLES, CLARKE & DALING”!!!

    Henry returned to England in 1730s, where he purchased the “MANORS” of Gawthorpe & Harewood in Yorkshire & obtained lucrative government contracts to “FEED” British troops & “SUPPORT” wounded seamen in Jamaica, Barbados & the Leeward Isles…

    He invested this wealth in the East India Company, which was heavily involved in the East African Slave Trade, becoming a company director by 1740!!!

    Henry’s brother Edward had succeeded him as “CUSTOMER COLLECTOR” in Barbados & in 1746 was appointed to the “BARBADOS COUNCIL”, while at home Henry “BOUGHT CONTROL” of the #ParliamentarySeat of Northallerton in Yorkshire, taking up his seat in the House of Commons in 1745!!!

    We can “ARGUE” over the semantics but some things are as crystal clear as the waters surrounding some of our favourite beaches!!!

    Too often on this topic I am reading one saying that those of slave heritage but with Drax’s bloodline are the ones who should profit from Drax plantation. Are we to only descendants of (most likely) female house slaves and innore all the descendants of all the other slaves that toiled at draxhall?
    Or did I miss something ?

    It’s over 600 acres, more than needed for the Drax Afrikan bloodline and those in the surrounding areas of the island who had ancestors worked to death on the plantation to benefit.

    Much better than what obtains now where politicians met with Drax 2 YEARS AGO…kept the business transaction secret…conflict of interest…then jumped out with their usual sleight of hand and claiming they are purchasing 21 hectares of the land for low and mid income…read…the lowest salaries on the island to get mortgages to buy their ghetto fabulous DUMPS that they always build for Black people only …

    ….we are only knowing about any of this since it BACKFIRED…..i would be more concerned about the reenslavement of these targetted victims…in the style of evil Cow…

    The Drax handbook on how to control negros is still very much in play…that should also be concerning..not if Black Drax bloodlines get what they are ENTITLED TO…once they know who they are…what is theirs is theirs…

    You maybe forgetting that many of these plantation owners were absentee. But they had managers and overseers who worked at the plantation. Some were, but many were not related to the owners.
    These were the REAL wutless ones. And the ones who bloodlines are most likely found in quantity. So you need to know who worked for whom and when.
    For years, because I didn’t know, if family X lived at Plantation Y, didn’t mean they owned it. Several were likely only the manager. Ownership lay elsewhere.

    What i noticed in the list am viewing. Many are proxy owners of the 5 to 600 plantations still remaining…, they are fronting for the real owners, not unlike how corporations operate.

    With regard to bloodline connections…the only sure way to find out who you share a lineage with is through genetic testing, the only tried and true method. That’s why i spent the last 6 years advocating, it was clear even back then, the direction everything was headed. Now here we are.

    I have come across some really interesting stories.

    I guess first, those who know no better will have to suffer through the wrong way this is being handled. They will have to suffer through all the muckups and cockups before the real expert Pan Afrikanists and others say enough and do what is necessary to right the wrongs, but as things stand, the compromised conflicts of interest, the middleman/woman, don’t stand a chance…..all those burnt bridges.

    They could have saved themselves all of that embarrassment by staying out of it as establishment EMPLOYEES…….now we get to enjoy the theatre.

    Culturally more White than Black, by a country mile.

    Conservator of Whiteness, most times more so than White people themselves.

    Are prepared to go to the grave living White, hoping that the afterlife would be as White as this here hell.

    There is very little about the Bajan which admits Blackness.

    The contradictions are replete. Mottley is currently running a war against Haiti, the country which single-handedly ended the chattel slavery epoch, but at home is want to present the contradiction to that slavish colonial policy of empire.

    Where are these so-called Black Bajans? Not a muchness of a muchness.

    I am looking at the lack of empathy displayed to tens of thousands of our murdered, tortured and branded ancestors whose descents are now victims of this new plot to use the Drax killing field to house the people in rat traps they would have to pay a bank 25-30 years for….the ugliness of shams taking precedence over Afrikan lives sealed the fate of those who talk reparations but have other pressing agendas..

    Weee did try to warn some that black self-hatred is destructive, but when people want to fit into alien structures, they chase shadows. There are manifestations rising because some have taken self loathing to such great heights…they voice how lost they are, and no one can help them, they have to fix themselves.     How about an asset tax of 40% on all NON-PUBLIC assets over $20m (excluding assets owned by Government, public cooperatives, or publicly traded businesses) & INCLUDING shiite churches.
