The internal news feeds in recent weeks have been choked with the Ukraine/Russia conflict. The ideologues have taken positions. The pragmatists have taken positions. There are those who exist in the world devoid of interest in the geopolitical machinations being orchestrated by the global elite. The current state paints a picture of a world still polarized many years post the Cold War period.

What the Russian Ukrainian conflict has exposed to discerning observers is a continuing struggle of a few powerful countries to protect and grow strategic interests. In the Cold War period it was easy to debate geopolitical issues and conflicts which came to light in the context of communism and democracy. There was the simple conclusion to be made of the Soviet Union and the United States of America with acolytes in tow to explain matters arising. Both sides armed with nuclear weapons that secured the jobs of an active diplomatic corp. 

A post Cold War period has seen the emergence of China as an economic powerhouse seeking to solidify its influence in the world. It therefore should come as no surprise Russia and China have seen benefits in establishing a strategic alliance. Such an alliance guarantees a continuation of a divided world not dissimilar to what obtained with USSR versus USA. It resurrects memories fashioned by Western media embedded in Rocky movies with Rocky Balboa pitted against Ivan Drago.

The more things change – some will remind us – nothing truly changes. For the last year of the Russia Ukraine conflict, so many lifes loss, damage to property and what? For a lowly blogmaster living in one of the most idyllic regions on the planet consisting of small island developing countries the story will not change. Our way of life and standard of living is almost entirely dependent on the state of global relations as the ongoing conflict again reminds us.

The strategy of the current prime minister Mia Mottley appears to be one of aligning Barbados with one side of the table to navigate a treacherous geopolitical path that will always be so. Such a strategy will incur the wrath of those like Dr. Tennyson Joseph is would prefer a non aligned approach. Political Scientist Joseph, the pragmatist will suggest your approach is no different to others taking an aligned position. We have to exist it seems in a world characterized by polarization and the conflict that flows from it. Could this a be normal state of play given human beings of different backgrounds having to govern within man made constructs?

    If you think about it at all, can you come up with any good reasons why our country has involved itself in the Ukraine war? To defend democracy, many say? An emptier platitude does not exist in the vast slippery lexicon of spin. To thwart Russia’s imperial overreach? You apparently have no clue about Ukraine’s history, ancient or modern. To incite an overthrow of the wicked Putin by his own people? The Russian president is more popular there now than even John F. Kennedy was here in 1962.

    There actually are no good reasons for what we are doing in Ukraine, only bad reasons. Mainly, stoking the war there diverts Americans attention from our own problems, which is to say the titanic failures of America’s political establishment. The USA is falling apart from a combination of mismanagement, malice, and negligence. Our economy is a tottering scaffold of Ponzi schemes. Our institutions are wrecked. The government lies about everything it does. The news industry ratifies all the lying. Our schoolchildren can’t read or add up a column of numbers. Our food is slow-acting poison. Our medical-pharma matrix has just completed the systematic murder and maiming of millions. Our culture has been reduced to a drag queen twerk-fest. Our once-beautiful New World landscape is a demolition derby. Name something that hasn’t been debauched, perverted, degenerated, or flat-out destroyed.

    Ukraine: one year on
    WHEN THE WAR in Ukraine erupted one year ago, one of my early interventions was to warn CARICOM against jumping unto a global bandwagon of runaway sanctions and embargos against Russia, only to appear “being in step with the international community”.
    The war in Ukraine has everything to do with European and Trans-Atlantic geo-political remaking of the post-Cold War world, and is only the latest reflection of a long tradition, since the 1500s, of European capitals (now including the USA) engaging in offensive and defensive imperialist wars.
    There is nothing either in the outward expansion of NATO in a post-cold War world into Eastern Europe or in Russia’s territory-securing incursions into post-Soviet Union Ukraine, that is any business of CARICOM.
    Like CLR James and George Padmore decades ago, I hold to the view that the only business of imperialist wars to the Caribbean is the spaces they allow for Caribbean freedom once the imperialist skirmishes settling into a new world order.
    Just as the Franco-British imperialist Navigation wars, and the rise of the United States as an independent nation, and Spanish anti-French Caribbean aspirations created space for Haitian emancipation; and just as World War II created space for Caribbean decolonisation, then so must we keep watch and wait silently in this present moment of imperialist rivalry to enter the spaces for freedom which may emerge.
    It is for this reason that I have been insistent that given the region’s position of “structural irrelevance” in the global political-economy, CARICOM had no business pretending to be otherwise by joining in a “condemnation of Russia” bandwagon, to the point of announcing its own embargoes against Russia. How silly and laughable. Instead, I recommended a policy of strategic silence, of watching and waiting.
    Since then, the conflict has heightened, Ukraine remains under occupation and bombardment, NATO continues prolonging the war, and has continued its policy of post-Cold War expansion. The price of oil continues to increase, and the world is exactly where it was one year ago, with a likelihood for continuation and dangerous escalation.
    CARICOM, has continued its band-wagon anti-Russia stance which was topped up by an address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the CARICOM Conference in The Bahamas, last week.
    The address served no purpose except to stroke the egos of specific leaders who enjoy being in the spotlight of world politics for its own sake. To date, there has not been one statement or action to suggest a CARICOMspecific understanding of the implications of the war for the region’s specific interests of selfdetermination and development.
    It would have been far more politically astute to maintain a strategic silence and wait for the spaces for freedom, rather than to posture loudly on the world stage, and mouthing empty words that have no meaning, substance or impact in any significant material way.

    This is precisely how entomology becomes removed from original meaning.

    Pragmatism could be described as a condition when practicality trumps ideals. Or the approaches which measure theories in terms of success after application. On this one, China has had vastly more success than any other country in 40 years.

    So we’re left to wonder how Joseph could be, on the one side, be considered a pragmatist, and on the other, this dictatorial regime of Mia Mottley as well.

    The research question should then be, how many kinds of pragmatics could there be within a milieu. For it has been argued previously that this dictatorial regime in Barbados is doing the pragmatic thing in being wedded to the Atlanticists countries. Countries which require, as an article of faith, a slavish obedience as constantly displayed by Mottley and her regime.

    Will it be pragmatic for Mottley not to appear to bite the hand which feeds her, the country? Or is she so imbued with the false dichotomy about “democracy” verses “authoritarianism” to hint anything but sublime loyalty to the empire as headed by a man whose senility has been many times displayed.

    Is not the academic literature as known to Joseph not replete with hundreds of case studies which show that socalled “democracy” being a failure as either an economic or political construction. Is Barbados itself not a victim of this degenerative “democratic” system which continues to pauperize its people. When will those who continue to think of themselves as more enlightened than the Chinese or the Russians, entirely based on the propaganda of the West, be inquisitive enough to remove the scales from their eyes and be part of fashioning the other world which the vast majority of the peoples demand, and have been demanding from the time socalled democracy was established as the best means by which the entire globe could be pauperized. Have we not seen a massive consolidation of wealth into the hands of the one tenth of one percent known as the global elites.

    And talking about success. And “both” local political parties have historically described themselves as socialist. One even use to have a youth arm called “Young Socialists”. Have they really been? Or has Neoliberalism and globalization short circuited memories? And what are or were the differences between these epochs of “pragmatism”.

    Weeee would have thought that countries, like Russia, China, Iran and others, which never enslaved Afrikan peoples. Countries which have no colonial past. Countries with a vested interest in breaking the hegemony of those which have, would have been a god send to try to help a backward country like Barbados in avoiding the death sentence imposed by those who’ve always been sucking the life’s blood. Where is the pragmatism in this?

    Both China and Russia have been able to transform their societies, radically. In the case of China one billion people have escaped poverty. In less than 40 years it has rebuilt the country escaping 100 years of foreign domination. That Russia has sided with the South contributes mightily on the right side of the political equation for countries like Barbados. An equation whose right side will not and cannot attract the attentions the political elites in Barbados either because they are still slaves of empire or due to a lack of courage, nothing to do with pragmatism!

    Post scriptum! This writer has never had a chance to discuss the critiques held of Russia, China and the emerging multipolarity. And there are several, unrelated to the nonsense about democracy and autocracy. For example, we should be concerned that Russian elites, including Putin, are still looking to the Greeks and the Romans for inspiration. In some ways this struggle could be characterized more as a renewal of the schism within the Roman Empire. In other words two cheeks of the same backside arguing which is the rightful heir. However, seeing these events through a Cold War nexus is misguided and only serves to invoke a Ruusia-phobia well used as a scare tactic by slaves, devout lovers of their Anglo-Saxon masters. Russia needs to value historical time beyond the Judea-Christian imposition.

    Lastly. This nonsense about some Mexican standoff is a mis-characterization of current circumstances of NATO’s war on Russia, as properly defined. Not even when measured in terms of nuclear weapons is NATO and Russia equals or qualify to be in any standoff. On all metrics of industrial warfare Russia is clearly dominant. America and Nato, for example, have no industrial capacities to produce enough missiles for the war theatre. Russia is using 60,000 rockets daily whereas this NATO army in Ukraine could hardly fire 6,000 per day and is always begging for more.

    I came to realize that’s a significant part of the problem…they have been so dependent for so long, for others to think for them, make plans for them and drop them some crumbs that the thought of breaking away to freedom is frightening, a severe case of stockholm syndrome…the opportunity presented itself within the past few years to grab freedom by both hands, we know people who actually made the effort…but some are still sitting shell shocked and waiting on wicked parliament squatters.

    Hope they know that unless they TAKE their freedom, deceitful conniving politicians will never let them go…that is not part of their traitor plans. So much has gone on that they are hiding from the people..but they will have to find out on their own. I have reached my limit.

    Leaders in Singapore actually have high functioning, intelligent brains….are forward thinking, progressive and have no tolerance for corruption…would execute you or drop you in prison for decades….they dont play…

    Little island misleaders can get NOTHING RIGHT…they brag and they boast and it’s all hot air wrapped up in dependency and borrowing…while looking for the next crook to run another scam… that is not governance, is unsustainable and will blowback for sure.

    Only today the head nigga in charge was in the dictatorial parliament where this Mottley contended that Barbados is well placed to be a trans-shipment hub. The tourism minister chimed in to dutifully add credence to the wanderings of Mottley.

    Now, we’ve had these kinds of mouthings many times before but somehow when given the Mottley seal of approval, childish zeal, excitement is likely to rise within the congregation. Unless, the population has become tired of these lofty and empty renderings, as should be expected.

    Wow!

    Barbados has no unique geographical positioning, comparative advantages. Especially when compared to a country like Nicaragua. This writer has several times been to Nicaragua, in recent years, where the Chinese are building a massive canal to displace the Panama Canal, only with many times the capacity. The Panama Canal was built more than 100 years ago, is way too narrow, cannot handle mega carriers, other weaknesses.

    Mottley is still referencing London as if anywhere north of Barbados has any significant industrial capacity to fuel such movements of people and cargo. As consumers, those to the north of Barbados must take dictation from what is happening elsewhere. Does she not understand what deindustrialization, globalization and financialization have meant to all geopolitical, geo-economic equations?

    Within this schema, and in spite of the emotional renderings of Mottley, Barbados has not the chance of a snowball in hell to play any role in these trade flows given the master planning of the Chinese, the larger Belt and Road Initiative, the global concentrations of industrial capacities in the Global South etc, as compared to a country like Nicaragua which spawns the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. And we may go on and on to show how Mottley talking a bundle of shiite again.

    On its face, this is more poppycock from Mottley intended to rally the faithful. The congregation may say Amen-Ra or steupes nuh😄

    Addressing the Eighth Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE), at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St. James, on Tuesday (June 14), Mr. Holness noted that the country, by way of investments in several key sectors, is on course to capitalise on the projected investments.

    “I met with most of the world leaders of this hemisphere and heard from the Inter-American Development Bank how nearshoring and friendly shoring will attract more than US$78 billion of new investments and exports, which will create more than four million direct jobs,” The Prime Minister said.

    The series will start to air on Swedish television this Wednesday, and when channel SVT began promoting it last week, some people reacted on social media with disbelief and anger.

    The documentary will look at DNA technology which has revealed more about how Sweden was populated after the Ice Age and detailing how the first pioneers in the country were dark-skinned with blue eyes and came from the south.

    Is the man a king, a commoner or a slave? This coin is known as a Barbados Copper. Barbados was, for a time, a prison colony governed by England. The person depicted on the coin is wearing a crown with plumes. It is, in fact, the crown of the Prince of Wales, evidenced by the fleur-de-lis and teutonic crosses which adorn the crown. The phrase “I Serve” is the motto of the Prince of Wales, who at the time was the future King George IV of the United Kingdom. He was the son of George III of the United Kingdom and Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg.
    So, is this man a king, a commoner or a slave?

    The Status Quo

    Certain explanations are invented in order to trivialize the extensive histories of black people. These explanations are governed by a primary rule which is that black people must not, under any circumstance, be spoken of in a historical context without the mention of slavery. It has become a social and academic requirement to insert slavery into any conversation which involves black people in any historical context, even when it is wildly unwarranted. Enslaved Africans had worked the sugar plantations of Barbados since the mid-1600s. The crown and plumes are harder to explain. The plumes are usually associated with the Prince of Wales, whose motto is also ‘I serve’. This suggests the design was intended to be humorous or satirical.

    The above image is said to be a slave in the service of William III of England. The bust was created by John Nost in 1700. While slavery is the popular explanation of the existence of artwork depicting black people, you will start to realize it is a deception. This bust still resides in Kensington Palace, the residence of the British Royal family since the 17th century. And the current holders even admit there is no documented evidence to support their claim of this man being a slave.

    The slave collar explanation is provided by the Royal Collection Trust as follows:

    “This man has traditionally been identified as a favourite personal servant of William III (r.1689-1702), but there is no contemporary record of this. The feathered turban and jewelled band indicate high, perhaps royal status, but the collar around his neck unmistakably marks him as a slave.”

    The only thing that is pointed to is the neck collar which is used as some sort of proof. These collars were not slave collars, but fashion worn by the elite. The same is true with the shoulder collar being worn by the subject, which is historically called a collane. The collane was only worn by members of certain orders and knighthoods and, as was admitted, indicate high or royal status.

    The true identity of the subject is George I Louis, who had just succeeded as Prince-Elector of Hanover two years prior. In 1714, he bypassed more than 50 Catholics in the line of succession to become the King of Great Britain and Ireland as George I.

    That’s the same question people from coast to coast are asking, basic negros with colonial titles they BEGGED the people using conniving lies and deceit to give them then look what they did with it…as historical BLOODLINE TRAITORS. .

    They placed the majority population in that awkward position of generational PAUPERIZATION…for who knows how many more decades to come……deliberately and maliciously…then got the NERVE to point fingers at metropolis countries and refuse to take responsibility for their sellout roles in the whole debacle….they had the option to do otherwise and better in the last 5-10 years but refused cause they believe they are too white in mind to take care of descents and reconnect properly to the continent to issue in the new age for regional descents, do the right thing….look at the mess they made of that……..traitors to the end that is now upon them…but if they think they are getting away…not a chance.

    Here is an article from an India media source. I am on the island and in a discussion with my uncle, he stated he was impressed with Guyana’s President Ali. There is a chemistry shared between Ali and Mia. Both leaders appear more “progressive” than the majority of Caribbean leaders. My uncle and his spouse singled out the Jamaican president as an American stooge. I do not belong to the Mia fan club. However, on balance, it’s a smart move by Mia to pivot towards Guyana rather than attempting to maintain relationships with the majority of other Caribbean islands who appear to lack a communal Caribbean solidarity and who remain both insular and insignificant.
