Code.org responds to questions around controversial test in Barbados

Code.org logo, Source: Wikipedia

On October 5th, Barbados Today published an article about a controversial computer science test held in Barbados.

The original article, and subsequent Oct 6 articles mentioned Code.org, the Ministry of Education, Technological & Vocational Training, and the Inter-American Development Bank, (see herehere and here). I contacted Code.org on October 5 and asked the following questions:

Code.org questions from Amit
Screenshot of Questions sent on Oct 5, 2022 (click to enlarge).

Today (Oct 6), I received the following reply from Code.org:

Code.org responses from Amit.
Screenshot of Code.org Reply received Oct 6, 2022 (click to enlarge).

As per BT’s initial Oct 5 and 6th articles, and Code.org’s Oct 6th reply to my queries (and the IDB’s Oct 6th statement and apology, and The Ministry’s response and apology), it seems – to me at least – that Code.org was not involved.

I agree with what you are saying about the changing norms of society. I have not had to make any serious adjustments to accept them.
However it takes personal growth peppered with intellectual honesty. You are certainly one of the most intellectually honest people on this blog, in my opinion.
    Peace

  2. RECENTLY I CAME HERE AND SAID YOU COULD LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE AND A BIOCHEM ILLITERATE LAUGHED ME TO SCORN, NOT KNOWING THAT I HAD ALREADY PROVEN IT COULD BE DONE BY USING THE CONCEPT OF CLUCONEOGENESIS——–NOT ANY KNOWLEDGE OF MY AFRICAN HERITAGE.

THEN I MADE A REMARK ABOUT FAT AND SUGAR AND THE ASSES BRAYED ONCE MORE ………..NOT KNOWING THAT MUCH THAT WAS ONCE BELIEVED HAS NOW BEEN MODIFIED….. AND NOT DUE TO INFO COMING OUT OF AFRICA. OR TAUGHT BY POLICY ANALYISTS .

These are acting like if because they are trying to SLICK LIE their way out of this, that it’s going anywhere….any minority can walk into Barbados and do as they like, the Slaves, fowls, imps and pimps just bow and suck up…as manufactured

“Code.org has since distanced itself from the pretest, saying it did not sanction the questions or organise or provide personnel to supervise the examinations as was erroneously stated in a memo circulated ahead of the Computer Science test.

Since the situation was brought to light, it has also been revealed that parents only learned about the test being conducted on Monday when their children informed them after they had completed it. Many of them said they were uncomfortable about the questions asked.

Government has been severely criticised over the matter, with several union officials and political and social commentators suggesting that neither the IDB’s apology nor that from Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw exonerated local officials.”

  6. Reading from page 13 of the test, page 24A of today’s Nation and learning for the first time that coconut water is white. I grew up with coconut trees in the yard, still have coconut trees in the yard. How did I not notice that coconut water in WHITE? Why did I always see it as clear? Why did somebody from the IADB in Washington, D.C. where there are NO coconut trees have to teach 70 year old me that coconut water is white?

    Note to IADB

The water of green coconuts the liquid typically drunk as a beverage is best described as clear. It is NOT very sweet. Canned coconut water as bought in the USA may be very sweet, if so it is very likely that the processors have added sugar or artificial sweetener to the natural product. The natural product sometimes has a distinct saline, NOT sweet taste.

The water of dried coconuts can best be described as cloudy, NOT as white.

Coconut milk made from the grated, crushed, or dessicated meat of dried coconuts is white,

The 3 liquids have distinctly different flavors.

To confuse you as much as you have confused our children please note that green coconuts can also be yellow, orange or or burgundy.

If you wish to pay me for this cultural advice please give the money to David who will use it to defray the expenses of running the blog.

Surely the 6.9 million Covid19 deaths in 34 months has taught us all that human hands and human mouths are among the germiest, nastiest, most likely to give you deadly infection that any other part of the body. It took HIV 40 years to kill 40 million people.

  9. Cuhdear Bajan October 7, 2022 12:29 PM #: “In case the foreigners do not know the age of sexual consent in Barbados is 16/SIXTEEN years old.
To have any type of SEXUALLY ACTIVITY with a person YOUNGER than that is a serious CRIMINAL offence.”

According to you, it isn’t “sexual activity,” it’s “sexual assault or rape.”

So, please describe the act as such.

  10. @PDS “I remain totally confounded by the fake outcry re the survey (itself).”

The children were REQUIRED to put their full names, dates of birth and school names on the form.

Even now as a 50 to 70 and in an anonymous forum you are afraid to say whether or not you have ever had oral sex. I remain totally confounded by your fake reticence.

  11. @DPD “asking the questions in a professional, ethical process is ACCEPTABLE!”

Parents are mad as hell PRECISELY because the questions were asked of children as young as 10 in a process that was NEITHER professional or ethical. And was given under the DELIBERATELY and HIGHLY DECEPTIVE title of a Computer test,

wuh if a US school district could suspend an entire police force over their incompetence that caused the deaths of at least 18 children in the Uvalde school shooting that cost children their lives….

..who is dese nobodies in Barbados that they cannot be held accountable for putting a whole generation of children at risk and in danger of who knows what…

  15. “I will repeat as many times as necessary that there is NOTHING INHERENTLY wrong with the questionnaire… it is not a traumatic exercise; it does not harm the respondent 11 year olds and all palaver to that point is self righteous nonsense.”

I cannot make that call. Perhaps there is something about these children that you know that I don’t. But you have glossed over the main points. Don’t tell me what could be done better,

I am focused on what was done and how it was done
    (1) Data identifying the children were collected. Not only names but birth dates as well’
    (2) Parental consent was not provided
    (3) The parents were not informed of the possibility that their children would be asked probing questions
    (4) Strangers were in classroom. I have no idea if their teachers were also present
    (5) We know nothing about these strangers; their likes or dislike
    (6) Some questions could indicate that the children needed help. There was no help provided and there was no intention to inform the parents of any problems that the children have.
    (7) Analyses would be performed and
    (a) we have no idea if the information would be shared and
    (b) what the information would be used for.

I haven’t even reached the point that you have. I believer that harm was done but more than that
    (1) The surveys should not be analyzed.
    (2) Records in all formats should be destroyed.
    (3) No reports should be generated,
    (4) This should never have happened.

Here is a concept to chew on
“The Fruit of the Poisonous Tree doctrine (also known as the Derivative Evidence Doctrine) is a rule in criminal law that makes evidence that was derived from an illegal search, arrest or interrogation inadmissible.”

These children and their parent have rights. These children should be protected.

  16. @Enuff October 9, 2022 2:39 PM “733 students took the test. Now I await the number of those traumatised, by school. Could be very interesting information from the data.”

One hurt 10 or 11 year old is is too many.

  17. Cuhdear Bajan October 9, 2022 10:36 AM #: “Don’t mind GP.”

Dr. GP has, on several occasions, referred to the role he played in establishing a NATIONAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM in Barbados.

So, we’re to IGNORE the proof he often presents to substantiate his claims, and join with you to call him a LIAR, because your younger brother had prenatal and baby care at the PUBLIC HEALTH CLINIC in Speightstown, in 1959, and you had a tooth extracted there in 1964.

Remember, I ‘said’ previously that your VIEWS on serious issues are OFTEN INCREDIBLY NAIVE and PAROCHIAL.
In other words, your outlook on life ,DOES NOT INCLUDE anything OUTSIDE your own personal experiences, involving you, family, relatives and friends.

You claimed to have a ‘better command of the English language than anyone on this blog,’ yet, you do not understand there’s a DIFFERENCE between a PUBLIC health system, which is essentially localized, and a NATIONAL health care system.

  21. @David October 9, 2022 2:43 PM “@Sargeant. No.”

Yesterday afternoon looked at the timetable of an 11 year old I know well and I saw HFLE on the timetable.

    HFLE=Health and Family Life Education

The curriculum includes sex education delivered to the children at a level appropriate to their level of physical emotional and psychological development.

Sex is not just about body parts and which part goes where. That is the easiest part.

The really hard part is how to hold together a sexual/emotional relationship for a long enough period to raise the next generation to adulthood. For most people sex still ends in reproduction at some point of their lives. Health and Family Life Education attempts to teach our children their responsibilities as spouses and as parents.

And when we ger that first stroke we will be glad that we have a loving honored spouse and children and grandchildren.

Because if you own spouse, children and grandchildren take no interest in you in your declining years why should anybody else’s spouse or children or grandchildren take good loving care of feeble dribbly you for minimum wage?

Cats and dogs is the really easy part.

  22. If the IDB/whoever can collect data in this duplicitous/nefarious manner, make an apology and then use the data then all we have done is beat our gums.

They did not care for the welfare of the children; they had no respect for the parents, teachers and principals on the island and then to use these data show that they have no respect for the island as a whole.

How does the IDB sees us? Are we more than a collecvtion of small islands running around with our caps on our hands?

just saw in circulation a question by Undene Whittaker asking if:

“based on a gender and diversity condition of the recent loan agreement to the Barbados government was the conduct of the survey in schools to gather information on LGBTQ population. The government needs to confirm or deny this fact.”

a copy of the gender and diversity plot is available at iabd.org/en/gender-and-diversity/lgbtg…

even the children know the government is LYING…..they are trapped in a corner and could only lie, lie, lie but can’t get out..

  27. “Chief Executive Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw admitted this much when she confirmed rumours that a similar test was also conducted in June this year.”

It is natural to assume the same process was followed. My questions are simple
What is the sense of having a high literacy rate when our leaders prefer to close their eyes and choose not to read a simple questionnaire/tests?
Who interest does our leaders have at heart? The nation or lenders?
What kind of leadership would allow strangers to “kick’ their employees (teachers) out of their offices?
What kind of leadership would muzzle its own managers (principals).
Do you think that these organizations that we work with can have any real respect for our people.?

  29. Dear Artax:

Where did you get the idea that I have a little brother? I would have loved to have a little brother. Alas my brothers are 14 years and 6 years older than I am.

And about the Speightstown clinic the people of the north have used that clinic for generations. I think it was opened before I was born, perhaps before GP was born too. So my visit was not a one time thing. I was a multi generation thing.

Not so parochial either. Starting in 1972 I have traveled to dozens of countries. And when I travel I don’t just spend much time in malls buying stuff.

UNLIKE THE MORONS YOU SEEMED TO HAVE A GRASP OF THE SUBJECT
IN A HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN A NATION

    THERE IS PRIVATE HEALTH CARE.
IN BIM THIS WAS TRADITIONAL OFFERED BY GP’S FOR A FEE
AND LIMITED CARE AT THE PUBLIC’S EXPENSE DISPENSED BY THE PARISH DRS

THERE WAS NOT MUCH PUBLIC HEALTH & COMMUNITY MEDICINE SO TO SPEAK UNTIL PROF STANDARD’S WORK IN THE SOUTH AND DR BYER IN THE NORTH AND IN TOWN

WHEN TOM ADAMS WENT TO THE UK AS A YOUNGSTER IN THE EARLY 5O’S HE WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY THE FLEDLING NHS IN THE UK., WHICH IS QUITE MARVELLOUS IN MANY WAYS STILL

IN 1976 WHEN HE ASSUMED POWER HE SOUGHT TO HAVE SOMETHING FOR HIS BARBADOS AS THAT WHICH IMPRESSED HIM SO MUCH IN HIS YOUTH.

I WAS AT MONA AS A 3RD YEAR STUDENT. AND WOULD TAKE TIME TO READ OUR NATIONAL PAPERS ON AFTERNOOND IN THE SCIENCE LIBRARY

I TOO WAS IMPRESSED BY THE NHS IN THE UK FROM READING UPDATE AND HOSPITAL UPDATE, AND LEARNED THEREFROM ABOUT BOTH THE UK NHS, BUT IN SERVICES OFFERED ELSEWHERE AS PRESENTED IN THOSE JOURNALS.

ON RETURN HOME IN 77 I GOT TO MEET THE LATRE DR RAMSEY AND HIS WORK AT THE NATIONAL NUTRITION CENTRE ON CHILDHOOD MALNUTRITION– NOW DISCONTINUED

BY 1981 THE BLP HAD FAILED IN ITS FIRST TERM TO ESTABLISH ADAM’S DREAM
SOON AFTER THE KELOGGS FOUNDATION TEAM WAS HIRED TO DEVISE A PROGRAM USING THEIR HIGHLY PAID POLICY ANALYSTS, THESE MORONS DID NOT KNOW A THING FOR HEALTH SYSTEMS IN BARBADOS, SO THEY PRESENTED THE INFORMATION FROM MAINLY THE NURSES IN HEALTH CENTRES WITH WHOM THEY SPOKE.

APPARENTLY SINCE THE NURSES WERE NOT POLICY ANALYSTS, THE HIGHLY PAID KELOGGS FOUNDATION POLICY ANALYSTS, PRESENTED A CONCENTRATED LOAD OF FAECAL MATERIAL OF NO VALUE, MUCH LIKE MOST OF THAT SPEWED ON BU DAILY.

CONSEQUENTLY BY MID 85 WITH AN ELECTION QUICKLY APPROACHING IN 86 THE BLP PRESENTED SOME PROPOSAL TO BAMP IN WHICH THEY WANTED DRS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A PANEL OF PATIENTS 24/7/365. THE DOCTORS REFUSED, CLOSED RANKS AND DECIDED TO REBEL AND YOU STARTED GETTING PHONE CALLS FROM DRS ASSIGNED TO CALL WITH THE PURPOSE OF DISSAUDING THEIR COLLEAGUES NOT TO CONFORM.

    I WROTE TOM
AFTER HE DIED IN A CHANCE SITUATION IN THE ER AT ST JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL I OFFERED VIC JOHNSON A SET AND TOLD NIM THAT THE DOCTORS AND GOVERNMENT OUGHT NOT TO BE FIGHTING WITH DRS OVER THE NHS.

I EXPLAINED TO HIM WHERE CENTRES OUGHT TO BE PLACED AT THE APICES AT WEDGES IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE ANC HIGHWAY WHICH HAD THEN BEEN DEVELOPED, BASED PRIMARILY ON A PRINCIPLE THAT DR K R RAO HAD TAUGHT ME. AND FROM MY OBSERVATIONS THEREOF.

IT IS WITH MUCH SCORN THAT I READ THE SHITE EFFLUXED HERE TODAY

I am no health expert and that’s why I appreciate GP’s historical journeys and reminiscing of certain periods.
Is the Bayview Hospital formerly the Bayleys Clinic ?
That clinic provided Health care for a great section of the surrounding areas from Bay Land all the way up to Brittons Hill; Dayrells Road etc.
Yet it was common to meet people there from all over the island. I think that the two brothers:/ relatives who were there were known to many on a first name basis.
I would certainly like @ GP / @ Artax thoughts on this piece of history .

The Speightstown Health Clinic was opened on July 1, 1953. On that date both Dr. GP and I were still in diapers.

“By 1959, several outpost clinics had been established, one at Belleplaine another at Chimborazo and one other established at Mt. Hillaby in 1960. A mental health clinic, one of the first of its kind on the island, was started at Speightstown Health center in 1960.”

Health sister Marjorie Mayers, the same lady I knew so well is mentioned in this report. Our family is still in touch with the family.

  38. Our family still occasionally uses that clinic,

When one of my children had a severe allergic reaction and needed an injection quick, quick where do you think we went? The young doctor who examined the child was my across the street neighbor.
When the Covid vaccines became available where do you think me, my siblings and one of my children got our first Covid vaccine? A lovely retired 7th day Adventist nurse came out of her retirement to educate the waiting patients about the vaccine

The clinic was for many years located in a narrow 3 story building on the main street in Speightstown, the oldest building in the town. The ancient building is still there but in addition the site is now also occupied by a public library, a branch of BNB or whatever it is called now and an art gallery. The clinic now renamed after Maurice Byer is now located up the hill at the lower end of Ashton Hall. Still doing great work as they have been doing for more than 69 years when GP and I were still both in diapers.

    I HAVE TO bear witness.

“I am no health expert,” either. And, I don’t know anything about “the surrounding areas from Bay Land all the way up to Brittons Hill; Dayrells Road etc.”

However, I believe there is a significant DIFFERENCE between a PUBLIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, and a NATIONAL HEALTH CARE system.

Perhaps a better term would be a national health care POLICY.

I’m sure those community clinics were NOT FULLY EQUIPPED to provide a wide range of health care services that polyclinics are currently able to provide.

I believe a national health care system would’ve been responsible for the establishment of polyclinics, which perhaps replaced those community clinics over a period of time.
For example, and Dr. GP could correct me if I’m wrong, but, I believe the Maurice Byer Polyclinic replaced the Speightstown community clinic.

I think you have separate public clinics from national health care services.

    Q. Is the Bayview Hospital formerly the Bayleys Clinic ?

    A YES
RE That clinic provided Health care for a great section of the surrounding areas from Bay Land all the way up to Brittons Hill; Dayrells Road etc.
    INDEED IT DID
NOTE THAT THE AREA YOU CITE WAS SERVICED BY THE ROUTE 15 BUS SERVICED BY BIRCH’S PROGRESSIVE BUS COMPANY, WHICH HAD A SERVICE THAT TURNED AROUND OPPOSITE Dayrells Road Gospel Hall, and /or also all the way up to Golf Club rd gVA

re Yet it was common to meet people there from all over the island. I think that the two brothers:/ relatives who were there were known to many on a first name basis.
    AGAIN TRUE.

THE SERVICES LAPSED IN FREQUENCY AND POPULARITY AGTER THE DR’S DEATH AND THE ASCENDANCY OF THE ST JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL., WHICH WAS ESSENTIALLY A PRIVATE RC HOSPITAL RUN BY AN ORDER OF NUNS CALLED THE SISTERS OF THE SORROWFUL MOTHER

ST JOSEPH’S BECAME POPULAR ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE WHO SOUGHT PRIVACY.
BECAUSE OF ITS DISTANCE, AND THE FACT THAT FOLK DID NOT HAVE THE READY TRANSPORT OF THE CONTEMPORARY MOTOR VEHICLE. IF YOU NEEDED HOSPITILALIZATION FOR SOME ELECTIVE PROCEEDURE, YOU WERE LESS LIKELY TO HAVE SOME ROVING INQUISITIVE VISITOR WHOM YOU DID NOT REALLY NEED TO SEE AT THAT TIME

ST JOSEPH’S BECAME POPULAR ALSO AS AN OLD PEOPLES HOME IN A SENSE
THERE WAS A WARD ON THE TOP FLOOR CALLED “SECON MEDICAL”” WHERE MANY ELDERLY FOLK WHO COULD PAY SPENT THE END OF THEIR DAYS IN COMFORT
THIS DERIVED SOME REVENUE THAT HELPED TO KEEP IT AFLOAT

A MAJOR SOURCE OFREVENUE CAME FROM THE US MILITARY PRESENCE AT THE NEARBY NAVAL BASE
THAT IS WHERE THEY WERE TREATED
WHEN ADAMS ASKED THEM TO LEAVE BARBADOS, THIS AFFECTED THE BOTTOM LINE OF THE HOSPITAL OF THIS HOSPITAL SEVERELY, AND THE POCKETS OF THE DRS WHO HAD VISITING RIGHTS THERE.

ALWAYS REALIZE THAT A PRIVATE HOSPITAL IS ESSENTIALLY A HOTEL OF SORTS TO WHICH THE ATTENDING DRS BRING THEIR PATIENTS. SOME REVENUE MIGHT ACRUE WHEN SOME EMERGENCIES ARE ADMITTED.

TOWARDS THE END OF 1983 ST JOSEPHS DECIDED TO RUN AN EMERGENCY ROOM FOR THE FIRST TIME
IT WAS POTENTIALLY A GREAT SERVICE FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE NORTH, AND ANY LOCAL WHO CHOSE TO ATTEND. THE BASIC FEE WAS ABOUT $20 DOLLARS FOR LOCALS AND DOUBLE THAT FOR NON LOCALS.
    EXTRAYS AND DRUGS WERE EXTRA.

BUT THERE WERE TWO MAJOR PROBLEMS.

1- THE VISITING DRS WHO USED THE HOSPITAL TO CORN MONEY FROM THEIR PRIVATE PATIENTS WOULD NOT CO-OPERATE BY GOING OM A ROTATION TO SERVICE THE ER. THEY WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN BENEFITTING FROM ANY MONEY THAT COULD BE MADE VIA FOLK ADMITTED FROM THE ER.

2 IT WAS POORLY ADVERTISED THROUGHOUT
THE ORIGINAL ADS WENT OUT AROUND THE TIME OF THE EVENTS SURROUNDING THE DEBACLE WITH COARD ET AL IN GRENADA, AND WERE MISSED BY THE BAJAN POPULACE.

THE NUNS NEVER USED ANY CLOUT THEY HAD WITH THE WEALTHY ROMAN CATHOLICS ON THE ISLAND TO MOUNT A SUSTAINED ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

DESPITE THAT VERY GOOD AND EFFICIENT CARE WAS GIVEN
THEIR WAS A RADIOGRAPHER WHO LIVED NEARBY OR ON SITE.
AND THEY DEVELOPED A NICE SMALL PHARMACY RUN BY A RETIRED PHARMACIST FROM THE US WHO TAUGHT ME MUCH ABOUT SETTING UP CODES FOR DATES COSTS AN PRICES ON STOCK.

THAT PHASE OF THE ER EVENTUALLY CAME TO A CLOSE

AND THEN WHEN THE SELFISH DRS WHO HAD USED THE HOSPITAL (TO WHICH THEY HAD PAID NO FEES AS IS THE NORM IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS) TO ATTAIN THEIER WEALTH GOT TOGETHER AND BORROWED MONEY TO EXPAND AND DEVELOP BAYLEY’S CLINIC INTO BAYVIEW HOSPITAL OF THAT MID AND LATE 80’S. ST JOSEPHS CLOSED ITS DOORS

ALL OF ITS FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT WAS THEN SENT TO ST JUDES, THE RC HOSPITAL IN THE SOUTH OF ST LUCIA

THAT IS THE SAGA OF THE DEMISE OF ST JOSEPHS AND THE RISE OF BAYVIEW VIA RESURRECTION AND EXPANSION OF BAYLEY’S CLINIC UP TO MID OR LATE 80]S

    HOPE THIS HELPS

I GENERALLY DONT EXPECT ANYTHING MUCH FROM BAMP OR THE DRS OF BARBADOS
THEY ARE OF COURSE SOME GOOD INDIVIDUALS BUT GENERALLY THEY ARE NOT MANY NOBLE DRS IN BIM
I SUSPECT THE YOUNSTERS ARE EVEN WORSE

  43. It’s good to see the banana Republic functioning as normal. A week from today someone will spin a story that the kids, themselves, are to blame for answering the survey questionnaire form.

Anyone noticed how a number of BU individuals on here love nothing better then to play devil’s advocate. What you see as white, they will call it black. Never mind the serious nature of this story. They lack a heart. They remind me of Thomas the Apostle. The great doubter.

They amuse themselves by achieving miniscule victories on BU but fail to notice the demonic nature of their own leaders who shoukd be held to account. As members of the oversea’s crew it’s best for us to leave them to sort out their own problems.

May God help our young black children in Barbados as they become indoctrinated and groomed by all sundry. Their future looks as dim as a fading light bulb.

  46. One sibling started her nursing career at the old General Hospital on Jemmott’s Lane and continued at the new QEH once it opened. At the time that sibling began GP was in 3rd form. Another sibling served as a cop for more than a decade. We all lived in the same home during the first few years of their careers. Another served as a public health inspector for a few years before switching careers.

    I int born yesterday.

GP can bullshit wunna who born yesterday, but he can’t fool me.

Tom Adams as an upper middle class “town” boy who lived in England for much of his young adulthood probably didn’t know head nor tail what was going in rural Barbados. Our public health service has/had little or nothing to do with the UK’s NHS or with GP Our public health service, the clinics etc. were an outcome of the Moyne Commission after the 1938 rebellion. Both of my parents, who both died in this 21st century were eye and ear witnesses to the 1938 rebellion.

Thanks . I knew of the bus service owned by Mr. Birch.
That history of St. Joseph that you gave is a serious eye opener.
    Thanks again.
    Keep up the good work.
    Peace

  48. “Are we more than a collection of small islands on our knees and with our caps in our hands?”

A sane and rational person could argue that education is wasted on our brothers and sisters who remain anchored to their respective islands. They would have prospered better if they had remained on the fields.

  49. In 1945, on the heels of the release of the Moyne Commission Report, Mr. Henry Douglas Weatherhead introduced a memorandum titled “Medical Services of Barbados and Proposals for Reorganization.”[1][2] In this he concluded that there was a dire need for new legislation governing health care on the island and further recommended that the islands’ entire health care sector be reorganized.

  50. One such initiative was the construction of the Verona Maternity hospital which was completed in 1947 and opened in 1948; a dental clinic was opened at the same location three years later in 1951.
