2020 US Presidential Election

If the late great Gladston Holder were alive he would take the opportunity to remind us that it does not matter who is elected to the White House, it the wealthiest families in the USA where the power is located- the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers et al. That said many will agree party colours aside, Trump’s legacy will be remembered as being one of the most bigoted and divisive.

Let it be no secret this blogmaster cannot wait to see the back of the man. He has disgraced the office of president of the USA and by extension the human race.

Discuss for 2 marks.

I get what poor John is trying to explain.
Trump is wearing two hats Candidate and President but he can only wear one at a time and while wearing the President’s hat he has certain boundaries he must not cross.

In bringing the matter of election fraud before the courts Trump has to be very careful what case and evidence his Candidate Trump team is privy to and uses in their lawsuit versus the type of case and evidence President Trump’s team e.g. DOJ, files on the POTUS behalf.

Think of it like insider trading in the company called the USA and Trump is the President. As president he has access to certain insider information and resources he can only use in the course of his job as President but that information cannot be used to personally profit from said inside information. So if Trump was user inside information to benefit his campaign, that would be a conflict of interest.

You are not getting anything. Trump can wear as many hats as can fit on his head. @Quakerf John is talking nonsense. But, in his way, he changes the questions to fit in with what he wants to answer.
@John has a allergy to saying he does not know. I know nothing about the US constitution or its political system. But I do know nonsense when I see it. Don’t try to make @john think he has a point. He does not.
By the way, your example of a company president id equally nonsensical. But that is an argument for another day.

POTUS has access to DOJ, NSA, FBI, Military, etc. He can have them launch a massive investigation into election fraud as an imminent major existential threat to national security.

If investigations show it is on such a massive scale that it can be seen as an attempt to overthrown the country, the relevant agencies will bring charges of voter fraud, treason, etc. and do what they have to do to prevent the overthrow of the country.

It matters not who the candidate is, POTUS primary objective is to ensure the elections are free, fair and above board.

Candidate Trump and any other candidate’s goal is to win. Candidate Trump and Biden can only use the laws at their disposal in the various states to attempt to get the vote in that state proven fraudulent and overturned to regain the powers of POTUS.

POTUS powers cannot be overtly used to benefit any candidate.

If you say so, go become a CEO or senior management of a shareholding company on the stock exchange and buy up a ton of shares a few days before some big announcement you are aware of is made. See if the SEC or DOJ or which ever agency it is don’t find you behind bars before you even get a chance to look at the large profit you made.

You remember Elon Musk and fine he got when he went posting some nonsense to Twitter as a supposed joke and had the his stock price in a tizzy. Very costly joke for him indeed.

You are using the same ‘logic’ as @Quaker John, which is why you understand him. Forget Trump and Biden, we are talking about the theory of conflicting obligations.
One candidate is the current POTUS, going for a second term; it does not matter who the person is. One is the POTUS and candidate A, and the second candidate B.
    Take it from there.

It is common practice in the US to have the same person as President of a company and chief executive. This is a perverse structure. As you know, the president is head of the board, and the CEO is head of the Executive.
The role of the President (chairman) is to hold the CEO’s feet to the fire; if that is one and the same person, then the governance of the company becomes vulnerable to bad practice. S/he is simply marking his/her own homework.
The UK has recognised this fault line and has now banned the same person holding both offices. This goes right to the heart of good financial reporting.
Two decades ago this was a big issue in the UK. If you are interested in the subject, I suggest you read the Cadbury Report, the Greenbury Report and the Hempel Report, all dealing with corporate governance.
The same rule should apply to close relatives. If you have a father who is chairman of a company, and his son is the CEO, how do you know what is going on under the bonnet?
Also re-read Bernie Madoff’s life story and how he was brought down.

    Starting where you asked to.

One is the POTUS and candidate A, and the second candidate B.

Candidate A also being POTUS has to try his best to get re-elected but he also has the added responsibility to ensure the requisite election systems are in place to ensure the voting is honest and no fraud takes place.

Candidate B only has to make sure he gets elected and if he is only has to challenge fraud causing him to loose against him.

If candidate A commits fraud against candidate B, candidate B can ONLY challenge the result, he does not have the power to do anything else.

If candidate B commits fraud against candidate A, candidate A can do two things,
    1) challenge the result same as candidate A can do
    2) In addition, he can start a criminal investigation of the election system to identify where fraud occurred because making sure the voting was honest and without fraud was candidate A responsibility.

If candidate B is successful at his challenge and becomes POTUS, candidate B now has the power to effect changes to the voting system to protect future elections.

“I did, however, receive threats online, by phone, and by mail directed at my safety, my family, my staff, and even my pets in an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely. Even in the face of thousands of threats, I always remained committed to upholding the law.”

Murphy points out the GSA is not responsible for determining the winner of an election, and that a winner will ultimately be determined by the courts:

“The actual winner of the presidential election will be determined by the electoral process detailed in the Constitution.”

President Trump on Monday thanked Murphy for her work and condemned the left’s coercive tactics.

The entire process has to play out and whichever side you think is right and wrong, you must identify the facts behind the statements being made.

Trump’s case was always going to end up before the Supreme Court so the faster he loses these cases in the lower courts, the faster it will get there.

The lower court judges know this so they will get these hot potato cases out their court as fast as possible and keep themselves out the media’s focus unless one of these cases has such rock solid evidence that they have to rule for Trump.

I believe you like Trump and enjoy being facetious (not fictitious) and riling up BU contributors. Your obsession and preoccupation with Trump should be cause for concern and perhaps indicative of the fact you have too much ‘time on your hands.’

Some sources are reporting Republican legislators Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania wouldn’t allow the mail-in votes to be counted before election day. They probably anticipated Trump would have received a several votes on November 3, and decided to release those votes later in the day, by which time Trump was leading. When the count subsequently indicated Biden had taken over the lead, it provided Trump and the Republicans with an alibi to say votes suddenly appeared and shout ‘electoral fraud.’

So far, several of the over 30 lawsuits Trump and his campaign filed in Court since election day, were withdrawn, rejected or the ones ongoing are unlikely to change the outcome of the results. Judges have already dismissed or ruled against Trump campaign suits in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, and Michigan.

Here is where things stand as of Monday at 5 p.m. ET:

    Pennsylvania

3rd U.S. Court of Appeals: In Bognet v. Boockvar, Republicans argued that the extended mail-in ballot deadline challenged the constitution. Status: Denied.

U.S. District Court, Eastern District: In Barnette v. Lawrence, the GOP lawsuit claimed that Montgomery County wrongly allowed mail-in voters the chance to cure ballots. Status: Dismissed.

U.S. District Court, Eastern District: In Trump v. Philadelphia County Board of Elections, the Trump campaign argued that there was insufficient access by observers. Status: Denied.
The Trump campaign later admitted that there were a “nonzero number of people in the room” observing the vote count, including some affiliated with the campaign. Judge Paul S. Diamond shot back, “I’m sorry, then what’s your problem?”

U.S. District Court, Middle District: In Pirkle v. Wolf, four voter plaintiffs generalized allegations of fraud, based on complaints issued by third parties. Status: Withdrawn.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court: In response to the Canvass of Absentee and Mail-in Ballots, Republicans claim that Philadelphia did not give election observers enough access. Status: Denied.
The court reversed the petition allowing an appeal. The court rejected the Trump campaign’s claim that mail-in ballots with minor flaws must be rejected.

Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court: In Hamm v. Boockvar, Republicans claimed that the state wrongly allowed voters to cast provisional ballots to cure invalid mail ballots. Status: Denied.

Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court: Northampton Republicans challenged notifications of votes that were canceled during prescreening. Status: Withdrawn.

Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court: In Trump v. Boockvar, the campaign challenged the three-day deadline extension given to mail-in voters missing identification to supply proof of identification.
Status: Relief granted. The court found that the secretary of state had no authority to provide an extension. The secretary of state’s office has said the total number of votes is probably fewer than 100 statewide.

Court of Common Pleas, Bucks County: Both the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign challenged over 2,000 mail-in ballots. Status: Active.
The Democratic National Committee and Bucks County seek an immediate review in Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court of whether minor oversights can invalidate ballots.

Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas: In Trump v. Montgomery County Board of Elections, the Trump campaign and the RNC challenged about 600 mail-in ballots that lacked voters’ addresses. Status: Withdrawn.

U.S. Supreme Court: In Republican Party of Pennsylvania v. Boockvar, Republicans challenged the extended mail-in ballot deadline. Status: Active.

U.S. District Court, Middle District: In Trump v. Boockvar, the campaign is arguing that different provisional ballot practices violate equal protection. Status: Active.
A federal judge dismissed the suit Saturday in a scathing opinion: “This claim, like Frankenstein’s Monster, has been haphazardly stitched together,” Judge Matthew Brann wrote.
The Trump campaign on Monday appealed Saturday’s ruling in a document riddled with perplexing logic and multiple grammatical errors.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court: The Trump campaign appealed a Philadelphia County Board of Elections decision to count five different categories of mail-in and absentee ballots. Status: Active.
The court is reviewing whether the state election code allows curing some mail-in ballots by casting provisional ballots.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court: In Ziccarelli v. Allegheny County Board of Elections, Nicole Ziccarelli, a GOP legislative candidate, challenged 2,349 undated mail-in ballots. Status: Stayed.
Ziccarelli sought an injunction Monday to stop the certification of votes in Allegheny County.

Court of Common Pleas for Westmoreland County: Ziccarelli is also challenging a small number of provisional ballots. Status: Pending.

Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court: A group of Republicans, led by Rep. Mike Kelly, claimed that the state’s no-excuse mail ballot law violates the state constitution. They sought an order blocking certification of most mail-in votes or that directs the state Assembly to choose the presidential electors. Status: Pending.

Trump became incensed with FOX News, simply because they called Arizona for Biden and abandoned the media house, in favour of Newsmax, since the host there are ‘singing in his choir.’ However, I read Trump is seeking revenge by establishing a digital media channel to rival FOX and plans to ask Carlson and Hannity to work for him.

Finally the transition process is about to begin.

“Emily Murphy, the once-obscure administrator of the General Services Administration, finally authorized the transition process between President Donald Trump and President-elect Joe Biden on Monday.”

Thanks for so ably taking my shift. I know how much our interest in US politics annoys you.

But… my seventeen year old son recently had to enlighten one of his black friends who had fallen prey to dangerous misinformation wrt COVID. He would not have been able to do this without my interest here that keeps me on my toes. I share much of it with him. I often allow him to unravel John the Barbados scholar’s specious pretzel logic He must be able to recognise and dispatch the ridiculous. In a world of social media disinformation, it is truly a survival skill.

We cannot allow these alternative facts and the illogical “thinking” to go unchallenged lest they spread.

Lagging is a technique to show the temporal relationship in time between different variables.

The red dashes at the end are projections. I doubt these were obtained from the model since the two curves were ‘diverging’ near the end.

Mr Blogmaster you are a studious, knowledgable and experienced political commentator so can you explain this absurd alternative universe madness re this quote: “Trump in two tweets wrote that he had asked his administration to begin the transition, though he did not concede his loss to Biden and said he would keep fighting.”

POTUS specifically tweeted that : “… in the best interest of our Country, I am recommending that Emily [the GSA director] and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”

No POTUS has the right or autonomy to direct the office that manages the presidential transition to withhold or provide the resources for that process. The man is living in his own warped mind!

The other point is that he still says that he does NOT concede… how puerile and childish is this man going to continue!

His dangerous stupidity has so far not caused any civil strife but these continued false statements coupled with plain absurdity can yet lead to stupid acts by aggrieved fanatics.

The Biden team needs to maintain their same, steadfast progress giving little attention to all these antics!

  • I read that the WH was informed on Friday that the GSA would acknowledge Biden’s victory on Monday and didn’t receive a response but senior staff was worried that they could be fired by tweet.

Trump obviously knew what was coming so his tweet in the immediacy of the announcement (although not authored by him) was ready for release.

Trump is still pissed at how everything has played out and is angry at Giuliani because he believes Giuliani oversold his chances of winning the various lawsuits.

Giuliani was one of trump’s fiercest defenders but it can be said that he is the reason Trump was impeached as his forays into Ukraine to dig up dirt on Biden’s son led to Trump’s “ scratch your back scratch my back” phone call. It also revealed that Trump was preoccupied with Biden’s potential candidacy in an election (history has proved him right).

Giuliani was once respected as a feared prosecutor and a competent mayor but history will remember him more as a “Falstaff” character in the Trump WH.

Yes, it does…. and I’m amazed at the last count, this topic was at 1,886 comments and growing. It would probably be much less if John contributed less or combined a number of his one or two lined contributions.

But, similarly to most contributors, I would comment occasionally, especially when I read John trying to defend Trump’s actions, which are sometimes morally indefensible…….. not justifiable by any argument.

However, one must be mindful contributors should be ALLOWED to discuss whatever issue commands their interest at the time, and not be confined to those issues some individuals want them to focus on or their particular narrative.

Geriatric Gibberish: Biden Emerges From His Basement & Holds Disastrous Press Conference

Basement-dweller geriatric Joe Biden emerged from his damp Delaware subterranean holding cell on Thursday to stand in front of a bank of microphones and attempt to mimic a sentient human being.

For all of twenty minutes before his sweaty handlers whisked him away behind the curtain to disappear once again into the depths of his Wilmington home where one presumes, Biden is kept occupied by an unlimited supply of posterboard and Crayola’s and is repeatedly rebuffed from eating Screamin’ Green, Neon Carrot, and Razzle Dazzle Rose in between signing off on socialist-inspired policy initiatives put in front of by him by wannabe Marxists and career Washington failures.

Can you imagine being saddled with this sad hollowed out sack of skin and bones as president for four years? Viewers of Joe Biden’s Thursday afternoon press conference don’t need to imagine it – they saw it with their own eyes. And what they saw was a man unfit to hold a mop in a bingo parlor, let alone serve as president of the United States.

Here is one exchange between a reporter and Biden during the presser:Reporter: “How do you justify not taking legal action” against Trump for not starting the transition?”Biden: “I’m going to — we’re going to impose the — we’re going to enforce the — excuse me, employ the defense, reconstruct the act, to be able to go out there and dictate companies build and do following things.”

Unfortunately, it’s not a laughing matter. Joe Biden appears in a constant battle with senility and like a swimmer who can’t swim is gasping for air as he tries to tread the sea of consciousness and keep his head above water as he slips into the darkness of dementia below. At least Joe’s pinstripe suit looks sharp.

What Joe was groping for – besides a 12-year-old’s skirt – is that he pledges to invoke the “Defense Production Act” to marshal the resources of U.S. industry behind the lead of the federal government to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Except that President Trump already employed the “Defense Production Act” back in March and did just that.

It appears Biden never updated his talking points or, more likely, forgot what year he is in. “It’s 1987, isn’t that right Corn Pop? Corn Pop was a bad dude.”Maybe Biden will activate Corn Pop, too, along with the National Guard, as I’m sure Corn Pop has a lot to contribute to the COVID-19 relief efforts, certainly compared to the political failures in Biden’s orbit.

The fact is that under President Trump, COVID shortages no longer exist and we have record testing. The only other “solution” in Joe Biden’s empty bag of tricks is to put the entire U.S. into a prolonged job-crushing nationwide lockdown. If Joe Biden prevails in the presidential election, will he even make it to the January 20th swearing-in before the Radical Left Democrats invoke the 25th amendment, declare Biden cognitively compromised and mentally unfit to serve because of dementia, and install Kamala Harris as the 46th U.S. president?

Old Joe Biden is slipping and slipping fast and he hears the footsteps behind him, except this time it’s not just the invisible elves that only he can see running him down.

The Radical Left is frothing at the mouth and licking their lips: they’ve can’t wait to sink their fangs into Joe Biden and drain what little life is left in his dry corpse, dispose of him and install their own.

If there is ANY QUESTION about Joe Biden’s rapid and shocking cognitive decline just take a moment to view his 1993 speech on the Senate floor about “predators on our streets” or even his 2016 speech at the DNC Convention. The decline is shocking.Joe Biden hasn’t just lost a step. He’s lost it. The Radical Left will overtake him completely in no time. It’s already happening now.
