At this point, this is the evidence we have in the public domain:
The woman alleges that the white tourist slapped her backside
The wife of the white tourist asks him how he could slap the woman on her backside and accused him of beng stupid for doing it (video clip posted to the blog in this thread)
At no point during the confrontation with his wife did the white tourist deny slapping the woman on her backside
The next day in court the white tourist pleaded guilty to slapping the woman on the backside and said he did it as a joke
The following day the white tourist was discharged without conviction. A story circulated in the media that this was due to CCTV footage which did not corroborate the woman’s claim. So far such CCTV footage has not been made available for public viewing

Tomorrow I am going into town, the first white male tourist i see i will slap him on his bottom. The police probably took statements; people listened to the stern magistrate in what was a cut and dried case; and the next day the fix went in.
If I was in this gentleman’s position I would be demanding/requesting the release of the CCTV to prove my innocence.
Strangely it appears that the only person who has not seen the video is the victim. She said she was outraged that she had not seen the CCTV footage which O’Rourke claimed cleared his name. However, she said she did see footage “from the gas station that the police showed me”.
This investigative desktop warrior must therefore ask.

The vacuum created by the inconsistency of the info in the public domain is the worry. Until we see the recording and the transcript of the court case to decide for ourselves there were mitigating circumstances, it is all speculation by you and others.

I certainly don’t doubt Charmaine and don’t thnk the white tourist is innocent from the evidence I’ve seen so far. What I’m particularly interested in is the magistrate’s 180 degree turn within 24 hours.
Like others, I suspect that there has been an intervention to pervert the course of justice in this case but I can’t prove this suspicion.
Maybe the court transcripts will clarify why the magistrate’s final sentence is completely at variance with her statement when remanding O’Rourke to Dodds for sentencing. If the transcripts don’t do this, then the judicial authorities need to make a statement explaining it.
As Bajans, it’s time that we start holding these big-ups to account.
I had a family member hit and killed by a truck outside a rum shop, you have never seen such a case of mass blindness and collective amnesia in your life usually it is difficult to get locals to shut up.So lets not hear about whites stick together etc it cuts both ways.

Indeed, I can understand that there are some who would wish to divorce race from the event. They would even tell you that if a black man did this to their wife, mother, sister, daughter or any female relative, they would never see it as a black and white issue. And they may be stating the truth.
