The image of the black panther is a symbol of Black power in the Caucasian paradigm. I use Thomas Kuhn’s definition of paradigm developed in his essay “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions”¹ published in 1962. In this essay, Kuhn, a Harvard scholar, defines a paradigm as a conceptual box which validates and legitimizes the ideas within it, and invalidates and renders invisible whatever is outside it.

A paradigm defines what is known and how it is known. It defines the relevance of what is known. A paradigm dictates what can be known and should be known, as well as that which is not known and should not be known. It dictates what’s included in one’s experience and what’s excluded. It defines how people should understand and respond to their experiences, both those which should be and are included, and those which should be and are excluded.

    Thanks Bernard, always look forward to reading your erudite postings. We live in a world these day where credence is not given to the wise souls who walk among us. It is something we can still learn from the old societies where the elders were given respect for the knowledge they had acquired and there was opportunity given to share.

    I’ve spent a lot of time in Christian churches, some may say too much time, but in nearly 70 years I have NEVER heard marijuana mentioned in my Christian churches. Not mentioned in a bad way, not mentioned in a good way. Not mentioned at all.

    And to besides where has this myth come from that marijuana in black people’s herb? Marijuana is NOT indigenous to anywhere in the Caribbean. Marijuana was introduced to the Caribbean from South Asia in the late 19th century at the same time that indentured servants were brought to the Caribbean, specifically to Jamaica to replace the freed slaves who were moving away form the sugar plantations to farm whatever Crown land or marginal land that they could find.

    Marijuana in NOT indigenous to the Caribbean. It is a relatively late import. Three of my four Barbadian grandparents were adults before the end of the 19th century. They all lived long lives, they died when I was almost an adult. I NEVER heard or saw any of them mention marijuana.

    While nit indigenous to Africa, marijuana was in Africa from the 14th century well known in Nirth Africa where our ancestors originated…long before it came to the west from Asia, yes our ancestirs chewed the leaves and made clothes from hemp..the slaves knew, but as with all things African culture, it got forgotten in the Caribbean. .wioed from memory and later demonized by the whites who never stoped using it.

This ancient culture regarded marijuana as a god and the pipe as a symbol of peace. They believed that cannabis had universal magical powers and was used extensively to ward off evil spirits.

    But then again I heard someone say recently that the so called Barbados green monkey is indigenous to Barbados. It is not. It was introduced to the Caribbean by the same European people who introduced plantation slavery and South Asian indentured servantship. It is an invasive species, damages human food supply and should to hunted to extinction.

    The green monkey was brought to some parts of the Caribbean like St. Kitts and Barbados as a source of food (protein) for the black slaves as it was seen in parts of their native West Africa just like the hog and cow was brought in to supplement the white people’s diet.

    The quickest was to ‘control’ monkey population is to cull them through the same method that was applied to the flying fish, sea eggs, sea cow and Amerindians; hunt, eat or poison them out of existence or turn them into an endangered species like ‘good’ black men.

Mansa Mousa is acknowledged as being the richest man who has ever lived. It is hoped that a story about a real-life super rich Black monarch who ruled a real-life advanced African kingdom that in real life was untouched by the Caucasian paradigm will be financed by Black billionaires and will reach the heights of the allegorical film, to become an even greater inspiration to Black people.

    John you haven’t seen the film but you talking bout it??? The film is very entertaining. If you liked Avatar you will like it. It was great seeing black people playing leading roles instead of being servants, pimps, drug dealers, rapists and prostitutes. I am not a big movie fan because I fall asleep, this film had be awake from start to finish. Remember it is based on Marvel comic characters created I think in the 70’s. Please go and see it before you open your mouth again about it.

    De ole man shall speak a little on dis topic which seems to have moved from Dr. Brito s reasonable perspective of black consciousness and a hope and expection for us niggers possibly entertaining some self actuation while we examine a futuristic vision with potentialities a la Hollywood.

    The genesis of the comic lies in a dual experience

    It was first a mechanism for distributing literature for the not too fish but, for those of you who read real books, it was and is a modality for the most part, “the Tome” of the not so bright.

    It takes sometimes really deep ideas and condenses them into more easily graspable concepts, it falls in that Moho zone of a slowed down version of a cartoon/animation which demands greater involvement of the reader yet falls short of rather requires less mental involvement than a book.

    Where Black Panther the comic evolved from was the mind space of an artist you need to understand that first and foremost.

    The Comic world as many of us knew it was a commercial outreach, one which was designed to capture the $2 dollars of non literati, not for readers of Kantz or Marx.

    Enter the social upheaval of the 50’s 60’ and 70’s and what was just a “happenstance”, two artists at a comic selling company, two men who are fortuitously permitted a latitude to create a black comic which for them was an experiment in sales

    They crafted a reading interlude, a fantasy world for a specific segment of mostly black readers.

    All that we have here is two white men who purposely, whose purpose was to sell comics to a potential black conscious segment of the then potential audience but who unwitting provided a black make believe character of notable worth to a few of the avid black readers of the day.

    The comics presented a place where, in each edition, its paladin, a black man, was strong, principled and successful.

    This was in an age when there was a panoply of white comics and where in that plethora of White Comics when the lead character was not white THEY WERE CERTAINLY NOT BLACK but were other colours or translucents a la Vision or Silver Surfer

    De Ole man would think that the purpose of this article is not to comment on how the picture has grossed $1Billion dollars nor to explore the continuously, exploitive nature of the non blacks who perpetuate the Caucasian agenda.

    I thought that Dr. Brito’s discourse sought by succinct spellean encountour to use the “Black Panther” experience and the Black Panther fantasy to look at potentialities of the African Landscape while deftly speaking to the past and current exploitations.

    She gave credit to the fact that the picture sought to rather relied on a not insignificant amount of African/Black Consciousness oriented material.

    Ultimately what came through to de ingrunt ole man is the resources of Africa after all this time continue to be lost and that while hollywood gives this hopeful AS WITH THE COMICS OF STAN LEE IN ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE no less important that this cinematic accomplishment, we niggers are still besieged by A BRIDGE TOO FAR.

    But den again de ole man is not one uh wunna brainaics and economists and christians who sees the ether that emanates from Black Panther the movie and consequently need to bring in the white man version of skull moountain and Mr Walker the ghost who walks and cannot die…
