Grenville Phillips II, leader of Solutions Barbados

As we approach the inevitable General Election, voters have a most important decision to make.  Who will they select to manage their affairs for the next 5 years?  During this time, political parties will try to entice voters to vote for them.

There are currently 3 political parties with over 20 Candidates.  The Democratic Labour Party (DLP), the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), and Solutions Barbados (SB).  The BLP and DLP are skilled at wooing voters, who, for this article shall be called Lady Barbados.  They are the equivalent of boyfriends whom she has had in the past.  Solutions Barbados is a new suitor.  How can he convince Lady Barbados that he truly cares for her?

Her experience with Boyfriend DLP has not been exciting.  He goes out with her but insists that she pay for everything.  The items are not the most expensive, so she pays for them.  He has made it clear that if she selects him as her boyfriend, he will never pay for anything.  She will always have to pay for herself, him and his friends, because he does not work.

Her experience with Boyfriend BLP is a lot more exciting.  He takes her on expensive trips and lavishes her with expensive gifts.  She feels so lucky to have him.  Then he presents her with a bill for all of the items.  She is shocked to learn that he had added her name to his credit card making her responsible for all of his purchases.  He tells her that she must pay the entire debt.  He also makes it clear that if she selects him, he will keep her in unsustainable debt by doing the same thing – but she will enjoy the gifts.

Lady Barbados is so disappointed and hurt by the actions of present Boyfriend DLP that she is considering returning to Boyfriend BLP.  Then she meets Solutions Barbados and he immediately shows her how she can pay off her debts without much difficulty.  He also works with her to start a new business and generate another revenue stream.  He then helps her renegotiate her employment contract with her employer to protect her future earnings.

Solutions Barbados knows that she has been hurt by previous boyfriends, and is attentive to the cautious manner that she now approaches monetary issues.  So he prepares detailed financial plans for their future together and encourages her to get professional analysts to examine them and advise her accordingly.  He does this because he truly cares or her.

Lady Barbados considers her options and realizes that she no longer remembers the harm done to her by Boyfriend BLP – time has healed the wounds.  Now, she only remembers the expensive trips and gifts, and longs for that experience after being burdened so long with cheap and lazy Boyfriend DLP.

Solutions Barbados tries to warn her about the previous irresponsible ways and reckless debt promises of Boyfriend BLP.  However, she gets angry.  Why must I talk negatively about Boyfriend BLP?  Why can’t I just woo her without spoiling her dreams of an expensive lifestyle – the fine wines, tender sirloin, exquisite deserts, expensive jewellery, and Paris by night?

I try to convince her that our planned future will allow her to purchase any of those things herself.  But I am losing her.  I try to bring her back to reality, but she is lost in her dream world.

She is certain that no-good Boyfriend DLP has to go.  But the recollection of the good times overpowers her.  She can smell the food, taste the wine, and feel the excitement of opening a present that she knows will be wonderfully delightful – oblivious to the fact that she will be forced to pay for it all.  If she makes the tragic decision to return to Boyfriend BLP, she will never know the stable future that she just, in a moment, gave up.

Choose wisely Lady Barbados.

“People talking about ISO like if it is a piece of shit concept. A known proven tool that works subjected to relegation just because the rising of the third party is stirring up animosity amongst a bunch of partisan lackeys…….”

    SSS

I NEVER mentioned the ISO 9001 “is a piece of shit concept.”

Just take some time to read and understand my point.

Firstly, I referred to ISO 9001, in terms of “taking into consideration Barbados’ indigenous and organizational cultures and how do you plan to go about its implementation.”

It is a known fact that an “organizational culture” has developed within the civil service, where employees arrive at work late and leave early; take extended lunch time, especially on pay-day; equipment usually not functioning; if cash is being collected between 8:30am and 3:30pm, the cashier is usually late, but you can guarantee they will close of at 3:15pm……..

    ………….and in general environment where:

    (1) public sector employees “march time until retirement”

    (2) productivity is not a priority

    (3) it takes a week to perform a function that could be undertaken in ONE day

    (4) bureaucratic red tape hinders business facilitation

    (5) civil servants do not readily accept change

Secondly, in many cases, the financial improprieties and “anomalies” highlighted in the Audit General’s reports are not committed by politicians…………but civil servants and under each ministry’s chief accounting officer…… the Permanent Secretary.

Under these circumstances, anyone who believes that implementing ISO 9001 would miraculously transform the civil service…….. over night……… is being overly ambitious.

  2. Good comment @Artax. It is always about implementation.

  3. David
EWB was known as a PM who got to work at about 3 or 4 am.He said Bajans sleep too much.He said 3 to 4 hrs were enough except for growing youth. With his penchant for organization and his work ethic he was moved to describe the Civil Service as an army of occupation.Artax is correct. We have never had to fight a war to survive so we don’t care about the importance of other people’s time and concerns.Discipline, pride and industry are as foreign as Lucian patois to most Bajans. The unions are at times loathe to challenge their membership about their work ethic, yet Frank Walcott did.

Did I not say I do not mean you? I would not expect you to write any comment condemning an ISO standard. I have not taken up an issue with you. I read what you wrote, and you are correct. I just did not reference it because I will no longer allow myself to be convinced that anything implemented will be subjected to the mentalities of the divisiveness. We cannot press the two piss poor parties to execute anything that will make it harder for them to access money. They both have proven why they do not want specific technologies and why they see the implementation of legislation for greater transparency as corvus oculum non eruit (meaning a crow will not pull out the eye of another crow). Riding shot gun is what they intend to do because they have been doing it for many years and benefited from it for many, many more. I have to believe in something or someone, and right now I am going to believe in Granville’s SP party. The BLP and DLP are infected with the sickness of greed and they both have lackies in the system of governance that want dealing with.

Skippa, you just lucky that Bushie in a good mood …just having read your reckless attack this morning @ 11.18 am
Had this been seen before lunch (and what a lunch it was…) your donkey would have felt the wrath of a vicious whacker ‘up-to-all’…..

Alas, ‘nigeritis’ having set in…. the world is at peace…..

But yuh still talking shiite doh…
It is of course your RIGHT to do so, and if Bushie’s being always right bothers you, then prepare for a lifetime of bother – cause the bushman’s info comes from an IMPECCABLE source….

    You said…

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Who said ANYTHING about ‘miraculous’, or ‘overnight’.
These two shiite straw men are ALL YOURS.

What other alternative proposal is on the table to address the total and complete SHIITE that you have outlined above in the ‘snivel’ service?

The BLP has not said a single word – for fear that we realise that their robes are invisible
The DLP has not said a single word – or done a single deed – because they are clueless JAs

…but you have time to make straw men against the ONLY person with the balls and brains to WRITE DOWN his ‘solutions’ ….AND to engage on BU on a regular basis…. whether Bushie agrees with him or not…

    That is SHIITE!!!
Indeed, it is RH shiite…… and Bushie does NOT mean Right Honourable…..

Also, let me say that it is not miracles you are looking for with an ISO, it is what ISO will do to the old regime who will refuse to conform to it. That will make it easy pickings under an SP led government to put measures in place to discipline the old lap dogs or dismiss their asses. I got to believe that as long we take care of a few operatives that the message will finally hit home that no compliance will come with severe consequences. I have to believe that instead of thinking all the time that nothing will change because civil servants do not like change. We thought the DLP would not have backed down on Cahill but the beans got spilled. We have to believe, but under a BLP or DLP, it ain’t happening because it is not in their best interest. NO MORE DLP NO MORE BLP.

Actually ISO standards take mere months to implement, enforce and become SOP…standard operating procedures, it is not rocket science, it’s very basic.

  8. Hmmm….so we put in a right wing, fundamentalist, bible thumping chappie whose present claim to fame is arguing over making roofs sound enough to withstand storms that are not cat 5,to carry this country forward by introducing ISO 9001……interesting

  9. The omnibenevolent Bush Tea wrote: “…but you have time to make straw men against the ONLY person with the balls and brains to WRITE DOWN his ‘solutions’ ….AND to engage on BU on a regular basis…. whether Bushie agrees with him or not…”………….

……………… without taking into consideration that when some in this forum sought to engage Grenville Phillips II in “discussion” about some aspects of his policies, he became angry and insulting…….. to the point where he vowed never again to engage certain people…….. ask WW&C.

And this is the same man who is trying to introduce a political party and solicit votes. As I often “say,” the critics in this forum are “much more friendlier” than parliamentarians………….. therefore, it would interesting to observe how Phillips II will perform when confronted with aggressive politicians such as Estwick and Sinckler.

“Actually ISO standards take mere months to implement, enforce and become SOP…standard operating procedures, it is not rocket science, it’s very basic” is shiite.………….. you need to desist from your belief that you KNOW everything.

What may take “mere months” to implement in other jurisdictions, may take longer in this region because of certain cultural differences and attitudes in the work place.

Based on government’s track record relative to the implementation of new systems (i.e. Inland Revenue/BRA; NIS; ASYCUDA in Customs, etc., and taking into consideration that many civil servants are diametrically opposed to change, which is endemic in the service, ISO will obviously be met with some opposition, especially if that change affects the status quo to which employees have become accustomed.

Yes!!!! I would put in the fundamentalist, bible thumping chappie whose present claim to fame is arguing over making roofs sound. We put in an economist, a few grass root fellas, plenty of lawyers and several so called reverends. What is their current claim to fame? We elected a former Television anchor whose only claim is that he speaks like he still reading the 7 o clock news. We had Hammie La La and all he is famous for now is hopscotching. Show me what have all them contributed to Barbados that we now find ourselves sucking on salt and driving on cart roads. If not the bible thumping fix em up better roof talker than who will it be. DEM or BEE again. Not for shite, VIncent!

  11. SSS

Thanks for making the point, that he is really no different to the rest…….and enforcing my point that our future if we have any lies with communities of this country getting together and acting effectively when whoever is in govt goes wrong.

The days of the political class lording over its minions must come to an end,we must remove the Moses syndrome from our psyche.

    @ Vincent,

Who knows, perhaps Grenville could turn out to be our champion in the mode of Duterte the president of the Philippines? Could we do any worse as a country if we were to elect him into power?

Grenville comes across as a steely, no-nonsense character, with an unremarkable personality. He could be the right fit at our stage of development.

I don’t have much time to participate much on BU, but of late i have notice that yourself and the chap from the UK – Hal Austin have formed an effective tag team against Well Well. She keeps on swinging but of late the two of you appear to be giving her a good pounding – MURDAH!

Art….tell me where and when you have ever worked with ISO implementation. ..I can tell you that I have on more than one occasion…the second time, it took a mere 8 months, small company, it only has to be maintained abd procedure observed to retain standing…and yall know how much problems ya got with maintaining, implementation and enforcement. ..

The first time…it was just introduced to corporations in the US…..implementation was smooth..

    Your turn…

I talk about what I know and have experienced, nit what I read on BU or think I heard somewhere. ..I am not a 23 year old nor a 40 year old and have very vast experience.

  14. @ Artax
Agreed that Grenville cussed a few people on the blog – including Dribbles 🙂
…. but what is your point?
Has he cussed even 10% of the people that Bushis has cussed over the years?
Has he cussed even 1% of the number cussed by GP …. in ALL CAPS?

    You have NO point.
Where have Froon or Mia …or any of you political JAs engaged BU bloggers AT ALL?

    Steupsss…
The only good thing about this argument is that you may get to see how angela Skeete feels when she is talking shiite …and you have to whack her donkey…..

Why can operating procedures be implemented in countries with 300 million people, 60 million people, 1 billion people and run smoothly, implemented within months, less than a year within companies and corporations with thousands of employees, and maintained successfully over the last 15 years…

I never checked, but am sure city, state and federal governments use some version of the procedures….with millions of employees.

….but on a small ass island with barely 280,000 people ya gotta hear how difficult it will be, how long it will take, how ya dont know what ya talking about, when they dont even know the damn process used….how ya expect anything to change with that negative aura and mentality…

  16. @ WW&COB
….but on a small ass island with barely 280,000 people ya gotta hear how difficult it will be..

Don’t underestimate the challenge of bajan brass bowlery.
Remember that this is probably the ONLY place in the whole damn world where breathalyser testing is impossible to implement….. apparently this is related to the fact that we make rum… so drunkenness cannot be a problem….

It seems that Artax is saying that Bajans are so stupid and dense that we can only be spoon fed. Perhaps this is why we are inviting strangers from all over to come here and wipe our donkeys for us…

  17. WW&C you are a copy & paste jackass fraud who is misrepresenting what I wrote.

But then again, you know every shiite and must always be right, while all of us living in Barbados are stupid………. as you so often remind us.

  18. Bush Tea…. for God’s sake……… if you want to vote for Grenville Phillips II, then go right ahead……….. but don’t try to force your beliefs down my throat.

Because Bush Tea believes Phillips II is the best thing since sliced bread…and others disagree……… the only person who is thinking rationally is him….. the BU bully.

Obviously, your intellect is by superior to that of mine…………….. so why not move on and don’t waste your time replying to a lesser mortal like me.

  19. Shiite Artax

We can only hope and pray that you are not one of the assets that the BLP will be bringing to the political table ….. else we dead as shiite.

Boss, your above rant is about as intelligent as Stinkliar’s tax policies.
You hear anyone say Bushie ‘wants to vote for Grenville?
Where did Bushie try to force his beliefs …or anything else…down your throat?
    You is Mia bodyguard now…?

The only rational thing you said was in relation to our relative intellects, but Bushie is not ‘wasting time replying to you’. …

    Don’t you get it????
    Your ass is being whacked…

You may as well get accustomed to it, cause when Mia becomes the new Froon, you will become the new ‘angela Skeete’ …and Bushie will be the new ‘Artax’ in your donkey….

    BARBADOS FIRST/PATRIOTIC PARTY (BF/PP)

    ARTAX is 100% right!

ISO implementation in Barbados will be as easy as merging customs into BRA.

The unions in Barbados WILL not allow any of their members to be disadvantaged and as soon as one is terminated because of ISO standards then their will take to the streets.

It is easier to implement ISO in a country with a large population because the labor pool is much larger and it easier to replace workers.

Barbados labor pool is extremely smaller
The public workers are heavily unionized
The unions will shut the country down for their members ( this would not happen in a country with a large labor pool)

These factors will act as friction to any attempt to try to implement ISO.

That is what I dont understand Bushman….the simpliest things to be implemented that are tried and true and already done in the most difficult of diverse societies and demographics with million size populations and Art will jump out to tell ya how difficult it would be to implement on an island with 25,000 civil servants, how hard it would be, how this, how that,,..pure shit….when from his response it’s obvious he knows nothing of the process.

When I saw with my own eyes the same ISO standards implemented IN Barbados at Light and Power, around 2009, within an 8 month period with one person who was trained in US accumulating the required info…..ya can ask Roger who now heads EMERA, he was not head at the time but he was there, just as I was…..

But Art the joke would want to make it seem that Bajans are so difficult, so dumbm so backward and childush, they cant accept a basic procedure that they will not even realize has been applied…….

….although I mentioned BL&P having ISO standards on BU twice in the last year or 2, I bet 95% of the island, including Art…dont even know..it did not cause an earthquake on the Spring Garden plant where it was done, nor did it stop any of the lowspeed generatirs from working, it took one person with ISO knowledge.., that was all.

…..and he wants to call me the know it all…lol..

Restrain yaself Art….know that some people actually know of what they speak on BU….if you want info on the ISO process and how it was applied, ask Roger or Jack, if he is still there.

That’s why I want those votes split, no majority government…there are too many yardfowls in waiting.

  23. Bush Tea

And with Grenville Phillips II and his shiite policies……….. “we dead as shiite.”

However, I would like you to indicate to me where in any of my contributions that suggest I am a supporter of the BLP or I am a BLP candidate or I am “Mia’s body guard.”

Or am I so labeled because I would not jump on your and the DLP’s bandwagon to say Mottley is not qualified to practice law in Barbados? Similarly to how you used the information in the public domain to form your “intelligent” conspiracy theories and “court scam” shiite………….. the information is enough to convince and satisfy me that she is qualified to practice law and the LEC issue is shiite…… and if that makes me “Mia’s bodyguard,” an idiot or “one of the assets that the BLP will be bringing to the political table,” so be it…………. the “gospel according to Bush Tea.”

A few years ago they were certain qualifying prerequisites to be accepted at UWI. However, over time, the prerequisites changed. Your shiite about Mottley and the LEC is tantamount to saying that the degrees of those who graduated before the change are invalid because they do not have the new prerequisites and should acquire them. But knowing you, you will joke about UWI and Hillary Beckles as being useless…….. the focus would be on your joke.

Bush Tea, don’t get besides yourself, you’re NOT more intelligent than anyone who contributes to BU. You also contribute shiite as well and as evidenced by your 11:07pm contribution. You wax comical because humour is an excellent way to attract readers’ attention, no matter the subject or if you don’t know anything about the subject. But many focus on the humour in your contributions, rather than on the real content. When challenged you either go on a tirade of hurling insults and promoting yourself as “Mr. Intellectual” or you try to “spin” the issue. But what the heck…….. it has been SUCCESSFUL for you thus far and contributors in this forum are TOO SCARED to OPPOSE you, “because stinking Bushie’s whacker wukking and he gine whack yuh donkey”………….. so…… knock yourself out.

But if you are of the opinion that an old man writing shiite jokes about “BBB,” “whacker” and stupid conspiracy theories is intelligent, rational discourse, then I’m as dumb as you suggested.

  24. Bushie

Wuhloss…..Artax….pelting some serious blows in your back side…..well deserved I may add….hahaha.

  25. WW&C

    You are a jackass………

Implementing ISO 9001 in a PRIVATE SECTOR organization will encounter much less difficult than implementing it in the PUBLIC SECTOR, because the “organizational cultures” are DIFFERENT.

That’s my point…….. what is so difficult about that to understand……….

…………. and what does EMERA have to do with the discussion?

360 degree turn shiite……. because I won’t join you in your conspiracy theories or agenda of sullying the characters of other people?

People like you sicken me…….. why????

You claim to live in Canada and have difficulties understanding Bajan dialect. Yet, you can pontificate on any issue with an UNCANNY self perceived level of accuracy and knowledge that is beyond belief.

…….you are an EXPERT on EVERY TOPIC posted to BU for “discussion”
    …….you KNOW EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING
…….you know the names of ALL the crooks in Barbados
…….you have knowledge of ALL the crimes committed in Barbados
…….you even wrote that you were informed that the recent Mottey/Barbados Today law suit was a scam

How is it that you are so fortunate to receive all this information?

I believe you troll other web-site looking for information and whether it is substantiated or not, you post it to BU as though you were reliably informed.

My friend, it is IMPOSSIBLE for any human being to know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING!!!!

  26. Artax you are 100% correct thes two jackasses Bush Tea and SSS because of their dislike for Ms Mottley and so call know alls want to convince people to vote for Mr Phillips a political neophyte who has no political experience of any kind to run Barbados at this juncture.,never heard such rubbish in my life.SSS Barbados being in this state is to do with the incompetence of this current Administration wasting a lot money in things like having parties to hand over keys,50th anniversary all year celebrations, unoccupied houses built etc nothing to do with the BLP,so do not try this BLP/DLp same thing bull shit as Sir Lloyd asked how di we get back here?and the answer is obvious. Therefore if you want to vote for Solutions Barbados go ahead but cut the bullshit.Bajans were living well under the BLP until they swallowed the crap from the late king of innuendo in2008 and have regretted it every since.

Now you are saying that bushie is a jackass – something which the bushman himself postulated many moons ago … except for the adoption…. LOL ha ha ha

As to whether you are a Mia supporter or otherwise – no one really cares. It is however obvious that whenever Bushie points to her OBVIOUS weaknesses, you jump up and down as if the whacker is in YOUR ass….

As to the virtual clown who is suggesting that ISO9001 will be ‘as difficult as merging BRA with customs’….
    What an idiotic position.

Boss, peeling an orange could be an impossible task for a brass bowl idiot. What has any of our political leaders achieved in the last 20 years?
Those donkeys could not even maintain the 400 year old sugar industry… at the level done by poor, technology-starved grand parents.
Filling pot holes is a challenge for them….
Getting the courts to work is mission impossible…

The PROBLEM has been the jackasses (like you) in politics – NOT THE TASKS themselves – which other NORMAL people around the world accomplish routinely….

OBVIOUSLY what is needed is people with BASIC COMMON SENSE getting involved in politics….

But this is unlikely, since an Island of Right Honourable brass bowl clowns such as you, Vincent and Artax, would not recognise common sense if it pissed in their eyes….. and would likely bypass the opportunity of salvation …on the claim that ‘nothing can be done’….

  32. Jackass WW&C….. EMERA is a PRIVATE SECTOR company!!!

Have you ever worked in the public sector in Barbados and oversaw the implementation of any system?

As I mentioned previously, when challenged, you resort to hurling insults and questioning people’s intellect, perhaps because you believe you’re the epitome of common sense and everyone else are jackasses.

And that’s it with you…….. but despite all the fancy words, a pig in a front house or in a suit is still a pig. You are ready to hold up your dress and block……. displaying your pig characteristics.

What does that say about your character? That there isn’t any differences between us.

“OBVIOUSLY (if) what is needed is people with BASIC COMMON SENSE getting involved in politics,” then no wonder why you’re not involved.

There is no difference in ISO implementation. …whether private or public sector….ISO implementation remains the same….simple and basic.

And with the same damn results in the public sector as in private sector. …one standard…. and ISO recertification process to maintain standards remains the same…it is not rocket science and never will be.

    Vincent

What point have you proven? Any person can become a politician, but not all can be an honest, upright one. Vincent, you already know that It is not the title of a name that makes for a good politician but the character and constitution of the person. Bad or good makes no distinction amongst whose famous and who is not; who had an education or who had none; who got status or who ain’t got none. So trying to say that Granville would not be any different does not prove anything. Right now not a boy can judge Granville as a minister because he never was a minister of government. Prejudging him before he is tried just goes to show that we no longer have any confidence in political figures to do the right thing because we are accustomed to the shite wrong they always do. Tell me what can you say about Granville besides what you have read into or want to believe about him? Tell me! And for God sake, I can fully understand your point of community activism but how can a bought person stand up against the very thing that bought them. Man, it is a conflict of interest and one that the politician will use against ya if he gives your uncle, sister, brother, or cousin a job, washing machine or pay some bills for ya. They all got to go along with the shite the people that bought them doing.

    Artax

I can understand you being a realist, but right now, if we keep on being pessimistic that the shite in government will continue because civil servants do not like change, then it will continue. You know that the persons who have the power to change how things operate have not made any real attempts to change it. All this talk about the unions fighting up against an ISO system intended to make governance better will settle down once the union is provided with all the reasons why the asses of some had to get the boot. If you refuse to conform to a system your employer wants to use, then you are the one in the wrong. If you cannot work with the new system, then resign or look for another job. The employer has a right to implement what he thinks is in the best interest of his company, and if the employees have a problem with it then learn it or ship to shite out. It is always the government who is trying to unfair somebody, but the history of those same somebodies always prove that their work ethic is shotty, there time management poor, and their absenteeism quite frequent. If we want change we need to start by changing it, not finding excuses all the gone damn cotton picking time.

The problem here is…if ISO cannot be implemented in Barbados because of the degraded mentality of civil servants and the unions….Art’s prediction, not mine…..as the same set standards were successfully implemented worldwide without even a hiccup…then something is truly broken within the people on the island, which must be fixed…..but that is according to Art….

….I dont see any implementation problem being many on BU love to tout bajans as the best educated people in the Caribbean. ….if not the world.

How will anyone know how successful ISO is if never tried…

And the time I spent analyzing such a basic concept could have been better used giving Grenville hell about Weatherhead…,steuppss.

There is absolutely no need to go to the IMF for more bitter medicine austerity measures. This country is under enough austerity already with the current tax policies. There is another way, and it is called tax reform. We must change our tax system so as to ensure that all citizens and businesses contribute to it fairly. We also need to stamp out corruption, which is also a huge burden on this country’s finances. There are also other sources of low interest financing besides the IMF. But more borrowing is not the answer either.”

DEM would not go to the IMF AT THIS TIME because they WILL have to account for EVERY CENT spent, lost or stolen..
Won’t be surprise though if they do go and call elections soon after knowing that they are going to lose the election anyhow”

I’m NOT OPPOSED to the implementation of ISO 9001 in the civil service.

My concern is that, based on the culture in the public sector and the opposition to change, acceptance by those who will be affected may be difficult.

Computerization, for example, is also SIMPLE and BASIC. I worked for a statutory corporation that decided to computerize its operations. Rather than view computerization as an improvement in operations, the older employees were diametrically opposed to transitioning from writing to entering information in a computer program. They saw the computer as a threat to their employment.

I, in conjunction with management and the Data Processing Department, organized basic computer courses for employees. Many were reluctant to attend. I also encouraged the younger employees to enroll at institutions such as BCC, to pursue courses in information technology, data processing or even computer science. None of them took my advice.

If you visit that department today, many of those people I left there as Clerk/Typist or Clerical Officer, are STILL employed in those positions and are NOT “computer literate.” And there is still a RESISTANCE to change. They only learned enough about the computer to do their job. The office is filled with filing cabinets because rather than computerizing the processing of clients’ data, the information is written and filed.

In 2017, when the computer is successfully used in the private sector………. an unemployed individual has to register at the unemployment office in Culloden Road, and then trek to Warrens to register with the Unemployment Bureau. Before registering a vehicle at Licensing Authority, one has to apply for a “weight certificate,” which in these times, is written by the clerk. So, imagine that clerk, in the age of computers, having to write 50 or more certificates PER day.

Computers in the public sector and it takes NIS 6 months to process a claim or the police 5 weeks to process a certificate of character. No matter how many computers are in a department, the employees seem to find a way to prolong the duration of a process than it would normally take.

My point is there is an attitude endemic in the public sector that is opposed to changing the status quo that prevailed within that sector for several years.

And until we go about SYSTEMATICALLY CHANGING that attitude, implementing ISO 9001 will be an attempt in futility.

But I’m all for ISO 9001.

You are a jackass but a BLOODY LIAR as well.

Where did I mention ISO 9001 “CANNOT be implemented in Barbados because of the degraded mentality of civil servants and the unions?”

Let me state for the record that I’m NOT opposed to ISO 9001.

The OPPOSITION to CHANGE is an attitude that is endemic in the public sector. My concern is how will the implementation of ISO 9001 be affected if this attitude is not changed.

That’s why I’m advocating for a SYSTEMATIC change in that attitude. Then the service will REAP the BENEFITS ISO 9001 has to offer, and we will see an IMPROVEMENT in productivity and the delivery of goods and services.

1.Which public service in the Caribbean is using ISO?

2.Which small island developing state has successfully implemented ISO?

What are the factors that are preventing others Caribbean countries and small island developing states from implementing (or trying to) ISO in their public services?

Art….ya will not even know when it’s happening….the transition to ISO certification is that smooth it will not even cause a ripple……the hardest part is information gathering…and anyone trained in that aspect as BL&P was extremely lucky to find as the person was on the island at the time….makes it a cakewalk..

The process does not have any effects on day to day operations….whether in government or public sector, employees do not even realize the transition has taken place.

So I dont know why anyone would even consider fighting it…..it’s mystifying to say the least, read ya own post again and see how you described resistance to change, I just worded it differently, but it means the same thing.

How the heck I get a jackass? The real jackass on here is your defending of Mottley regardless. I have said many times that this woman could be, this woman might be, this woman would be, but then I change my mind when the shite decided to boot Maria Agard out of the party. You think the way she went about it was right, especially when she never move a muscle to deal with the horsemen that showed her the greatest dissent? All of them only going along with her because they asses need to get back into the money. Mottley is no saint, boy. Mottley, if she wants could easily be a leader with a difference, but the rouge in she makes her lean too often to her dark, indifferent side. I do not know why you do not stop side stepping the BLP’s part in the economic mess. You think them was borrowing through their teeth, and thieving with smiling, straight faces for nothing. How many thieving accusations went their way? Man wake to shite up. I supporting Granville for change, and if he turns out to be like the Bees or Dees, when his turn come, then I will say he is just as deceitful and wicked as these two spiteul ass parties.

I got your point. I hope you read what I wrote and understand mine. Let me repeat, sweety, I can no longer allow myself to believe that nothing new can be implemented into the government system because it will be rejected, tampered with or circumvent because dividers are opposed to change. I have to believe in at least one person to bring about change because I cannot believe that where the BLP and DLP party are concerned. These people in these parties are in it for what they can get out of it, even though I will give the BLP a little more lead way in doing a bit more for Barbadians as a whole. However, that does not take away from the fact that both does thief. You want to know where my evidence is coming from? Check the auditor general’s reports under both parties. And, check the way how none of the parties does not ever address the issues highlighted.

It can change Artax, I have to believe this.
