The BU household has followed Minister Ronald Jones tenure in government with a bemused interest. He was the favoured โ€˜deputyโ€™ Prime Minister Freundel Stuart turned to until he associated himself with the Eager 11 and was summarily demoted in the pecking order with a Stuart โ€˜look and feelโ€™ in Richard Sealy his preferred replacement.ย  Controversy after controversy has bedevilled Jonesโ€™ tenure with the Alexandra School mess featuring Jeff Broomes and the Combermere School environmental mess the rock on which his legacy will be built when he demits office, soon.

If the traditional media was not the lazy taker of news that it is another embarrassing event playing out at the St. Leonards Secondary School would be newsworthy enough to crowd the airwaves. As is the norm the politicians continue to control the media narrative.

In March of this year the Nation newspaper reported that the St. Leonardโ€™s Board of Management had resigned en masse! An unusual event in any circumstances that warranted a closer examination by ALL stakeholders. The relevant articles (embedded in this blog) suggested the reason for the resignation was because of political interference. Why would the PTA and the citizenry at large not have stridently responded to the revelation by the newspaper? Why would Chairman Ricardo Harrison quietly resign without accepting responsibility to expose the issues in the publicโ€™s interest, electing to sweep them under the proverbial rug when he was questioned?

Clearly the previous Board (Ricardo Harrison, Chairman, David Morris, Guyson Mayers, Senator Reginald Hunte, Pearson Bovell, Timothy Small, Cheryl Sinckler and Pastor Winston Harris) resigned in a reaction to being summons to the ministry by Minister Ronald Jones and what transpired therein. It is difficult to understand why the recently appointed Denise White to the post of Secretary Treasurer has been allowed to do as she pleases by forcing the resignation of a โ€˜wholeโ€™โ€™ Board of management. It begs the question what is happening between the sheets! Denise White White is the side piece of who again?

We request the traditional media to use its resources to investigate the following:-

  • Why was Denise White, Secretary Treasurer allowed to report the Board to the minister which was actively investigating a grievance concerning the secretary typist at the centre of the dispute?
  • On what grounds did the minister of education Ronald Jones admonish the Board if from all reports the Board followed protocol?
  • How many individuals has Denise White been allowed to upset at St. Leonards and outside with her garrulous behaviour?
  • Why has Denise White been allowed to verbally and physically harass the clerk typist at the centre of the dispute? For example, why must the clerk typist ask Denise White for permission to leave the compound to go to lunch? Is it true the clerk typist was physically assaulted by Denise White -grabbed her phone?
  • Who gave Denise White permission to remove the clerk typist from her accustomed place of work and relocated her to another office?
  • Did Denise White make the porter park the school vehicle to reduce the gas bill and have him ride a bicycle to the bank to deposit money to the schoolโ€™s bank account?
  • Who gave Denise White the authority to dismiss the clerk typist WITHOUT the full consent of the Board of Management? Is Denise White CLOSE to Minister Ronald Jones?

BU was reliably informed that three members of the previous Board of Management voluntarily was part of the delegation of the two unions (NUPW, BSTU) involved in representing the clerk typist. It is noteworthy the new Board (Claudette Moseley-Clarke Chairman, Faye Lloyd Weekes, PTA rep, Chris Baird, Sylton Blenman โ€ฆ) of management was represented by THREE lawyers at the meeting held at the ministry of education.

The clerk typist is reported to have been employed at the school for three years and Denise White about four months before the ruction started. One has to wonder if there were no unions the extent to which workers would be more victimized. The BU household regards the role of the unions as very important to ensuring that equilibrium is maintained between labour and capital. It serves the agenda of the political class to take pot shots at the figure heads of the major unions in Barbados, McDowall, Redman, Moore, Franklyn. It is often forgotten that many who are members of the political class started their careers as unionists.

  1. Former Prime Minister, Owen Arthur, once referred to members of the then DLP opposition as wild boys. I was critical of Arthur for that statement but now seeing the DLP in government, I must really apologise to him. It would appear that he understood and knew them far better than most Bajans.

If you take a look a the operations of the statutory boards appointed by this present administration, it would appear that the Government sought out as many of that wild boy ilk as they could find and populated those boards.

  2. Maybe bush tea is right ….every time a black person is mistreated it is by a white

  3. Last week St. Michael’s, this week St. Leonard’s wunnah can’t even manage the small local potatoes and wunnah want to have a BCP for Bajans stranded in hurricane ravaged islands ……pleeze

  4. Dont we discuss race on almost every bog?

    #steuspe

  5. What a waste of time these unions are….
How could an issue be more fundamentally FLAWED than this….

But then again…. this is brass bowl land….

  6. Ronald Jones is the best Minister of Education Barbados has had.

He has overseen some of the most transformative changes in Barbados educational system.

Kudos to this great son of the soil.

Bush Tea is just jealous of Jones’ accomplishments !!!

  7. By any yardstick Jones is the worst minister of education to have taken the job in the post Independence period. What transformative polices has he implemented? Have a chat with any teacher, especially the senior ones who are lining up to leave the service, and hear their responses.

  8. Ok David

I see you have a vendetta against Jones .

I will leave it there , for now .

  9. Only against incompetence!

Why did Stuart replace him with Sealy to act when he is out of country?

  10. Am beginning to think Fractured BLP must be involved in the importation of drugs. No-one could be that constantly high on something that creates such delusions unless they had easy and constant access to mind altering substances.

  11. Talking hurricane names for 2017

Not sure if the authorities factored this into their decision when choosing the names for 2017

    First it was – IRMA

    Then comes along – MARIA

Take away the second ” A” from ….MARIA

And yes you are right ……..we have………IRMA…..Again ….!!!!๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

  12. How about DENISE!

  13. To your last question David

Ronald Jones was replaced by Mr. Sneaky because of Jones zeal for the Ministry of Education – he found it difficult to manage the ministry and the duties of acting PM – the 100 % manner he had hoped for.

So he opted out of the acting PM role

    No fuss no bad blood

Jones is still a tower of strength in the Cabinet of Barbados and in his ministry.

Ya lie,…Jones was part of the Eager 11 and their chicken coup to overthrow Fruendel and he got punished for it, no more acting deputy pm….. even I know that.

  15. David posits that Stuart called on Sealy to replace Jones to act as prime minister in his absence. The Prime minister already behaves as if he is in a care taker position, so how hard or important can acting as his deputy be? This is an administration where all parts are interchangeable. If Kellman were to take over finance tomorrow, and Steve Brackett assumed responsibility for food, fisheries and agriculture, would anybody notice? Me thinks not. Why is that? Short answer is that everything these heifers touch has been replete with mistakes and missteps….the confusion that followed Kadooment that some called CARIFIESTA being the latest case in point. What we have is an administration that operates by trial and error. Mas casualty situation resulting from shooting incident at Kadooment. Our Attorney General blamed his late response on a claim that his phone was inoperable. Gripped and almost paralyzed by a series of gun related murders citizens expected to hear from their leaders what plan of action would be implemented. Instead they were told that the social stature of Mia Motley should disqualify her as a leader of Barbados. This comes from a party that snubbed St Michael South Central. We elected Humble Larry……upon us was foisted Haughty Dick… and all was seen as good as gold..ya just can’t make this shite up.

  16. David

A good video clip of his Majesty Freundel Jerome Stuart

a.k.a King of the twenty – nine ( 29 ) fellas. That is the other 29 MPs !!

Thanks a million for Sharing it .

  17. LOL @ Fractured
    Boss…
That is the very personification of “inept, pathetic, shabby, dishonest and shiity….”

Look at the dress, the presentation, the amateurish false promises …. and it becomes clear that we are being served by rejects and second rate clowns, who clearly could not manage to pass the damn 11+…
While ‘Barbados scholars’ hide away overseas, loitering on the doorsteps of the albino-centrics ….or are here in Barbados snooping around in cemeteries …digging up Quaker bones and trying to glorify brutal slavery by suggesting that blacks are less than human…

Cut off the head (scholars)…and the ass takes over….

  18. Mr.integrity himself promised he would deliver this piece of legislation just like the other promise he made post last general election about addressing electoral irregularities. Is it any wonder members of his cabinet are doing as they like?

  19. David he is going his best in the circumstances

I am sure you are aware he had to deal with other pressing matters like

โ€ข Tropical Storm Harvey & Hurricane Irma

โ€ข Trade Union & Private Sector industrial unrest

โ€ข And unreasonable social media outlets like yours

But the promised legislation will be coming for sure

    Just have some more patience…..

  20. Sure, tell him he can take a few more months.

  21. Show me a lackey on this blog who would be willing to pledge the appointment of Mr Integrity or ANY one of his fellow Incompetents as a director in a company owned by the same lackey, after the next election? I’m not talking about saying one thing but knowing in your heart that you would do something else. Not even to run a rum shop, not if you want it to be run successfully.

  22. While we are at it we ask minister Jones how are tenders for school snackettes awarded, especially the one at HC.

    Pack of corrupt JAs!

  23. This article could fit right in the archives of Naked Departure. David yes, please bring more of this smut, you’ll get more traffic. Tell us please, who is Denise White the side chick of? Someone spell it out for me, and I want evidence.

  24. @Kevin

Dont expect you to agree, after all it is attacking your people. If you want smut -ask Minister Jones how is child mother ended up running the scackette at HC. Keep tugging our chain and you will get the smut you want.

    #JA

  25. I want the smut details on why car seats and tires were slashed. I want the smut details on vampires and why a lady who was at the Pine ended up in Martindales Road. I want the smut details on why a former AG had to run and go to another Caribbean island to save that woman. I want all the smut details, please…. No picking and choosing here.

  26. Search BU archives and you should find what you want. Start with Kerri Symmonds.

  27. What about the rest? Anyways, if the board at St. Leonards resigns because an individual thats causing strife seems untouchable, then the Principal in conjunction with the Minister should try to mesh out the issue. Maybe this Denise is part of a union too. How about that? Minister Jones overall tenure as Education Minister is very good. I and even a the opportunistic Tuesday moderator at VOB give him high marks. Those two examples showing Jones so called incompetency is very weak. The eager-11 issue was quashed when Stuart lead the DLP to victory in 2013. He has his rightful place as leader and has his mandate. Why dont you all study the Judases within the hive that dethroned the Queen….All of them are still there and are quite willing to do it again….

  28. Some people amaze me. #incompetentcorrupt&arrogant

  29. Let us understand what you are saying old boy. Because a Tuesday moderator says so is so? This is Murray?

If you have information please share and stop posting parables.

Jones is the worst Minister of Education we have had this side of Independence. The BU household says so!

  30. Is this an exclusive club – the BU household ?How do you gain entry? By wearing red? Anyways, its surprising you dont know who the Tuesday moderator is….

  31. Kevin

Some evidence please. Reforms, teacher improvement, teaching improvement, better classrooms, new curricula, etc etc? Thanks.

  32. @Kevin

Believe or not the BU household does not set the clock to the call in show.

Are we discussing the minister who sat on a report that led to a waste of $600,000 in a Waterman Commission? Then there is a cellphone ban in the schools which no school paid attention? A minister who promised to rollout a cellphone policy this tern only to claw back from it?

  33. David

Now you understand why the proliferation of statutory boards. There is little or no accountability and the politicians from both sides like it so.

  34. David

Kevin is being the partisan hack that he is.

The Tuesday moderator never said that Jones was the best MOE……..on the contrary…..he called him the worse MOE.

A regular caller, a former dem named Wesley said that on the program and Peter vehemently disagreed and went on to list the many blunders that the minister has made.

  35. Ronald Jones’ legacy would be that he destroyed the moral of the MOE and turned it into a poltical hot bed……….just talk to any education official.

These dems were not ready to be a government to lead anyone. They fooled Barbadians. They are incompetent and inept.

Every job in the education field became political………..every appointment for a principal, every senior teacher, head of department appointment……… this minister and his mop head (in over her head) CEO…..they had to have a hand in.

This CEO should never have been in that position in the first place……..you take a primary school teacher and put her in charge of secondary schools….how smart is that?

This minister and his lackies put so much pressure on the former CEO, that for the sake of his sanity and health, the man ran home.

It is going to take a herculean task to rebuild the MOE and restore confidence in those entrusted to educate our children.

    Damn the dems.

  36. *morale

  37. Oh yes prodigal that true there, thanks. I got it mixed up. It was Wes. So what if the new cell phone phone policy was postponed. The Minister listened to the concerns of many and decide to go postpone it. Now thats a good Minister.

  38. @David, take your pick 1) $600 thousand in the Waterman Commission which lead to an outcome that brough back normalcy, or 2) $60 million trying to turn a national park into a dump.

  39. @Kevin

Your mind seems Warp as to the DLP, so you should know very few DLP MP, and yard-fowls, get the warp mind FIX, when the DLP is KICK into opposition. Two former MPs that got Knighthood, warp minds could not remember a fork, spoon, cup or if they eat or drink, for months before death. when last, did you hear or saw Sir Lloyd?

  40. Last time I saw and hear Sir Lloyd is when he made the ‘How did we get back here’ comments. Why you asking?

  41. Now HEAR THIS PRODIGAL CALLING SOME BODY a PARTISAN HACK . WUH LOSS MUH BELLY
The BLP Partisan Hack that Prodigal is ! believes that the people forget the Alexander Mess formed under the blp govt that took fourteen years to be resolved only to be resolved by he present govt. guh long do prodigal

  42. @Fractured BLP September 17, 2017 at 2:19 PM “Ronald Jones is the best Minister of Education Barbados has had. He has overseen some of the most transformative changes in Barbados educational system. Kudos to this great son of the soil.”

Do you know that it is still illegal to use the substance that you have been smoking?

  43. Poor Watchman sitting in front de computer waiting and waiting for present govt to be kicked out, Poor Watchman have not realized that his blp party does not have a credible leader , Watchman rubbing shoulders and marches not going to work.
First step is finding a leader with credibility

  44. @Hamilton A Hill September 17, 2017 at 6:37 PM “If Kellman were to take over finance tomorrow, and Steve Brackett assumed responsibility for food, fisheries and agriculture, would anybody notice? Me thinks not. Why is that? Short answer is that everything these heifers touch”

Somebody has to speak up on behalf of the innocent female cows of this world.

Please do not compare kellman, Blackett et. al. with innocent heifers

  45. @Fractured BLP September 17, 2017 at 9:44 PM “David he is going his best in the circumstances. I am sure you are aware he had to deal with other pressing matters like. Tropical Storm Harvey & Hurricane Irma.”

Can you tell me EXACTLY what tasks the Prime Minister had to do in order to “deal” with Harvey and Irma? And can you tell me EXACTLY how many minutes he spent on those tasks?

  46. @David September 18, 2017 at 6:14 PM “Dont expect you to agree, after all it is attacking your people. If you want smut -ask Minister Jones how is child mother ended up running the scackette at HC.”

I am no big fan of Jones, or of politicians generally.

But truthfully the only questions should be.

    Can she cook really well?

Is she delivering nutritious, tasty food at a fair price?

  47. Kevin

If by saying, “oh yes prodigal that true” mean you not to far warp, so remember yard-fowl Wesley moved from the DLP muddy yard to a shitty board, and fall off.

โ€œNow you understand why the proliferation of statutory boards. There is little or no accountability and the politicians from both sides like it so.โ€

Now you see why there will no real restructuring, reorganizing or rationalization of statutory bodies in any hurry? What would politicians have to do when the day comes other than the carving up of the fa(t)ted calf?

There will be No restructuring of statutory boards under the current administration. Just look how the former Tourism Board (BTA) was split in two to provide food for political family and friends while adhering to the principle so aptly defined by C. Northcote Parkinson that “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion”.

Oh well, you still have the IMF to do the dirty work for the long-term good and economic survival of the country.
