President (elect) Trump (l) and President Obama (r)
President (elect) Trump (l) and President Obama (r)

Dr. Anthony Monteiro has recently delivery a magisterial analysis of our current circumstances, the way forward. He has concluded that we are in the 5th major crisis of capitalism; sees the generalized failure of the capitalist elites; believes there is no way to prevent a total, systemic, collapse; sees these global crisis as beyond fascism, beyond neo-fascism, in severity. However, he thinks that broad, grass root political formations may have a chance of charting a new way for what ‘future’ there could be. That analysis starts about 15 minutes in.

Can you please tell us how you know this and with certainty?

We shall agree to disagree on how we interpret the facts.

Final fact the US war machine is woefully behind the times in equipment and strength.

Humanoids are not always rational beings.

  3. After today trump agenda is dead. Poor Putin has also lost.

  4. @chad99999 January 21, 2017 at 7:29 AM “Good to see a woman in a dress instead of a Hillary pantsuit. Michelle not only looked terrible.

It was cold yesterday. Would you wear a dress in yesterday’s weather?

Wrong question. I know that you were wearing a dress yesterday…probably wearing one today too.

Michelle is a decent lady with good manners. At a wedding decent guests do not try to outshine the bride. Michelle had her time to be the bride/first lady, yesterday was Melania’s turn. Michelle respected protocol by doing nothing to outshine Melania.

    Stupseee!!!!

I don’t believe that I have to come here to teach “Good Manners 101”

  5. Why are you always behaving as though somebody stole you joy?

  6. @de pedantic Dribbler January 21, 2017 at 9:42 AM “all credit to Mrs Trump for her astonishing life’s journey – escort of not – she has reached a pinnacle of which only a few others can boast.”

What is so pinnacle about being married to an old man?

What is this obsession about believing that the best husband for a young woman is an old man?

If a 46 year old man was married to a 70 year old woman would you still write that he had reached a pinnacle about which he could boast?

Those of us who have lived long enough know that sex is important, and that it is vitally important to young people.

Those of us who have lived long enough know that old men are less able than young men to deliver the sexual goodies.

Enough of this nonsense of referring to those young women who are married to old men as being lucky, of having reached a pinnacle, and other such nonsense.

It is not true. it is not lucky. It is not fortunate. It is not a pinnacle.

it is degrading and unfortunate when a young woman feels that she must marry an old man.

  7. Reminds me of that nonsense which they do in the Middle East where a 15 year old girl is married off to her father’s 45 year old friend, or cousin.

    Degrading.

  12. @Simple at 5:47 PM your screed is misinformed, misguided and mistaken…it does really ‘miss’ the point badly!

I was simply referring to the pinnacle of First Lady of the US. Isn’t that obvious from the comment “…of which only a few others can boast.”

Would you care to explain (rhetorical; NOT necessary) how the marriage of a young women to an older man would ever be considered a boast by only a few.

But thanks for showing that despite all the high brow analysis we always get right back to ‘sexual behavior’ when it comes to women and men.

@Vincent at 5:11 PM…Yes let’s agree to disagree on this and particularly your ” Final fact”.

You are aware that the US spends colossal amounts on military readiness/new equipment every year. The figures are there for all to review as a % of GDP or compared to other super nations expenditure. By all metrics they stand out above others.

So I am not sure why you buy into the rhetoric that the “the US war machine is woefully behind the times in equipment and strength.”

The US has some of the most sophisticated stuff in the world. They have more aircraft carrier groups than anyone else…than the other major powers combined. Nuclear subs they seem to keep secret so those numbers are not clear. And what of the stealth planes.

But let’s not get in deep weeds on war tactics or equipment. Suffice to say that any modern war will likely not be fought on manpower needs alone.

The US industrial complex and Republicans sing the song about building up military readiness …and a new multi-Billion aircraft carrier just came off dry dock and the new series of big money aircraft are being planned. The money tree is primed.

  13. @David @ 7:29…that’s a good article. In every piece I have read where the author has been as balanced and despite his/her critique of Obama’s foreign policy achievements they all have a section as :

“Let’s start with the positive side of the ledger. Here one must begin by recalling the dire circumstances when Obama took office. The world economy was in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and the United States was teetering on the brink of a complete economic meltdown. Unemployment was soaring…”

In sum things were dread, dread. And they all also have a section as:

“What has happened since? Here at home, the U.S. economy recovered faster than any of the other major industrial democracies, we’re now at full employment,.. Moreover, Obama managed these important economic and social achievements in the face of extraordinary opposition from the Republican Party, which seemed more interested in thwarting Obama than in doing anything to help the American people.”

“In both foreign and domestic policy, therefore, this administration notched some genuine wins….”

Yes he had major failures outside the US and the pundits as this one did, explained the rationale why.

We look for the home runs when in fact he did bat close to .300 by hitting lots of singles. He did get runs across the plate (Won games without hitting sixes for you cricket peeps.)

There will be no satisfying his naysayers like yourself that in the main he did well even in the face of missteps and his intent not to carry the US back onto the field of war.

It is common knowledge that a person of color must work twice as hard as others in order to achieve a success that is similar to theirs. The notion that blacks are 3/5 of a person though widely discounted still holds sway when it comes to performance in many workplaces. Add to this the many impediments that were placed in the path of Barack Obama.

The notion of Barack Obama as a failure is propagated by the political right in the US and it is sad to see many ‘blacks’ buy into this nonsensical argument. They devalue themselves by accepting the standards of others.

Even with the impediments in his way, if his successes were given their full weight and not discounted by 2/5 then Barack term as a US president is an unbridled success.

I am not high brow. I am a pragmatist.

  20. @Well Well & Consequences January 21, 2017 at 8:45 PM “And I bet not one march was organized in the Caribbean.”

    Dear Well Well:

Why did you not go marching today?

  21. It would not come as a surprise to me, if Trump under the disguise of putting America first, and reorganising and re-tooling the United Sates Armed Forces, do not withdraw , neglect or reduce considerably , the United States Army in Europe ,the real thorn in the side of President Putin, and the main obstacle which prevented the USSR from getting past Berlin. With the British Army of the Rhine, disbanded, and the US Army in Europe,de-teethed, NATO would be hard push to prevent another Russian onslaught to regain borders lost under the USSR in 1989.

  22. Colonel Buggy

is delusional. Russia does not seek to reclaim the old borders of the Soviet Union. Putin may be interested in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, for strategic reasons, and perhaps in Kazakhstan, because it’s territory is useful for the Russian space program, but the other republics, especially Georgia, Kirghizia, Uzbekistan, etc, were poverty-stricken burdens the Russians are happy to be rid of

The Women’s March today was a feminist temper tantrum. Women are pissed Hillary didn’t win, furious that taxpayer-funded abortions are now threatened in some states, and determined to protect (illegal) Hispanic immigration that damages African Americans, but their leaders are saying that Trump is “homophobic” and anti-black etc to attract homosexuals and African-Americans to their cause even though Trump is no threat to these latter groups.

Trump even went out of his way in his Inaugural address to disdain “prejudice” and slam Obama and the political class for being all talk and no action on the problems of crime, drugs, unemployment and inner city decay.

Don’t forget De Blasio is also of German descent,

  28. @ WW&C

I read that Trump used the opportunity while addressing the CIA, to back track on his “disparaging remarks” about the agency and criticize the media.

Can you imagine, a GROWN MAN like Trump “bitching” about the media using two photographs showing the crowds that attended Trump’s inauguration compared with those for Obama’s inauguration in 2009, which clearly indicated Obama’s crowd was larger of the two.

Trump is reported to have told CIA staff that when he looked out he saw about a million and a half people on the field.

Lol…..Art, Trump suffers from classical mental illness, just like Hitler, he sees what he wants to see even if it dies not exist and never will, hears what he wants to hear, even if it was never said and never will be and everything he says is right, even if he has to lie about it incessantly to make other people believe it because he believes it…….there is no middle ground with mentally ill chauvinists, it will be real roller coaster and merry-go-round.

….. the theater going forward will be much better than TV….until he pisses off the right people….just like Hitler.

  30. WW I dont know what it is that you dont get, brexit, trump, people are fed up, 2million women marched 230 million women stayed home. When you take marching orders from a whore like madonna its pathetic. Watch the trump roast and hear the things these offended liberals say. Its funny, I have been reading what you have written and wondering if that injury was from being dropped on your head

  31. WW&C

should retire the foolish comparisons between Trump and Hitler.

Parts of Trump’s (very short) Inaugural Address express classic liberal values and would have been universally praised if spoken by Hillary, Bernie or Obummer.

    Some examples:

“Whether we are black or brown or white we all bleed the same red blood of patriots…”

“When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice”

“And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator. ”

Then there is Trump’s attempt to improve on “know-it-all” liberalism (This one is for Pacha):

“We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone…”

    Long live Trumpism.

Harper said Trump is “going to reverse the cornerstone of seven decades of American foreign policy.”

  39. @ Vincent Haynes January 22, 2017 at 1:05 PM re “… It would seem that Stephen Harper shares my opinion.” A hearty LOL to that.

Our intense chat and disagreements were about the US super power status…not Mr Trump’s foreign policy per se.

Harper like all of us can surmise that Trump will upend eons of US entrenched policy but like all of us he cannot foretell exactly how that will play out.

Trump has set his path quite clearly but as we previously discussed cancelling NAFTA is easier said than done as a practical measure. I don’t disagree that he will push that hard and also push China et al.

In particular, I have no issues with the China reset but again you simply CANNOT slap 35% – 45% tariffs on that Walmart import bill I mentioned.

But clearly an aggressive stance is needed on China’s policy on intellectual property rights, the financial market there and a host of other major issues.

The point to all this is that Trump CANNOT continue to act from his twitter a/c. He has to manage these issues seriously.

China feels as strongly on the China and Taiwan affair (right or wrong) as he does on his southern wall. That Asian long standing dynamic is not a 140 character game one can play and not get their bird shot out of the sky.

I’m sure Harper would agree with me on that. LOLL!

And I am very positive that Trump will NOT get into a trade war with China as that would be utter madness. This man loves himself beyond belief but he is not mad and nor are members of his trade team.

Chad, the 5 of 9 kid voted as BU most controversial blogger of 2016, you are really off to a flying start to retain the title for 2017.

    Keep it up, buddy.

You might just be too young in too many ways to know of a man called Joseph Goebbels. But let us just say thatyou would be highly recommended by the master of propaganda to serve in Trump’s press corps.

Chad, we must admire your adroitness in picking a winner of similar maverick luck and persuasion.

The man is indeed ‘presidential’ in the art of manipulating the minds of ordinary ‘simplistic’ folks.

What a wise move on his part to get Bishop Wayne Jackson a man of the prosperity gospel faith to oversee the god-blessing proceedings. In the minds of deeply religious black folks Trump is now a born-again saviour of black Americans.
Well done Trump. You now have the niggers on your side. You are a true reincarnation of old Abe of “freed-the-slaves” fame.

All you have to do now Mr. P is to make sure you provide those ghettoes with lots of free fast food, phones, ‘gear’ and don’t forget the condoms to stop them from breeding like rats.

Maybe there is some ‘truth’ concealed in your moniker 9×5 equals to the messenger to 45th President of the Warmongering World.

Both you and brother Zoe the Zionist could hold hands in your attempt to decipher the following:

“The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws.”
“… the Republic of the big city will engage in costly military operations, ordered by the trumpet, which has led to fears of nuclear war.”

“A lie told once remains a lie but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth”. ~J G and passed on to his grandson Chad 99999.
