Months ago leader of the Opposition -in guarded language- hinted that all was not well with the South Coast Sewage plant. Barbadians on the ground who have interacted with the workers would have been aware of the unavailability of parts and tools to perform required maintenance on the plant. As expected the government remained loyal to its tried and trusted MO -to be silent. The few times it broke silence was to issue denials.

Successive governments have struggled with implementing effective maintenance programs. What is unraveling on the South Coast should therefore comes as no surprise. The latest report is that a part that is required to fix the sewage problem will take about three months to be installed.

Enough is enough!

Blaming the BLP will not resonate with Barbadians. This government through its agent the Barbados Water Authority found the resources to construct a 60 million dollar edifice on St. Barnabas Hill, the Sanitation Service Authority is currently constructing its headquarters at Vaucluse, YET, a few parts to fix the sewage plant on the South Coast and to make the Sluice Gate at Graeme Hall operational remains undone. How many blogs have been posted on BU to highlight the ramshackle sluice gate? The very gate the government refused assistance to make operational?

The BU household will continue to pray that the players charged with correcting the problem on the South Coast are able to move with haste. Already there are reports of cancellations by tourists and locals who traverse the area have has to tolerate the putrid smells emanating from one of our main tourist resort areas. All the gains accrued from the 50th anniversary have dissipated.

We now turn to the matter of accountability.

The PR stunt undertaken by Minsters Richard Sealy and John Boyce although understood given the threat to our tourist product trivialized the seriousness of the matter. Whether there is fecal matter leaking into public spaces or stagnant water and decaying matter from Graeme Hall swamp the average Barbadian and tourist who travel the area know there is a problem. There is the very bad smell AND the ‘weeping’ manholes. Then there is the video posted by the owner of a property on the South Coast.

The problem on the South Coast is indicative of how as a country we have managed several others. There is Combermere Secondary School now closed for 1 month because someone sabotaged the sewer covers IF we are to believe the principal. There is the Barrack transaction that has costed the taxpayers over 100 million dollars. What about the NCC and Employment Rights Tribunal matter? Alexandra Waterman Commission and CAHILL???

Against the forgoing shouldn’t Barbadians be calling for the immediate retirement of this government? At worse a few heads should roll.ย

Today’s Nation newspaper is recommended reading -here is an extract:

Abracadabra connotes a sense that by mere pronouncements, great things take place. For instance, in this yearโ€™s budgetary presentation, Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler told Barbadians that โ€œwith a concentrated effort by all parties we can at least have the City of Bridgetown ready for this type of business (duty-free shopping) before Christmasโ€. Just eight days shopping left, sir. Sinckler is particularly prone to over-promising in his Budget speeches as we can see in four extracts taken from presentations in 2010, 2011 and 2013 in addition to this yearโ€™s.

2010: โ€œReductions (of fees for public service vehicles) will be performance-based as operators will only be able to access these benefits if they have demonstrated proper standards on the public roads. Some of these will include the wearing of uniforms by employees while on the job; a drastic reduction in traffic violations; the elimination of the playing of loud and offensive music and generally good deportment.โ€ Proper standards? Good deportment?

2011: โ€œโ€ฆFollowing months of analysis and consultation, this government has decided to move ahead with the construction of a brand new multi-purpose, state-of-the- art cultural and performing arts centre. It is expected that the centre will be financed and constructed through a grant from the government of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China and it is proposed that it will be located, once the Town Planner approves, on the land at Spring Garden opposite the Brandonโ€™s Beach facility in the constituency of St Michael North Westโ€ฆ.โ€ That was over four years ago, sir.

2013: โ€œThe National Housing Corporation, along with a private developer, is expected to begin work on the Exmouth Housing Complex in October of 2013. This is expected to inject Bds $33 million in investment in the housing market over the planning period with another 75 jobs to be created.โ€ Not so fast, Mr Minister.

I remember when Fruendel, Worrell and Sinckler them refuse to listen to the rating agencies. .then cussed them, now look….lol

“So it is a necessary requirement that facilities be put in place to allow for borrowing for various purposes,โ€ Sinckler said.

โ€œIn this case, this is entirely domestic,โ€ he added.

At the last issuance of the Central Bankโ€™s Securities Notice Report, the stock of debentures and Treasury Notes stood at $6.173.8 billion, of which $6.0425 billion was outstanding, the Minister of Finance explained.

He also acknowledged that Barbadosโ€™ poor international credit rating, which is currently below investment grade, had affected its foreign borrowing.”

  2. This govt has spent the better part of eight years โ€œfixingโ€ yes folks fixing the past govt problems
How can any one forget Alexander a hot issue that erupted under the blp lasting unresolved for about ten years but only resolved after one year of the new dlp govt
Or even the most current water problem which the blp had stated was a priority of their govt but was near resolved in 14 years but until recently the dlp has taken the initiative for seeking resolution
And now a billion dollar cost of taxpayers monies attached to fix a decapitated in active sewer plant which never in its inception never show the capacity or capability of sustainable functions for present govt to fix
So what is the moral of the story never buy a pig in a bag especially if the bag is encrypted BLP

  3. Why don’t you blame the BLP for not implementing transparency legislation?

  4. Hey cool down ole dude i am not blaming i am simply stating facts. Got a problem with facts too bad.

This is a message to the following soldiers in the army to save Barbados from a mob of thieving wild boys and mad men who know not what they are doing:

Piece Uh de Rock yeah Right (Old Sage PUDRYR).

Colonel Buggy (the old soldier in pictorial arms).

Prodigal Son (the Daniel who has been warning of the doom and gloom this current Dangerous Lying Party forming the current political administration is doing to Barbados and wreaking havoc upon its people and visitors to her once pristine shores).
    ………………………………………….

Thanks Miller for the shout out.

I follow the blog daily but I am tired………it is getting too much of a burden to deal with the absolute nonsense that Barbadians are having to endure what is passing off as governance in this country.

I am tired………only today I heard the Minister of Transport promising buses more than a week after a front page story of poor people having to wait 4 to 5 hours for a bus. It is a good thing that they are for the poor black man. The commuters are in for longer wait times as I saw a notice that the company which repairs the buses are closing for their Christmas holidays.

With IMF big bad wolf at the door, I wonder where the money is coming from to buy the new buses. These wild boys cannot help lying.

The following excerpts were taken from the DLPโ€™s 2008 election manifesto, under the heading: โ€œ22 Good Governance.โ€

โ€œThere is therefore a need to clean up politics in Barbados. The Democratic Labour Party has selected a team of CLEAN, CARING, COMPETENT and committed politicians who have signed on to a code of conduct, that promises Good Governance.โ€ [Page 46]

โ€œThe DLP administrationโ€™s attitude to accountability will be based on the understanding that as servants and representatives of the people there can be no secrets or matters to be hidden from the population.โ€ [Page 47]
    …………………………………………………….

    Good post as usual, Artax.

They did indeed promised that “there can be no secrets or matters to be hidden from the populationโ€ but I noticed that they went ahead with the David Thompson football tournament without even telling the public this time.

Why are they still trying to keep this fraud’s memory alive? Had he lived, he would have had to resign in disgrace………….but there again, no dem resigns………..just look at the behaviour in office of the current mob!

  7. @Gabriel

Ignore Maxine McClean, she is the most incompetent Forein Affairs ministers ever. Every big do the dems had, she led on and always with poor results. She is a failure……has a lot of mouth but is so arrogant and cocky, no wonder she is so incompetent.

Got a lot of mouth, enjoys the fatted calf but does not have the guts to offer her self as a candidate and face the electorate. As least cammie Tudor faced the electorate and she is no Cammie!

  8. Abracadabra connotes the CASTING OF A SPELL….
but there’s a greater power in saying NO, these myriad of problems encountering the country lies in the association to being a signatory to the controlling ABC networks treaties, MOUs’ and the like, “ministers” hands are tied and explains the silence and embarrassment having to follow the rhetoric of the contract, once again, one way to reverse the “pain” is to issue “LETTERS OF INTENT TO WITHDRAW” even if it means that we as a country may experience vindictiveness, at least we as a country will regain our SOVEREIGNTY and the right to govern ourselves in the way that the mandate of the CONSTITUTION is intended.

Another perspective that possibly is adding insult to injury is that many nations has built DUMBS in anticipation of “global catastrophic scenarios” that was expected since 2012, it also speaks to the closure of many big businesses worldwide, the speedy exit of many elites of stature to undisclosed locations ….maybe they don’t give two cahoots of any furtherance of good governance “knowing” of the “informed predicament”, well, what “is expected” will not happen as did previously, and they are caught with their pants down, maybe the mentality was to make good use of a bad situation.

    We will survive.

I am telling you people now that as much as the focus is on DLP jackasses who have lost their way and do not know how to get back, that attention must be paid to that other crooked party in waiting. When we kick the jackasses of the Democratic Lying Party to the kerb, the BLP must be made to feel the heat of the nation by implementing the things we want for greater transparency, accountability, and rules to lock their asses up when they think they can do any thieving shite and get away with it. People, we know what the jackasses have done, we do not know what the set of other crooked jackasses in waiting will do. That is why Mottley must be pressed and pressed hard towards changes that represent the nation for good governance to become the reality that we all desire and want. All the shite must stop, and Mottley must be the one to stop it, lest we come back here and write the same shite we are writing about Freundel and his bunch wicked, crooked ass fools.

  10. I reason that this useless government is not too concerned about the effluent spewing on to the streets of the South Coast because we the people have been fed loads and loads of effluent by them for the past eight years and all we have done is grumble. Why should they be concerned now?
They must be made to know it’s time to go ( as if they don’t know that already). We must adopt some of the aggression of Europe. Must we start showing these despicable charlatans our disgust by accidentally breaking rotten eggs on their beautifully made hand sewn suits? Tossing rotten tomatoes at the Audi’s and dripping old paint on the ostentatious BMW’s? All done with an accidental slip of the hand to avoid arrest. They must be booed and jeered whenever seen in public until the message is delivered through their thick skulls that WE DO NOT WANT THEM FOR ONE MOMENT LONGER! What will it take for this crooked band of thieving wastrels to cease and desist from the further destruction of this once fair land. This DLP will forever be credited with having – Destroyed Little Paradise.

    ………………………………………………………..

A good question if they have no monies for spare parts how can they find money for new buses.

Common sense should tell you that as bus bodies do not deteriorate as quick as mechanical parts, all one has to do is to keep a stock of engines, gearboxes, etc, etc in order to keep the stock rolling,it will also provide employment at UCAL and ACME as they can always repair the bodies when needed.

Why is it that we always want new…..do we not understand that refurbished is better as you order to suit your needs.

  12. Steupsss @ Vincent who keep on asking foolish questions.

What kickbacks can a minister get from buying spare parts?
You expect Lashley to buy spare parts for $2M to last a whole damn year with ZERO possibility of kickbacks…. instead of waiting and buying 20 new buses for $8M at 5%?
The man is a member of the political class….this is what they do….while promising to ‘study the problem’… ๐Ÿ™‚

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Boss, have you taken a look around Barbados lately? Who do you see with the required balls to to show this disgust? Over the last 30 years we have created a society where balls have been marginalised. Those in authority are mostly women and a pack of effeminate ‘persons’ who seem to have been put there because of the uncanny manner in which they are able to suppress their testosterone.
We all know that ‘women in authority’ almost universally get there via some shady man in the background – and are best known for kowtowing and conflict avoidance.

Any real men that lingered in the system (Broomes, Farley, etc) have been hunted, hounded and neutered by the oestrogen junkies to the point where our whole society is now best characterised by laying on our backs- with legs wide open….. to foreign investors; ….to foreign banks; …..to local albino-centric thinkers; ….to SBRC; ….and to the black jackasses in Parliament.

The best we can do now is mourn and cry, and hope for help from some kind-hearted passing strangers… as is the wont of oestrogen

And to think the media actually reported that load of ad nauseam codswallop to a nation of fools!

What has become of a similar promise to buy a fleet of โ€˜newโ€™ garbage trucks for the SSA? Has that promise been fulfilled?

Which lender in his right financial thinking mind would lend a country that is already broke and living in financial junk land money to buy buses with bus fares at such an economically ‘unviable’ level.

But of course you know which godfather to the DLP reelection campaign would be given the contract to import those buses with a large kickback thrown in for easy measure. If one can plant houses like money trees why not import buses for kickbacks.

Maybe that just a ruse to increase bus fares come early 2017 just like water rates were increased significantly with the promise of a better water distribution and supply service.

Donโ€™t be surprised if they soon announce the building of a new depot and HQ for the Transport Board as in the case of the BWA and SSA.

There is loads of money hidden in those darn buildings, ya hear!

  14. Bushie&Miller

The sad part of it is that no one refutes your statements and what you both have said appears to be the accepted practise of governance now…..the all for me syndrome with the possibilty that the country and its people may benefit from time to time……we have come to a sorry pass.

  15. @ Bushie and Miller,

You keep talking about “kickbacks” but no one has provided hard evidence.

Not a single wickedleak of fraudulent transactions or hyperinflated bank accounts.

We now have cell phone cameras but still no photos of bank accounts.

Endless long talk but no proof of bribe taking.

So we will soon have entertainment from Comedy central known as a political campaign

with brass meetings where pit bulls will be talking about the immorality of biting insects and

a whole lot of innuendo and inferences and bull…sht and the brasses will be entertained and

….. MIA and the BLP will win….

and we will continue to write the same shirt on BU except the “D” will be replaced by a “B”.

Those inflated bank accounts are probably in the USA or elsewhere. I remember when a rich business man in T&T died, the bulk of his wealth (bank accounts) was in Barbados. If you looked at his T&T bank accounts, he was not doing that well..

Probably the first thing they learn on becoming an is how to hide money.

Hants, do you really believe that a cadre of former hand-to-mouth politicians who blatantly refuse to keep their manifesto pledges of transparency and accountability through good governance and who have the gall to tell Bajans to stick the ITAl and FOI legislation where the monkey hide the nuts would have any compunctions about corruption and receiving kickbacks?

Why donโ€™t you ask Leroy Greenverbs why he is able to walk Barbados not as a known leperous crook but as the bosom pal of the boss man?

Why don’t you ask for proof that the speaker-man had paid back the disabled pensioner and his siblings after misappropriating their inheritance?

Why not ask Downlowe why his poor mother won the super lotto but refused to share it equally among her children?

Maybe the millions spent in the last elections to stop OSA and his privatization came from the official salaries of the same politicians and from the membership fees received from their lowly party faithful.

But of course you know about the $75,000.00 cheque (or according to ac using Stinkliarโ€™s brand of arithmetic $750,000.00) that was given to OSA for services rendered behind the scenes.

Obviously Vincent is not in the know, I am not sure if it’s Brandford Taitt started it while minister of health, or if it started at QEH, but it is simple, evil and very effective,. The scam as I understand it was, medicals supplies are purchased in Miami for X amount, of course the invoice presented for payment by whichever ministry is responsible is 300-1000 times the amount…taxpayers screwed.

As was explained to me years ago by a retired cuvil servant, there are checks and balances in place to slme extent so it’s not that easy stealing money directly from the treasury, that’s why the contracts are so vital, because the bribes and kickbacks come directly from those contracts, money skimmed off the top, finder’s fees ect…very integral for corruption to florish and be profitable for government ministers and civil servants who are that greedy.

Why ya think neither Kellman, Lashley nor Sinckler are in any hurry to explain to PAC about all those missing millions of tax dollars for the Maloney, etc building scam…lol that the auditor general noticed was missing cause it dont add up.

There are was to steals, some say Don Blackman had his version of getting his money upfront before any negotiations took place, apparently Lowe copied his style.

But new buses, a new sewage system, 1 billion dollar price tag remember, so being suspicious by nature, I believe the sewage plant was deliberately allowed to deteriorate by one or both governments……new buildings, has anyone realized that neither government is fond of refurbishing their state owned buildings that are all rotting and dropping to the ground, but choose to instead waste taxpayer’s money to lease or rent at unbelievably and inexplicably high prices,….everything must be new…a new 60 million dollar BWA building, Lowe now wants a spanking new, is it Drainage, building probably 60-100 million dollars…Lashley will want a new transport board building that will be..another 60-80 million. …… how much was the Cahill scam again…was it 700 million dollars….all of that new fever generates years of opportunities for kickbacks and bribes.

I am yet to hear Blackett call for new children centres staffed by doctors to help minors, teenagers and young adults, even middle aged and elderly adults deal with rape and abuse. The sign on the Child Careless Board is missing a few letters that are not important enough for any of them to replace….there is no bribe or kickback in any of that for the ministers to divvy up…..there is a growing need for mental health centres in Barbados, ya can see it in the population, particularly in the young,……the government can get the funding from worldwide organizations for these upgrades, but they cant thief it, so they don’t want it….animals.

I may have an almost 3-decade “SOLUTION” to the problems you good FOLKS* are having there in Barbados and possibly applicable 4 the entire Caribbean region…

I have taken some steps to look at the viability of this cost-effective technology as it would greatly alleviate the sewage problems hoteliers, villas, POSH-houses & other middle-class families would have given the current looming crisis in Barbados…

The business “MODEL” could make the right PERSON(s) quite rich in a very short space of time given the territorial “DISTRIBUTION” licensing and how this may very be a GOD-SEND* – offsetting the pressures upon gov’t’s to spend absolute fortunes propping up antiquated technologies that have passed their sell-by-date …

As you already know David & CO – the difference between “THE HAVES” & “THE HAVE-NOTS” is simply KNOWLEDGE* (INFORMATION)…

When that “KNOWLEDGE” is correctly applied – the rewards can be HUGE*…

I am putting it out there on BU* in the event that anyone who is seriously interested can reach me at: dreamstaragents@gmail.com

I am willing to fly home to have this “TECHNOLOGY” displayed in the LOCAL MEDIA* and to move from local R&D to full implementation within a couple weeks…

Something I believe the “WHITE-BOYS” on the island as well as the GOV* who happily embrace given the “TRACK-RECORD” of SUCCESS* this technology has provided…

As the ‘ole people would always remind us:

    “Nothing ventured – nothing gained”!!!

Governmentโ€™s decision to raise the domestic debt ceiling under the Domestic Loans Act by $1 billion to $7.5 billion has been met with grave concern from the private sector, as well as at least one local economist who said it was a worrying signal.
Correct me if I am wrong; isn’t this what the U.S. government does almost every year? Revise the debt ceiling upward? With the billions Bajans have in the commercial banks, there is enough money around to handle this increase. What is worrying-that we do not have to borrow overseas, and can raise the funds locally? It worries local businessmen who want to see the devaluetion of the Bajan dollar, so that they can make more money off of imports?

  37. NorthernObserver Avatar

And because the USA decides to increase its debt annually, on a percentage scale they remain way below little Barbados. And what Bajans have in their personal accounts is irrelevant unless you are suggesting the GoB is going to seize these funds.
It concerns local business people, because they do NOT wish to see a devaluation. They will not MAKE any more money, the prices to the local people will just double or triple. Their percentage markups will not change.
What you need to note is the employers, not the government who is by the largest, but the private ones are not investing a cent in Bim. They are growing, they are doing deals, but elsewhere. This helps their profitability but doesn’t do a damn thing for Bajan employment, only taxation, for what profits they do not direct to other tax jurisdictions.
You cannot run a country by having a Texas standoff with the private sector, with the exception of tourism.
The GoB is arrogant, and will not seek any compromises beyond their way. As the saying goes “my way or the highway” so businesses are taking the highway, that leads to Florida, Latin and South America and other Caribbean islands. How does this benefit the people of Barbados?

The credit unions better make sure that neither government gets their greedy coveteous little hands on their members money. They can hardly seize the foreign banks money…the government wasted money on crap fpr 8 years, refused to listen to the credit rating agencies, or IMF to reduce spending, now they cannot borrow on the international markets, let them feel it, they cannot pass the blame or point fingers for that, it’s theirs to own…lol

Let them ask money from Alvin’s friend Clare Cowan, let Bjerkham, Maloney, Cow, Tempro, Parris, Harris and all the crooks who benefitted over the years from taxpayer funded contracts to enrich themselves and ministers, let them contribute to the degraded economy, they have been sucking the life of the island for decades…time to give back.

I knew I was right, and it has been proven.Cherry has; and has always had, the support and backing (of course it is reciprocal) of the BLP. Nuff said!!

  40. No Well Well:
I am not a beast. I just know what I am talking about. You keep forgetting Barrow’s mirror image speech. I can look in the mirror and be content with what I see. You on the other hand hate yourself and so many others who look like how you used to look. You have never been content with your mirror image and now what you see is different from what you were and despite what you do, you still cannot better the inner you. That is why you hate everyone else.
By the way Government departments do not do their own purchssasing, generally. This is done through Central Purchasing Department.

  41. Adam Smithโ€™s economic theory spoke of the working class, middle, class, rich elites and so on. Smith died unaware of a new socio economic group the traitor class. The traitor class reveals itself in Prodigal who rants he couldnโ€™t care less about the diaspora. The diaspora mind you are fellow nationals residing overseas. The diasporaโ€™s importance to the economy surpasses manufacturing and agriculture . Remittances are only exceeded by tourist receipts on governmentโ€™s balance sheet. Barbados wouldnโ€™t be the Number One Developing country without the input of the diaspora.

The miller belongs firmly in the traitor class. That imbecileโ€™s appeal to tourists is to skip the island and spend their foreign exchange elsewhere. A sickening display by the traitor class is the owner of the little guest house whose profanity of โ€˜sewageโ€™ on his property went viral. One is forgiven if the bigot with the stink mouth is mistaken for a Alabama red neck. His vomit inducing babble conjures up hillbillies in white sheets burning crosses and hunting coons aka negroes.

Saddle Head Kerrie Simmons aka wife beater is a representative of the traitor class. His tirade on โ€œjobbyโ€ was more certified buffoon than so called lawyer . The raving of the ass is likely to do more damage to the tourist business than a hurricane. These low life are specimens of the traitor class most of whom are in the BU household. Adam Smith would be in shock over the new socio economic category. The reality is they are a minority in spite of delusions to the contrary . A Christian understanding awaits them at a time and place chosen by the silent majority.

That government closed ranks years ago in their agreement to lie to and deceive the people, Inniss just so desperately wants to be prime minister to display his brutal side that he is taking any chance he deems necessary to appear not be just like them, but he is just like them and would like the opportunity to be worse.

Ya talking rubbish Alvin…ya just jealous of Cherry, you preferred see a con artist, broke white woman from Canada aligned with Bjerkham, Tempro and bribetaking government ministers succeed with a scam to kill bajans and destroy the island, than a black man with a cleaner and safer approach, succeed with waste removal and processing. That is why you were pilloried so stop trying to turn yourself into some martyr for attention…ya just like Clare Cowan, get yaself a fake seer seeker and you wiuld be twins,

What vindicated what,..you are a fraud Alvin…hateful and envious of your own people’s success…you the one have to live with that….not me.

  44. When those elected to serve can only see success as riding political waves to gain power and notoriety there is always a possibility that when the winds of failure come howling across the shores the excessives of political opportunism that lead to failures would be fully exposed.
The gladiators of the South West sewer plant and their obsession for quick political power engineered by divisiveness was certainly exposed

Btw what happened to PDYR he has never hidden the fact he has health challenges .hope PDYR is alright .he has been away too long

    I am actually disengaging Gazer.

Bajans are not a serious people at all.

We are more interested in Trump and every one else in the world and a simple conversation as to how we ensure that Mugabe Mottleyโ€™s crew does not bring more of the same, is an exercise in futility.
So we have these articles about where i stand is where i sit and inance topics that all lead to Donald Trump or the proselytes preaching of the wisdom of a DLP government again.
So sometimes it is best to just sit back and watch the sameness of it all.

Then buy your ticket and leave.

  49. All those crises are not crises.

    They are symptoms.

There is a single crisis in Barbados

Neither the BLP not the DLP is capable of running the country.

The symptoms are clear evidence of this simple fact!!
