Much more interesting to this writer is the similar levels of fecklessness by world governments, especially in the socalled Global South, Barbados as an exemplar.

Last weekend in Pakistan, the key issue for Kershner, Witkoff and Vance was the mafia skim to go to the Don from the new fees the Iranians are changing for safe passage.
Thus, a patterns has emerged recently, not without antecedents, where even the stock markets are being manipulated by Trump insiders ahead of and after pronouncements by him. Around the Iran war, insiders made billions in personal wealth by betting over 160 million on put and call options just before policy pronouncements by Trump.
Everything is a scam by the Invader in Washington but those countries dependent on the American-led order can’t say one brassbowl word. Weir: Investor confidence still high despite global turmoil

Rising oil prices, stubborn inflation and ongoing global uncertainty have not shaken investor confidence in Barbados, says Minister of Public and Private Investment Indar Weir.
He is pointing to a packed pipeline of projects and sustained interest from investors as proof that the island’s development momentum remains intact.
In an interview assessing the impact of external pressures on the local investment climate, Weir said Barbados continues to attract strong private sector interest, even as international conditions remain volatile.
“So far, all the projects that we have lined up that are requiring private investment are pretty much in the pipeline, some near delivery,” he said, adding that global developments “will not interfere with the investment that is already taking place”.
He said the pipeline extended beyond projects already under construction, adding that a number of proposals are still at the conceptual and design stages, with investors continuing to express interest in doing business in Barbados.
“So therefore, I am confident that we will continue to see private sector investment taking place,” he stated.
Weir pointed to the construction boom, driven largely by private capital, including new hotel developments, villa projects and housing initiatives.
Reinforcing confidence
The minister also underscored the importance of Government-led developments in reinforcing that confidence. Several major public sector projects – including the Richard Stoute Amphitheatre at the National Botanical Gardens, the new Geriatric Hospital and works at Newton, Christ Church – are nearing completion and expected to further signal stability to investors, he stressed.
“Once the Government continues to play its part in preparing Barbados . . . and showing confidence in the economy, then many of the projects that the Government [is] delivering . . . are about to come to completion.”
According to Weir, this dual thrust of public and private investment was positioning Barbados as a leader in regional development, even against the backdrop of global economic strain.
“Overall, we have extremely good prospects going forward with Barbados leading the way still in terms of investment.”
However, he acknowledged that external pressures could not be ignored. With Barbados heavily reliant on imported materials, fluctuations in global supply chains and prices have the potential to affect construction timelines.
“When you’re dealing with construction, obviously you’re influenced by a number of things that we import,” he said, pointing specifically to materials such as steel and other key inputs.
While he said no significant delays have yet been recorded, Weir noted that the risks remain and require proactive management. To that end, he added, Government has been encouraging developers to secure materials early and in larger quantities to reduce exposure to future disruptions.
“My clear position . . . [is] all those items that we need to get to complete the projects . . . let us get them here.”
The approach he suggested is similar in principle to earlier efforts to cushion the impact of volatile oil prices, where early action helped to stabilise costs locally.
However, he conceded that projects still in the early stages might face challenges if global conditions worsened.
“Something that’s at design or concept stage . . . could be or may not be impacted at the end of the day. We don’t know because the situation is still very fluid.”

This weekend some of us were at our wit’s end as the American chairman of the joint chiefs was asked by Donald Drumpf about the launch codes for the use of nuclear weapons. These are the reports reaching us yesterday.
Some on social media are today showing this four-star general, Daniel Caine, leaving that meeting with his head bowed and shaking from side to side, seemingly in genuine disbelief that the madman., his boss, might have been considering nuclear weapons use and the orders so to do.
There was a time when this writer laboured under the misbelief that the peoples of the world would have risen up in a righteous indignation about the possible use of these weapons by a sane man, farless by a man who has no relationship with even a modicum of sanity. Those days never were!
