Donald Trump
Donald Trump

Trumps has grabbed the headlines across the globe although for the wrong reason. His disparaging exchange with Billy Bush -captured on a hot mike- and exposed by the US media about women is sure to derail his presidential campaign. What it does is to setup tomorrow’s second presidential debate to attract unprecedented viewership.

It also brings into question to what extent should the electorate hold political aspirants/candidates accountable for personal views. Secondly, how active should traditional media be in sharing the personal views of candidates to informed a mostly ‘ignorant’ electorate. Social media cannot be accused of suppressing information.

Chad99999999..Trump made a false claim stating that he gave ten thousand dollars to a911 Fund but the statement was a blantant lie. How can you support such a cheap huckster and a low life dog.”

Trump might be a loose cannon and unworthy as some say to be President but how can you support Obama in one breath and support in another Mrs Clinton who gave the public the impression she is for the Iran deal but calls it in discussions with her campaign team the worst deal since Neville Chamberlain handed Czechoslovakia to Hitler. What a devious individual and to think MRs Obama is forced to trumpet for her. Oh the hypocrisy of American politics. No wonder a political clown like Mr Trump has been able to garner such support.

Chad is just supporting what he himself is, what he himself would do…he is being himself…that is the core of the Trump supporter in their weak state and their pack mentality.

They never thought the fraud that is Trump would become unraveled before he slithered into the white house.., a calculated error for all of them, including Trump…lol

Boss, Bushie has been looking at some of Killary’s leaked emails and, to be honest, if some of Bushie’s emails were leaked by Wikileaks it would be more damaging…. 🙂 , and judging from the shiite you write on BU, your private emails must be downright howlers…

Shiite man…. surely you can come with something stronger against the damn woman.
…and no nonsense about how she makes lots of money by speeches, endorsements etc…. Bushie is still trying to work out how Trump, Lawson and you make yours…

Bushie is no supporter of women in leadership roles, but that presumes that there are MEN available to do the job. In the current circumstances where the alternatives are people of the ilk of Trump, Lawson and your good self, the people have NO CHOICE but to go with Hilary.

The country is like a damn widow……. de men dead!

    Face it.
    Trump is a chump…

Trump has called into question his (and others’) assertion that Clinton would be a poor choice for President because she has displayed poor judgement and choices in a number of areas of relevance to leadership of the USA, other governments in its sphere of influence and indeed the World.

But Trump’s horrific lack of proper judgment is evident in any balanced look at the numerous articles that speak to almost every aspect of his character. eg. Trump chose from very early in his campaign to attack Clinton on her husband’s proven infelicities rather than strategically drilling down on the clear political gaffes that she might have made in foreign policy etc.

He chose to develop a campaign that seems to be heavily focused on Bill Clinton’s infelicities and trying to provide a tenuous link between Hillary (as enabler) and these infelicities, thereby losing the possibility of bringing all his ammunition to bear on possibly provable weaknesses in Hillary and thereby enhancing his chances to win against her.

He arranges for an evident trickster to provide an alibi for him in the case of the 1st Class Airline groping gambit. The alibi cannot withstand scrutiny because of the person who gave it and the utterly unimaginable chances of that man being able to actually observe at all times the action of the two people in seats across from him in an airplane at that time where it is most unlikely that there would have been more than 2 seats side-by-side in the First class cabin. That alibi should have been left alone as it only tends to heap more circumstantial evidence against Trump and little for him.

Trump’s railings against various groups suggest an enormous lack of judgement.

His seeming alliances with traditional enemies of the USA and the appearance that he is unwilling to disengage from such alliances also suggest extremely poor judgement or an agenda that is not in accord with expectations from one who is seeking the presidency of the USA.

Trump’s lack of judgement will destroy him if higher forces are not at work to ensure that he gets the presidency despite all odds, the majority of which are self inflicted.

Meanwhile he and his campaign should be girdling their loins for the revelations from scores more of the women he has attacked over the years.

I wonder if MoneyBrain and Lawson and Chad55555 have been noting that not one of the women who have come forward to claim that Trump has interfered with them is a black woman?. Food for thought eh? But I suspect that they cannot connect the dots between the racism evident in such an observation and Trump’s trumpeting that suggests his sexual targets were only Caucasians who had a somewhat Germanic look.

I sincerely hope that no big october surprise is in store for Clinton that will allow Trump to win. It might be OK for a sexual predator to show such proclivities after he enters the white house but It might well be a disaster for such proclivities to be shown before he gets in. Anyhow, he won’t last long there as Impeachment proceedings will start apace if he gets in.

But this only demonstrates the US is a place where they throw away the key for some rapists (guilty and innocent) and give community service to a next set of rapists.

What you are seeing is America choking on its hypocrisy

  7. Trump has described women as ‘fat pigs”, “slobs”, “disgusting animals” and ‘dogs”, I wonder what the women who turn up at his rallies think about those comments.

@Are-we at 8:43 AM , LOLL re “…not one of the women who have come forward to claim that Trump has interfered with them is a black woman?. Food for thought eh?…”

Yes it’s food for thought but heh I don’t like Japanese sushi either. Am I racist because of that?

Did Tiger put his balls into one non-white cup? What about Bill (Cosby, that is) most of his non-compliant drug taking ladies where of a certain hue also.

Don’t get me wrong, I hear your point loudly but with Trump’s racist core so well described already I would have been completely flabbergasted if he had in fact done the ‘jungle fever’ ting.

I am now totally conflicted about a Trump victory. Win or lose the US is in for a turbulent four years.

If he wins his enterprises and ‘brand’ will be decimated. It befuddles my mind that he can 1) expect to ‘blind trust’ his business and 2) not have them bombed by terrorists. This will then draw him into more unhinged behaviour and it will surely result in an ill-advised action that starts a major conflagration. The world is screwed.

If he loses he will continue with his extremely vexatious rhetoric and it will cause serious civil strife before he is fully investigated and charged for some aspect of sedition/inciting unrest/collusion with a foreign power/increased Russia tension/whatever. And an arrest or any other scenario will cause much greater stress. The world is still screwed.

Clinton currently has a 90%+ polling average of victory. Better certainly than Obama had at this time of the cycle, YET Trump still seems in with a chance…so fah sure unfortunately some type of further October surprise awaits us.

@Pieces is doing his ‘stoopid carton’ best to make the Bajan elections at least 50% the tension of these elections and he may yet get it much higher; we are in for another humdinger in a few years.

That’s what I keep saying, whichever one, Trump or Killary slithers into the white hiuse, they are both looking at a well deserved early impeachment, so it does not really matter, with Killary, she has a better chance of sliding in because of Bills experience inckuding his impeachment.

It is remarkable to see an institution like UWI behaving as if it was a teenager. UWI is where we would find the greatest amount of book sense in the Caribbean and, it appears, the least amount of commonsense.

Indeed, the very next act of all the Caribbean governments should have been a slow release of funds to this institution. Hit them where they feel it most, in the pokerts or pockets.

  18. The October “surprise” was Clinton’s emails from wiki leaks but Trump’s big mouth wiped out what would have been a GOP advantage. The GOP is embracing Assange which is a far cry from what they were hoping to do with him after the leaks about the military action in Iraq and the diplomatic cables that he released to the USA’s embarrassment.

Politics make strange bed fellows and I wonder what the Assange, Putin, Trump triumvirate is (was) planning for the rest of us.

    Bushtea;

I hadn’t seen your 8:34 am post when I posted mine at 8:43. So I really need to say that I agree with you totally about the relative lack of importance of the supposed errors of judgement that Hillary made. They pale into absolute insignificance when viewed against Trump’s gargantuan exposure of his absolute unsuitability for the post of POTUS.

It is really instructive to see what the Republican rumour mill has been able to achieve against Hillary in over 30 years of focused selective rumour mongering against the woman when three well educated Bajan whites (or 2 whites and a black) can swallow hook line and sinker all the positive propaganda about Trump and the negative propaganda about Hillary.

It now appears that Obama has been warned to be careful by Trump otherwise the Trump Machine will trump up some sexual infelicity charges against him. To be forewarned is normally to be be forearmed, so I hope Obama knows what to do.

    De Ingrunt Word;

I wonder if you really got the point I was trying to make about Trump’s accusers. It was essentially to point out to Trump’s black supporters and Bajan white supporters that he was so racist that he wouldn’t even consider black women as worthy of being objects that he might interfere with. They did not reach his standards for extreme dalliance.

  24. @ Sargeant

That is precisely the point of any campaign.

You identify the central player/issues and you focus on them and, while you may from time to time bring up the sensational, like Bill’s indiscretions, you keep to the script.

He, Trump, is NOT A STRATEGIST, and is ignoring the direction of his advisors BECAUSE HE IS AN IDIOT.

The key thing was to focus on her (a) ability to make sound decisions (b) the Benghazi f-up and (c) her use of email in the way she did.

That was all he needed to do (maybe even include some **** of Weiner’s wife)

    Trump was a plant.

An incredulous plant who was to disrupt the support of the Republicans and leave the camp open to Hilary.

THEY, NEITHER CLINTON NOR TRUMP, DID NOT CALCULATE ON THE GROUNDSWELL OF SUPPORT that he would have secured and, like the hawk that he is, he decided that he would go for it.

They could not believe it and what he did was to make them believe that he was going to go al little longer in the breach and then abort.

They bought it and then had to do all sorts of searches to find this bombshell for what is 11 year old ammunition.

There are ways to defuse it but we will leave that there because he is an adolescent who is caught up in childish emotional outbursts and as such should not be next to nuclear codes.

  27. Very interesting opinions.

I made a film called The War You Don’t See, in which I interviewed distinguished journalists in America and Britain: reporters such as Dan Rather of CBS, Rageh Omar of the BBC, David Rose of the Observer.

All of them said that had journalists and broadcasters done their job and questioned the propaganda that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction; had the lies of George W. Bush and Tony Blair not been amplified and echoed by journalists, the 2003 invasion of Iraq might not have happened, and hundreds of thousands of men, women and children would be alive today.

The propaganda laying the ground for a war against Russia and/or China is no different in principle. To my knowledge, no journalist in the Western “mainstream” – a Dan Rather equivalent, say – asks why China is building airstrips in the South China Sea.

The answer ought to be glaringly obvious. The United States is encircling China with a network of bases, with ballistic missiles, battle groups, nuclear-armed bombers.

This lethal arc extends from Australia to the islands of the Pacific, the Marianas and the Marshalls and Guam, to the Philippines, Thailand, Okinawa, Korea and across Eurasia to Afghanistan and India. America has hung a noose around the neck of China. This is not news. Silence by media; war by media.

In 2015, in high secrecy, the US and Australia staged the biggest single air-sea military exercise in recent history, known as Talisman Sabre. Its aim was to rehearse an Air-Sea Battle Plan, blocking sea lanes, such as the Straits of Malacca and the Lombok Straits, that cut off China’s access to oil, gas and other vital raw materials from the Middle East and Africa.

In the circus known as the American presidential campaign, Donald Trump is being presented as a lunatic, a fascist. He is certainly odious; but he is also a media hate figure. That alone should arouse our scepticism.

Trump’s views on migration are grotesque, but no more grotesque than those of David Cameron. It is not Trump who is the Great Deporter from the United States, but the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Barack Obama.

According to one prodigious liberal commentator, Trump is “unleashing the dark forces of violence” in the United States. Unleashing them?

This is the country where toddlers shoot their mothers and the police wage a murderous war against black Americans. This is the country that has attacked and sought to overthrow more than 50 governments, many of them democracies, and bombed from Asia to the Middle East, causing the deaths and dispossession of millions of people.

No country can equal this systemic record of violence. Most of America’s wars (almost all of them against defenceless countries) have been launched not by Republican presidents but by liberal Democrats: Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Obama.

In 1947, a series of National Security Council directives described the paramount aim of American foreign policy as “a world substantially made over in [America’s] own image”. The ideology was messianic Americanism. We were all Americans. Or else. Heretics would be converted, subverted, bribed, smeared or crushed.

Donald Trump is a symptom of this, but he is also a maverick. He says the invasion of Iraq was a crime; he doesn’t want to go to war with Russia and China. The danger to the rest of us is not Trump, but Hillary Clinton. She is no maverick. She embodies the resilience and violence of a system whose vaunted “exceptionalism” is totalitarian with an occasional liberal face.

As presidential election day draws near, Clinton will be hailed as the first female president, regardless of her crimes and lies – just as Barack Obama was lauded as the first black president and liberals swallowed his nonsense about “hope”. And the drool goes on.

Described by the Guardian columnist Owen Jones as “funny, charming, with a coolness that eludes practically every other politician”, Obama the other day sent drones to slaughter 150 people in Somalia. He kills people usually on Tuesdays, according to the New York Times, when he is handed a list of candidates for death by drone. So cool.

In the 2008 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton threatened to “totally obliterate” Iran with nuclear weapons. As Secretary of State, she participated in the overthrow of the democratic government of Honduras. Her contribution to the destruction of Libya in 2011 was almost gleeful. When the Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi, was publicly sodomised with a knife – a murder made possible by American logistics – Clinton gloated over his death: “We came, we saw, he died.”

One of Clinton’s closest allies is Madeleine Albright, the former Secretary of State, who has attacked young women for not supporting “Hillary”. This is the same Madeleine Albright who infamously celebrated on TV the death of half a million Iraqi children as “worth it”.

Among Clinton’s biggest backers are the Israel lobby and the arms companies that fuel the violence in the Middle East. She and her husband have received a fortune from Wall Street. And yet, she is about to be ordained the women’s candidate, to see off the evil Trump, the official demon. Her supporters include distinguished feminists: the likes of Gloria Steinem in the US and Anne Summers in Australia.

A generation ago, a post-modern cult now known as “identity politics” stopped many intelligent, liberal-minded people examining the causes and individuals they supported – such as the fakery of Obama and Clinton; such as bogus progressive movements like Syriza in Greece, which betrayed the people of that country and allied with their enemies.

Self-absorption, a kind of “me-ism”, became the new zeitgeist in privileged western societies and signalled the demise of great collective movements against war, social injustice, inequality, racism and sexism.

Today, the long sleep may be over. The young are stirring again. Gradually. The thousands in Britain who supported Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader are part of this awakening – as are those who rallied to support Senator Bernie Sanders.

  28. Margaret Thatcher and Anthony Gilberthorpe in 2003.

The British man being put forward by Donald Trump’s campaign team as a witness to his innocence in a sexual assault allegation has a record of involvement in political scandal and unproved allegations, financial mismanagement and taking money from a newspaper to expose a Tory MP’s sex scandal.

Anthony Gilberthorpe, a 54-year-old former Tory activist, antiques dealer and Big Issue seller from Gloucestershire, claims his “photographic memory” enabled him to recognise Jessica Leeds when he saw her last week on a US news report talking about how Trump had assaulted her on a flight between Dallas and New York in 1979.

@Pieces, this schism about Trump being a plant is a wonderful ‘Manchurian’ candidate type story line. It has the wealthy, handsome leading man, the beautiful people, the sex, the intrigue and even death and last minute plot twist. It is a sure best seller. But it is fiction!

As a very smart man would you select an ultra competitive, alpha male egomaniac to be your fall-guy in the arrangement as you postulate? I think not. A man who had already made various forays at the Presidency…one sorta serious. If LeCarre or Ludlam or Childs had offered that as their key plot thesis I would read the book but be disappointed re the bad strategy of the Hillary character.

You do not test Hannibal Lecter to a game of wiles and you certainly don’t look an alpha dog directly in the eyes and call his bluff. We can condemn Trump as a molester and uncouth cretin but he is a supreme alpha-dog.

He is too confident and assured to be tested in the way you suggest…because he would never have released that prize once he got it between his teeth.

This man is not one with whom to play the games you suggest so although I accept that he is the ONLY republican candidate that Clinton could have defeated I offer that the plant theory is more an excellent yarn than plausible reality.

Consider that Donald Trump is so conniving that he would rhetorical release the ultimate insider talk that Clinton wanted to bribe him to become the candidate because she thought he would be a push over and work that perfectly into his narrative of her corruption and the massive conspiracy. He would be home and dry!

No Pieces, Trump is not the man with whom you play those games; he would eat her alive…and no salacious pun intended. But I am waiting for the final book though, it will be awesome.

@MB, what exactly are you projecting re that Observer paste at 4:31 PM?

I am unclear whether the author supports Trump or not but for surely Mr Trump is no more a candidate against “war, social injustice, inequality, racism and sexism” than Mrs Clinton is an egregious proponent for them!

What is offered in many area was gleaned throughout this campaign. The most crucial point is one David made on another blog which essentially heralded the absolute hypocrisy of life and politics.

Several facts are absolutely interesting and if one reads carefully you can see Trump in the echo chamber of the facts loudly presented here.

Mr Trump HIMSELF has said that Obama has deported more illegals in his tenure than previous presidents. Of course that is said sotto voce. Writ large he amplifies that Obama and Clinton want open borders. His wall process is a nonsense that will achieve no more than the current stringent polices with upgrades is not already doing. His is the same BS hypocrisy of which the author speaks.

Trump’s remarks about no wars is pure blarney. His comments about Japan and other getting nukes is double bluff BS. That is simply to fuel negotiations and agitate the world. He will likely engage in more wars if he wins than Clinton ever would. The author cites Clinton’s 2008 was remarks, Trump has made the very same type comment re ISIS. And i i he wins they WILL engage his properties and he will bomb their backsides. Again pure political hypocrisy.

The point about”… bogus progressive movements like Syriza in Greece” is extremely interesting. To short on a blog to get into that properly but why is Syriza bogus? Because its leader, after playing ‘call my bluff with Putin’ realized that in order to save his country he had to concede on some key metrics!

What exactly were you driving to senor with this reference?

  38. are-we-there-yet Avatar

    David;

    Look at the video again.

The Lady comes across to me as someone who has taken what should have been the core theme of the points that a serious Republican candidate should have been trumpeting but ones which Trump has glossed over, with a coherent presentation that tries to explain, inter alia, the apparent lack of progress for Blacks over the past several years in terms of a debatable failure of Obama to fulfill his promises. I think that Obama has actually done as much as and indeed more than could have been reasonablyexpected given the well telegraphed intransigence of the Republicans and their determination to ensure that history records him and his policies as failures. That debate has not been rationally or satisfactorily engaged so far but she succeeded in outlining the tenets of what the discussion would have been had Trump been anything but a charlatan.

Those are the issues that the campaign should have been fought over and the Lady puts over her points well. Trump was incapable of pushing those points believably and always ensured that they were hidden by his emphasizing extraneous matters.

    Look at the video again!

Thus far the details from the Wikileaks related to the Wall St speeches have been quite underwhelming. There must be a large shoe yet to drop otherwise the Clinton team missed a trick here. They could have baited Trump that they would release the speeches if he released his taxes,

The details from the speeches show political duplicity but nothing so egregious that is overly embarrassing or earth shattering. She is already seen as high wire shifty actor so nothing changes here.

She admitted she failed with Russian overtures or example with “Clinton added that Putin has rejected some of their attempts to work together “out of hand,” even as she displayed high class hypocrisy re the passage of the bill to rein in Wall St abuses.

This overall email dump is an awesome political class for all students of this game.

    Great stuff.

  44. This Election further reveals the hypocrisy that is the Evangelical Christian movement, the leadership of the various groups are twisting themselves into pretzels supporting Trump. People like Franklyn Graham, Tony Perkins, Ralph Reed, Jerry Falwell jr. and Robert Jeffress who in the past said “character matters” and are for traditional – read- family values have abandoned those principles with a candidate Trump. They all have some things in common, White, conservative, male and Christian, they are never heard on the social issues of the day except for vocal rants against abortion. They are silent about the plight of the poor, minimum wage and police violence against minorities, people in those camps are not members of their constituency.

If an Obama had done and said the same things as Trump they would be heating up the airwaves about the moral decay in America and he would be vying to be in charge of the outhouse, but Trump is still revered in the eyes of these phonies who claim to be ‘men of God’, they are politicians posing as preachers.

“The Internet Is Practically Begging Michelle Obama To Run For President

    FLOTUS for POTUS take two?

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered what some are calling the most important speech of the 2016 presidential election, in which she declared, “I can’t believe I am saying that a candidate for president of the United States has actually bragged about sexually assaulting women,” she told a crowd. “This is not normal. This is not politics as usual. This is disgraceful. This is intolerable.”

Like virtually all other first spouses before her, Obama remains much more popular than her husband in the polls.

But with Hillary Clinton paving the way, could Michelle Obama’s powerful advocacy translate into elective office, even the presidency itself? She’s been adamant that she won’t seek political office, or even work in politics, once her husband leaves office next January. Nonetheless, people are talking …. No, practically begging her to run for the presidency. After her speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer, some writers officially made the call, as Brent Budowsky wrote: “I will predict that the odds are even money or better that Michelle Obama will ultimately be drafted to run for the Senate and will run and be elected.” He says that would then set the stage for her to run for the top office a few years later. But a growing contingent of fans online don’t have time to wait for all that:

What do you think? Barring some tragic event, Hillary Clinton will presumably win this year’s election and run for re-election in 2020. That gives Michelle Obama several years to re-think her opposition to running.

And if that happens, 2024 could be yet another historic election following the first black president and the first black female president.”

  46. Michelle made this very Political speech too and we know she does not really believe this:

“It’s not locker room talk. I don’t know men who talk that way. Decent men do not talk that way. What Trump was talking about was sexual assault,” Michelle Obama said during a visit to New Hampshire.
“Men brag, and she is telling people that she doesn’t know men who brag. You know the people that have been to the White House?” Ralph said. (WARNING: Some of the language here and later in the story may be offensive to some readers.)
“How about some of the rappers that talk about their b****** and their hos have performed such lyrics in the White House? But she doesn’t know men who talk and sing about sexual assault. It’s all over hip-hop lyrics and has been for a while!
“So is assault on the police a feature of some hip-hop lyrics, and it’s been performed at the White House. But she doesn’t know men who talk that way. She doesn’t know decent guys who talk that way.”
A “sermon” by the Obamas’ former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
“Yeah, I guess Michelle Obama wasn’t there when the Rev. Wright was talking about Bill Clinton,” Ralph said “You remember what Rev. Wright said about Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky? … ‘And Bill and Monica Lewinsky was riding dirty. Yeah, chickens have come home to roost, baby.’ ‘Bill was riding dirty,’ and the population, the congregation went nuts.”
Let’s not forget Michelle’s BFF, Beyoncé. Here are some of her lyrical exploits (WARNING AGAIN: graphic language):
“Can you lick my Skittles, it’s the sweetest in the middle / Pink is the flavor, solve the riddle”
“I can’t wait till I get home so you can turn that cherry out / I want you to turn that cherry out, turn that cherry out”
“First both of my legs go back on your head, and whatever you want, yeah baby, I’m bad”
“Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged / Yeah, he’s so h**** he wants to f*** / He popped all my buttons and he ripped my blouse/ He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown / Oh daddy, daddy, he didn’t bring the towel / Oh baby, baby, we better slow it down”
“Over there I swear I saw them cameras flash / Hand prints and footprints on my glass / Hand prints and good grips on my a**”
    “Gimme that daddy long stroke”
The first lady, meanwhile, calls her a role model.
