Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss
Minister Donville Inniss

Recently a shipment of chicken wings was destroyed by the Ministry of Commerce after it was discovered it landed on the island illegally. What concerns the BU household is the response from several Bajans who were quick to cry fowl to the decision to incinerate the wings. Why? Bajans love their wings, what a waste of good wings they cried!

How was Bhana located at Cave Hill given permission to land the chicken wing shipment in Barbados? How long has Continental Foods been scrubbing labels?

  1. Was that Dwight Sutherland on the air today pelting some blows in Donville this afternoon?

According to him a small % of the illegal wings were destroyed. This should please all of you with concerns about wasting good food.

He also made the same point as BU this morning that all stakeholders should be encouraged to speak publicly to the issues, the days are gone to explore government help desk given the entrenched culture of silence, lack of transparency and malfeasance.

It would be interesting to find out if any of these so-called businessmen (peddlers of disease-inducing food) is a resident in Dumbville’s constituency and who supplies all the free food on regular offer to the greedy obese voters.
If a man has no moral compass in his own business dealings in naked human flesh on show do you think he would care one iota about the importation of dead diseased birds steeped in formaldehyde for preservation to be consumed by gluttonous black Bajans?

Muslims, my donkey. The only allah these people really worship and follow is the Almighty Dollar.
They are not allowed to deal in alcohol according to Sharia; yet they sell it to stupid Christian blacks. Don’t be surprised if the itinerant salesmen (aka in Bajan parlance coolie men) start selling rejected or contaminated food (or in Bajan talk, ‘blow food’) to stupid Bajans as part of the fare in their Saturday and Sunday rounds.

What has become of the plan to build a Muslim only community and mosque in the Queens College area?
    Has planning permission been granted?

It is no wonder that real Christian fundamentalists believe that their god curse black people with Bajans at the head of the ‘cursed’ queue.

I already gave the information about destroying a token amount of dirty wings to appease the natives. Most went on the market. As a result of this, somebody should have John Nurse as their landlord for a while.

Miller…there is a hell of a lot more going on that we can intuit. Donville is crying too much in the background, he is up to his neck in that nastiness or he would not so openly defy and contradict Fruendel’s statement. Him threatening to resign should backfire, why don’t he just offer the resignation..he knows Fruendel will take it cause he been attempting a coup for quite some time.

We are left to wonder what Donville’s been promising all these business people if he overthrows Fruendel…something is very wrong when these issues with permissions etc have been going on forever, the inefficiencies and incompetencies in Donville’s departments which he refuses to fix as minister. …Donville never said a word in all that time, but suddenly, he is up in arms.

More in the mortar than the pestle.

And besides Fruendel needed to distract from the auditor general’s report which he still refuses to speak to the taxpayers about all that missing money but that and the Maloney scandal goes hand in hand….whether he quickly removed himself as far away from the town planning portfolio and Maloney scandal as he could get… .

  6. A colleague went into a certain west coast supermarket last weekend and couldn’t understand the frenzy to get chicken wings. They were going like hot cakes.I enlightened him.The picture was clear as that was the first time he had noticed chicken wings available on display to the public in that supermarket.

If Juman was willing to pay Roy Morris $20,000 to File 13 the story he was about to publish on the expiry date fiddle, one wonders how much, and to whom , Bhana has paid out over the years to facillitate shipping containers dropping off the ship at Brandons. Now we are beginning to believe the Commissioner of Police, relative to guns and ammunition similarly falling off the ship at the Bridgetown Port.

  10. Donville gave the impression that he was off island for past 10 days then admitted that Paul briefed him about it.You would have thought that the report would have filtered down to the PS for follow up.Nope, about 2 weeks of condemned chicken wings were sold to unsuspecting consumers while Inniss was off island. Here is a minister who cares!

“We have to breathe the stinking piles of garbage all around us, and God know what is in the water we are drinking, beside the rust from the unhygienic BWA water tankers, which for many is a daily feature.”

Soldier, you have hit the target bang on, or in civvies’ lingo, the proverbial nail on its head.
The vital prescription for healthy living is first clean air and then potable water which are the primary ingredients for good public sanitation.
Barbadians have been rather fortunate to enjoy these two vital ingredients for a healthy and long life for over the 100 years. Today, it seems as if both are under severe threat, as you quite rightly pointed out.

A compromised public sanitation system (poor garbage disposal polluted air and limited potable water) could be the undoing of the social lining and economic fabric of Barbados both of which have served its citizens well until recently.

The fountain in Bridgetown near to the so-called Heroes Square is not there to function as the public toilet for its many vagrants but as a constant reminder of the vital role water plays in the country’s social health and its enviable economic development as a small island state and also as a grim indicator of what can happen again should there be a return to the public sanitation conditions of the 1850’s when an outbreak of cholera, possibly introduced by visiting sailors, decimated the population.

  19. Tonight on DLP TV we were treated to the bugly man Loew saying that SSA will not be picking up certain “stuff”,and furthermore,SSA has been told to mark bags of green “stuff” and leave them for the householder to dispose,so I suppose the gullies and roadsides will again be littered with “stuff”.
There was a time when the rates paid for property taxes were supposed to include this service.People like Loew would never have known this. The man is so out of his depth. What the public wants to know is what is to be done with the tree, plant and grass trimmings all of which cannot possibly be converted to mulch. If this DLP government do not know what management is about, step aside and let the citizens place representatives who do.We recall Brandford Taitt made a mess of Mt Stinkeroo. It was only when the DLP government was replaced that a solution was found to correct the foul smell emanating from Mangrove and also for the orderly pick up of garbage,in my case twice a week like clockwork.

  20. Do you really think that Lowe and his cohorts cares a damn if Barbados swims ,s*** or sink? How in one breath you can come to the people and say that Tourism is our Number 1 wage earner, Play your part. Then we invite people from all over the world to visit, only to find Lowe’s garbage covering the island from North Point to South Point. It bad enough when a country is governed by a single inept dictator, but to have one in charge of every ministry is too much to take.

  21. I recall an incident some years ago while out on a major military exercise.A signal came through that the Corn Beef in the ration packs were suspect. There were all removed, tens of thousands across the British Military World, and in our case placed under the tracks and wheels of army vehicles, and crushed into the soil.
If only I knew then a couple of Bahnas and Jumans in Barbados, I could now be relaxing in a villa in Sugar Hill, not the one in St Joseph.

They better start banning those imports, I already contacted people I know and told them start buying their chicken and meats from farmers who grow them on the island…..put those greedy indians endangering people’s lives out of business….what does the government prefer, a few jobs compared to a healthcare system overburdened by sick people and hundreds of people dropping dead.

  23. If as Minister Denis Lowe says the Sanitation Service Authority workers will be instructed not to pick up the green waste what are we supposed to do with it then? The guy who takes care of my yard/garden is new to the field and does not yet have a vehicle/cannot afford a vehicle, so he neatly bags the green waste for pickup by the SSA. I do not have a vehicle/cannot afford a vehicle either.

So what are we to do?

Fire a good workman because he cannot afford a truck?

Leave my bags of green waste in front of my house until the pile is a high as Donald Trump’s proposed wall?

Dump the green waste on my neighbour’s property?

Dump my green waste in the nearest gully?

Stop having my yard cleaned and so give good breeding grounds to mosquitoes, rats etc.?

Cover my entire yard with concrete and so increase water runoff/flooding down stream?

    Stop paying my property tax?

Put the bags of green waste on my head and walk them to the landfill? (I am honestly too old and too broken to do this)

I pay $700 per year in property taxes and I always supposed that the property tax was for the removal of waste, fixing of roads etc.

Will the Minister instruct the Barbados Revenue Authority to give me a refund of my property taxes then?

    The people want to know.

  24. This is the same government which pulled down the Fairchild Street market and is now attempting to chase the vendors off the streets.

If there is no market where should the vendors sell then?

    Should they stop working?

  25. Sunshine Sunny Shine Avatar

    Simple Simon

Is that a fair statement to make? The vendors natural instinct compels them to sell in areas where the flow of people is the most. They think the markets are dead ends and not attractive enough to bring people in. However, a close look at their operations would tell you where the real problem lies. They need to effect some serious changes if they want to attract their fair share of the market instead of lining the bridges thinking that is the best place to be for sales. An open market concept is good, but the vendors seem to think open mean shanty, makeshift, bad attitudes or that anything goes. The government cannot always be blamed for everything they are at fault for most things.

Now there is a real eye opener for bajans.

Government is also very culpable in this, ban imports, indian people should not be allowed to contribute to the overburdening of the healthcare system, targeting children with their unhealthy fast foods which is internationally unlawful, changing labels on expired foods to sell on the market and importing tainted, rejected meats illegally from the UK……..make sure there are criminally charged for this nasty behavior against the citizens. Health care professionals should not have to fear speaking out about this in a majority black country….there are less than 4 thousand indians in Barbados….wake the hell up people and take back ya coubtry from unscrupulous and greedy business people..

Exactly what are the government ministers on the island doing to protect the population from this type of dangerous criminality…..targeting food.

  27. Simple Simon;
“I pay $700.00 per YEAR in property taxes.” That works out to less than $60.00 per month. For Garbage collection, fixing of roads, and so on?

All you have to do with your green waste is to get a drum, put all your garden waste, left over food, vegetable waste etc, cover that load with some earth, and whenever you have green waste add it to the drum. moisten it with some water and leave it. It would not smell it will settle and within a short time you will have a pile of good compost to add to whatever plants you;or your neighbour, may have. Not too difficult. Less stressful, and more in keeping with what your $60.00 dollars can buy in government services. Too many people like you think that the amount they pay in taxes can provide for that amount of money. It cannot.

Truer words have not been spoken. I would add that they feel it is their right to sell wherever they want to set up, even if it is blocking the road; Marhill road, Spry Streest, the BLP provided them with a refurbished Cheapside Market, but some of them refuse to go in there and sell outside, unfailing those in the market, who PAY while they do not, and congest the sidewalk and destroy the surroundings. Should they be left alone to do as they like? Should there be no discipline? Is this the type of society we should have? Shouldn’t “government” act against these attitudes?

  32. Finally something I can agree with, Alvin! And also, SSS, you are quite right about the vendors. They need to clean up their acts. In fact, MOST BARBADIANS need to clean up their acts. What the ministers need to do is find a way to connect the dots for those who cannot do it for themselves. AND LOCK UP the delinquents who absolutely refuse to stop killing us!

  33. But Alvin, that agreement does not apply to your comments about Americans not standing for any dooflicky with their foods. Are you kidding me? They feed their people more POISON that we do! Plenty of food poison in their milk and honey. Plenty of lying labels. Plenty of rat meat being sold in Chinese restaurants. Plenty of pharmaceuticals companies pushing death in a bottle. Please, stop holding up America as ANY standard. We got MSN! And wait, aren’t those clowns considering Donald Trump for president? They’re more messed up that we are! News for some but not for me.

  34. Donna,
I never, and would never hold America as any sort of paragon of virtue, for anything. I have lived there and in Canada long enough to be aware of their wickedness. The ease with which they can advertise and advocate a pill for everything has to be condemned. The pharmaceutical companies rip off innocent persons with exorbitant prices for cheap drugs. No I do not hold America as any kind of standard.

  35. Well Well,
What is the matter with you? You are educated, yet you ask inane questions like: “…Exactly what are the government ministers on the island doing to protect the population from this type of dangerous criminality…..targeting food.” Ministers and members of Parliament enact legislation . The legislation is there passed and proclaimed. Do you expect the “MINISTERS” to go out there and arrest the vendors, or do like Yeshua and overturn the trays and throw away the fruit? The persons who are authorized to ENACT the laws are supposed to to THEIR jobs and move the vendors, and or arrest those who break the laws. Ministers do not have the authority to arrest anyone.
You know this too, but you are being purposely difficult and want to foment; among those who know no better, animosity against the MINISTERS, and to a lesser extent members of government. Somehow, in your eyes, members of the opposition are exempt.

  36. Alvin,

Members of parliament enact legislation championed by ministers but ministers have another job to do. That is, making sure that OTHER PEOPLE do their jobs. The buck, my dear Alvin, stops with them. There are obstacles that stand in their way but with the backing of the majority and even ONE BALL a change could be made. But to get the majority to trust them and follow they must be trustworthy. And therein lies the BIG PROBLEM.

And one more thing, don’t know where you got the impression that Well Well absolves the Opposition from blame. You are either losing your faculties or you are deliberately misrepresenting facts that can be easily verified in the BU postings FOR THIS MONTH and I’d hazard a guess and say probably even YESTERDAY, Alvin. See why I can’t trust anything you say, Alvin?

DIVIDING UP THE EFFING GARBAGE AT THE EFFING SOURCE

Any as*hole government that was/is concerned about conserving rather extending the life of a landfill on a finite island would have created a simple BADWORD project like this.

the bind could themselved have been made from tyre crumb similar to the project that Dr. Jean Balleau from the Wildlife Reserve had proposed 25 effing years ago and which by not would have meant that every effing house in Bulbados would have had 4 recycle bins in front of it for (a) glass (b) plastics (c) biodegradables and (d) tin

A community compost bin/heap/collection procedure could have been used for the leaves and wood for woodchip, mulch or recyclable compost.

THe prisoners at Doods would have been best deployed to make the recycled bin extrusions

It would have been a United Nations Global Environment Fund Project and (the excess tires in the landfill would have been addressed (b) the prisoners would offset their bed and keep (c) they would have been paid a deferred income and (d) the $$ that the bins made producing local and regional bins would be an offset to government operations

Now, like you have said, we are going to have our gullies filled with the detritus

  43. @ All

I have for some time now 25 years been advocating a “differently purposed” constitution river causeway.

I first suggested that it be made into a tributary to lead traffic in and out of Bridgetown since (a) its natural causeway ran from Waterford, actually right up to Ras Bongo Spears place in Arthur Seat, to the mouth of the constitution and (b) with the widening of the River Road through Brittons Hill path to the Peoples Cathedral, past the Pine Gardens, it could be joined to the Pine East West Causeway for exodus or exit to St George/St Philip

Interamerican Development Development Bank BR0055 : Drainage, Roads : Belem
    Project Status Approved

THIS IS A SPECIAL DRAINAGE, POTABLE WATER, SEWAGE AND TRANSPORT PROJECT WHICH WILL TRANSFORM A THIRD OF THE CITY OF BELEN, INTO A DRY AREA WITH TRANSPORT AND DRAINAGE INFRASTRUCTURE AS WELL AS ACCESS TO POTABLE WATER AND SEWAGE SERVICES.

But that would mean men of vision and we are, under our BDLP governance systems, bereft of such men

  44. @ my dear friend SSS

Leading on from that dual purposed causeway this really was part of the reuslt of that seemingly unconnected string

When I was talking to Jean Balleau, (he had an entire project mapped out, and actually had samples) in the back of my mind I was thinking of a variant of these colourful shack-shack structures, made of recyclable materials, bedecked across the landscape of Bridgetown, easily constructible and removable.

Imagine if, when the boardwalk at the Carenage was being built that a reinforced “T” beam had been used to permit that the visually aesthetic shacks were placed on the northern side of the carenage running all the way up to the ZR stand and to the back of the old Queens College.

Imagine if we had “modernized” the old huckster concept of years ago and as a requirement of plying ones’ goods there demanded (a) the place is cleaned every night (b) the vendors wore a “quaint” uniform?

    http://www.waterfrontshopsduck.com/assets/images/shops/north-beach1.jpg

And do not tell me anything about mosquitoes causing dem peeple selling there now and have been selling there for years and to the best of my knowledge, they have cleaned up the Constitution (if it was not you I would have spelt it the right way)

That is another Small Islands Developing States “Sustainable Cities” initiative which the Interamerican Development Bank would possibly fund.

THe architecture is not inconsistent with the UNESCO Designation for Bridgetown and its Garrison

And it would seek to truly operationalize having the “small man” participate in the economic wealth that is supposed to be in Barbados but which we, people in the castle of my skin” are repeatedly denied

Darling Suzanne, “where there is no vision the people perish”

  45. @ Donna
It is currently NOT possible to make the churches any shiitier.

When an institution that holds the key to the most valuable knowledge available to mankind, can be reduced to ritualistic, materialistic, lackies and mendicants whose main role seems to be kowtowing to the albino-centric moguls of this messes-up world….. how can it be made shiitier?

Froon, Stinkliar and Lowe would fit admirably into any damn church in Barbados today…..and conversely, any of the current church ‘leaders’ would do the same illiterate shiite being excreted by the current politicians ….were THEY to be exchanged in roles.

Can you imaging that we have David(BU) here systematically exposing wickedness and evil at all levels of our society, and we CANNOT hear a single word from ANY “church leader”?

    Steupsss…
Froon has been silenced by the baloney bribes of the albino-centrics…
Church leaders have been silenced by the bribe of ‘tax-free’ status…

    Six=half dozen = lotta shiite.

  46. @Bush Tea

This is an emotional argument but is there not a case for Bizzy and SBRC to sit with government to insert an addendum to the existing agreement? What has been agreed is not working, a drive all across Barbados reveals piles of garbage everywhere. What will Crop Over bring?

  47. Well Well & Consequences Avatar

The government is responsible for picking up that garbage…if any of those ministers had the intelligence of geese, Bizzy would be picking up the garbage seeing as he gets over 1 million of taxpayer’s money every month for doing nothing compliments of that retard Dennis Lowe, while Lowe and Bizzy try to unfair the garbage haulers to pay to pick up the garbage and Bizzy sits on his ass robbing the taxpayers….where is the equality in that….I don’t see Maloney’s retarded employee Brathwaite talking about that.

Alvin…you hypocrite….recently the mighty Loblaws had a scandal where they were relabelling expired food products…..one of their employees took photos and went to the press…I bet you stopped buying food products in there until Loblaws stopped the practice because there was an investigation……I bet you did not dare open your ass and said anything when people called for sanctions against Loblaws.

  48. The solution is to find out where Loew lives and dump all your “stuff” right on his doorsteps. You will see how quickly the sleeping giant from Marley Vale will wake up.If you are threatened with court, get Vernon to hold your brief. That way it won’t be heard for another 20 years and counting.

    My Sweet Piece

These days I am as busy as a bee. Do not have much time to contribute to BU like before but when I have time I do. Now my darling, hm mmmm mmmm smack. That kiss is for being a very sensible and intelligent senior with a youthful mind. I am happy to report also that our poster protest is making the rounds around the world where ever bajans live and are concerned about what is happening on the rock of all our ages. It is causing many to pay interest.

As to this whole issue of vending, which I think we have exhausted on this blog before, we are dealing with mean people with disgusting habits and very bad attitudes.

After nearly 100 or more years of vending in Barbados, the only thing that has changed is the infrastructure in the areas where vending takes place.

The attitude to vending remains an approach that is expressed in squalor, confusion, bad displays, impoverishment and the all familiar ” if you buy my carrots you got to buy some beans, too.”

You cannot change 100 years of bad practice by telling those lot to do what is right. That is like telling Satan to repent and be baptise for the remission of his sins.

This type can only change through force and penalization. So I would suggest that the authorities force change upon this lot. They can start by making them set up their operations to look like this in an open market.
