Recently a shipment of chicken wings was destroyed by the Ministry of Commerce after it was discovered it landed on the island illegally. What concerns the BU household is the response from several Bajans who were quick to cry fowl to the decision to incinerate the wings. Why? Bajans love their wings, what a waste of good wings they cried!

How was Bhana located at Cave Hill given permission to land the chicken wing shipment in Barbados? How long has Continental Foods been scrubbing labels?

SSS…I am playing with Alvin and Frustrated…both are going to cause real names to be called the bribing, bribetaking, gun running , drug trafficking and money laundering on the island. If they dont watch their asses, they too will be caught in thatt name callin,., Frustrated claims he’s a businessman, they are noe all vulnerable to searches….particular import, export…paying bribes will not help anymore….the politicians are in CYA mode.

Alvin’s name is aleady front and center in the Cahill scam….they both better watch out…they can call me anything…lol

Killing themselves too. if you think that the rate of hypertension and heard disease in black Bajans is bad, you need to talk to some medical people to see what the bad eating is doing to our citizens of Asian descent.”

In such families it is not too unusual to have both parents dead from heard disease before the age of 60.

  3. Tyrone Griffith, Commissioner of Police, has advised the public on more than one occasion that guns are being brought into Barbados through our ports of entry. He should know!

    @Pacha

It was reported the wings were destroyed.

    While it is morally reprehensible…..

Is it a criminal offence to change labels or “best before dates” on food containers/packages?

  5. @ The Honourable Blogmaster

To your everlasting credit these 9 years of agitation and cyber advocacy are paying off.

There is a specific statement that I am seeing in Roy Morris’ statement/editorial that whether it is just a ploy to sell more papers or an honest turnaround, I am unsure, but it is heartening

    Roy Morris writes

“If you want real investigative journalism, tell the leadership of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) and the Democratic Labour Party you will not support them in any future election if they donโ€™t pledge to enact a modern Defamation Act and Freedom of Information Act, and have them passed before the next election, or in the case of the BLP, have a fully complete and published draft of each as an addendum to its manifesto.”

That woke up de ole man.

Cause here you have the traditional newspapers starting to realise that they HAVE GOT TO enter into the fray, either willingly or unwillingly, or they will be left behind.

Their decreasing numbers are starting to tell and they are waking up, against their will to the fact that Naked Departure and BU and the FaceBook spaces are tekking the community, the island, the region and the world by storm.

Either they join the fight or they close down the newspaper(s)

And the interpersonal dynamics is working too.

Roy Used to be at Barbados Today and based on his personal history with Peter Harris, the real Editor of that newspaper, he has decided to drop the gauntlet against former “friend” in so far as Peter Harris the slimeball can pretend to be your friend.

“All things Work TOgether for Good for They Who Love the Lord”

  6. @PUDRYR

    Hail to the Collective!

  7. This is brilliant, Roy. You’re is right that there is a real risk of local Mafia operatives threatening people. If you have details of corruption in the private sector or public services I am sure British newspapers will be interested.
Send me the details on austinhal@excite and I will make sure that Fleet gets the details.

A fisherman once told me that on occasions they would come across chicken dumped at sea by the health authorities, probably from one of the fast food outlets, and that they would “harvest” them and sell them to some of the sleazy restaurants in Bridgetown.

  9. @Well Well, and everybody.
Playing Russian Roulette with the health of the nation is CRIMINAL and completely unacceptable. and should be punished to the full extent of the law. People can get killed by relabeling expired food. BOTULINISM is a serious and deadly cause of food contamination and can and will result in death. That is why we have health inspectors, who MUST do their jobs unafraid and unfettered. I WOULD NEVER CONDONE NOR WOULD I BE A PARTY TO ANYONE WHO CONDONES THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOUR. Despite your own personal opinion of me;you are very wrong, very wrong, because I know me, I AM A PERSON OF HIGH INTEGRITY. I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER BE BRIBED OR INTIMIDATED BY ANYONE. I HAVE LIVED BY THAT QUOTATION FROM SHAKESPEARE’S OTHELLO: “HE WHO STEALS MY PURSE STEALS TRASH, BUT HE WHO STEALS MY GOOD NAME ….”. I HAVE BEEN A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS. I KNOW THE DANGERS OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING. I CALL ON THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES TO DO THE NECESSARY URGENTLY. THERE IS TOO MUCH TO LOSE. You do not know me. That is why I can tolerate your epithets with equanimity. They are false and without basis except in your own head. That’s why I can excuse you.
I keep telling you Well Well, and have been telling you for years, You have no credible evidence with regard to Cahill. In my contributions since 2014 I HAVE BEEN SAYING that the evidence has to be CREDIBLE and LEGALLY acceptable. Rumour and innuendo are not legally credible or acceptable, in any court of law or to me.. And despite everything that has taken place, the problem still remains; there is no room for any more landfills in the island, and the garbage still keeps piling up. The problems with SBRC and the BOLT agreement that was signed BEFORE the present government came into office are still there and will remain, even if the present government is tossed out.The new government then has to solve the problems. The proposal for an Anaerobic digestion process is just another scam; proposed by the same “big players” I mentioned since in 2014, who are now revealing themselves;as late as yesterday.

Miller you ask for particulars of BLACK persons who are bribe takers. I refer you to this copy of Well Well’s contribution:
” It does not need mentioning that bajan authorities and parliamentarians, politicians and ministers of government in Barbados from both political parties have been taking bribes and selling out themselves, the people and island to minority indians, whites and in between for over 40 years, the island is a majority black nation, they are all black peopleโ€ฆ.everyone inside and outside of Barbados knows this Alvin.”
Does this answer your question? She paints everyone with the same brush, so you are also included, having served in a past administration?

I speak under correction, but whenever things like this come to light and/or publicly discussed, the refrain appears to be the same (most of the time): “Poor black Barbadians Suffer.” As if there can be no other Barbadian but a black Barbadian. And he/she is always suffering. This appears to be our battle cry.

Have we forgotten that there are poor non-Blacks also in Barbados who are good and decent and just trying to survive like everyone else in Bdos and who try to do the right thing? Have we ignored how Blacks treat their fellow Blacks in certain African countries? Will there ever be a day when we just recognize ourselves as “Barbadian” and not White/Black/Indian/Other Barbadian? Is it not the electorate that puts our Black politicos in power? If we really wanted to stop corruption, couldn’t we start by demanding more of our politicians?

Yes of course there will always be a group trying to take advantage of other groups. That’s not new, that’s part of the nature of humanity and being human. Whites abuse whites, Blacks abuse Blacks, Indians abuse Indians. We all abuse each other across racial lines.

On the subject of the wings. Why destroy them? If they were fit for consumption, could they not have been donated to the Salvation Army, or some entity that could have made a meal out of them for the poor? Was the last resort to destroy them?

  11. @ Humanity and Wings.

Destruction of the Wings, while it might seem harsh might be a procedure employed for the following reasons

    (a) the source of the food is suspect and the processing of said food exposes it to the same issues of food poisoning that, even if you give it to the Sanitation Army, you risk poisoning or “pisning” Bajans whom the Salvation Army feeds

(ii) Some entrepreneurs at the Salvation Army might start a low cost chicken wing concern and we end up with the same situation.

Your second observation about their being poor whites, and indians and chinese etc like how there are poor, the majority of us poor, blacks speaks to the issue that has besieged the country and our region for years.

We simply have been unable to integrate our society’s various ethnic groupings like we try periodically to do with interfaith religious services.

So when David Thompson Died we have everybody at the Oval talking but that is purely superficial and it is something that we allow solely for the few hours to bury the King of the Fatted calf.

If my son black like midnight, you dont want him at A. Fields pearly white daughter house and vice versa. Our system never sought integration, it promotes a poor semblance of toleration.

The concept of which you speak “that we are all Bajans, is at best a Utopian construct, which, we, you, me, and all of us, enjoy and prop up, edify and will give up our lives to make sure that “Separate but Equal” lives on

That is why we have the chant “can’t we all just get along?”

  12. The Chief Rat Catcher of Furniture Limited fame many years ago sold us diseased chicken. She is still a very successful business person today and is one of the major contributors to this government political campaign. I remember the then minister of health the late Brandford Taitt stating that he saw nothing wrong with us BLACK BARBADIANS eating diseased chicken because we were eating chicken for a very long time.
Nothing that the nasty rat catching stinking Indians do is a surprise to me.That race is capable of doing any and everything possible that is evil.
Barbados is being destroy not only by inept leadership but also by many of us Black Barbadians who refused to stand up as men and women to demand justice.
We have coward leaders in every shhere of activity as well as coward Barbadians.
    We are a hopeless lot

It was heartening to read Roy Morris’s expose’ today. This is a good move.Let’s see if the overseeing arm of the ministry of health will do what they did to one of the Miller family when Brandford Taitt was Minister of Health. Both parties have since been gathered to their fathers and hopefully are now at rest although I doubt the former is.Politicians seem to think that they are omnipotent so some might still be at work stoking the fires of Hades.

  15. Roy Morris also made an observation no one here has touched on, the fact that no food wholesaler except Shopsmart has inquired who the fraud importer and remover of food labels are. Do they even care?

The blacks on the island who have very little respect for themselves to take bribes originating from taxpayer funded contracts….know who they are and have to live with themselves and remember what they did in their fast approaching older years….thst is one burden that will not be mine.

You are lying about the Ionic Bizzy contract, it expired under Fruendel’s government and instead of doing right by the people, the government ministers renewed the same scam….AND ..?helped Bizzy create a new scam against the taxpayers 7 years ago. ..SBRC. .. to steal more taxpayers money, take bribes and disenfranchise the garbage haulers….admit it Alvin…you and all the crooks are a waste of space and oxygen.

  18. Surely selling expired foods in a relabeled package is a matter for both the DPP and the Fair Trading Commission, not only the Minister of Health?

DPP because it is fraud / misrepresentation, as a consumer may not buy if correctly labelled.

Fair Trading Commission, because the consumer / buyer would likely buy for substantially less if correctly labelled, or not buy at all.

But then, one of the things that has disappointed me greatly about the direction of the island is that form counts over substance, in both commercial as well as public, enterprises.

    This is no different.

You have clearly stated that your hands are tied by the existing defamation act etc.

Cnat some of the stuff that “your hands are tied with” fall out of the nation virtual records like the 1000 pound ream of paper fell out of the production room on that Lister truck the day that Harold came in and found the fellow transporting it out the back door?

Why after all Roy, now that it is obvious that you drawing the line in the sand with bribes, IF YOUR HANDS ARE TIED due to defamation laws, you could as well let the rest uh tings that you cant print fall into BU’s lap!!

For email items you forward the email to someone in the US or Englant.

THey go into on of those internet cafes and retrieve the email on a machine delete all your inline text and cut and paste it into a next email and send it to BU

The good thing about kicking the ministers out of parliament is Maloney and Bizzy et al would not want to see the Fruendels, Donvilles and Lashleys when they are no longer in leadership positions. …there will be no further use for them and they will not be invited to any functions or to these people’s homes….house niggas have a short shelf life.

And is he merely blowing smoke to the wind or is there something meaningful to his calls for the electorate to turn their backs on both parties unless FOI and other legislation is passed?

The politics is getting heated all over.

  23. @Humanity and Wings June 15, 2016 at 2:34 PM “On the subject of the wings. Why destroy them? If they were fit for consumption, could they not have been donated to the Salvation Army, or some entity that could have made a meal out of them for the poor? Was the last resort to destroy them?”

They were destroyed because since DISHONESTY had taken place it would be impossible for the Ministry of Health to verify where the wings had come from, how they had been stored, at what temperature etc. Chicken is highly perishable and bad chicken can cause severe illness.

And no it is not right to suggest that the poor who use the Salvation Army’s meal program, or any other poor people should be made to eat food on uncertain provenance.

Dear David: As usual I have a story. Many years ago I used to shop at Budg Buy, Black Rock. One evening I bought a liter of milk, took it directly home and refrigerated it immediately. The next morning i gave my child a bowl of cereal and cold milk. The child who was not quite 5 years old, experienced severe diarrhea and vomiting, lost 20% of its body weight, missed 5 days of school, and required 2 visits to the doctor. I thought that the child was going to die. Afterwards I heard that that supermarket had been in the habit of unplugging their refrigeration at night. I called the store and their response was “how can you prove that it was our milk which made your child sick?” My response was that a second child of the household who liked warm milk, had on that same morning attempted to warm a cup of the same milk, which immediately curdled. I was raised on a farm. I know that stale milk curdles, especially if heat is applied to it. The supermarket gave me no satisfaction. it was clear that they did not care. I NEVER shopped there again.Thankfully the store is no longer in business.

So. No, no, no. It is not right to feed poor people (especially as the majority of poor people in Barbados are young children) milk or chicken or other highly perishable foods of uncertain provenance.

My information is that only about a quarter of the chicken wings, that came in illegally, was destroyed. Put another way, by the time the authorities moved in, only about a quarter of the chicken wings was left.

I am told that as Muslims the importers should not have dealt with the chicken wings unless they were killed in a certain way.

    >

  30. @ Caswell, Colonel Buggy and Simple Simon

The most incredible thing about this is the Certificates of Origin on (perishable) food can’t currently be tied to Central Bank Authorizations for foreign Currency!

So I Husain bin bil Laden (not related to Bil Lading) go to the bank for US $5000 for goods from country “x”

The true source of the goods is country “y” but i get them shipped to country “x” where they are re-packeged, repacked and re-invoiced and then shipped to Barbados from Country X.

You would figure that with all the illegal re-invoicing that so called honest companies like Cave Shepherd has been conducting for 40 years, that the ingrunt Central Bank & its counterpart Financial Services Authority would have, in all these years, been able to find the customary fraudulent lawbreakers, IF THEY WERE SO INCLINED!!

THe United States dont play with that shyte and if serious people wanted to stop this highway robbery by the big ups in BIM, by now a few bajans would be up in Sing Sing chanting on Big Bubba’s mike i.e. the mike of Big Bubba and not Mike, who Big Bubba is also serving)

Crudity has it place to galvanize the minds of people who are above the laws of Barbados to understand that Uncle Sam does not care who the ef you think you are in these banana republics, when you are in their domain, YOU GOING GET LOCKUP.

But first of all let us see if the local authorities are going to bring any action against the people who had the chicken wings in the first place.

I wonder if my lawyer friend going defend them IF the matter gets to court?

“Chief Justice Marston, in defense of my clients, I wish to respectfully say that they did not inport any chicken wings BUT I will go on to prove that the chickens, being capable of flight, imported themselves and flew to Barbados on their own volition”

Chief Justice Marston “Duly noted, case dismissed”

  31. @PUDRYR

BU has commented several times about the lack of action by the the government, regulatory bodies,NGOs with a vested interest over the years. It is no secret several of our High Street merchants procure goods offshore, forward to companies offshore owned by them, and prepare invoices to land those goods in Barbados. Connect the dots.

  32. Simple Simon,
Bad food can not only caUSE SEVERE ILLNESS IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.Gastro can be very debilitating, Salmonella, Shigella, and other bacteria are also very dangerous. Our entire tourism industry upon which we depend can be DESTROYED OVERNIGHT. PEOPLE FROM NORTH AMERICA are very conscious of their food products. They will not stand for these things.
ACTION HAS TO BE TAKEN. Give the PUBLIC COUNSEL SOME WORK. REPORT THESE THINGS TO HIM.
We never found out how much was awarded to the plaintiff in the “Chicken and Ram” issue, but it seems like now free advertisement is still occurring. Those were obviously resurrection chickens; they died, were resurrected,, and then killed again. I thought that was enough about chicken, now we have ‘

  37. There is another way to pass off some out- of -date goods ,without buyers even suspecting, or when they do, as I once did, given what could be termed an acceptable explanation.
Take of instance , I ventured into a shop in Bridgetown, in June, took up some item and notice an expiry date of 5-11-2016. (11 May) but when I questioned it ,I am told that the expiry date is really 5 November. The difference in markings between the British and the Americans.
With a bit of fiddling around an unscrupulous merchant may be able to keep his expired goods off the shelf, and then restock them when the other ambiguous date comes around.
    ie 4-12 (4th Dec) or 12-4, (12th April) ….. 3-10 ( 3rd October) or 10-3 (10th March)

  38. Why does Donville Inniss continue to blow hot air? This is a government which has taken lack of communication and transparency to a level hitherto unknown in Barbados. James Paul who blew the whistle on this matter sits in the same parliamentary group he belongs to. What is him problem asking for government avenues to be exhausted and not run to the social media by naming names etc. shut the hell up!

  39. Donville is a buffoon. Why Donville don’t give small black people in Barbados permits to import chicken so that the price of that much loved food could be reduced by 40% like he did so easily for Mr. Maloney and Rock Hard?

  40. If Simpsons Motors donates a car or equipment to the law enforcement agencies in Barbados, do not expect to see a speed cop afterwards reporting Sir Kiffin or Debbie for a traffic violation?Similarly if the Indian community donate money and equipment to the Ministry of Health, do not expect to see a Health Inspector walking into Continental foods and closing it down for violating the health act?
This “gotcha -in- ma- pocket” syndrome ,was ably demonstrated a few days ago, when an officer of the law courts shirked in his duty in serving a summons, and is too prevalent in Barbados.
These people do not give anything away without, expecting much more in return. Our governments should be careful in taking handouts from these so-called good samaritans, or begging them for sponsorship and financial support, as ministers often do.
He who insert coins in the jukebox, punches the tunes.
The symbol in the center of our national flag, the broken trident, is now more aptly interpreted ,by many, as a convenient Back Scratcher.

  41. @Caswell Franklyn June 16, 2016 at 12:01 AM “I am told that as Muslims the importers should not have dealt with the chicken wings unless they were killed in a certain way.”

Yup. If the chicken was not halal it means that Muslims are forbidden from consuming it.

Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal says that “foods not in a state of purity are also considered haraam. The criteria for non-pork items include their source, the cause of the animal’s death, and how it was processed.”

  42. @Alvin Cummins June 16, 2016 at 6:32 AM “Simple Simon, Bad food can not only caUSE SEVERE ILLNESS IT CAN CAUSE DEATH.Gastro can be very debilitating,”

I know. As I said i thought that the child was going to die. When a child younger than 5 years old loses 20% of already slight body weight, then the child is very seriously ill, and can die. That is why I never shopped there again. And I did report the matter to the health authorities. Unfortunately I did not follow up re the outcome.

  43. @Artax(erxes) June 16, 2016 at 6:42 AM “Perhaps Budg Buy unplugged the freezers as a means of reducing its electricity expense. As you know, operating costs have increased significantly.”

I understand that companies have to make a profit. I may be simple, but I ain’t no dummy.

However companies ought not seek to make a profit off the stomachs, health and potentially the lives of children younger than 5 years old.

    To do sois reprehensible.

The Ministry of Health MUST get tough with people and companies who try to pass food of uncertain provenance on to consumers, and we must be especially careful about perishable products such as chicken and milk which are typically consumed by young children.

  44. @David June 16, 2016 at 10:26 AM “Why does Donville Inniss … What is his problem asking for government avenues to be exhausted and not run to the social media”

How does sweet Donville plan to stop people from talking on social media? Somebody needs to tell Donville that the press has a role to play in a modern vibrant democratic society, social media has a role to play, government has a role to play, business people have a role to play. And that if ALL sectors of society play their part we will have a BETTER society.

    I want that.

    Donville presumable wants that too.

Or he would if he like me had spent 5 days clean shit and vomit from a very, very sick 4 year old.

He used to be Minister of Health correct?

He therefore MUST KNOW that contaminated food can cause kidney failure especially in the very young (that is younger than 5 years old), very old (that is older than 65) and people whose immune systems are compromised by illnessess such as HIV, or cancer and its associated treatment.

Kidney failure is NOT A SMALL thing.

Kidney failure and its treatment is very, very expensive, and all the cost will fall on the state because very, very few people can afford to pay for their own treatment out of pocket.

  45. If social media is helping the government and the business community [and Donville] on their toes then that is an excellent thing.

  46. THE PUBLIC MUST BE INFORMED ABOUT HEALTH RISKS.

Any uh wunna eva experience food poisoning ?

Selling food after you remove and replace labels should be a criminal offence.

    That is my layman’s opinion.

โ€œA senior Cabinet Minister signals the possibility of resigning over his Governmentโ€™s treatment of legitimate business investors.โ€

Is this Donville Inniss doing bajans a favor and get the hell out of the peopleโ€™s parliament.

Looks as though he is threatening Fruendel, nobody wants Dumbville as prime minister unless they are just like him.

His ministry is responsibe for consumer affairs and do not know that standards re food processing and distribution safety is being ignored.

Simple…somebidy needs to tell Donville to do his job and call in ministry of health officials for Bhana…or resign….no one needs him if he cannot do his job….bottomline.

It’s only social media can keep these criminals in check.

And why in hell is chicken being imported from England to Barbados…there are chicken growers across the Caribbean. ..that practice of importing poultry and meats from countries that always have regular outbreaks of foot and mouth diseaes, like England, listeriam avian flu etc……should be banned…ya dont know what nastiness these indians are buying, importing to Barbados and putting on the market for bajans to eat…they are greedy and would sell anything to blacks, because they know blacks buy anything..

There is so much that is wrong with this….I would not trust Inniss in this….something else is going on that is no benefit to the people,
