@Sargeant January 1, 2016 at 2:44 PM…re ” you can’t presume to know what has gone on in a relationship..” absolutely correct, thus my parsing of ‘accessory’. You have said it well that those ‘nobodies’ were up against a somebody but I believe you are shrewd and aware enough to know exactly how these things really fall out.
Let me put it this way … Many people knew that Rock Hudson was disposed to male-on-male bounding beyond the rah-rah of hunting or as a drinking bud. That was maintained quietly for business reasons surely. Similarly, many spouses know of the proclivities of their mates and glance the other way just the same.
I thus find it very hard to believe that this lady who was quoted as saying “I created him, I knew what I was getting and we’ll fix this” can be held free of blame. I recall one paper saying that Ms. Cosby knew he was a philanderer but believed the women ‘CONSENTED’ (my emphasis) to the drugs and sexual hijinks.
Now, surely you have followed that entertainment industry. Bill Cosby became a veritable CASH COW..he was a mini Oprah – before Oprah – in many regards. Do you allow that to go down the tubes because of these ‘nobodies’ as you noted…in that climate of ‘free-wheeling sex, drugs and quid-pro-quo favors’. Never happen.
In the minds of many senior-citizen mums sitting in their rocking chairs and chatting amiably of their youth Rock Hudson is still their favorite leading man from those early movie days. not so! His secrets came out before this ting called social media…
Cosby or Camille ain’t so lucky. We will definitely hold neither of them in good graces in the years ahead. But do they care…they are rich beyond imagination and realistically it seems very unlikely that Cosby will serve one day in jail…I thought using the cane was lovely…reinforces his old age and feeble manner.

Would be interesting to find out how many actresses lay on the “casting couch” before getting film contracts, big or otherwise. It was common knowledge that in the earlier days this was the accepted practise for stardom. In those days the issue of women’s right were not even debated. In addition, it would not have happened with Black actresses, or even Black actors because of the roles they were cast for. In the days of Woodstock, the Hippies, and fast moving Hollywood, drugs and are and open sex were the norm. Uppers and downers were the “staff” of life, followed by alcohol.Women in general were not as solicitous of their virtue. Success was important, and or being a groupie. How many of these women were groupies, seeking to make their fortunes on the shirt tails of famous (and rich) men, regardless of colour or talent (theirs)?

@ igrunt easy to attack and insinuate something that i have gotten used but has in now way persuade or dissuade my opinion. The Fact being that i reference the term Black family as to the importance and the positive impact the Cosby show gave to elevating the black family. Also if you choose to remember i also mention the positive impact derived on producing family shows which had nothing to do with Cosby race or color but the importance of the show being able to remove racial stigmas relating to blacks as being lazy and uneducated which elevated the black family and gave much needed relevance to the ordinary black person lives > I also counter that argument by detailing and bringing to focus that many of the allegations where being driven by undercurrents that wanted to have an agenda driven by way of immoral and far flung promiscuous material
Such was an agenda that Cosby wanted no part of and would have been the catalyst for his removal out of the public mind and banished to a life of obscurity
Again i must reiterate that your comments are typical of the many who cling to forty or fifty allegations told in living color by adults in a public forum and in the so many years those adults never seek legal recourse for those allegations the question is WHY now and not then ? Nothing has changed they were still as they stated raped by bill Cosby but some how they all at the same time have suddenly out of nowhere have the courage to speak out. How come ? go figure

A good life in my judgment constitutes an inner peace which fame and fortune cannot deliver to the practical man.
Alvin Cummuns, the cashing couch was replaced by the era of sexual misconduct in the work place, and it has been proven to be hard on the pockets of those in a position of influence and authority.
And PG is quite correct because I do believe also that a lot of African Americans do play into these frozen stereotypes that are intricately designed by white producers in black movies.

@AC, I have to agree with you in regards to your positive assessment of the Cosby show. I personally am no fan of “black” shows, especially comedies, as they often appeal to and exaggerate stereotypes of the black community. I am especially pertrubed by the constant portrayal of black women in the shows, ads and movies as crass, loud-mouthed with little to no formal education. Empire or Power, anyone? In this regard, the Cosby show was a breath of fresh air in that it showed a stable family with two professionals as heads of the household, a refined, well -poised and highly educated black lady in the form of the statuesque and elegant Phylicia Rashad. While the Huxtable family had its challenges, it was still a family with strong bonds and ties, sort of like a black Seventh Heaven lol. As someone who grew up in a similar type of black household, this was the kind of black family I could have related to and I wish more black shows portrayed this instead of relying on stereotypes for cheap comedy.

Why Cosby’s wife will be deposed is because she was at one time his manager and cannot claim ignorance of the accusations, it does not fall under spousal privilege. Laying on a casting couch is one thing but telling someone you got a headache or not feeling well and they give you something to ‘make you feel better ‘ which disables you, is a little more than sleazy, slipping drugs into someone’s drink to render them helpless is downright criminal.
For years these females tried to get Cosby exposed, he got a long rope, now he’s hanging as he should. If they catch Camille Cosby in a lie, of course poetic justice will see her doing time for him…..that is what happens to enablers.
It’s not much different to all the wrong criminal things politicians, lawyers etc do for years and people complain incessantly, but according to their yardfowls, as long as there is no evidence, those criminal acts and victimizing of people never happened, well, now there is evidence coming out of Cosby’s mouth, he admitted drugging the females, throw the book at him……the embarassment alone is enough to finish him off, hypocrite and fraud…..

@Dr GP, fair enough 5:19 PM post. I can’t disagree with any a word. But my take was still quite different. Being much younger that you and Cummings’ generation when I watched ‘Little House on the Prairie’ , ‘Waltons’ and all that fare I subsequently realized we were misguided.
Although that does represent much of America it does not represent all white America. So in my ways your comment that “I believe the white producers are just mocking blacks” can be applied from the other side psychologically. They mamyguyed us in portraying the best of what was not a monolithic wholesome society.
Thus as a young-man when the Cosby show started I accepted it as another very viable, even if not pervasive, representation of Black life in the US. I certainly enjoyed the show and all that it offered.
As an aside that show reinforced certain stereotypes despite its intention not too…they were no Signey Poiter skin tone Blacks really, for example. But that’s for another time –
@Alvin Cummins at 5:18 PM…I see that you and your name-sake are tagging on the side of dear Mr. Cosby. Please explain to the world what sex-for-favors has to do with the serial abuse documented. Would these ladies subject themselves to this to be depicted as couch-burners for what was a known practice in Hollywood…seriously.
Some of these ladies are well into their fifties…there is no new role to be had; no book-rights; no civil suit of money. It is all public embarrassment. For most of them they are trying to cleanse their minds and find solace as they close life’s book.
Surely YOU understand that concept!
We all know, accept and understand that the biggest stars had the biggest harems…par for course. What Bill Cosby did makes absolutely no practical sense whatever. The man was handsome, powerful and wealthy. He hang-out at the mansion of the owner of Playboy. To be blunt, the man could get any and all type of bunnies…at his beck and call.
Why then is he saying in a deposition that he used drugs to put women in the mood?
Why when asked if person X could accede to sexual acts after the drugs, why does he says he is not sure? Which stud needs to drug his fillies?
Sorry, I can’t be an apologist for this nonsense. I deeply appreciated the man and what he stood for…
But this is absolutely not copacetic and cannot be passed off as normal Hollywood behaviour.
@ the other AC, when you deign to read any of the various articles (try the one from the NYT) whch talks about the deposition Cosby gave 10 years ago, then I will deing to respond seriously to your remarks. Currently you should be embarrassed (if you have that emotion in your body) to be making some of your absurd remarks. They fly in the face of facts…
FACTS like “….While Mr. Cosby insisted the only drug he had given Ms. Constand was Benadryl, he was open about his access in the 1970s to quaaludes… He said he obtained seven prescriptions … from a doctor in Los Angeles, ostensibly for a sore back but in reality to give to women. He admitted to giving young women quaaludes at that time “the same as a person would say have a drink,” he said, but not without their knowledge.”
Did these woman hang around Cosby seeking to gain fame or whatever, surely.
But there is this really weird thing called consent…and if she says no then I believe the law calls it rape, or some such term. Regardless of how many months they have been playing touchy-touchy.
So this dude who represented himself as the world’s greatest Dad and also professed that he knew the cues when females were ready to rock..didn’t know the basic word NO.
Sounds about the level of reasoning I would readily accept from you…from him, NO!

So crass though these shows are they get exposure for the stars. The problem of course is that Black women really believe that is actually the way to behave and act in real life what is ‘supposed’ to be a caricature on screen.

@AC please desist from trying to make the facts fit your your personal beliefs. That’s called fraud or even staging a crime a scene.
—1: rape as you suggested is defined as sexual contact or penetration achieved: without consent,. There need be no violence. —2: You are right that “giving a pill or Quaalude does not indicate rape”. But I ask the question again..why does a stud need to drug ? Filly sees stud…stud neighs and does his woo ting…to the barn they go. Why does the Cos have to slip his anything?
—3. if your daughter came home and in tears and deep regret, and without any prompting from you told you that her mentor Bill Cosby had sex with her and she feels that he drugged her, how would you respond? If you then got on the phone with dear Bill and he told you that your daughter did spend the night but that it was not rape or anything because…because well she had an ‘orgasm’. Thus, he says she must have enjoyed it and consented.
I am sure you would put that down to some sort of ‘buyer’s remorse’ type of thing on your daughter’s side.
—4 Very correct that “The now reopened case was thrown out previously …”. It is also correct that this lady sued Cosby then afterward that criminal matter was disallowed and in his deposition he said that he drugged her — and others prior.
So respect her for at least this one lady tried her damnedest to get ‘her’ rapist before the courts or outed to protect others.
All the others are scallywags who just happened to meet the guy who relied on Quaaludes to get his groove on. Maybe they expected that he would not seek sex from them and at 18, 19, 20 years of age they would get a hand-up without a hand-out…guess they were so wrong, den.
The Cos was just being a different type of guy. What a gentleman and scholar he was!
So AC I conclude that you are definitely on to something with your ‘the shame lies within the heart and soul of those women”. Very deep! Steeuupse!
Incidentally, one can only imagine that if 50+ are claiming Quaalude sex, there must be at least 50+ more who truly consented to the brother! What do you think?

A viable health report don’t you believe would have been in their interest and representation to formulating a proof of their stories

@Vincent, I completely agree that some of these accusers are along for the ride and are likely being very economical with the truth. But I also believe there can be little doubt that Bill Cosby got some thrill or other joy from playing this ‘drugging game’ with various women and thus some of the accusers were assaulted.
Is he guilty of 50+ cases of rape? Surely not. Did he have sex with some of these women when they were not physically able to accede to his efforts? It certainly seems so…and therein lies a problem.
Why should I or anyone care? Well because the brother established a purposeful narrative on Black success and on forging a positive image. He has shredded that with these public revelations of his potentially criminal and callous private life.
There are many stories of Black and White actors (Warren Beatty, supposedly > 5,000), entertainers, athletes (Magic Johnson > 1,000) or others who have taken hundreds of starlets, actresses, other athletes etc to bed. We do not bat an eye-lid.
But to be called out as a serial sexual predator who has taken the same hundreds to bed under drugged pretense gives pause
This entire matter is very disappointing really.

EXCLUSIVE: Alimony payments denied for Brooklyn man who abused, raped wife
BY DAREH GREGORIAN NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Friday, January 1, 2016, 4:00 AM A A A
TT was arrested for raping and assaulting his wife in 2010, and she filed for divorce from him after he was convicted.
A Brooklyn man who’s serving a 40-year prison sentence for raping his abused wife has lost his galling bid to get alimony payments from her.
The callous creep, who’s being identified in court papers by his initials TT to protect his wife’s identity, claimed he supported his wife, identified as AT, when she went to school with “hustled cigarettes” and by collecting public assistance.
In a decision made public Wednesday, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Sunshine found TT hadn’t even done that much — but that he had beat up his wife so many times during their marriage that she wound up losing her job because of her excessive absences.
The judge also found TT’s claims he helped his wife with her schooling to be ridiculous because he was locked up on drug and gun charges at the time.
SALUTE THE COURAGE OF COSBY’S ACCUSERS: A RAPE VICTIM WHO WAS DISBELIEVED REMEMBERS HER OWN STRUGGLE
“If he was around, I would not have been able to finish college,” the 52-year-old woman testified during their divorce trial in March.
The couple tied the knot in 2002, and TT “engaged in extreme acts of physical and sexual violence” against his wife throughout the marriage, the judge found. He was arrested twice for attacking her, but AT testified that he’d brutalized her “a lot of times.”
Asked how many times she’d been assaulted in all, she testified she “can’t count, it’s been so many.”
TT was arrested for raping and assaulting his wife in 2010, and she filed for divorce from him after he was convicted.
He “was a hard person to get rid of. He was a manipulator,” she testified.
He then counter-sued her for divorce on the grounds she was “cruel and inhuman” for “making these false allegations that I raped her.”
Acting as his own lawyer, TT maintained he was entitled a portion of her $35,000 a year city salary, half of her furniture and her pension.
“This woman is being vindictive because she assumed that I was cheating on her. And the only way she could get back at me is by trumping up the charges,” the 42-year-old claimed at the trial — even complaining that she’d caused his benefits to be reduced by having a job.
Sunshine said TT’s conduct during the marriage and brazen attempt to force his wife to recount the “devastating, demoralizing and degrading acts” he’d committed against her were despicable, and that he shouldn’t get anything.
He found TT’s claims that he’d helped his wife financially during the marriage to be unbelievable, and said the wife has what little she has in spite of TT, not because of him.
“To award any portion of plaintiff’s retirement account to defendant, under the facts and circumstances here, would be contrary to the interest of justice,” the judge wrote.
He praised AT for her strength in standing up to the bully who’d tormented her for so long.
“The plaintiff, despite all she endured, compounded by the defendant’s steadfast attempt to interfere in her desire to move on, has displayed both courage and perseverance beyond what any human being should have to endure,” Sunshine wrote
That is what rape victims face from their abusers and the heartless criminals who would enable their behaviors…..this female in the above article was very fortunate. Cosby was nothing but a disgusting bully with a penchant for doing whatever it took to get what he wanted, now he is getting what he deserves.

listen bro do not be fooled by the mooring of the tattle tales this movie was scripted and designed with an intent to push a Hollywood legend aside and put in place an agenda laced with fast tracked immorality and promiscuity most of which is being shown in household today
Simply put Mr Cosby was a billionaire standing in the way and had to be shoved off and banished from the minds of american society as his good guy image and his attempt to focus on family oriented program was out of sync with what the movers and shakers of the Hollywood elite wanted to present to the viewing public
All of what is taking place did not happen because of fifty woman but forceful undercurrents and ties who found the opportunity and perfect timing to unleashed a barrage of raped charges against MR. Cosby for their own gain sake”

That might be small minded of me, but I think we invest too much time in looking for and in creating heroes and when they stumbled or fall then we run around making up excuses and conspiracy theories. We are still trying to redeem and pull Tiger under our black tent when he in his own words “is not black”.
Bill Cosby had a great show and often delivered some hard hitting truths to the black community. I can only watch this tragedy play out and hope that he gets what he deserves (if innocent or guilty). I will wait and see.
Conspiracy theories and lame excuses like “we don’t have planes, so it is not us who bring drugs into the community” are not helpful. If I can channel “the good Bill Cosby” – Nobody is pushing it down your throat or in your veins. Stop making excuses.
Don’t pick your heroes from a screen or a stage. Surely there must be local lawyers, politicians, policemen, or teachers that you admire :-). Seriously, there are some good men who are worthy of your respect and admiration.
I will not build up nor will I pull down. Gonna be the best me that I can be.

“I wish that the Democrats had succeeded in their efforts re Clarence Thomas, Reagan plucked this man from relative obscurity to fill the shoes of Thurgood Marshall a man whose shoelaces he wasn’t fit to tie. I know the Supreme Court is now a political court but Thomas’s role is to echo Justice Scalia’s thoughts, the man frustrates me to no end, have you read any of his opinions?
Here is food for thought: appoint the least qualified black to a position and wait until he screws up, then say “well we appointed a black and look what happened”. Justice Thomas fits that bill.”
democrats cm7y ass I do not know why you people suck up to the democratic party which is the -party of slavery, jim crow laws, the George Wallases and such like. The same problems that black people are having in i9nner cities up to this day and which the democrats always promise to fix or lay blame at the foot of the republicans have been in existence all the years Until Newt Gingrich assumed the speakership in 1994 the democrats were in charge; but black people seem to like t0o hear the white man say I loke you and I doing this for you even if nothing is done. Had not for the republican lobby in Cogress the civil rights legislation attributed to Lyndon Johnson would not have passed since the majority of the Democrats voted against it. Here at home in the Caribbean, it is the policies of the Republican which helps to drive our economies and not the Democrats whose policies are inimical to our interests. whenever the Republicans nominate a black person for high office; he is an Uncle Tom and pilloried by the black community and people like you who ought to be able to see the bigger picture; when the Democrats nominate a black person; the Democrats love black people. Bunch of jokers you all are.

Despite the rant you haven’t written anything in defense of Justice Thomas, however I regret that you find it convenient to live in the past while ignoring current reality. The Republicans of today have usurped the positions formerly held by Democrats, their electoral policy is based on dog whistle politics and coded language which allow some base instinct to come to the fore hence the appeal of a Donald Trump.
Let’s take blacks out of the equation, why do large percentages of Latinos support the Democrats? Why do large percentages of Asian Americans (including Japanese Americans who are more likely to be found in a higher economic spectrum) support the Democrats? They can in your words “see the bigger picture”, which is all you need to know why a Piyush Jindal is now Bobby Jindal and Barack Obama is still Barack Obama.

@TheGazer January 2, 2016 at 11:34 AM re:”Don’t pick your heroes from a screen or a stage. Surely there must be local lawyers, politicians, policemen, or teachers that you admire…” Very good point (even facetiously made).
Fact is that ideally every child should be able to start that hero worship at home with a recognition of the ‘heroic’ efforts mum or dad makes to balance the vagaries of life and work, be involved in the community and do all the interesting things to raise the child. Ideally, but of course that is not always the case.
Alternatively the best hero is the one right there in the community (village, school, Sunday school, or youth group) who can have a real and hands-on impact on a child’s life.
@Sargeant January 2, 2016 at 3:56 PM, interesting comment re “…a Piyush Jindal is now Bobby Jindal and Barack Obama is still Barack Obama.” That Barack Hussein moniker nearly sunk Obama…and definitely it still causes him much angst with some…so look sharp he might have changed his name too! Lol.
I recall some years back someone said that if you want your child to take part in the corporate job dance fairly then one should absolutely refrain from christening them with the ‘LaShondas”, “Demarcus” and so on…unless you also have a more standard name.
Because, despite all the talk of racial equanimity those names tend to jump off the resumee just as a ‘Bubba’ or a ‘JohnDavid’ would from the other side. Frankly ‘Piyush’ has the same issue…’Bobby’ suggests more assimilation.
An assimilation that says, I am in Rome and ‘when in Rome I do as the Romans do’. Gets you places more often than not!

When the Democrats did all that, yes indeed Republicans were the party of Black progress. But your boulder is too heavy to roll-back. When tings shifted didn’t all the rabid racists like Senator Strom Thurmond join the Republican party?
Isn’t it the Republican party which is now striking down hard-won voter registration and voting rights laws all across the Southern US states; an issue which goes to the heart and core of Black representation?
Sorry guy but you need to revise and reorg your statement to “the democratic party which WAS the -party of slavery, jim crow laws, the George Wallases …”
Who knows, things make change again but for now you will not get that boulder – of Republican affinity towards Blacks in general- over that hill…nearly impossible.

Not all. Fools that you are. The gran wizard of the Ku Klux Klan Senator Robert Byrd never left. I might be living in the past but the civil rights act is surely the present and has been constantly trumpeted as the best thing to have happened in the lives of the Afro-american since slice bread. And what makes Thurgood Marshall this great American jurist? what did he do other than join the campaign to de-segregate the system such as getting blacks admitted to white schools?. This fallacy that the Democrats are for white people and the Republicans are devils like the fallacy here that the DEMs are for the black and poor small man and the BLP for the whites and the black middle class should be debunked for the mythical garbage that it is.

Stop trying to clutch at echoes of the past, the Party of Lincoln has evolved into the Party of Thurmond and Helms. I won’t dignify your comments about Thurgood Marshall with a response but the Republicans helped with the passing of Civil Rights legislation and have now spent the next 50 years trying to dismantle its key provisions. Their latest salvo resulted in the invalidation of a key section of the Act in 2013, look for more onerous voter identification laws and gerrymandering will be the order of the day, Nixon’s Southern strategy is so yesterday.

No….you have the problem Alvin, you never see the victims, he is BLACK, so the victims, black, white, hispanic, asian and every diverse spectrum in berween are are lying, did I meantion there are also famous females, actors and business women who were victimized by Cosby….50 plus women cannot be lying, remember, if you are not too rabid, he is only being charged with one, the former ball player, a lesbian, who said he drugged her and the prosecutor has evidence.
I am glad it is being dragged out, that will give the other 150 that may exist, time to come forward. I am not surprised by your reaction, yardfowls are only programmed to back losers and am not talking about winning an election by vote buying only

Here is a list of diverse females, who have no reason to lie on or about Cosby, you enablers are poison on the earth. I remember the arrogant so and so refusing to take a DNA test because he did not want to be identified as the father of one of his victim’s child, he however, paid out lots of money secretly. He knew exactly what he did that resulted in the pregnancy.

@ Well Well,
At first it was about 25 women. It has now grown to fifty. How many more would it take before somebody says “enough”. You say that fifty women can’t be lying. Suppose it was two hundred, would you still say they were all speaking the truth? I keep telling you to be a realist. In a real world there are limits. Remember there are limits in the real world. These are ACCUSATIONS, nothing has yet been proven. Even in the one case where there was a trial, the judge dismissed the case for lack of evidence. Accusations are not proof of guilt.

Alvin….you don’t even realize that you have been left behind in the Cosby case…why do you back losers, is it a self-esteem problem, the world is moving right along and make sure victims see their victimizers punished for their crimes, regardless of what you, as an enabler, wants…lol.
