Leader of the BLP Mia Mottley (l) Former Leader of the BLP Owen Arthur (r)

“The challenge is, as represented in the Peter Wickham poll, that Ms Mottley . . . faces a problem of being accepted by the society at large and faces a problem of being accepted by a cross-section of the BLP,” Arthur told the media at his UWI, Cave Hill office.

“The BLP has a challenge and we have a situation where there’s not a contest […]for leadership within the party, but there is a problem in the wider Barbados society, where there is unacceptance and unacceptability of the present leader of the party,” he said, “but she has to make herself likeable, she has to be respected because people want to believe that their leaders are full of integrity . . . and she has to consider the use of power; not be feared negatively, but be understood as a person who can use power effectively.”

Extracts from 2009 Interview with Owen Arthur

Owen Arthur warned Barbados and the Barbados Labour Party about everything that is taking place now in the corridors of the Barbados Labour Party. In an interview in 2009, he spoke honestly and without malice while giving an assessment of the leadership of his “former protégée”. He advised “the challenge is to have a leader who enjoys wide acceptance and acceptability in the wider society and wide acceptance in the parliamentary party.”

Here lies the fault line, which is occurring on the eve of the party’s next annual conference. The race is on to have the Mia matter executed ahead of the Party’s conference. It is evident the “former protégée’s”arch rival and an unrepentant political acolyte of Arthur in the person of Jerome stands to benefit from this imbroglio. He stands to benefit immensely after standing down from an obvious third defeat at the hands of John Boyce.

The spin doctors in the BLP are busy at work trying to give the public the impression that the issue in Christ Church West is about Dr Maria Agard. We on this side are quite aware at the core issue is leadership. This re-occurring decimal in the thread of Opposition politics continues to define for this country what is to come if ever the BLP is elected to office.

Less we forget that what happened in Ch. Ch. West happened in the St James North and St George South candidate selections. The white elephant in the room is the apparent irregularities in the branch voters’ list or for some Mia’s list . The last recorded issues have to do the accusations of monies spent in St Joseph by the Female Club to ensure that Dale was a sure loser. Of course, no one is talking about Arthur’s concern re governance of the BLP’s edifice after he took over from his former protégée” on the last occasion. The issues there are the subject of a Barker Report.

There is clear and present danger in the Opposition way of managing the affairs of their party. What say you about the affairs of the country? It is clear that there is a danger in opposing the leadership of the Messiah.

This new brand leadership which is authored by the non male members ’club of the BLP begs the question, in whose interest is the process gaining momentum? The face of the Barbados Labour Party has changed so much since Arthur exited that is hardly recognizable beyond the Mia’s faction. She has done well to stamp her authority NOT leadership.

In a letter penned to Dear Joan and signed by Mia Amor Mottley Q.C., M.P on the 19th September 2011. The author of the letter declares to Joan

“ You may well ask whether internal victory at all costs for certain interests is worth jeopardizing the image and appeal of our great Party in the eyes of the wider electorate at this volatile and uncertain juncture of our Nation’s history and within sight of a General Election.”…

We must quell all other attempts to secure the domination by a few to the detriment of the majority. For we must ask ourselves, after the women and young people who will be next in the line of attack? Why is one-man one vote so threatening to the leadership in a modern democratic Party?”

Understand what would happen if these machinations take place in national elections by those who appears to manipulate constituencies branch elections.

The views of Arthur and the views of Mia as contrasted here speak to a leadership of contradiction. The current leadership is on a journey to redefine politics by making it a blood sport where lives and reputation are placed in public space. Barbados must listen to the honest words of Owen Arthur “…there is unacceptance and unacceptability of the present leader of the party,” he said

    You should re-write:

“And listen, Donna, common sense and the ability to reason rationally have never been any of my assets, they are liabilities.”

Sea egg yuh know I think we might just get along well. I like “courting…LOL just a little play on words,

    Sea egg’s reply (paraphrased)

Get yuh face outta de DEMs backside yuh does talk too much shiite!

    Burn!

  3. Reject!

  4. Bush Tea,

He may have dipped his mouth in honey but the essence of our submissions was the same. I am a plain speaker. No dressing for me.

  5. Sea Egg,

I can understand how your sweet mouth wooed AC but I am at a loss as to how it managed to silence Dompey? What kind of magic are you using?

  6. “”Getting along”does not mean being a friend idiot. Friendship takes more than “getting along”
Unlike you Donna my needto be like is an option which I regard as personnel . Not everyone can pass the test

  7. That should be “personal” MORON. Is there ANYTHING you are good at besides DLP pooch licking and the consequent shiite talk?

  8. Artexeres your intelligent mouthings is good reason why your party lost the last election.

  9. Donna
I think that Artax is responsible for silencing Dompey. I try very hard not to engage him. To do so requires patience which I have a short supply of, I must confess. To read through all the trite coming from him is very taxing mentally. I salute people like you and all the others who respond.

  10. Artax
I have nothing to do with the sea egg season. I do not always have time to read BU every day but recently I”ve been thinking that the good and effective posters allow themselves to be sidetracked by piffle coming from elementary school children.
Too often good issues are lost because you go off on a tangent in response to nonsense. I believe that if I don’t respond to rantings of the said individual they would not be given any headwind.
As I said to the ACs it’s about issues and solutions. But you may very well be right. They are so close to the MPs for them to see otherwise.
Someone should offer them (ACs) water as oppose to the constant pouring of kool-aid.

  11. Artax
I took the day off so I had time to be on BU between going to the beach and doing other stuff. A break is necessary at times. Btw, the seaweed seem to be going away. The beach is still smelly though. I didn’t realize that I’m that active on BU during sea egg month.
I’m a vegetarian so such “delicacy” won’t concern me.

  12. ac invite all members or non member of both members to read the auditor general report of 2006 when the blp was in power for more than twelve years this report is jaw dropping and makes for interesting reading
Most note worthy the country was in the height of the best economic and financial gains yet the waste and inefficiencies was enough to make a person head spin.
    Unbelievable but true,

  13. oh i forget to mention the lost or stolen millions and records which kept the financial statements of govt agencies simply disappeared , Yes under the Blp but the intelligtent crowd would want to apply their own form of record keeping to put back the old brigade in place , What a bunch of Idiots,

  14. Sea Egg

It is obvious that you have a political narrative to defend, so it doesn’t take a Quantum Physicist analogous to that of an Einstein to discover that anything which excoriates your particular narrative would be regarded as distraction.

So in essence, it doesn’t take a Nuclear Physicist to figure this one out; just someone with the intellectual capacity of a three year old child.

And it is funny how people of your liken have a growing propensity to anathematized those persons who do not think as you do, and are benumbed at the thought of incurring such anathemas themselves.

  15. here is a friendly reminder taken from the auditor general reports to the BLP foot soldiers outlining the state of affairs under the blp reign which helped to bring barbados to its present state of gloom and doom and everyone having to pay a heavy price,

There were several occasions where items were purchased yet no evidence was seen to corroborate delivery and subsequent receipt of the said items. No delivery notes were seen. The corresponding LPO‟s were not signed to indicate receipt and the inventory records did not contain relevant entries. There was therefore no way of ascertaining whether the items were ever received by the Division. The cost of these items exceeded $100,000.00

yes foot soldiers go ahead and read how the fatted calf was sliced and diced into ittisy bittsy pieces under the reign of the BLP
hey guys do not forget to take off your blinkers

  16. In my Book any one who comes on BU and defends the BLP and then “pretends they are a- political in my book is regarded as a yardfowl ! footsoldier or both that b includes the notorious atexeres well know for his mouthings in defense of Mia Mottley,

Oh donna whether it be Personnel ! or Personal. You Got it! suffice it to say you knew i was talking to you idiot .

  17. AC
Your reference to the report is reflective of Civil Servants. Why did Stuart stop the PAC from meeting.Recall the Leader of the Opposition had a PS Bascombe sweating under examination of his handling of the taxpayers’ monies and your clueless PM put a stop to the fire lit under his behind by the Chairperson of the PAC, Go bag your head ac and go learn to spell and teach Denis Kellman how to respond to letters when using official stationery.Poor rakey dems….wild boys…an apt assessment.

  18. ha HA Sore losers my spelling if it bothers u do not read the postings, AS.
the Fact remains that All you BLP clowns get here on BU and try to pull the wool over everybody eyes but when wunna a,ss becomes exposed wunna cuss people black and white a bunch of intellectual jerks

dic head here is another excerpt from the report .

The Audit Office has observed that in the 2006/2007 financial year a total of $2.6 million was paid to a contractor without valuation certificates from the Ministry‟s Quantity Surveyors. Proper internal control practice was not followed as the payments would have been based solely on invoices submitted by the contractor.

negro it is all about good goverance isn/t that what you and all the blp footsoldiers been preaching for the last six years or can it be that the rule does not apply to the past govt,
when your stinking a,sses been exposed you all fly into fits and frenzy like swarming bees,
Btw this is a blog not a frigging university, cah uh backside along JAs and next time you become judgemental check yuh friggin self in the mirror.

  19. The Auditor general analysis on monies paid to contractors without proper procedures followed was this

The payment of contractors well in advance of work being carried out is contrary to Rule 19 (1) of the Financial Rules which stipulates that payment should not be in advance to meet impending payments. Of particular concern with these transactions is that millions of dollars of Government funds can be paid without the work being certified by the Ministry‟s Quantity Surveyors . Such a situation places Government funds under unnecessary risk and requires strong action by the Ministry on those responsible in order to prevent a recurrence.

BLP yardfowls and acquaintances got the mitigated gall and stinking nerve to finger point with a moral tenacity, isn/t the same shite wunna preach about is what was accepted by the likes of gabriel and those who voted for the blp govt to hold the reign of power for fourteen years and yet the calls for another repeat sounds loudly here on BU by a bunch of self serving hypocrites .
Yes at present the public is paying dearly for all the waste and inefficiencies which was breed and hatched under the BLP.

  20. That idiot AC at it embarrassing the DLP again……?

Only a johnny JA would come here talking shiite about an Auditor General’s report from 2008 …when THEY have been in office for SEVEN YEARS since and not a fella has been charged….
Not a forensic audit has been commissioned…
Not a shiite has changed….. The SAME Auditor General now complaining that they refuse to give him adequate staff…

Bajans VOTED OUT the BLP for that shiite…

Since then, wunna recruited Darcey B, and start out thieving BIG with CLICO, CAHILL, Molasses tanks, Pier Head schemes, and shiite taxes…

You could really shut your stupid mouth …. or at least take off the tight panties and let the shiite get out the right way… Jackass…

  21. DR Brass Bowl go change uh depends nobody talking to you anyway, if you can;t stand the heat stay out the kitchen ole man btw how is your 10 point plan for an efficient govt coming along. any recruits, LO

Professor Brass bowl here is something else you can place your snarly chops on.

During the period April 2005 to March 2006 During the period April 2005 to March 2006payroll deductions totaling $124,622.84 in respect of overdrawn salaries were made from the salaries of one hundred and forty three policemen and civilian staff. The explanation given for the high incidence of overdrawn salaries was that authorizations for payroll changes are not presented to the Accounts Section in a timely manner by the Personnel Section.

  22. Thine hignorance knows no bounds.

David for surely your HYPOCRISY HAS NO BOUNDS

  24. @ David
So you mean if a fellow come along and just type ‘potters and skinners’ on BU you will let it pass? SURELY there is a minimum requirement for posters to meet…. 🙁

This j(AC)kass has not risen above any such minimum standard since the Alexandra School issue…

    Steupssss
Bushie votes that we ban her for her own safety…
That lotta shiite gotta have some long term effects on her health…
Lord knows that the idiot’s mental health is already shot.

Why not let us try at least one blog minus AC and see….?

  25. It doesn;t matter when these infractions took place the point should be made clear that the govt of the day was elected for proper governance not only did they failed miserably in their fourteen year reign to administer a governance that would maintain stability for the country but also failed morally
The record shows a dark side which can not be glossed over and should not be forgotten or dismissed but that ever so often all should be reminded that those who forget the past would be doomed to repeat.

  26. Oh Bush Shite do you not have any shame exposing yourself as a tin horned Dictator

  27. @Bush Tea

What is amazing is that BU’s biggest detractors are logged on day and night.

Here is the gist of ac’s argument, it happened under the BLP therefore others should not be critical of the DLP government today. Isn’t the essence of a democratic system government the opportunity to show dissent? The more things change the more they remain the same.

  29. David you are putting words to the effect that you are misrepresenting ac/s intention. it is asinine and borderline lunacy to suggest that a” wrong” should be an acceptable norm given that such has been done before, the fact is that what i submitted is of public record , as both parties (again) embarked on a next general election both records should be scrutinized
What i have done is nothing new in the world of politics as parties and individuals exposed and scrutinized each other failures past and present however strange or awkward it might appear (to be) here on BU as i have done
A checklist of a detail record of any individual or organization be political or otherwise is important and serves as guides in helping to make sensible decision

“So you mean if a fellow come along and just type ‘potters and skinners’ on BU you will let it pass? SURELY there is a minimum requirement for posters to meet….”

    Bush Tea,
To be fair, AC is making a good point and she is on topic. Remember that the article is arguing that “Mia…..Just not ready”.

The current government is being “washed in licks” and deservedly so.

However, we are aware that there are persons now coming before us trying to convince us that the current government is committing wrongs against the people of Barbados, and that they are so innocent, honourable, and virtuous, that we must naturally select them to right these wrongs. These persons must be scrutinized, because we as a country and as a people, have been hurt, over, and over, and over again by such a simple deceitful trick. To all of us, this trick has become a sickening, old, worn-out recording.

If there is one piece of advice that our parents and grand-parents rammed into our heads from the time we were babies crawling on the floor, it is this: “Never follow multitude to do evil”.

AC is making reference to some of the governmental malfeasance, infelicities, and atrocities outlined in the Auditor-General’s reports for the period 1994 – 2008. Did Mia ever separate, distinguish, or distance herself from her political comrades and wrongdoers by standing up and insisting that the blight and rot on good governance in Barbados MUST stop? Did she ever threaten to resign from the government if the wastage and misappropriation of taxpayers’ monies continued? Did she ever raise a finger, or keep any noise in Parliament about the shameful financial incidents that were being exposed by the Auditor-General’s reports from 1994-2008?

Unlike Abraham pleading with the Lord not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if ten righteous persons could be found, I am pleading with the people of Barbados to give Mia a pass if only ONE example of her standing up and putting her political career on the line in defence of good governance in Barbados and the judicious use of Barbadian taxpayers’ money can be found during the period 1994-2008.

If one example cannot be found or produced, then, like the Queen of Hearts in “Alice in Wonderland”, I say: “Off with her head!”

  32. @Walter

In MIa’s defense she tried to activate the PAC only to see the government side frustrate the process.

  33. AC spoilt her good point by implying that though Mia is not ready, Freundel is.

  34. David
You will recall that OSA changed the rules of the PAC to accommodate David Thompson when he made excuse after excuse for not activating the PAC.OSA virtually begged Thompson to use the device to scrutinize his administration and Thompson was asleep on the job.History has informed us why he faltered and failed to perform his parliamentary role as head of the PAC.He is now known as one of the biggest crooks ever to enter parliament and stories abound of the millions he left in his will,a public document which nobody can see.Ask the leper. One day it will all come out when the Commission of Enquiry is finally established under to look into the Clico and Baico mess.Dont worry,it coming and even Stuart got to appear before David and Goliath.

    David,
It’s a good thing you are not Mia’s lawyer.
Ironically enough, Mia is a lawyer. If she was trying to “lock up” herself, she would ask you the following question:
Given the financial improprieties that took place in government between 1994-2008, when did Mia Mottley “activate” the PAC to stop them?

  36. @Walter

Surely you recognize that human being we experience Damascene moments?

  37. David,

  40. But if all of what happen under the blp was not real it would be so funny enough to make the key stone cops look legitimate. Funny enough those commenting with an attitude for calls to ban ac exposes the hypocrisy that binds and regulate their mental state of mind.
Those who indulge in journalistic practices must accept “fair and balance”as the moral and ethical equivalence in journalism and should proceed to do so as their actions define their truthfulnes to separate and cleanse

I remind you again that you misread the time of your exam for Statistics whichin you tek a 9 for a 3!You misreading again.Ef Mia was in government in ’94 to ’08,how she can be responsible for calling a PAC hearing. That was Thompson’s responsibility again and briefly for Mascoll, the hardwood man.

  42. @ Walter
You have a point, …but it is not sharp.
Bajans kicked hell during the last term of the BLP government about the lotta shiite in greenland, Dodds, VECO, 3S, The Coast Guard Station, the Oil terminal, the Dover beach facilities …a whole lotta shiite.

AND WE VOTED THEIR TAILS OUT AND ELECTED THE DLP TO SORT THE MESS…

You could believe that not an investigation….
    Not a man get charged…
    Not an inquiry…
    NOT A SHIITE…

…then we hear that Thompson thieving in $ 3.33 million blocks; Froon got non-leper friends who cannot be touched; and every other day another billion-dollar government project (with million dollar kick-backs) starting ….. and then stalling after the consultations and finders fees are paid from the treasury….

Bushie don’t want to hear no shiite from AC about ‘BLP stealing’…. that is OLD news..
Shiite man – check back on BU and see that Bushie and others were preaching that ‘anti-gospel’ (bad news) on every damn post back then….

What the a$$ can be worse than the elected SHERIFF not only pardoning the outlaws they were elected to lock-up, but hiring the chief mastermind and starting an even bigger crime spree…?
…and now seeking to justify their shiite by referring us back to the ‘bad old’ outlaws that they were hired to deal with in the first place…..?

    FIRE BUN DEM!!

    Gabriel,
The first exam I took in a course labelled “Statistics” was at the University of Nebraska. Were you there? I took that exam, like all of the exams I have taken in my life, in a timely manner.
Why do you persist in trying to tell lies on me? Do I have something that you want? Or that you didn’t get?

    I have not misread anything.
Let me repeat my exact words:
“Given the financial improprieties that took place in government between 1994-2008, when did Mia Mottley “activate” the PAC to stop them?”

Can’t you, oh sharp one, who never misread the time of your exam (and hopefully never misread any exam question) take a second and read something into the quotes that I have used in “activate”?

The point I was making to David is that PAC or no PAC, Barbadian taxpayers’ monies have been abused (and continue to be misappropriated) by both administrations. Conclusively, the PAC, as an instrument intended to prevent or minimize wastage of public funds, has been highly ineffective. Do you honestly think that if Mia had “re-activated” the PAC, the “Four Seasons wastage” would have been prevented? Do you think, if perchance, as has been alleged here on BU, that she received taxpayers’ money for services rendered in the Four Seasons fiasco, she would give it back? In everything, politicians are playing games with the lives of Barbadians.

I am going to treat this minor point as “bait” and award you full marks (5 points) for your “brilliant” response to my comment.

For 95 points, please answer the following 3 questions (the major thrust of my comment) with a simple yes, or no answer for each:

Did Mia ever separate, distinguish, or distance herself from her political comrades and wrongdoers by standing up and insisting that the blight and rot on good governance in Barbados MUST stop?

Did she ever threaten to resign from the government if the wastage and misappropriation of taxpayers’ monies continued?

Did she ever raise a finger, or keep any noise in Parliament about the shameful financial incidents that were being exposed by the Auditor-General’s reports from 1994-2008?

By the way, you have some nerve!

I have watched you here on BU repeatedly singing Owen Arthur’s praises. BU published a $75,000 cheque from CLICO issued to Owen Arthur personally, and as Prime Minister of Barbados he signed the cheque and received the money, knowing full well that he never ever provided any services or invoices to CLICO. In the process, he eternally put himself on a legal hook.

Why don’t you raise your game and comment on these things?

    Hypocrite!

  45. Mia is on record as being a front runner in the coming next election. Here voiced has ushered a call for change based on moral convictions tied to Cahill!Clico and other political moorings which she still is yet to explained
unfortunately for Mia she is tied to a political past that will haunt and disturb many in her climb for PM
Mia started the moral ball rolling like the direction in which it was heading with an anticipation that most might have forgotten or forgiven any roles of corruption which she might have participated in during her party years of governance

    Bushie,
I have a point that “is not sharp”, and you failed to recognize the point that you are making.

My point, in summary, is that Barbadians believe that we are being governed by ‘bad new’ outlaws and so we must scrutinize any ‘bad old’ outlaws (your words, not mine) who are seeking to replace them. You haven’t written anything to suggest that you have a serious disagreement with that.

Have we become a nation condemned to suffer under the hands of ‘recycled’ outlaws?

As my wife asked: “If all good things must come to an end, why can’t bad things come to an end too?”

  47. But the blp brigade would counter argue that Owen malfeasance has nothing to do with Mia yet argue that David Thompson malfeasance ( words to that effect)are representative of the Dlp.

    Hants,
I suspect that you scrolled past the comments AC made at 6:05 pm on October 2, 2015. There, she gave a link to the Auditor-General’s 2006 report.

For good measure, here is one of the excerpts she quoted from the report:

“The Audit Office has observed that in the 2006/2007 financial year a total of $2.6 million was paid to a contractor without valuation certificates from the Ministry‟s Quantity Surveyors. Proper internal control practice was not followed as the payments would have been based solely on invoices submitted by the contractor.”

Implicitly, you seem to accept that improprieties took place between 1994-2003.

    Hope this helps.
