Jack Warner will be recorded as one of the most enigmatic politicians of our time. His popularity as a politician in Trinidad belies the underhand dealings he has been associated with through the years in his capacity as Vice President of FIFA and Czar of the football operations in Trinidad.

The David Simmons report logged on BU blog World Cup 2014: Mohamed Bin Hammam, Jack Warner and Corruption @FIFA exposed Warner for who he is,  corrupt to the very core. BU unsuccessfully requested from Warner’s staff a copy of the Affidavit he (Warner)

threatened to have filed against Simmons. People like Warner perpetuate the perception that politicians – especially when Black – are thieves and must not be trusted.

BU joins with millions around the world in the hope Swiss authorities will be able to make the charges stick.

  1. David! David!

This is good, even great, but we have some banks, big banks, which committed the largest crimes known to man, LIBOR fixing etc, and up to date only a single individual has been given a slap on the ‘finger’.

Those crimes affect far more people, has the world in a perceived depression. Now we known that FIFA is a global dictatorship committing crimes as a result of its very nature. We see the Swiss have also started a judicial process into the award of 2018 and 2022 games.

We are afraid these arrests or warrants will only serve to cover up the real structural crimes that are FIFA. Present Warner et al, as a ‘peace’ offering. That is not good enough!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what other sewage is washed out with the flushing of these FIFA stallions.

Maybe, just maybe the Caribbean connection and its investigative details might wash down some info re other related parties and give info on matters dearer to our hearts closer to home. That is often the joy (or pain, depending on the side you sit) of big investigations like this. The collateral sweep of info.

From an operational perspective it would also be great to learn what was the tipping point to get the FBI stuck in on this (apart from having an inside informant in the person of Glazer) some 3-4 years ago. After all, corruption was rampant in FIFA for generations.

And to the other blogger’s point, there are so many big corruption matters that need to be investigated and prosecuted so hopefully success here gets the FBI the free license to go harder at others.

  3. @ David

If you had the ability to print any amount of money you liked, had a printing press in your basement, we could charge you even tens of billions and it wouldn’t matter, to you, either.

We are talking about putting corporations in jail, since they are legal persons with more rights that natural people. We talking about all the senior officials being hung. We are talking about crimes committed against every human being on earth, or mars, by banksters. These crimes may Warner et al Sunday school boys.

  4. @Pacha

You of all people know this will NEVER happen. Bankers from back in the day have controlled the world. The exponential adoption of the fractional reserve banking system has cemented it unless there is a collapse.

Let’s not worry ourselves too much about FIFA. It seems that corruption is being rooted out all over the world, except here in Barbados. If you examine the record, it would appear that Barbados is the cleanest corruption free in the world, even though we have politicians who become multimillionaires from pauper in a few years after appointment to Cabinet.

We have too much filth in this country to be bothered or even rejoice about Warner, who could bring down people here if he rolls over.

  6. @Caswell

What about the opportunity it affords to discuss the Jack Ronald association?

  7. But David

We don’t believe the Swiss should be extraditing anybody to the US, either.

The Americans are the biggest criminals in the world. We learn the crimes we practice from them.

Maybe they are prepared to sacrifice the Qataris to give the Russian a diplomatic bleedy nose. We think that will be the angle. So Warner el al are merely to be sacrificial lambs!

David, for all practical purposes the fines are the least of the banks concerns, I wouldn’t say they are irrelevant as the amounts are not small in several cases, but they essentially become a business expense.

What angers many onlookers like myself – and Pacha I presume – is that there are practically no indictments (criminal or otherwise) against these major misdeeds.

Despite the legal shroud of incorporation and the ‘protection’ it offers there are often still clear paths to go after individuals or indeed the corporation itself for indictments.

That is the rub. That can cause major corporate and economic damage and thus is a political no-no. That’s where we see that life in all its guises is continuously orchestrated.

One quick example of how devastating an indictment can be would be the Enron case. The big accounting firm Arthur Anderson was effectively dissolved as a result of their proven malfeasance there. That sir, rocked an entire industry of monied people.

Their lawyers and lobbyist (the monied folk, that is) will do all possible to ensure such like than does not happen again.

So when some of those banks skirted real, real close to indictments re the LIBOR collusion/interest fixing, mortgage securities and other issues which would have seen them precluded from offering on government bonds and other major business – essentially shutting them down – they readily and quickly agreed to some hefty fees.

As I recall in all cases there were no ‘admissions of wrong doing’. Thus, a mere business expense.

Customers always pay for a corporation’s business expense so what’s to worry about with the fines!

  9. @Pacha

Maybe maybe the geopolitical machinations unraveling here may bear some fruit palatable for local consumption given the actors involved.

Good point…I was trying to grasp the tipping point for this FIFA investigation now and that Russian angle is absolutely as solid as any other.

Caswell, of course everyone should care about the FIFA investigation on the local level.

You are informed enough to recall that it was a US led investigation via I believe their Foreign Corrupt Practices Act – or some variant of it at that time – that finally led to the prosecution of O’Halloran and the major political corruption he had spawned.

Perhaps this spear point cause the type of blood letting that allows you and others to triage or NOT our locally sick and corrupt patients. One can only hope.

    This is colonialism at work.

Even it you are not a US citizen or permanent resident but merely dealt, did a financial transaction in US dollars, in third countries, the empire’s laws mark you as one to be deported to their dungeons. LOL

  18. @ Pacha
    ….so what are you saying?
    you want everything or nothing?

It is clearly only a start, ….probably too little too late, …and likely done with ulterior motives, however it is ALWAYS a welcome sight when such criminals get busted and exposed…

    LOL
…there will be many other sports executives who must now think twice before travelling on their regular jaunts to these 5 star destinations….
…never know what information the FBI holds on past deals …..or when they will act..

The US justice system has a way of bribing accused persons to be ‘tell-tale-tits’…

    Ha ha ha
Let us see if some travel patterns change now….

  19. Could it be that the immediate objective is to disrupt Friday’s election of a President for FIFA? If so, this effort has apparently failed, as the election goes ahead and Sepp Blatter is expected to win. The effort by some North Atlantic Football Federations(countries) to derail 2018 World cup in Russia and 2022 World cup in Qatar has been floundering and failing to find traction. It is important that access to the documents supporting any extradition requests be given broad publicity in the interests of justice.

  20. A transaction they deem illegal, immoral —- paying bribes etc. As tough it were possible to do international business without making some kinds of payments, ex gratia. LOL

Of course, these law are selective asserted. Mitt Romney paid or received bribes for the Salt Lake City Winter Games and nothing happened to him. Obama will be the first ex-President to be a billionaire, the reason he’s fighting so hard for TPP, a la Bill Clinton. The presidency itself is a corruption, but they will have none of it.

In the US, it’s better for the ‘unconnected’ to commit murder than to play with those people money systems. When you do that there will search heaven and earth to find you.

This is one reason we try to avoid the green back.

“Good news! I wonder what Ronald Jones is thinking today. If Jack Warner was really arrested, that is.”

Yes, AWTY, this may be good news. But how does Ronald Jones fit into this scenario, since it is unlikely Jack Warner would have provided the BFA with funds from his corrupt practices?

At this stage we do not have enough information to form a reasonable opinion on this matter, and without such, any conclusion will be speculative.

Even if one were to assume there was an “unprofessional” association between Warner and Jones, whereby exchanges of cash were transacted from the former to the latter, Jones could easily argue he thought the funds came from a legitimate source, (FIFA), especially if he could proved he used those funds for its intended purposes; (i.e. the development of football in Barbados) and he could accurately or reasonably account for cash disbursements

However, the evidence available relative to Warner’s financial activities, suggests he used his funds, whether acquired legally or illegally, to finance his political ambitions.

  22. @ Bushie

That justice will never give peace when it is cock-eyed.

What justice can we get from the most unjust nation on earth.

Only a selective appearance of justice in the service of self.

We have never considered you a person reliant on the Devil to battle Satan!

  27. The FIFA official arrested are from Latin America and the Caribbean who are being charged in connection with corruption relating to tournaments in those areas. What about officials from Asia Europe, Australia and Africa who are also known to pocket large bribes in connection with the awarding of World Cup venues etc? The World Cup in 2006 was supposed to go to South Africa and the NZ representative for one voted against the express orders of his Govt for Germany, there were a few other votes that also went to Germany that swayed the results. Its business as usual for those other officials everyone knows that the Quataris paid millions of dollars for the 2022 World Cup and incidentally has anyone read about the virtual slave labour who are building the venues?

Is there a statute of limitations for these charges? Will officials from the IOC face charges? How did Atlanta get the games in 1996? There is a story to be told there …….

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/14/migrant-workers-dying-qatar-world-cup

  28. I have no sympathy for the Jack Warner(s) of this world, let’s face it even without the charges the man was as arrogant as can be. I remember he had a dispute with the Canadian soccer body and he literally threatened to take up the FIFA football and go home.

However the US is laying charges against officials of a Worldwide organisation presumably because some members broke the laws of the USA so we can assume some of the bribe money came from US sources or is lodged in US bank accounts hence we have money laundering and Switzerland is prepared to extradite them (no wonder Assange won’t leave the Peruvian Embassy but that’s another story).

It is to laugh that FIFA hired a US investigator to investigate these accusations and despite his findings FIFA gave itself a clean slate essentially saying there is nothing to see here folks let’s move along.

Earlier in the blog reference was made to the Banks being fined re LIBOR etc. unless someone goes to jail these criminal acts will continue in one form or another. The traders will continue to bank (pardon the pun) large bonuses from their actions and the big brass will continue to claim we know “nuttin bout nutting” but the bottom line will continue to grow, the fines are just a cost of doing business.

  29. @ Sargeant
…obviously the key to the whole affair is Blazer’s “melodies”…..and he has details on Concacaf.
The theory is that as the net widens, more (jail)birds will get into “singing” and more will be drawn into the loop…

    @ Pacha
You seem to have a serious problem with any approaches other than your own strategic ‘break down and build back’ methodology….
What you will find however, is that even when you go to all that trouble, the UNDERLYING problems will recur and you will be back to square 1.

The problems that we face lie in the corrupted hearts of men….
..and the solution is in changing the NATURE of such inbuilt corruption….

Words that comes to mind are…
    LOVE
    REDEMPTION
    righteousness
    honesty
    self-less-ness

Even if you mash up every shiite…and restart without these qualities, you are guaranteed the same outcomes…

    BTW…
Bushie don’t rely “on the Devil to battle Satan”, …but why would the bushman complain about attempts (flawed as they are) to bring clear criminals to justice….?

“LOL ha ha ha …… Sometimes you can write some shiite hear….? If shit had wings um would fly too…..”

I agree Bushie, I have the ability to do that at times, uh getting old, so forgive muh.

However, many will agree we are both guilty of the same charge, except in some cases your shiite is so long, it makes me wonder if you took a strong dose of epsom salts.

  31. @ Bushie

    You have well misunderstood us.

This breakdown/buildback mentality is not ours. When you agreed with us last night we had argued that history was non-linear. That it breaks itself down and builds itself back. We should not pretend to have total control of history or the future.

If anything we would prefer the world of yesterday in many ways, so we’re conservative in some fashion. Not given to the narrative you paint.

Our issue is that the most illegal, wicked, government ever on the face of earth should not be in the seat of judgement over world countries, its peoples.

You are the one with inconsistency. You have spent much time engaging the wickedness of the Americans but because their current actions, viz a viz Jack Warner, you are willing to praise the Devil for doing something right. That is an emotional response!

  32. Here is an excerpt from an article in NYT

“Law enforcement officials said much of the inquiry involves Concacaf, one of the six regional confederations that compose FIFA. Concacaf — which stands for Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football — includes major countries like the United States and Mexico, and also tiny ones like Barbados and Montserrat”

  35. Midday news on VOB indicates that extradition proceedings have already started for Mr Warner to be handed over to the US authorities. He was his usual cocky self. Now all we have to do is to get the FBI to trace some Clico money through the US banking system and then to take action as appears as if nothing will ever happen here.

Since all will be looking at this posting , I am asking here after reading in Barbados Today the news in which Ryan Straughn’s crying shame on what happening at our Central Bank under the watch of Dr. DeLisle Worrell, I must ask if Dr. Worrell hates Barbados for not allowing him to be Governor of the Bank when he was younger and sane, looking at the man face tells a lot, thank God he have no children , may be that why he is the way he is

  38. HAS JACK WARNER BEEN ARRESTED?

Short answer.No.However the US have started the extradition ball rolling. It should be interesting to see how this request plays out given that Ish and Steve are in the same boat for over 10 years now.Deep pockets have a way of getting the goal post moved all the time.

Jack Warner was this afternoon brought before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar. He arrived at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court at around 3.40p.m. An hour before, Warner surrendered to police officers at the Fraud Squad, Police Headquarters, Port of Spain. He came following news that police had obtained a warrant for his arrest.
