Google’s Cost Obsessions Search

Google_SearchesWhat if Barbadians knew how people in other countries perceived them. Users of Google search engine offers an autocomplete function based on common searches by other users. How many times, if you are a Google search engine user, you start to type a search and the Google search engine ‘drops down’ several options.

It is no surprise in response to ‘how much does a **** cost’ the key word result was cigar for Cuba,  Trinidad-Divorce, Brazil -Prostitute, Haiti-Funeral. Do you want to know what the keyword was for Barbados? – see list for other countries and related link Cost Obsessions Around the World.

  • Glad to know that it is not porn. I used to find that google is intrusive but I use it as my main search engine. I quite like Dogpile search engine. This piece of info can be very profitable for those wedding planners and the Tourist industry. However many do not have user friendly websites and many are not laid out nicely. Still not many Bajans who have websites submit them to search engines making it very difficult to find at times.

De ole man was inclined to believe that it would have said “How much does a Minister of Parliament cost?”

I did not find that category strangely enough but the nest closest thing was “prostitute” in Moldova.

I think that Google, like Moody’s made a mistake and I started to look for a way to reach them so that they could correct what is an obvious “big data” glitch, like the NIS Cvntputers at Culloden Road…

  • Bear in mind the search findings is based on a specific search string ‘How much does x cost’.

I just reran this on Google and top of the list was “beer” followed by “wedding”. “Beer” seems an eminently sensible search to me, particularly if you are organising a wedding.

  • Recently for some reason or another I looked up the Wikipedia entry for Abdul Malik (formerly Michael DeFreitas, Michael X) who was hanged in Trinidad for the murder of British socialite Gail Benson-Hedges (there was a calypso of the trial). His bio states that he was born in Trinidad and in a WTF moment I read that his mother was an “Obeah practising woman from Barbados”.

We are lucky that the word is not Obeah …….

  • Correction:
Abdul Malik was hanged for the murder of Joseph Skerrit, Stanley Abbot and Edward Chadee were convicted of Benson-Hedges murder, while Abbot was hanged Chadee’s sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. I think that the speculation was Skerrit was killed because the mastermind behind Benson- Hedges murder (Malik) thought he was going to “sing” about Benson-Hedges disappearance.

Enough for today here is Kitchener:

Google Wants To Buy Trinidad and Tobago for $30billionUSD

    google trinidad

After Moody’s Investor Service downgraded Trinidad and Tobago’s rating, Google has been disappointed in Trinidad and Tobago, a nation it has gotten involved with due to a 2013 email scandal. Google sees TnT as country with great potential that is being wasted. Google is considering buying the twin island republic for about $30bUSD to run its affairs more efficiently and reap the benefits for themselves.

Google CEO, Larry Page, said the company is disappointed most of all by Trinidad and Tobago’s lack of initiative. “It’s crazy. The country has so much oil, so many engineering and computer science graduates, so much international cultural capital, yet they have invented nothing to help with their traffic problem, they still use typewriters in licensing offices, and they don’t mass produce steelpans even though the entire world LOVES that fucking thing! I heard some people even still use Blackberry phones. It would be an injustice for us to sit back and let this laziness persist.
