Baltimore is listed as the largest city in the State of Maryland, the largest independent city and the 26th most populous city in the USA. Of note is that greater than 60% of the population is Black followed by about 29% White. In the wake of Freddie Gray’s funeral – yet another Black man to die in police custody under questionable circumstances – rioting and other violent behaviour has placed the city under siege. The question onlookers are asking – is this a bunch of stupid Black people inappropriately expressing themselves? Is this a bunch of Black people with just concerns about race relations in America today? Is it ignorance and just concerns commingling?

D INGRUNT a friend of mines wife fell backward off the first step of the basement stairs severed something and died soon after lucky he was at work , I have seen it twice, elderly people missing the hand rail going up stairs falling backward injuring their neck with death resulting. If he was standing and the vehicle jerk he could have fallen backward, The autopsy will shed some light but I doubt it will be definitive. The news said over 600 people were murdered in Baltimore in the last 24 months by the black gorillas, crips ,and bloods what makes any of those deaths less important. Where is the marching for them I cannot believe there is only one video of this event ??? strange.

@MoneyBrain April 30, 2015 at 9:09 AM “The emphasis must be on identifying the actual problems and strategising to find workable Solutions to be implemented.”
Therefore since the danger of lead paint has been know for more that 40 years (I was warned about the danger of lead paint when I first became a parent almost 40 years ago) would you agree that a workable strategy and solution would be or order landlords to remove lead contamination (since lead is a KNOWN POISON of young children’s brains. Landlords who do not comply would be hit where it hurts until such time as they comply.

True enough…but what if the patient is as dead as Freddy Gray…

GP, yes the good doctor in the article is speculating. And indeed magistrate/coroner Simmons cautioned you well to avoid this type of ‘supposing’. But in this situation he can afford to speculate based on his experience. Obviously he could not speculate without solid evidence if he was standing in a court of law.
His remarks will be tested by the reports but until then they are as valid as yours were. He simply decided to be a bit more definitive than you were.
Lawson, your reasoning is too much for my limited capacity. You are suggesting that he could have received this broken neck due to a possible fall when the van jerked. Ok, as plausible as any other speculation.
So I presume that you accept then that the cops did not affix his seat belt because they saw him as a threat to bite them (as one person indicated) and thus I would further assume that you place the blame for Gray’s fall squarely on his own recklessness.
Lawson, either way the cops are culpable. If he fell as you suggested then it means some of those cops can likely be charged with some departmental misconduct at minimum. Far cry from negligent homicide of course.
But simply stated it shows their callous disregard for his life. I am not trying to paint the cops as demons; this is simply to say the man is a human being.
Good gracious, if you have a job as a beekeeper then you gotta be able to deal with buzzing bees all the time;a zookeeper with lions and tigers and so on. At the mental institution with pee and spit possibly being thrown at you.
Why are police officers taking a job which they know is f**** dangerous and simply reacting to crazy, angry, sometimes psychopathic; sometimes drugged up people with callous disregard and disdain and we are trying to find all sorts of reasons why its acceptable.
It is NOT. Get another job if you can’t manage your frigging actions.
Some activists are trying to SHUT DOWN Seaworld because they claim that the trainers there are mistreating the whales; its wrong to cage these wild animals and so on. Even if one of the animals ‘acts out’ and one of those trainers were to treat it (whale or one of the dolphins) with 50% of the indifference Blacks are treated by cops the frigging US of A would go in full blast ‘sympathy’ mode.
But here we cussing the man, his mental state and his long rap sheet rather than simply acknowledging that he was treated worst that one of the damn dolphins.
How much damn training and training and training do cops have to undertake to treat suspects like humans!

GP, yes the good doctor in the article is speculating. CORRECT. IF HE HAS NOT SEEN THE BODY OR A POST MORTEM REPORT HE IS BEING VERY IRRESPONSIBLEAnd indeed magistrate/coroner Simmons cautioned you well to avoid this type of ‘supposing’. HE SURE DID
But in this situation he can afford to speculate based on his experience. YOU ARE OFF COURSE HERE. YOU OUGHT NOT TO SPECULATE IN THE CURRENT INFLAMMATORY ENVIRONMENT
Obviously he could not speculate without solid evidence if he was standing in a court of law. HE SHOULD NOT SPECULATE LIKE THIS PERIOD
His remarks will be tested by the reports but until then they are as valid as yours were.
I HAVE BEEN VERY CAREFUL NOT TO OFFER AN OPINION SIR. I GIVE LISTS OF POSSIBLE RELEVANT CAUSES TO BE RULED OUT IN THE SITUATION, SEEING I HAVE NOT SEEN THE BODY. I CAN NOT GIVE A DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS IN THIS CASE FROM HERE—–NOR CAN HE, UNLESS HE HAS RELEVANT EVIDENCE
He simply decided to be a bit more definitive than you were. NOT TRUE HE WAS IRRESPONSIBLE AND INFLAMMATORY AND POSSIBLY PAID. HOW CAN HE COME INTO THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION AND SPECULATE IF HE HAS NOT SEEN THE PATIENT ALONG WITH A GOOD HISTORY?
HE WANT LOCKING UP!

Well guys here is some definitive for you…Mr Lawson, go to the front of the class, it seems you were on the right track!
“Freddie Gray’s neck was snapped while he was riding in a Baltimore police van, a local TV station reported Thursday.”
-
D Ingrunt I do not disagree they are culpable but for most protesters to make the quantum leap to intentional murder without all the facts and somehow fail to even shed a tear for the other six hundred that were definitely intentionally murdered some how seems disingenuous to me. I also agree with you with the job taking, no one I know would want to work there, you have to be crazy like missionaries in the middle east wacked or crazy like jumping out of a plane nuts, but normal people would not make the effort to try and fix the problems there. What kind of idiots are we dealing with that would ruin their own stores rob their neighbours and burn down old age homes. Have the cops helped anybody there?, does anybody feel safer that they are there? When the gangs unite and say they are going to get cops do you think they will be faster or slower and sizing up a situation?

Well guys here is some definitive for you…Mr Lawson, go to the front of the class, it seems you were on the right track!“Freddie Gray’s neck was snapped while he was riding in a Baltimore police van, a local TV station reported Thursday.”
SEE IT HERE SAH!
Flexion injuries: POSSIBLE
Occur when there is a sudden forcible forward movement of the head, similar to a whiplash injury. This results in damage to the vertebrae in the neck (cervical) region of the spinal column. The damaged vertebrae then impact on the spinal cord, causing damage around C5-C6. Spinal ligaments are often also torn. These types of injuries commonly occur in motor vehicle accidents.
lawson’s posit based on his experience – not speculation falls in this category below. POSSIBLE.
LAWSON SPOKE FROM CASES HE SAW JUST AS MED STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT FROM CASES THEY SEEHyperextension injuries:
Happen if you fall and the neck is forcibly extended in a backward direction, stretching the spinal cord. Even if there is minimal damage to the spinal column, the opening up of the discs and stretching of the ligaments damages the spinal cord. This injury is often seen in older people, and those injured in domestic accidents and assaults. Hyperextension of the neck is the most common way children damage their spinal cords. There is often little or no damage to the spinal column, but the force of the trauma causes excessive stretching of the spinal cord.
BUT STILL THE PRESS MIGHT BE SPECULATING
IS THE REPORT BASED ON SOUND PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS?
OTHERWISE I STICKING WITH MY DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS………..UNTIL ALL THE EVIDENCE COMES IN -
BUt David that is exactly what the doctor in the article did.
As I noted he was more definitive that our good doctor but essentially he did as GP did. Stated how a break could happen, what would be sort of force needed etc. He surely also made more telling statements than GP was willing to make but none of them were across the line.
Like …
“With this type of injury, the neck must be immediately stabilized to prevent worsening of unrecognized cervical spine injuries. Gray allegedly asked for medical attention multiple times, yet he did not receive it until after he arrived at the police station, where he was found unconscious in the back of the van.”
or…
“From a medical standpoint, it is unlikely that the 25-year-old Baltimore man injured himself in the back of that van. The severity of his injuries seem too grave for him to have done that to himself simply by thrashing around or banging his head on something.”
He gave a very general view of ‘what ifs ‘or ‘what could be”.
Methinks our good doctor was a bit harsh in his condemnation of the doctor’s “speculation”.
-

But the other doctor was sing hs experience and was just speculating…eh. play that again, please. Is that a Tank piece of reasoning (my bro used to tell me funny stories of him, so I am thinking this is such!
But more important re your reasoning:
” Freddie Gray’s neck was snapped while he was riding in a Baltimore police van…
…the Medical Examiner found that Gray’s “catastrophic injury” happened when he slammed into the back of the van and that “a head injury he sustained matches a bolt in the back of the van.”
How you can omit the last part.
Would flexion still be in play?
Or rather the neck crashing against that bolt. By his volition, his falling or otherwise. You are the expert so clarify.
And yes all this is still not yet properly defined so still some speculation ongoing.
-

Then the policemen who put him in the van without securing him with a seat belt should be charged.

HERE IS MY INITIAL DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS TODAY
Georgie Porgie April 30, 2015 at 1:52 PM #
How Do Spinal Cord Injuries Usually Occur?Spinal cord injuries are often the result of unpredictable accidents and/or violent events.
The following can all result in damage to the spinal cord:
a violent attack (such as a stabbing or a gunshot)
diving into water that is too shallow and hitting the bottom
trauma during a car accident (specifically trauma to the face, head and neck region, back, or chest area)
falling from a significant height
head injuries during sporting events
electrical accidents
severe twisting of the middle portion of the torso
IN THE CASE UNDER STUDY THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS MUST INCLUDE
severe twisting of the middle portion of the torso
trauma during a car accident (specifically trauma to the face, head and neck region, back, or chest area)NOTE IN THE CASE UNDER STUDY THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS MUST INCLUDE
trauma during a car accident (specifically trauma to the face, head and neck region, back, or chest area)
IS THIS WHAT HAS ACTUALLY OCCURRED.

I was reading a report in NYT that referred to the Police placing Gray in the “Paddy Wagon” and someone objected to the use of the term “paddy wagon” indicating that it was a slur against the Irish people.About “Thug”, just thought I’d share this article about the origin of the word, incidentally the Iron Lady used to refer to her Union opponents as “thugs” and the English used to refer to rowdy football fans as “thugs” today they are hooligans. I know there are nuances and “dog whistles” to convey certain feelings and impressions to certain demographics but I don’t know why black people would want to appropriate the word as their own, could it be that once again we are being led by the lowest common denominator? How many Gangsta Rappers use the term as part of their name?

GP because you are a scholar and an experienced doctor it seems that no one can disagree with you on simple facts. Beg your pardon. I am not questioning your medical knowledge; as I said you are the expert. I am speaking about your reasoning and your statements.
Another joke of course is that doctors, unlike JAs like me who have to live with ours, you guys bury your mistakes! But yet you guys are always right because you so smart. I know I en lie.
You said above, “BECAUSE I DID NOT READ THIS”. It was clear to me that you certainly could not have otherwise the matter of flexion would not have been mentioned so prominently. As I said doctors bury their mistakes. You did exactly that above. Just brushed it away.
Whiplash is a violent ‘to and fro’. in my layman speak My layman’s judgement (remember now we laymen sit on the juries and rule on the FACTS) also tells me that the imprint of a bolt on hs head would not draw a conclusion of flexion or ‘whiplash’
Again I repeat you are the expert and missing that last sentence was crucial to accuracy of not of the strength of your remarks.
Surely I know I would have flunked the class doc. I understand my limited capacity would not get me to pass that, but I also know when the facts don’t match the reasoning. Those classes I passed at the top of the group.
For a seasoned professional you have thin skin. To make a joke or disagree is to have an ‘ad hominem’. Oh lawd.
My latin has always been terrible as I thought that phrase described a strong attack on the speaker’s character/attributes to the exclusion of his subject. Certainly not a passing critique of his words. But you have corrected me here today.
Anyhow, it’s good to engage with a pro in his area of expertise so forget the BS talk about attacking you and let’s deal with the matter under review.
I do not agree that the doctor’s article established any level of certainty on Gray or attempted to do so. He was more expressive and definitive in his remarks than you were but he crossed no line. That is an opinion and does not need a medical or legal degree to be validated. We can agree to disagree.
And Tank as I understand it was a top notch man, beloved and feared alike by his students over the years. A good man, may he continue to rest peacefully.
Doc you are in the rum shop not the medical school..lighten up!

@Hants
Then the policemen who put him in the van without securing him with a seat belt should be charged.
+++++++++++
I heard that is the modus operandi for the Baltimore Police, they place people on the arrest, put them in handcuffs in the back of the van sans seatbelts, then subject them to a rough ride sudden stops, twists and turns where you are thrown around without means to protect yourself. Apparently a couple of people have been injured this way but nothing has come of those instances. -
@Sargeant,
If Gray had survived it would have been a civil case and a settlement.
Animals are treated better by Police than Blacks.
-
Don,tpay GP .e hates when anyone disagrees .the best advice is to stay out his way andlet him bellow and bray across the classroom.the fact is that given the police histories in the past six years it would be very hard not to belive that the police did not in one way or another contributed to this man death. The coroners report is vague but only gives a principle action that might have occured and contributed to his death however knowing what have been seen by past death and actions there would be always apublic view that his death was caused by forceful action at thehands of the police officers..No doubt about it.
-
Sargeant, thug, hoe, nigga, children momma, bitch, dog…
These are words embraced by the peps in the hood. Why do we get all worked up when the media highlights the usage. All of a sudden it’s as if we (Blacks) are being denuded of our self worth. It’s BS.
Every day Black people live and breath those words but when they are used by white media it’s a put down of Blacks. Steeupse.
This is akin to the issue of pants under the ass as worn by the youth. What it means other than a style mimicking the rappers I have no idea but it certainly represents a ‘rude boy’ attitude. To call them out (black and white) on that is to denigrate them. Really.
The young ladies who ‘skin-out’ and have their wanton sexual practices and refer to themselves as hoes… to call them out as such is to denigrate them!
When our Black brothers and sisters stop the self degradation is when we will start making real progress. To blame the media or the President for using these terms is deflecting the real problems we face.
If they don’t want to be called thugs then don’t act like them.
Rioting, property destruction, and looting are NOT synonymous with peaceful civil protests. That is the behaviour of louts, vagabonds, criminals, anarchists and thugs.
-
Let me clarify. Those words are used by Blacks generally from the hood and the rappers and their peeps.
I have no idea how often they are used by those in middle class and above, but being not a hood boy or a rapper groupie myself I use those words in my speech as often as I swim with the Great Whites sans cage off the Australian Barrier Reef!
-
@Sarge
Evidently the rule came down 3 days before Gray’s ride that the Police must belt them in. No belt all these years? -
@Simple Simon
All people should be made aware and forced where necessary to protect their renters and their own homes for that matter from many dangers:1 lead paint
2 Radon
3 fire (alarms)
4 Carbon Monoxide (detectors)
5 Mold (some types can kill)
6 asbestos (wicked killer)
7 defective electric wiringmore+++

Baltimore better brace for serious Rioting if the findings in anyway exonerates the Police, no matter how medically correct and professional. They have long since awaited condemnation and certainly want it.

If the evidence concludes that they are guilty deal with them harshly!
-
The ‘Ingrunt’ people here are sooooo ‘ignorant’ it’s always better for them to dump on Black people than to be informed by our sophisticated linguistic traditions.
You see, like good slaves, they are always seeking to serve their masters even when they are actually being harmful to the very establishment systems they revere so much.
They talk about language use by Black people and cite a number of words and their meanings, as if experts. All they have done is to reveal to us that they do not have the slightest knowledge about linguistics and their cultural connects to everything else. Researches have, for example, made foundational connections between language and music and the unparalleled genius of Black people in both.
More precisely, those who would prefer to dump on Black people out of an ‘Ingrunt’ that can’t possibly be informed by a knowledge of what the professional linguists call ‘intonation’ would never be able to determine the difference between ‘nigger’ and ‘nigga’.
For their information, intonation by Black people has attempted to turn a White man’s hateful word into a term of endearment. And there are all types of cultural tangents about which hundreds of dissertations have been written.
Those of you who always want to talk shiite might want to widen your knowledge base, at least in one field, before you put your asses into gear. All you do is to tell the rest of us the about the large and gaping holes in your knowledge bases.
You ‘uckers don’t even what a fair fight by at least trying to reconcile the genius of the African-American with perceived maladies.
-
This is why it can never be acceptable for White people to call us ‘nigger’ or ‘nigga’. For different reasons of course. We hope enough has been learnt to at least urge some to be more thoughtful. You have become tiring!
-
You have shown that you know too little, about too much!

Of Doctor GP you said “For a seasoned professional you have thin skin. To make a joke or disagree is to have an ‘ad hominem’. Oh lawd.”
Some time ago Brother Bushie nearly killed me one Sunday after church.
He said something about Dompey that de ole man laughed so much, I peed myself, which at this time of incontinence, is not too hard to do.
Dompey had made some mention about “we ole peeple interfering with young boys” and we tag teamed him on “this chink in his armour” with Brother Bushie saying a gem about “if teachers in 1973 had tasers and had done the wise thing and tazed his donkey for the idiocy that he obviously had patented well…(or something to that effect, de ole man remembrance is understandably flawed)
Dompey cuss de two of we lef, right and centre…but this was the rum shop and, like the EVER PRESENT AC, call her what you like, (sorry call one of them what you will) she will come back and say her version of a rebuttal, and move on, unless it is my girlfriend SSS den tings used to get reallll hot (but that is past)

ANY response/reflection on the “edict of the lord” not that I am using a common “l”, WILL ELICIT “the Wrath of Khan”.
I know, the ole man have it with the grans, “I have spoken thou little critters (I did not say cretins) and SELAH”
You can well appreciate that he has been a Dr. GP for many, many year, teaching INGRUNT students WHO OBVIOUSLY could not dissent with the goodly doctor.

Oh I meant no insult to you de Ingrunt Word when I used the adjective in your moniker in the sentence above when describing the students that GP “enlightened” as in “thou shalt have no other gods before me”, again the “g” is commonalized.

There is no unanimity of thought as to how black people should be informed or react to any situation. MLK and Malcolm adopted different methods yet their objectives were the same, today we have two of the foremost black intellectuals of this generation ( Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson) at each other’s throats to the consternation of the wider community. Barack Obama is alternatively loved and sometimes harshly criticised by the same people, we should never abdicate our right to be critical because sometime shares the same pigmentation as us.
Moving on I have a book recommendation, it is by Michelle Alexander and is called ”The New Jim Crow”- Mass Incarceration in the age of Colorblindness”, it is required reading for anyone who wants to have a better understanding of the perils that many black people face in the US.
Hopefully we will all be a little enlightened.

Pieces, no attack from me. If you cuss me and you right then more power; if we disagree then I will say why I think so.
Take your friend Pacha for example. Like the good Dr GP, he too has omnipotent knowledge and also tends to wield a certain disdain when you show how ‘ignorant’ you is by stating a view different to his proven knowledge.
Like my commentary of ‘use of English, Afro style’.
Now in my limited capacity I understand that it is one thing to use a tone and vernacular amongst yourself and even in your songs and so on to others in order to expand one’s culture.
It’s absolutely a different matter completely when that vernacular is turned back on you by others in a derogatory way and you then become all upset and start cussing the people.
It’s also absolutely a different matter when the community does not distinguish between discourse within and conversations outside the group. Bajan patois with bajans and Jamaicans speaking their patois with their brethren is good. To attempt to do that to a judge or HR manager outside our homeland is bad. You are labelled uneducated. Speak accepted English.
To speak of hoe and ‘child mother’ in a colloquial setting is cool. To be singing about hoes and how many baby mommies and bitches you have is to be misogynistic and a profiteer on the backs of your people. There is nothing cool about that.
The linguist and academics can parse it and study it to fulfill their professional rites but it does not enhance or celebrate our society. Nor does it make it just to react when others use those terms to describe us.
If I am a king, leader or simply can ‘afford’ it and my old style society allows me multiple wives with a definitive understanding that I support every one and our children that’s one thing. But the modern construct of dropping children all over the place to validate some weird sense of manhood is asinine.
It is a blight on our Black society that we need to address. Not get angry and defensive when it is highlighted by others.
So when I am called ingrunt and ignorant because I assert that these behaviors and use of words by our Afro brethren is a disgusting perversion and corruption of our culture then I am comfortable with that label.
I really do not now or never have been concerned about a white person calling me a nigger or whatever in disagreement. It affects me not in the least. It simply tells me that he is attempting psychological warfare. If I enjoin then I am as stupid as he is and I am losing sight of the real goal.
Same here, when the intellectuals start to call you all sorts of names in the most vitriolic way rather than state the disagreement in a practical way.
But then I am just ingrunt so what do I know. How would I ever know what the deep intellectuals and linguist expound about.
More power.

What is funny is that you Mr GP call yourself a man of God and yet can be so vitriolic in disagreement.
Continue having fun. Nothing wrong with your knowledge base and joke material but you do need to work on your punch line delivery.

ANOTHER INSULT BY PIECE
I can bet that he is related to our Prime Minister Fumbles “I WILL BROACH NO DISSENTING OPINIONS,
AFTER THE MORON FUMBLE IS NEARLY ALWAYS WRONG
WHEN GP GIVES A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF THE POSSIBLE CAUSES OF SPINAL INJURIES -WITHOUT SAYING WHAT IDIOTS BELIEVE SHOULD BE SAID– HE IS 100 ACCURATE!
WHEN GP APROACHED THE SITUATION YESTERDAY IN A CONSERVATIVE WAY HE WAS 100% ACCURATE.
THERE IS A GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FUMBLE AND GP
