A few days ago, I wrote an article in which I stated that ‘if the IMF’s Report was made available to Barbadians before Minister Estwick’s presentation to Cabinet, then this already ‘irrelevant DLP’ would become ‘obsolete’. But even before the Cabinet met, the IMF sent a strong message that it will not be entertaining any further proposal from this DLP Government. Talk about brush-off! The message was crystal clear: talk all you like but the IMF will not hear you! What could be ’eminent’ about any Cabinet that is slapped-down like that?
My fellow Barbadians, you gave the DLP this country to manage for five years (whatever reason you may have had) but within the first year, the DLP has caused tremendous pain and suffering and on-top of that – it has virtually sub-let Barbados to the IMF. Clearly, that is not what you had in mind! You need to take-back your country from the DLP and put in the hand of people who are disciplined; know what to do to get Barbados out of this DLP-mess, people who are not allergic to the “truth” and who you know you can trust.
In contrast, obviously condemned by the IMF Report, ‘a weak; desperate; dangerous and exposed DLP Government’ – now tells the country: “blame us” essentially passing ‘a justified vote of no confidence in itself’ but only to soften-up and distract Barbadians! Not good enough! How could telling Barbadians, six (6) years late, what Mia Mottley and the BLP were warning them about all along, ever be considered: ‘breaking news?’
Furthermore, why should Barbadian taxpayers continue to pay an incompetent DLP, when the country is being run by the IMF, anyhow? In any event, it is too late to apologise and nothing less than the full resignation of the entire Government, will do!
“Blame Us?” Not so easy! The time for blame has long passed! It is now ‘time to fix the problem’ so that this Government (which has lost its way) does not continue to cause Barbadians grief. It is no secret that the real problem, which grips Barbados – is the DLP. The nightmare occurred because the DLP ignored sound well-reasoned advice and proceeded with a “fatted calf doctrine” and its “oppressive political entitlement Programmes,” intended to funnel state funds to dems, as part of its fatted calf doctrine.
But the DLP now tells the country, “blame us” when it really ought to be charged for “criminal negligence,”especially given the unnecessary human suffering it is causing and the fact that it also arrogantly ignored sound advice, which has resulted in social; economic and political instability and is causing Barbadians unnecessary harm. But if there was no DLP, there would be no problem to fix and no savage layoffs.
Imagine, this DLP ignored sound; well-reasoned advice; told the country “stop bellyaching” and that is does not listen to its critics, essentially – that it does not want to hear anybody, except a “pal” or those who have large amounts of foreign currency to put at its disposal – to obviously – be reckless with.
When compounded by its natural ability to dangerously mismanaged – the same economy it said was not important – this DLP is causing unprecedented stress, fear and unnecessary human suffering but has the nerve to tell people crap about: “blame us,” ‘ONLY’ because it is now clear that Minister’s pensions, are at risk!
Nobody will get ‘carried away’ by this ‘last minute confession,’ which is nothing more than: “desperation for relevance” from an ‘intolerable, reckless bunch,’ who are embarrassed by the IMF Report and are now determined to trick Barbadians, one more time, in a ploy to keep State power they cannot justify having but feel is theirs to keep.
The DLP was always a bad accident that was just waiting for somewhere and the opportunity to happen! It is these same “eminent” jokers and local political comedians and humbugs, who told the country that the economy is not important, the society is, and much later – that the economy “stable” and yet, the IMF is proving how utterly stupid and reckless, both statements, are! I do not know that the IMF manages societies, except to occasionally recommend putting the appropriate safety net in place.
Up to a few days before the IMF released its recent report on Barbados, the Prime Minister was heard making the ‘wild allegation’ and echoing the DLP’s trademark excuse, that Barbados’s economic woes can be tied to some Global Financial Crisis! While he was causing disquiet with that ‘dingy DLP propaganda,’ one of his Cabinet colleagues was admitting that the DLP’s policies are flawed; that the country is on the wrong path and that thousands are being savagely fired, ‘without just cause.’
That must have come as ‘shocking embarrassment’ to those who voted for the DLP. This country is supposed to be on some ‘pathway to progress’ and not ‘the highway to poverty and economic ruin,’ the DLP put it on in 2008, when it triggered this perilous crisis. Democracy may be a very dangerous thing but, since this DLP-crisis was foreseeable, it was preventable.
Nobody needed the DLP’s permission to know that this Government does not know what it is doing and that “the DLP is bad for Barbados!” Secondly, there is nothing that makes sense, that this-failed-DLP-Government can add to a modern Barbados, especially in this demanding environment. The IMF now presents irrefutable evidence that proves that ‘the DLP simply cannot cope’ and that they made a challenging situation, a horrible catastrophe!
In this regard, the sound; well-reasoned advice to Barbadians, is to urgently reeled-in this incompetent-DLP-Government, before it does anymore further damage to Barbados and causes even more Barbadians, unnecessary pain. In any event, ‘why validate an unjustified cost overrun by continuing to pay an irrelevant; incompetent DLP – when the country is being run by the IMF, anyhow?’Barbadians: Take back your country!
Thanks to the recent IMF Report – even ‘doubting-Barbadians’ now have independent; irrefutable evidence of the costly and tragic mistakes made by this incompetent DLP Government, as well as proof that everything the DLP told this country – is a horrible lie.
The fist cardinal and sinful blunder by the DLP was to increase the price of diesel by 77% (within its first 100-days in office) and then introduced that inflationary budget in July 2008, which robbed Barbadians out of over $108m. And what has been the collective result of that and other flawed DLP policies – one of its Cabinet Ministers told you about? Here is the IMF’s answer: “The economy shrank 0.7 percent last year and has contracted an average of 0.6 percent per year since 2008.”
It is simply an excuse and ‘a horrible-trademark-DLP-lie,’ for it to give the impression that only the DLP has had to deal with the global financial crisis. The truth is, the global financial crisis started in 2007 when the BLP was the Government and it finished in 2010 or should I say, in most countries around the world, except Barbados. The point is: nobody was fired from the Public Service, when the BLP was the Government and if the BLP was still the Government, nobody would have lost their job, either. In fact, everybody working before 2008, would have been appointed under the Public Service Act, hence – there would have been absolutely nobody to fire.
As regards the DLP’s silly excuse that the global economy is to blame for Barbados’ economic woes, here is the truth from the IMF again: “Barbados has not succeeded in recovering for the adverse consequences of the global financial crisis, and faces considerable challenges…”
In fact, thirty-five countries within Latin America and the Caribbean were able to cope. Not the DLP!The DLP caused our economy to “shrink” and to be downgraded to “Junk,” as well as, unprecedented human suffering.
But, I am confused! How does the Central Bank Governor go from telling the head of the IMF that the IMF gives “bad advice” to countries like Barbados and that the IMF’s model is “simply wrong” – to now saying that the DLP’s policies are in line with what the IMF is recommending?
