…Barbados dollar as exacerbated by a lack of a vision that would have strategically redeployed the reserves of the country into gold, Bitcoin, silver and other real wealth currencies…

The rapid evolution of mankind over recent millennia, and particularly after the Industrial Revolution, has hit a significant speed bump. We write this with the certain knowledge that we stand high risks of having all of our predictions being spectacular misjudgements. But unlike the general culture from which we come, we are bold and brave enough to not only try to bring new understandings to the past and better understand the present, we are prepared to, with audacity and poise, be daring enough to predict future events, in the short, medium and long term. As soothsayers, we predict that we are indeed at the end of an age that no set of forces can slow, moderate or reverse, even though humans are totally responsible for all these constructs but lack any real and concerted determination to radically alter outcomes.

The global decline of a vicious White power structure, we judge, will continue apace despite unusual efforts in Western capitals to stem the slide. It however, has a potential to take us all with it. The more they try the worse things will become. The manifestations of the economic decline of Europe will prominently appear in the streets of the USA in 2014, as early indications have already shown. These will be expressed by resource riots in the streets, soaring crime rates, rising levels of real unemployment as independently measured, a more indebted government, a more overt presence of a militarized police state, a further balkanization of populations in ‘protected’ or gated communities and the mass migration of those who could afford it. All this as more American cities and states discover the spectre of bankruptcy at their doorstep. Like Detroit, many more cities will be joining the conga line in 2014 and beyond.

Barbados and the Caribbean will fear no better. The recent revelations in Barbados portend prophesies of gloom and doom, not that these will stymie a systemic international, national, regional, local lethargy. The remarks by Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister have already driven Christopher Sinckler and a feckless Barbados government to a ‘mini budget’ mere months after the principle statement of national economic, fiscal affairs. But the insightful remarks by Kenny Anthony are to have much wider application, all other things being equal. But all other things will not be equal, as recent events in Saint Vincent and Anthony’s own Saint Lucia will show, for no one, no country, has been prepared or could be prepared for an entry into this unknown territory. So Sinckler can be expected to return with other mini budgets as the future makes a nullity of his firm anchorage to a political-economy model of a bygone era.

While Sinckler continues to reside in this world of yore we see a series of steep and unavoidable devaluations of the Barbados dollar as exacerbated by a lack of a vision that would have strategically redeployed the reserves of the country into gold, Bitcoin, silver and other real wealth currencies. Such a farsighted policy in itself could have earned a sufficiency of foreign resources to counterbalance current anomalies. Sinckler, Stuart and the GOB will not be able to exit the irrational dependence on the traditional foreign exchange earning sectors and will continue in the vain hope for deliverance from the vortex of a fundamental collapse of capitalism, on the one hand, and their inability to fashion another way, another organizing principle, on the other. They are like gamblers wishing their luck will change some time soon. It will continue to get worse and Barbados will end up in the mire as a result of the misguidance of those who still seem to believe we have no other options than B or D. With the Bees waiting at first slip to catch the people of Barbados.

In the wider Caribbean 2014 will see a number of elections, ahead of scheduled. Politicians will be forced to, in some cases, in others they will be seeking to use elections to control the pressure cookers these small island states will further become. Caribbean peoples will see more and more of the uselessness of their leaders across the board. Revolutions will be called for from Port au Prince to Port of Spain. The vested interests and their international confederates will leave no stone unturned in diverting the innate desires of the peoples into the service of the maintenance of a dying order. Not even the Secret Order, the secret intelligence agencies or their local networks will be able to deny the collective will of the Caribbean peoples. 2014 will see the first open failures of these conservative yearnings by vested Caribbean elites.

Internationally, pressures from emerging countries for the de- dollarization of international trade and for limits to, or a shift from, the US dollar as ‘the’ medium of exchange will gain pace. For the USA, 2014 will be a marked year. A year when decline is well recognized and the only remaining questions will relate to how much longer will we have to put up with the ugly American and how much damage could they do before their final breath, as global hegemon. And is there to be the usual war USA verses China starting in the South China Sea as triggered by the dumping of Chinese held and useless American paper, treasury bills. 2014 will start the accelerated migration of the power of The World Bank, The IMF, The International Bank of Settlements, the United Nations and other organs of world power away from the western powers. We will see more of the rise of the BRICS, a more consolidated Islamic Awakening and a China as the preeminent global trading superpower and lender of last resort.

So whether we are talking from a political, economic, social, technological, physical environment or legal environmental perspective, the state of the world, the Caribbean and Barbados is well positioned for a quantum leap into an abyss of disaster before any emergence of a more hopeful place, if that becomes possible. But before a dawn, capitalism will be more and more seen as the cul de sac it has been. Infinitely incapable of responding to the basic needs of people anywhere. Democracy’s promise will more and more give way to feudalism. The rich will continue to get richer and the poor, poorer.

Notwithstanding the monumental problems we are facing, and will continue to face, the nature of the human spirit represents the critical ingredient. Even in the worst of circumstances the pale skin peoples of the world will continue to feel that they better than Black peoples. The so-called middle classes will continue to believe that there can never be a common cause with the poor. The poor will be the first to die, the last to be fed and after the last to be housed and clothed. On top, marooned leaderships will continue to exploit the perceived differences for the maintenance of their power. Power as useless as a toothless tiger. Making things better may include major reversals in what is generically called development. It may not necessarily involve as radical a step as the institution of the lifestyle of Stone Age man but resource usage certainly has to be markedly reduced, especially by ‘advance’ countries.

  1. @brief

Don’t hold your breath, we know how these news conferences go.

  2. You talked as though there are no other avenues for foreign exchange. You close your mind to other possibilities and you assume that we would depending on the sold entity to bring in foreign exchange. You need to widen your perspective on this matter SITH

  3. @BU Bloggers

It amazes me to read all this negative rhetoric about the failing US economy, Feds money printing schemes, overstated Dow/S&P, under stated US unemployment rates, 17.5 trillion $ debt (this is Mark Fenty’s favorite quote), doom and gloom predictions for the entire world ALL tied to the US. What a bunch of baloney,

I agree with David (a rarity) that Pachamama entry is being hijacked by this US distraction.

To put this crap to rest, let me ask a few questions.

If the US economy is all that BU bloggers described in my initial paragraph, why are we so eagerly awaiting the MoF announcement tomorrow which is primarily designed to address the foreign reserves at hand (using a layman’s terms the amount of US dollars in the dam treasury)? Why is Barbados so hell bent on how much US dollars it can get its hand on for its survival? Why US dollars in the 1st place? Why not China’s currency? Why is China more interested in US dollars than their own? Why not Russian currency? Not even Euros?

You folk better get off that dead beat horse that capitalism is dead and invest on wall street now that the market is good. And all this doom and gloom Pachamama preaching at every interval, however well worded it is and he/she writes very well, it demonstrates a socialist, boarder line communistic ideology that is in line with pessimism rather than optimism. It is technically lots of good words with no real plan of action and a complete mis-understanding of the functioning of the world economy and lends absolutely to no path forward to get the ROCK out of this hard ass place that we have found itself.

Allow me to end on a personal note. I have spent that last 30 years of my life planning on an end game of completing a little house on the island (while doing my thing in the US) that I can relax in and go to the beach every now and again, watch a little cricket, and a lot of football and more recently read BU for a few laughs. This situation is scaring the shit out of my retirement plan and ALL of us better worry about a path forward with some optimism because from a distance this is NOT looking good at all. Not at all.

  4. @Askquith

Good that you can laugh at discussions on BU especially since many of our predictions are ringing true.

  5. @just asking

what are the other sources of FX that you would plan on using? another way to increase FX is stop spending it. there are just a whole bunch of things we can do in that regard but I am scratching my head as to where the new sources of FX you speak about would be. the government apparently has not figured them out either but they have figured out that stopping people from spending money on imported things by eliminating their salaries works. Only question is why 3000 people carrying the can for all of us and is that enough?

  6. Our food and energy bill has been increasing at a rate which is not sustainable. We focus on forex generation but not reduction on conspicuous consumption. To achieve a significant reduction we need to change behaviour. Are we prepared to make this modification in behaviour?

    @ David

Barbados at moment is all gloom and doom, the US is not. Barbados, according to Forbes is “on its knees” NOT US.

    What predictions are ringing true?

  8. @ David
It wasn’t my intent to undermine the flow of your conversation, nevertheless, I felt it necessary to respond to your comment with a question: why it is that Luxemboug, a country of some 998 sq miles, enjoys a higher standard of living than United States of America, a country of some 3,794 milion sq miles? Since you ‘re claiming that it is silly to compare the small Barbados to the larger U.S. We might as well claim that it is also silly to compare the small Luxemboug; a country with no way close to the natural resources of the larger America?

  9. @David
Interesting that a press conference should come before the GoCB’s report and before the scheduled meeting with the BWU, NUPW tag team.

As usual the cart is going before the horse and yet we expect it to be pulled.

    Interesting times ahead.

    Just Observing

  10. @Fenty

Simple, Barbados forex inflow and outflow is meshed to the US market. Luxembourg does not gave this same dependence.

    @Observing

    Is PM Stuart alive?

  11. For almost fifty years since 1966, Barbados’ challenge has been to transform its entire institutional apparatus from one designed for colonial control and containment, to one relevant to the needs of a sovereign and sustainable society.
    ……………………………………………………………………
And meanwhile during those almost 50 years of colonial legacy, Trinidad and Tobago has taken advantage of our inability to catch up or take control of our own destiny, and as a result, we are all just labourers under the control of our new T&T colonial masters, who owns all of the big businesses in Barbados, and many of the sugar plantations, most of which have been taken out of production of any kind, thus making a mockery of Barbados lip service slogan, ” Buy Bajan” or “Buy Local.”

  12. Fair enough..!

  13. @ David

My comment “getting a laugh from BU” or whatever I said was not meant to put down BU. This is an excellent environment with lots of good discussions and excellent ideas. I was in no way trying to be condescending. Lots of good stuff here guy, lots of good stuff. There are some good jokes here as well.

  14. I agree with your comments SITH
Please note that I did not say new sources of foreign exchange but I talked about other sources.

The government cannot figure out anything. They do not have the competencies. It is sad that in little Barbados we have to depend on one narrow set of people called a Government to dictate our development. I think we have long past that kind of approach –since the 1960s and Errol Barrow as the colossus.

We need to encourage a more broad based approach that employs all the skills and competencies available and not suppress and sacrifice them on the altar of political expediency , political polarization and political partisanship.

  15. @ Mark Fenty

Could you, if you would, Explain details referencing your military dishonorable discharge from the United States Army. That information you know is public record. Right? Could this possibly be linked to your strong dislike for the United States.

  19. @Look

    You have been warned.

  20. @just asking

so why not legalize weed. they did in Colorado. Lets lead the pack on this. That would bring the tourists in. one day it will happen anyway.

  21. Colonel, it’s easy to blame others for our inaction… But let me ask you this question though: where were you with your signs, trying to convince your fellower Barbadian that it wasn’t within his best interest to auction off his island?

  22. It is impossible for us to understand how anybody who knows anything about the US economy can say there are no real problems there. The only things that have been saving the Americans for over a decade were wars of conquest and an ability to print oodles of money that others still accept. Still, bridges are falling apart everywhere, there is political dysfunction at the seat of government, government is incapable of doing anything to help the citizens absent special interests, cities are going bankrupt, others are talking about a crypto-currency to replace the US dollar, defense budgets are being cut, social services benefits are being cut, the country is unable to conduct war without the aide of others, and a host of other maladies.

Even China has had a lowering of their growth rates and has seen the exit of some industries for Bangladesh and elsewhere in search of lower wages. Bad as it is, It is impossible to understand what is happening in Barbados absent the global environment. Gloom and doom is indeed the order of the day in Barbados and its chief trade partners.

  23. @Askquith
We have been reading a lot of subjects for many years and this is the first time we’ve seen an optimistic-pessimistic rating assigned to communism, as you say. Laughably, we wonder why anyone interested in the future would be interested in a dead ideology. We assume that this is the old cheap propaganda when there exist a lack of ‘understanding’ as is so profound in the culture from which you are allowed to exist. People like you would not see largesses to private companies as state sponsored socialism/communism for the wealthy, or the transfer of government funded research to the private sector without charge as state sponsored socialism/communism for the moneyed. And we can go on all day for what people like you call a free market has always been able to exist, from the beginning, only because of state sponsorship of business.

  24. OSA advice might be relevant short term in dealing with economic matters but the hot button issue of dealing with barbados sovereignty he has not addressed,,they are two sides to every coin woe to others to think differently ,,

  25. YEAH LEH WE LEGALISE WEED TO LURE THE TOURISSES IN
    HILARIOUS!
DLP SEND WUNNA PEOPLE STARK RAVING MAD

    RE Is PM Stuart alive?
HE PROBABLY GOT DKA MOST OF THE TIME

  26. @SiTH
You’re obviously off the deep end if you think for once that the legalization of weed, is going to make any meaningful difference in the Barbados tourist industry.

  27. Hi Folks,
I am here in South Sudan reporting on the ongoing conflict for an international news agency.

I just visited BU to catch up on the going ons in BIM and noted that David of BU is still at his misguided attempts to destabalise the Government of Barbados.

I would recommend him for a stint out here in Sudan and sees how he makes out !

  28. Barbados maybe should allow Toronto, Ontario (Canada) Mayor Rob Ford to come in and clean up the mess that neither BLP or DLP are unable to accomplish, Aside FACT that he is a crack cocaine addict, Ford says his record as Mayor speaks for itself. Barbados in the past has tolerated Owen Arthur a known drunk, a crack cocaine addict couldn’t be that much worse.

  29. .Pogie, the DLP is still the party of my grandparents, parents and now myself, irrespective of the effort to stain and tarnish its reputation.

  30. @Fractured BLP

Why not direct your venom at are Reudon Eversley?

  31. @ Fractured BLP

What the heck does South Sudan got to do with David and Barbados. I guess you are in some safe zone surrounded by the UN peace keepers with M16’s in hand. You sound like one of those folk that like to call shots but aren’t firing any. Just shut up for real and hope you alive tonight.

And yes David and BU going shake up the mainstream even if it leads to the downfall of these jokers that found themselves in power in Barbados.

  32. @mark fenty

I am dead serious. it is going to happen at some point. check out the vast number of out of state people buying weed in Colorado. Remember, at some point nobody was allowed to sell alcohol. that went away and now we can buy alcohol in the grocery store.. Being the second dog in a dog sled team makes the scenery pretty boring. When another island does it we will be crying. Make dust or eat dust.

  33. @ Pachamama

We are at the two extremes of realism. Where you are right now I once was, but I evolved based on my personal experience. You are indeed highly intelligent and well versed. You read a lot and connected many dots. I give you that because I went down that road before. However, that mis-guided ideology that you preach at every turn, sounds good in theory but is outdated and has failed human kind. When one sums it up, it ends up being no more than a military dictatorship with the Generals in charge of the treasury resulting in what you described as “state sponsorship of business” for their convenience only.

I enjoy reading your thoughts, but I have categorize you, Bush Tea and Plantation Deeds as the border line anti establishment, dangerous characters in this forum.

Given 20,000 youths with guns in Barbados, you three “villans” would kill a lot of innocent people on the island in the name of slavery and all things historical that is still driving your mentalities. You 3 are very dangerous individuals and I worry sometimes that given the opportunity you 3 will incite social unrest.

I have nothing but love in my heart but I know your type. I was once there but I getting too old for that approach to politics.

  34. @Askquith

Don’t you think your animal farm philosophy is a cop out?

The Barbados government has advised that it will not amend weed laws anytime soon. Maybe under a BLP government we may see a more progressive posture towards this matter.

“@SiTH You’re obviously off the deep end if you think for once that the legalization of weed, is going to make any meaningful difference in the Barbados tourist industry.”

Why are you so cocksure such a strategy will not make any meaningful difference? Are the current advertising and promotion strategies making a real difference?
One thing for sure is that the decriminalization of the use of marijuana will significantly reduce the risks of blotting the character of many young people visiting from Europe and North America for the simple act of using a natural substance given freely to mankind by your omnipotent omniscient god(s) called Elohim.

You should note the use of the word “decriminalization” and NOT “legalization” which implies that both you and I will be forced to use marijuana or else we will be in breach of the law.
Why not see the laws against marijuana in the same light you would see laws supporting slavery and apartheid? Laws that belong to the dustbin of history.

Why not put the smoking of marijuana on the same level as you do the smoking of cigarettes or the consumption of alcohol in public places?
In that case, we will be ‘dealing’ on a level playing field to see which plant will survive as the drug of choice among the young. Will it be marijuana, tobacco or the host of other plants like the grape, barley, rye or potato that produce alcohol from fermentation processes?

  36. Thank God that I’ve never voted for the BLP, even though I’ve had many opportunities to do so. But as someone who was born and bred in the lower classes of Barbados. I’ve never felt that the BLP truly represented the needs, concerns and interest of the lower classes. Except during election time, when the minister who represented Bank Hall, Bush Hall, Station Hill, Dean Village and Waterford etc paid for our votes with liquid cash.

  37. Isn’t it a nonsense how Barbadians (maybe West Indies) defy intelligence by distilling every argument based on political poppycock. Why bother to have a brain some may ask.

Askquith | 05/01/2014 at 3:45 pm |@ We are sitting in shit and some one made the shit and lie to us and we sat in the shit ,
Now we have to find who put the shit there , and we did ,
We had to find out who shit it belong to
we had to find out who drop the shit and we did find out
we had to know is the shit smells and i does
now they want us to eat that same shit and we will not
BLP shit and DLP walk in all our home with it before clean their feet.
Now the people want to know who shit and why all this shit is happening.

So now we asked the BLP and the DLP and refuse to reply/
So we went looking and we found answers that no one can dispute with out dragging in the ass where all the shit came from

It a MASSIVE LAND FRAUD , PUT UPON NOT just the Bajan but all who bought land here and paid with money from other countries
This was the exchange that Barbados lived on , Selling odd land none of them owned to people from other countries that trust the land rules laid down in most of the English speaking World
Now that Violet Beckles is gone and we are the one in charge to clean up this mess, The Police looked at 90%of what we have and agree and made no moves
Former COP Dottin is the main man and his DPP and AG who refuse to move after PM DAVID DIED,
BARBADOS can not run on a Madoff and Standford POTZI TYPE OF government ,they both in JAIL .
As the crooks liars and scumbags still out there selling and running the government .
\Now these same crooks did not know other will run against them , so they went out buying votes , with proof and no one charge in court nor no recall of Elections for the crooks with more money ran
Keep in mind it did not matter to use for now we have a Unity government of the NEW DBLP ,
DO your home work Sir,, If we are wrong please help to know the truth and reblog ,, We have to have to truth to fix Barbados , we are not part of the problem , remember most go to church and still Chuse to lie.
The money we seek to find and to take loan on is already here in the BANK accounts of the crooks ,
We have our own National Treasure that need to be taken back ,
We see the World problem not a problem , We have what we need , Just need the true to be told.
If charged the right way 60% of government will be in Jail.
SO my good man they have to work together and better not call Elections , Both side will loose if we gain 2 to 4 seats ,

  39. @ David

“Don’t you think your animal farm philosophy is a cop out?”

I am disappointed at this question. Very disappointed. My “existence in this society” as Pachamama described it, entails hard work and requires discipline. The problem with Pachamama, Bushie and Deeds is that what they preach they don’t live. Ask AC!!! She calls them on it all the time. They are capitalists just like me, They look for a profit in any situation but wish for power rather than earn it.

“Animal Farm Philosophy”? . Put these 3 in charge and like the pig they will be at a loss, more so than the current MoF. I am not copping out I am being realistic. One thing David that you will never get from me is rhetoric just for rhetoric sake.

I hope that the legalize marijuana bit was not directed at me. I made comments on that before. Decimalization I am for because it does not make sense to me to give a man with children to feed 6 months in Dodds for a spliff. But to legalize it that is not as simple as it sounds. Do not tie me up with that. Be careful for what we are wishing for here.

  40. @ Miller
Do you trust the sciemtific evidence that clearly shows that the abuse of Marijuana kills brain cells? Marijuana, is by all intents and purposes an addictive substance brother. Have you noticed that more than haft of the rastamen in Barbados now walks around like Vombies? That is what is known as motor skill impairment brother!

“We have our own National Treasure that needs to be taken back” These are DEEDS own words, These subtle little phrases expose you 3. You 3 are dangerous. You want to get your hands on the Treasury but you not mentioning that you also plan to keep it for yourselves and a small military unit.

THAT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF, ALVIN CUMMINS AND MARK FENTY( even though we disagree on much) ARE NOT GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN.

  45. @ac

    You seem to know.

@Askquith@ You must not love truth when the government lies,Do you want to live a lie , We not looking for no one money , We looking for Justice and if that brings money for the Bajans and save them what little they make so be it , These crooks will over tax and over VAT the people to their grave,
I never have to work another days in my Life for no ones money , We have and we make , Very Rich and Wealthy family and will love to share the rest of the money funds being held with Bajans ,
Like this , We can build a new Hospital no funds from the tax payer nor government to get kick backs , ,, Back to free UWI, Free school for all,
Better housing base on what people make and not bank rates, All tools needed so no one have to fly to TNT or the USofA ,Our own Airline , new airport in St Lucia,
We can pay all of this and get the rents and the VAT not being paid by the lawyers not recorded at inland rev
Remember in Slavery everyone had a JOB and in Freedumb no one can find WORK.
That is where the first part of the money will go , VAT removed and we will pay and support what ever the fund allow .

Observing; Re your 1.30 pm post.

The Sunday Nation reports that the Chris Sinckler press conference will be hours after the GoCB hosts a Luncheon Meeting with the Private Sector partners. Presumably there is time between the two meetings for the MoF to let the Unions know where they currently stand and promise to get back to them on any new points they might raise..

Just a very busy day for the MoF.

Wonder when the PM will have a say on the economy. Nah! the last minute has not yet come for his intervention.

Wonder if the rumours about an imminent shift in the Minister of Finance will feature in any of these meetings.

The blogmaster invites you to join the discussion.
