LIME Introduces Caribsurf Emailers to Googlemail

Submitted by St.George’s Dragon

LIMELime appears to have made a botch of the transfer of their email system over to Googlemail. All users were mean to be transferred over to Googlemail as of 16th September (today) but everyone I talk to says their email is down.

Can anyone enlighten us as to what is happening and the extent of the problem?

  • Hmmmmm. I don’t know if there was a problem that is now resolved but mine is working just fine. Did you amend your password as was suggested before the transition?

  • I don’t know what the transfer entails, whether you maintain the same email addresses or they would be changed to e.g bloggs.fred@gmail.com.

If you have a reasonable number of people you would have to inform of a change of email address, you could sign up to gmail yourself. This of course would mean changing your details for companies and groups that need it.

I use my providers email service for 2 email addresses for myself and 1 for a daughter. I also have a gmail address and all are very active on a daily basis with anything up to a thousand emails in on any given day in at least 100 folders.

  • You better check your 100 folders of 1000 emails. For the past month LIME has been sending many emails outlining what you had to do over the past few weeks to make the transition. 1st – change your password to a google “friendly” one (in my case it was a more complex one). And secondly, change your server address in your mail program when they made the change.

  • I received messages from lime which indicated what was required. I have still maintained the @caribsurf.com e-mail address and my password met the google requirements. I just went to my lime on the time4lime page and attempted to log in. I was given a link which allowed me to insert my username@caribsurf.com and password. Following this the google terms and conditions popped up, I accepted and was redirected to my caribsurf inbox.

Better you take your problem up with Lime or Microsoft.

I don’t use Caribsurf much these days but I thought that I had migrated successfully several weeks ago – webmail was working fine, I could access all my old emails.

Seeing this new blog I tried the webmail that had worked even if clunkily over the past several weeks. Could’nt get in. Then I saw your post, tried your recommendations and they worked flawlessly except that now I can’t access my old emails.

Wonder why Lime couldn’t get a migration system like Hotmail. It’s migration to Outlook worked flawlessly with no problem with very old mail

    BAFBFP;
I can understand your frustration. If you find out how to get the Old caribsurf mail that was in the system up to yesterday please let us know. I would hate to think that some of my old old emails are irretrievably lost..

I followed the instructions that Lime issued, I thought, to the letter.
Prior to the change, I checked my password against the requirements – it was ok, so left it the same. Yesterday, I logged on to the webmail page, agreed to the conditions, and can see my emails on webmail.
My problem was with Outlook. I changed the settings in accordance with the Lime instructions but kept getting a network password error message whenever the programme tried to connect to the pop server. After over 2 hours talking to a Lime representative on-line I still could not get emails to download into Outlook.
By chance, I found the solution last night. I had left my user name unchanged in Outlook. It turns out that this has to be your complete email address. No idea why. It worked ok before.
Meanwhile the entire office system is still down, which these days means output is seriously compromised

The Lime rep should be fired …! But now you are onto the second part of the problem. Outlook 2007 will download your mail, but leave the originals still on the gmail server, so in essence you could download the SAME mail an indefinite amount of times.

What is even worse is the WordPress forming the ass too ..!

  • I was out of the island until the weekend. I saw the LIME prompt on Saturday but didn’t have time to change it. By Sunday the opportunity was apparently gone. I tried to log on the my webmail account and was told I could not use those characters, so was unable to do anything to change the password. Spent 45 minutes with a young lady at the LIME office at Sheraton yesterday and was told “all is okay, we have changed your password”. Got back to the office and it was the same old, same old. Still no mail, and having to use a different address just to stay in touch. This is a serious thing for a business. David, I’m going to try your link.

Just got out of the offices of Lime … mek my usual noise, and result was an “assurance” that all will be well by tomorrow. They are aware of the problem of not having access to old emails and contacts and are presently addressing this.

Now with the greatest of restraint, do you not think that at the very least they could have communicated this to the public via electronic or print? … And where else in the world would a major corporation attempt a dead drop technological shift without implementing a parallel phase to iron out the kinks at no expense to the customers .. huh?

Looks as if Lime is actually doing something to retrieve the older emails.

I just logged in to my new caribsurf webmail account and behold ALL my mail was there, not only the ones since yesterday’s migration to google. The only problem now for me is that I can’t find an arrow key that instantly goes to the earliest emails or one that sorts the emails so finding specific emails is a chore.

I did nothing whatever, just logged in just like yesterday, so it seems to be getting better.

Whew! I thought all those old caribsurf emails were lost.

I did and continued to gain access today when I got the notice above.I’ll try again tomorrow.Thanks.

  • LIME has a paid ad in today’s newspaper.

There was a glitch which delayed the transfer of old accounts which, according to them, has been rectified.

Should have been done ages ago. Hope they have at the very least apologized. I told them that a few of us are gearing up to land their asses in Court …! (Idled threat of course as our custom here is to be familiar with the tenet “justice delayed is justice denied” ..!)

I noticed that my contacts had not been imported last night but I haven’t done anything about it yet. I did however import my wife’s contacts into her new webmail account on the day the migration occurred, minus old mail. What I did then was search for contact files on her computer. I found one, converted it into a csv file and then imported it into webmail. It worked fine

  • You see ne Gabriel, I is mek a nuisance of myself. I went down to the head office and invoked “Stand Your Ground” … and was taken to a mature guy who returned from retirement (a huge guy with a massive voice) to do the public’s bidding. His office is behind the security desk. Man the man call some people den … and mek some real noise. He get hot and tell the people on the other end of the phone to stop using him as a messenger a to talk to me directly … I mean the good gentleman drop some serious words in the staff … and told them that if they had any real respect for the public they would have had an apology placed in an advertisement in the press a long time ago. This man is employed by LIME, believe it or not, and he is for real. The whole thing took about half an hour. When I got home, the email was where I expected it to be. I do not know this man’s name, but if you should decide to pay him a visit, please convey my heartfelt thanks for his intervention.

  • For those who use Outlook, Outlook Express, etc. and can access that client.
See David’s post on 17 Sep at 4:47 a.m. – click the link.
In 1. Get Started: click “Set up your desktop mail client”.
Open your email client (Outlook, etc) ,follow the details.
You may need to write the details in long hand unless you can have both windows open at the same time.

I just completed my set up and all the old emails were there.

New emails continue to be delivered to LIME’s MyWebMail (Google) in addition to the Outlook Caribsurf setup. This means we can all continue to access email from anywhere on any computer.
