Many reasons exist why Barbadians today need to “VOTE BLP” in the next general election soon to come.  The current DLP is “slowly killing Barbados” from top to bottom and we cannot survive another term of inaction on key national challenges.  The DLP simply (1) lack innovative thinking and know-how in key leadership positions, (2) simply lack a fiscal and economic vision for Barbados at this critical time, (3) simply lack the inability to reduce spending and grow national revenues, (4) simply lack effective leadership and governance coming from the PM daily and other key government ministers, just to mention a few key shortcoming.

Our current PM remains “MISSING IN ACTION” on key issues facing Barbados and refuses to speak to the Bajan people, and when he does speak pure non-sense comes out, then he disappears again to read “PLATO” under a guava tree, while Bajan families are struggling “DAILY”.

So let’s BU take a walk back down history lane …. 2007 was the year … and let me tell you a few reasons why “THE BLP is BEST for Barbados at this CRITICAL time in our national history”. “ The BLP has RESCUED, REBUILT, and RESTORED Barbados before and WE CAN AND WILL DO IT AGAIN”

JOBS: In 1994 more than 32, 000 of the 132,000 work force could not find jobs. This included 17,000 of the 64,200 females in the labour force.  The BLP back then changed the state of the game with innovative thinking and hard work that spurred investor confidence, leading to the creation of more than 30,500 jobs — as promised.

FOREIGN RESERVES: Foreign reserves were $2.2 billion, Enough to cover imports for 35 weeks. and our dollar is WAS secured.

GOVERNEMNT POLICIES: BLP’s policies led to sustained growth in the tourism and services sectors, which in turn generated significant foreign exchange.

ATTRACTING FOREIGN INVESTMENT: In 1993 the BLP attracted overall investment in Barbados was $419.8 million.

INCOME TAXES: Since 2003, 26,000 persons no longer pay Income.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION: Former UN Secretary General Dr. Kofi Annan described Barbados as a nation punching above its weight.
POVERTY: In 2007, the United Nations declared Barbados the number one developing country in eradicating Poverty.

TAX RATES: Small business tax rate reduced from 25% to 15%.

EXPORTS: Domestic exports from the manufacturing sector jumped 49.2 %: from $329.4 million in 2003 to $491.6 in 2006.

DEPOSITS: In 1993, total deposits $1.9 billion In 2003 total deposits $ 7.3 billion

LOCAL INVESTORS: Local investors, brimming with renewed confidence in the economy, injected millions in housing development; the upgrade of physical plant in the distributive and retail sectors.

NIS: Increased the NIS contribution rate by one per cent of insurable earnings each year for four years, shared equally by employee and employer. The NIS retirement age for unreduced pension was raised by six months every four years, starting in 2006 until age 67 is reached in the year 2018. Flexible NIS retirement ages were introduced so that in due course persons may retire on an NIS pension at any age from 60 to 70 years. These changes have resulted in an improved NIS scheme that will ensure that all Barbadians have access to its many benefits when they do retire.

LOANS: BLP provided 319 persons with $3 million in loans for projects ranging from retailing and food services to cosmetology and craft under the Urban Enterprise Loan Fund.

GOVERNMENT SUPPORT: BLP subsidized the purchase of house lots where the tenant paid $2.50 per square foot while the landlord was given free market price. It is expected that in total over 5000 households will benefit.

YOUTH TRAINING: 10,474 persons benefited from programmes to train youth in leadership, information technology, marketing and accounting.

TOURISM: The Tourism Development Act has facilitated more than $2 billion in actual new investment, with a further $4 billion pledged.

In closing:
Now I know the “KOOLAID”  and “EVERYTHING IS OK” propaganda the DLP is serving Bajans is real sweet and blames everything on the global recession. However what the current DLP “CANNOT” blame on the global recession as I have said is the: (1) lack innovative thinking and know-how in key leadership positions, (2) lack a fiscal and economic vision for Barbados at this critical time, (3) lack the inability to reduce spending and grow national revenues, (4) lack effective leadership and governance coming from the PM daily and other key government ministers, just again to mention a few key shortcomings.

  1. DONT you know that right now I am moved to tears ??

WOULD you believe that the situation with the children at Alexandra School and the ‘effects ‘ on these young minds who are the men and women of tomorrow has moved me to tears ??
DONT you know that I truly feel for these children who have done nothing wrong but who are being punished by a hard and inflexible group of teachers who could easily put the children’s welfare first and end this foolishness now ???

DONT you know that I do not even want to get political in this matter and blame the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education or any DLP Government even though they would have to take some responsibilty but that my main concern is with this hard and inflexible group of people who call themselves teachers ????

DONT these people some of them who are Antiguans and not born in Barbados and who are non Barbadians not have the interest of the nation of Barbados and its development at heart ???

DONT you know that if you wanted to score political points against the DLP , you have done so and you should now get back to work Mary Redman , you and your band of hooligans ??

DONT you know that I hold no brief for the Prime Minister ??
BUT why should the man be blamed for this nonsense that is not of his making initially ??
DO you tthink it is fair to him ???

DO you want to know how I feel about Mary Redman and her band of HOOLIGANS who are calling themselves teachers ?

    JUST ASKING

  2. I hold no brief for Mary Redman and her band of hooligans but Fruendel Struart strode in declaring he will resolves the issue and now out of the blue he realises he don’t know what to do and appoints a commission to come up with a solutions. I think the time for Frauddel, oopps I mean Fruendel to go is now. Resign Mr. Prime Mister and let someone who can do the job do it.

  3. Austin, the dummy in your argument is that you can’t reasonably compare by using economic indicators from the boom period of the BLP with now. What we have to discern is to what extent the government has implemented policies in the current economic environment which have exacerbated the situation. For example where have they not effectively cut expenditures, where could we have grown revenues? What social polices are adequate as a safety net to protect the most vulnerable etc.

  4. @David

the boom period for Barbados just did not happen automatically ……. there was enough BLP talent and wisdom in the senior ranks of government to make policy decisions that facilited that boom period …..

My comparision is one of WILL at the core …. having the WILL to develop a way forward for your nation vs the wait and see game the DLP is playing … it suck to sit back an watch …

My comparision is about DRIVE, and ENGAGIN the fight to save bajan families coast to coast from struggling every day …

I am not a rich man …. quite the opposite ….

what I am is a BAJAN PATRIOT ….

And the BAJAN PATRIOT knows like many that our current DLP government is under performing at a critical time and MUST go …

So we can get to the business of RESCUING and REBUILDING our beloved Barbados.

  5. @Austin

The litmus test for your last comment is for you to name countries in the region which did not grow GDP in the boom years.

I see you still trying wid Austin. Good luck. He still hasn’t given me a good reason to vote BLP based on their record of pulling themselves out of economic challenges the magnitude of what we’re currently facing worldwide….I know why the DLP have issues, but a non vote for the DLP should not automatically equate to a vote for the BLP. Persuade me Austin, this is one vote in a swing constituency talking 🙂

Wonderful submission once more…..After yesterday’s pernicious peddling by Cydoimus..it’s only a matter of time now….The die is cast and the wilderness beyond….Of all my wildest expectations I would have never believed the Office would fall to such phantasmagoria… and at the expense of those believing teachers, parents and young students of a “much” promised solution…..IT’S A SHAME… Assurance of a step wise solution via Phases was assured.. only to be exiled by “I miles ahead” ….

They will now never be able to present Cydoimus as their leader come election for fear of doing the one step forward- 2 step back dance…..we have reason to laugh this morning…..laugh-a-bull Fa real.

  9. @ Observing ( and questioning)
I know what you mean:”a non vote for the DIP should not automaticall equate to a vote for the BLP”. However, what’s the alternative? Not voting at all?
Somehow, I see voting as my civic duty. Not voting, to me means, that I should keep quiet, that I did not make a contribution to the governing of my country. I am struggling with this because right now I am very frustrated and disillusioned with both parties.

Are you serious? Do you even take the time to read and understand? What of what I said makes you think that I think it’s great to be, as you put it, in limbo?
Great attitude; are you a spokesperson for the BLP?

Ha, ha, your reaction is GREAT, really engaging the youth, ha, ha. And recruiting young people. Lot a hogwash talk……..
But not even a sensible answer to a sensible question. Whuloss.

  19. @DavidAll

Sometimes in Barbados we are so smart and academic as a people that “common sense” just escapes us.

DLP supporters you keep fighting to support a PM who won’t even talk to the public or face national challenges which is obvious to ALL (based on BLIND DLP partisanship).

And we “Bajan Patriots” will continue to fight for what is best for bajan families.

Past Performance can be an indicator of future performance to that I have given you a few BLP past accomplishments in this submission, but the questions for questions sake still continue ….

You tell me why we as a nation should sit under the gauva tree listening the a PM read plato … waiting for a “Tsunami to hit us.

  21. Not a chance … too much at stake for bajan poor people and families ….

This is real fun!!!! And providing ideas for my paper.
You think that the likes of you “old onion farts” have done so well, where politics are concerned? You’ve made a blasted mess of things, and that is our heritage, what you’re leaving for us young people?
Stuuuuupse. You might be better of opening your “old onion ears” and listen to what young sexy ones have to say about politrics.
Bet your old onion fart ass that I’m able to vote.

  27. @Austin

Have tried to ask some questions from the perspective of an independent who remains cynical about the kind of politics being practiced in the last 20 years in Barbados. You are using a sterile argument which although appealing to party members will not convince many who even if they have to vote BLP will do so holding their noses.

    The two things dont square.

Thanks Austin, I was beginning to wonder wha going on here.
Do these people realize that young people do talk about politics? Do they realize that we NEED to get involved, to clean up the mess that has been created by them?
Do they realize that we are sick and tired of the partisan politics? It is sickening! We have to make our future here on this rock.
We would welcome a new way of doing things: focused on the good of Barbados and not individula pockets.
But if onions is an example of the thinking in the BLP, yeeez….
Hopefully he’s just an old yardfowl.

  32. Listen ….. If you view my submissions as begging for votes, you have the right and we will take the votes 🙂 … however I do not view it as begging nor it is not my intention to beg for votes …..

What I am “DOING” is making people aware of how dangerous another DLP term will be to our democracy ….

I want people to check the FACTS and know the TRUTH about our critical state of affairs as a nation ….

The current DLP is wrong to want to blame everything on the global recession and have been pushing that as a reason to sit on their hands for years now ..

The current DLP “CANNOT” blame on the global recession as I have said is the: (1) lack innovative thinking and know-how in key leadership positions, (2) lack a fiscal and economic vision for Barbados at this critical time, (3) lack the inability to reduce spending and grow national revenues, and (4) lack effective leadership and governance coming from the PM daily and other key government ministers, just again to mention a few key shortcomings AGAIN.

The Barbados Labour Party is a bunch of crooks. When you seek to have Bajans vote Alibaba and the Forty thieves back into office you are asking that we put the rats in charge of the cheese.

    That sounds sensible to you?

  36. INDEPENDENT
You said “I am struggling with this because right now I am very frustrated and disillusioned with both parties.” I have no problem with you being dissillusion. However, you should look at the performance of this present regime based on procrastinations, functions and speeches in relation to actual performance. Also, you would have experienced the last regime since you sound like a person over ten years. You can go further and ask your parents about providing for the family today against the outlandish prices being offered today. You will hear the cry of your parents regarding increases in road tax, VAT, electricity, telephone, water, fuel, land tax, groceries etc, etc. The worst thing is our salaries still remains the same, As a matter of fact, people are seeing a reduction in allowances. Forget the 2,000 who received free houses, yet the vulnerable are still homeless and others with homes falling in on them. Forget the Free bus rides for children which is now putting a further financial dent in the Transport Board finances. Remember, the Transport Board always in the red and the biggest financial intake was from the same school children. Now lay on your back, look to the skies and ask yourself…..”ARE WE BETTER OFF TODAY? Please let your civil duty be your guide in making Barbados a better place to live.

CARSON you said “You remind me of a phonograph that is stuck”.
Because you are the recipient don’t blame others. Lo!!!!

    Peace

  37. @Young Independent

You are the future of Barbados no matter what old heads like me and CCC say …..

So “Be” a “BAJAN PATRIOT” and always speak on what you feel is best for Barbados, and stay engaged.

And be prepared to take some “hits in support of poor people” and to hear “totally ignorance” like what is coming from CCC this morning …

  38. i mean “providing for the family YESTERYEAR”

  39. The problem is that none of the parties are bringing anything fresh and innovative to the electorate. I am borrowing a phrase from Sargeant that I may have to “Hold my nose and vote” for the BLP or refuse to vote at all. We are in a conundrum. I do hope that those of you who support the BLP do not support them blindly like how Carson Cadogan and others who support the DLP.

    @ Tell me Why

Thank you for your response and taking me seriously. I know that life is alot harder now for our family than 10 years ago. It’s harder for me too because I work during holidays to get some extra money.
Don’t forget we are studying hard to have a reasonably good future. But the way things are now……..especially with uemployment. There are young graduates out there who can’t get a decent job.
Young couples can’t even think about buying a piece of land let alone a house. Thank God rents have come down somewhat.
But to me, blaming the BLP or the DLP doesn’t make any sense, what I want to hear is : Where are we going from here, what plan or economic measures will take us EVENTUALLY out of where we are now.
I realize that things can’t change overnight, but……..we have to see that we are working towards some improvements.!!
My friends and I would love to hear a political leader who can inspire us. Not the same old blame game played by Arthur or Stuart. Mia Mottley is the only one who we have remotely heard use some other language.
The party which can come with a well laid plan, not empty promises, I would like to listen to. To hear how they see the way forward for Barbados. Stop blaming each other for everything: Look to the future.

    I”ll try again

” have given you a few BLP past accomplishments in this submission”

Can you indicate which of those accomplishments took place under similar and prolonged economic and global challenges as those which we are facing now? Or better yet, can you elucidate what the BLP would or could have done as opposed to what the DLP did that would have made things even marginally better??

You are better arguing from a leadership/teamwork point of view rather than economic and performance. Just observing

  46. @islandgal246

“The problem is that none of the parties are bringing anything fresh and innovative to the electorate.”

Not exactly correct …. for example the BLP Candidate for St.George South Dwight Sutherland represents “new, fresh blood to the BLP ranks”. Dwight does not have the typical lawyer background (which is an issue in itself) … and has been working in the SGS community for years just because he loves and respects his SGS roots and community ….
