Who Ever Said Silence Is Golden?

“How long is too long…. if it’s good?” We have been on wait on some matters for too long. For instance, when will there be a Stage II in the seemingly never ending saga of the Alexandra matter?… the wait is too long. When will there be a new appointment of Governor General?…the wait… too long. What about the LIME settlement….we were told only this weekend to standby for news…the wait …too long. What about commentary, even a reaction or even indication of a reading of, the Judicial Report on the CLICO matter? …again…the wait too long. How about General Elections… for some again …..the wait too long.

Call it a waiting game…..wait and wait some more

When will we hear on this LIME matter…….we were promised by this weekend ? Probably yet another foulup or bleep or blunder….but lets give the benefit of the doubt.
But that aint all, we now hear of a pending strike at Barbados Community College….like I said when the captain shakey …..even the mice does try something on his shift…..wonder who is next……the nurses ?

  3. Has anyone ever officially stated that we are going through a period of wage “restraint” in the public sector???? 2 years have gone, time for another round and yet…….nothing….. bare in mind, if a “freeze” is necessary to keep things afloat then so be it, but, I’m trying to recall if it was ever made an officially stated “policy.”

  4. @ Observing
These MF’s just holding on ..all out to reach elections ( which they wish would go away)….balancing a hand to mouth budget..barely gettin thru..they also borrowing money from NIS to pay a certain statutory corp. salaries some months..so bruddsbabes…don’t hold ya breath.

  5. @ ac

One thing that I can assure you based on history and good old common sense is that my confidence level will tend to go up with some one who has been there and done that. Put another way, I am more likely to want to invest in Barbados if I know the person managing the economy has a good record of doing such including creating the environment in which there were higher levels of spending and saving in the economy including the fact that many more persons were employed due to various creative tools being used. So you really want to know what Owen Arthur and the Bees can do differently? By the history of their achievements, and by dint of their commitment innovative frameworks they will inspire hope and build confidence. The DEMS have done the absoloute opposite. With no apology, I say to hell with all of DEM!

  6. @ George
OAS also had a history of borrowing and selling ! can you explain that ! most of which has caused barbados to be in the financial mess that it is having you know whatever one borrows it must be paid back how come the bees never talk about that part of history it is as if the BLP under OSA had inherited this great wealth needless to say what barbados did inherited was great debt left by BEES and which must be paid by the taxpayers

  7. @ ac

I was not going to respond to you on this matter again since I have realised that your tainted lenses will always see cloudy. However, I think we should set the record straight my friend.
The BLP did borrow; however, one would realise that the debt accumulated under the DEMS in 4 years far surpasses the ratio and numerical sums undertaken by the Bees in 14 years. But that is not the critical point. More important, is that the Bees borrowed to enhance the economic infrastructure to the point of raising levels of competitiveness and building out the productive sectors in the economy. On the other hand, the debt incurred on the Dems side speaks of entitlements, payment of wages and salaries, and several start-stop intiatives that fail to get past ground zero.
So what did the BLP leave the country? Unemployment at less than 7 %; foreign reserves in excess of 2 billion; and a climate that attracted local and foreign investments despite all reforms were not completed.
Can you imagine the Dems raising your water rate by 60 % after ensuring that you already paid substantially more for diesel the main fuel pusing myriad industries; all of this done while receiving over 70 million Barbados dollars to restructure the very BWA? Talk about a caring government, the DEMS of today are representative of everything that Errol Barrow publicly opposed, although one is left to wonder what happened in secret since he also gave us David Thompson who thanked the people of Barbados by saying “anything for CLICO and Parris.” Note, this is not about speaking ill of the dead, but it is about placing the national interests before families and friends who are only bent on feasting on the fatted calf. I wish you well ‘ac’ but I also hope that you come to see clearly before it is too late. Another term of the DLP is bad for Barbados; we are already being scoffed at in the region and internationally. Good luck and hoping that you come around to realising that the only thing the Dems have created in the last 4 years is hardship on top of hardship.

  8. So George if under the best economic times in the OSA era they had to borrow. What then do you suppose the DLP should do. Not pay the wages of those the govt hired or do you as so many in the BLP has hinted let go of many of the public workers and how about the social programs what then should be done let those who are already unemployed go hungry and how about the programs which under the BLP were uncompleted like infrastructure let them remain unfinished, yes in order to do all of the above money had to be borrowed because it is evident that the 2billion was not enough to run an economy . therefore my friend keep harping about past good performance of the DLP is only a constant reminder of the many failures which has brought on this financial mess. my lens might be foggy but my mind is not blurred.

  9. @ ac
You call that a retort to George ? What a WEAK gusto of nothing ……If position be the art of gunnery,George seems to have ran you under the bed.His truth and logic have you overwhelmed, thats the problem….you are left search for words…….as you cannot beat the TRUTH.
What a shot down @ 12.02 AM….lol .v. 5.00 AM ..you should have remained in bed.

  10. @George C Bratwaite . At April 11, 2012 at 12:02 AM
” We are already being scoffed at in the region and internationally ” .
I try my best to avoid naked political debate on this blog but as an unrepentant nationalist must ask you to move away from vague, loose generalisations and state emphatically IN WHICH REGION and WHERE INTERNATIONALLY HAS BARBADOS BEEN ” SCOFFED AT ” . I eagerly await your response for my own enlightenment . Peace .

  11. @ George C Brathwaite .
It should also help considerably if you would state BY WHOM IN THE REGION and BY WHOM INTERNATIONALLY . Over to you …

  12. Ac…. hardly has anything worthwhile to say anyhow….she just rants like a DLP puppet. As Onions says….the ideal candidate for the wilderness…

  13. @ an Observer
But I thought you told me ….that you don’t get in these political salvo’s my friend…..seems like the season has brought you out of hidings…..I will search for a piece of Shakespare for you…gimme a moment ..lol

  14. And since the quarrel
Will bear no color for the thing he is,
Fashion it thus: that what he is, augmented,
    Would run to these and these extremities;
And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg,
Which, hatch’d, would as his kind grow mischievous,
And kill him in the shell

  15. @ Old onion bags .
I restated that position ABOVE . This is enlightenment being sought as a NATIONALIST…A BARBADIAN PATRIOT…..LIKE YOU ……Certainly I am
entitled to such , even though the partisan political exchanges provide no real attraction . How do you like that response ? LOL..LOL .
    But be warned :
It is the bright day that bringeth forth the adder
And that craves wary walking .
    Peace my friend.

OAS also had a history of borrowing and selling !
Interesting you would make such a statement at a time when Heywoods, once owned by the government of Barbados and sold by then administration, is facing closure.

  22. West Indies in bind at this monment..that suprise declaration really put them off guard….Aussies strategist Pointin knows his kangaroos

  23. West Indies continue their losing ways.

We will hear how much they improved, how close it was and all the other platitudes and bs to mask the loss.

    Losing sucks.

  24. Hants; The match was competitive. A far cry from WI exploits in the not so distant past. The team is on the right trajectory at present.

    onions,

Who can believe this government is for real? With the estimates showing a deficit of nearly ONE BILLION DOLLARS, this inept government could spend thousands of dollars to bring home Erskine Sandiford from China for a swearing in ceremony of 120 new citizens.

How were these people chosen to attend? My friend recently got his citizenship and he was not invited. Were these the ones that “ever so welcomed” waited for their call? Would you believe that right after the swearing in, they all descended on the Electoral Office to get their ID cards forcing the officers to work over time?

What was the reason for this wastage at this time? This government is becoming overbearing with the foolishness they are doing. A friend of mine attended one of the Illaro Court receptions recently and she said to me that food was in abundance and the “big mouth” drinks flowed like water and then on top it all, all the tourists were given a gift bag and the leftovers were given to the Bajans. Could not the leftover gift bags be saved for the next one?

And to think we have apologists like ac, on this blog everyday talking nonsense about wastage under the BLP. At least the BLP had something to show for the money they spent! I am getting really annoyed when I think of how hard things are in this country, utility bills are sky high, food prices have gone through the roof, people cannot find jobs and this government spending money like there is no tomorrow.

Or is this deliberate so that the BLP will have its work cut out to restore and rebuild this country?

  26. My Lord how many Guyanese get citizenship? What isin this for Bajans? Asyourselsf if you are on the right path. So So different a story its hard to get to the bottom of it. All this hullabaloo at whose expense. Who gine get de jobs that Bajans supposed to be getting? I wondering if there is fair exchange for favours or better said entitlements. A120 National Honours in the name of Barbados. Voting bust.

  27. As we all dun know……that fiasco.”DLP Votes Inaugurated”…exposes the ineptitude at large….who better to overseer but …The Grand Master …even if were on Timbuktu.. had to be flown in, rest assured
Nonsense will continue as ideas are few…..pursue any outstanding taxes but spend it “wisely.”.as usual. on parties and travesties…. in these last days…..the follies will flow..rest assured….”festinatione ad dissipabit”… for everyone must be able to read …

  28. I mentioned on another thread that as soon as the inauguration was over, they all descended on the Electoral Office to register to get their ID’s. Now tell me if this was not political. A friend of mine recently got his citizenship and he was not invited. So I wonder how were these selected.

Ever so welcome, wait for a call. By the way, dooes anyone ever heard how much the press conference David Thompson held in Guyana cost?
