Unbelievable!  But True.

Last night, March 18th, 2010 – during debate under the Head – “Culture,” Leader of Government Business made the charge that none of the elements of the Value Added Tax, conceptualize by the DLP but implemented by the BLP was changed. The Leader of the Opposition, Ms Mottley, immediately challenged the statement.  In response, Minister Sinckler denied using the word: “NONE,” while Chairman of Committee – James Paul said he did not hear Minister Sinckler use the word: “NONE”

Is “Somebody” telling lies?

If so, it is definitely not the Leader of the Opposition of Barbados – The Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Q.C., M. P.  I now invite you to listen to the attached audio extract and come to your own conclusion.  Two persons shouted the word: “NONE!” Perhaps the Attorney General of Barbados – Mr. Stuart – can say who the other person is?

For the purpose of accountability, natural justice and maintaining the integrity of our Parliament, Miss Mottley requested a transcript of the incident, which up until the time of the writing of this script, had not been placed before the Chamber. The question is Why???  Is this the DLP’s style of good governance, accountability and freedom of information?

  1. I am a supporter of the DLP but I’m not one to hide behind their faults. I heard the speech and it is a shame to the parliament when the chairman can blatantly say he didn’t hear the remark make. All that he had to do was ask for the remarks to be withdrawn. It certainly was a dark night in the house and positive points for Mia and her party. Please don’t allow this to be repeated again.

  2. Who gives a shit what was said Scout! I was one who would have liked to see Mia tell the blasted truth for a change! instead of falter at every step! Why couldn,t Mia admit that she would give her resignation with immediate effect and dont want a cent from the taxpayer since she rob us of so much! She should be saying i want none of the money SIR! NONE!

You said:- ………………… “Who gives a shit what was said Scout!”

With reference to the above statement, I’m afraid to say, Sir, it is people like you who are encouraging this regime to take this country on a rapid slide to hell!

  4. rapid slide to hell? Threat To Our Democracy?

An obvious and embarrassing error on the part of the Chairman in his first stint in the Chair.

But no need to overreact and be all melodramatic about it. It can hardly be said to be a pattern of calculated, malicious behaviour on the Chairman’s part. No need to cry murder … not yet anyway. There may time for that in the future if a pattern develops, but why is everything about Ms Mottley so ‘hurry-hurry’ and alarmist?!

  5. What a non issue!

Bush Tea, you are so right a waste of time.

Her fear is not the Chairman but it is the impendig revesal of her position as leader of the opposition, she is a verry, very poor leader of men and less of women.

  8. Indeed a non issue. An James Paul did not err in his first response to Mottley

    What Sinkcler said….
now the honourable member for st micheal north east should point out to us which part of the value added tax, that was develop under the dlp that the blp change when they got into office? “None”

    Mia said:
The honourable member is misleading the chamber.
    she continues…..
The honourable member “indicated” that there was none no part of the value added tax…. no no he answered it he use the word “none”

    James Paul said to Mia…..
    “I did not hear that”

Where James Paul err is in response to Mia second question.

    Mia said…
You didn’t hear the word “none”

    James Paul said….
“no I did not hear that.”

    lol!

  9. We have to be fair, the fact the BLP is challenging the DLP on the blogs makes for interesting times.

What did Hansard record? Didn’t Paul have that option?

  10. Flying Fish & Cou Cou – No singing in the rain

    Did Owen get soaked?

    Caught in the middle

SOME CALLED IT REVELATION TIME and even though a certain operative pretended that the news had already been aired, no one had heard it before.

Now Cou Cou understands that all eyes are focused at the location to see who will get contracts to do what, and who will get the business behind those contracts.

Some have suggested that it could be closed season at the site with the main money flowing in one direction.

Whatever happens, a particular individual will have to be very mindful of what she says because she is right smack in the middle of everything.

  11. WIV, i agree with what you said is Mias fear, but the issue is whether you think that the chaiman heard ( or probably you did not hear it either) you must deal with that. You alway sidestep the issues by taking shots at Mia. For ONCE deal with the issues or keep off the blogs. You are an insult to intelligent bajans.

  12. These BLP jackasses always looking to create an issue when there is none. they are a sick bunch of stupid people who feel they and they alone got a God-given right to rule Barbados. Barbadians dont want your leader. She can do what she wants but we don’t want her.

Simple and plain can you, I or anyones determine what Mr Paul heard or did not hear ??

Give me a break this is absolutely childish as only BLP could be.

You or I would never know if he heard or did not hear so endeth this lesson.

Look Muttley behaving like a spoilt child as she is on the verge of being brought to ground by Owing and the men of the party and she does not know her as from her elbow right now.

She was told that she had 6 months to clean up her act and she has neglected to do so and the time of decision is near, she Muttley out Owing in now I wait to see if she has the Balls to tell the same party that set her up for this fall and this disgrace if to fly off and start her own party or is she so hungry for leadership she will sit and hope for the crumbs to fall off of Dale and Owing’s table and eat from the scraps on the ground like a stray dog ?

If she really had THE BALLS as I am sure she has I expect her to tell the BLp have fun see you I will haunt you by forming my own party as Richie Haynes did when faced with the same type of position, she has more mouth that Richie and may have more Bite than Richie so I would not be at all surprised to hear her launch THE ALL WOMENS FULL ACTION PARTY FOR GAYS AND LESBIANS.

This would be a first for the island, and she could lead it with full control and knowledge of the matters of which she speaks being an advocate of this program and lifestyle.

She has had many first her abuse of every Ministry she has accosted the first in totally screwing up Eduation with a scam of Edutech, screwing the Ministery of Culture and CBC and Cropover, the Ministry of the Attorney General with CWC dshe has had some first ok but not positives first.

  16. Even if we believe this event which occurred between Chairman of Committee James Paul and Leader of Business in the House Chris Sinckler is not a big deal, the fact it has been exposed merits an acknowledgement so that we can all move on. Lets face it, if it was Mottley, Arthur or say George Payne in the position of Sinckler all hell would have broken lose.

Is not the presiding officer the sole authority as to what was said in the Chamber? Be careful, David , that BU is not held in contempt of Parliament by an attempt to controvert the officer’s ruling!

  18. @jeff

    Good one Sir!

Remember the perceived and demonstrated impartiality of the Speaker’s Chair has been supported by the convention of the Wesminster System. Shall we stress convention?

  19. The official transcript should be the final arbiter of this matter so it would be interesting to see what is recorded.

Anyway someone seems intent on making a mountain out of a mole hill and I am reminded of when PE Trudeau was PM of Canada and was accused of mouthing “eff off” to Opposition members on Parliament in response to questions. Afterwards when Trudeau was questioned by reporters he denied saying “eff off” and said he mouthed the words “fuddle duddle”. Sure enough Hansard (The Official transcript of Parliamentary debates) recorded it as “fuddle duddle”

So if someone is bothering you can tell them to go “fuddle duddle”

    You can look it up

  20. ‎A Threat To Our quality of representative in Ronald Toppin,

The long does of Salts the insipid, Ronald Toppin cannot even take care of his Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog with his Mal treatment of his puppy and it had to secured by the Breeder and taken back into the Breeders care for raising and good care how can he propose to give good care to his constituents and his half a dozen clients, if he cannot take safe care and provide food and clean drinking water to his own dog.

Not hearsay at all, it is a fact of life that Ronald Toppin purchased a Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog from Sarah Hamilton Ou ____t and she was so distraught when she next saw the puppy that she had to set about getting the puppy back from him to raise it herself so that it could get a regular supply of food and water.

Sadly If this is the level of care and attention that Toppin gives to a puppy Lord help his constituents and clients.

    Mr. Speaker,
If the DLP remains in Office for 15 years , they will still be blaming the BLP, that is their modus operandi.

The hallmark of the DLP and Thompson’s tenure, so far , has been the many broken promises and the inabilty to operationalize stupid concepts such as the cell -phone tax.

The inability of Thompson to achieve anything of consequence so far other than economic confusion is indicative of the superficial nature of the man, his policies and his party.

  22. FIRE, I still hear the BLP talking about the 8% pay-cut 19 years later!

  23. Look Carol don’t mind them hear I keep on saying these people want lockin up!

David you heard DaSilva at the DLP luncheon stating that someone should be charged! do you think this is same ole same ole long talk!!!!

  24. The BLP/DLP same party

DLP still blaming BLP for building central bank and deep water harbour.

If you listen to some people nuttin would get done.
I hate this two party thing. Bring one party and stop pretending that we have two parties. Mia might join the DLP if what I read on these Blogs is true. Will she do a Mascoll ??

ha ha -I did not think about this before I started but that it is true has now dawn on me B4 DAWN—-Mia DOING A mascoll -ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  25. Clearly, the licks which PM Thompson put in Ms. Mottley in his wind up still got the Labour Party people smarting. That is to be expected what is surprising though is that BU and David are giving such prominence to a non issue like this.

Now who really cares about this issue, how will any of this help to bring our deficit down, pay for the 700 million prison, the 200 million highway extension, the 230 million Gem’s experiment, the 63 million for Mr. Barrack etc etc etc.

The fact remains that when the DLP left office a substantial project was left for the institution of a VAT in Barbados. Principally it was to be implemented at a rate of 15% on substantially most goods and services in Barbados. Options were left for which goods would be zero rated, exempted etc.

Now the questions is was any substantial change made to the concept of proposal for the implementation of the VAT………….NO. The minor fiddling with a common basket of goods for zero rating or exemption cannot really amount to a change in the policy prescription. The BLP implemented the VAT which they came and found. It was to be at 15 % they put it at 15%; there was to be a basket of goods to be exempted from VAT, and they did that too; there was a proposal for the elimination of a serious of taxes once VAT was implemented and they did that too. There was to be a VAT administration, a VAT office, a VAT commissioner blah, blah, blah, and they did all of that too.

So what is Royal Rumble’s point. Ostensibly Sinckler was correct, just as he was correct in saying that they opposed the Severance Pay adjustments in opposition and did not change them back once in government, just like they bitterly opposed the 1973 constitutional amendments and having been in government for 24 of the last 32 years never saw it fit to change any of it.

So the red herring which David and his BLP fans seem so fascinated with on this particular post is truly unbelievable. What threat to democracy is it if one MP has a view that is different from another. Are we to naturally take the view of Mottley over Sinckler or vice versa. They both expressed a view that was not even developed to a logical conclusion. Mottley never said what the BLP changed about the VAT and Sinckler never expanded on why he felt they changed none of the core proposals they found.

Then, how is it that such politically astute and keen listeners of the debates wont know that in the practice of parliamentary procedure the Chair or Speaker determines what he or she hears or sees. For example, one member of the house might up first and another slightly after him but the Speaker or Chairman recognizes the member who rose second. It is his right to do so as the practice says that it is who catches the eye of the presiding officer first. Now if that were to happen between an opposition and government MP and the Officer calls on the government MP to speak, would that be a grave threat to democracy?

Is this the level to which serious discourse on this Blog come to BU?If the Chairman did said he did not hear Sinckler say none well perhaps he he did not. He might not have been paying full attention, and in the cut and thrust of a live debate words a missed others are lost particularly with all the cross talk in the Chamber and the constant points of order. It that a threat to Barbados’ democracy? really? gosh man i must be really losing it.

And if i was losing it I would go to the other extreme and say that it might really be Ms. Mottley’s continued defiance of the orders of the Chair and the her clear attempt to badger James Paul into allowing her to get her way in the debate and disrupt Sinckler’s speech as the real threat to democracy.

But surely that would be just as ridiculous as the this post by royal rumble. That leads me to ask the question, what or perhaps who is slyvan greenidge really trying to get at?

  26. @Who Cares

Do you want us to deny the right for the BLP side to state a view and to defend it?

Maybe you should expand on your last paragraph for the BU family.

THE DLP WILL NOT WIN THE NEXT ELECTION

  28. BU, i would never do that because that would be a grave threat to democracy.

  29. sorry i meant i would never want you to do that. No reason yet to expand on the last statement, I was simply asking a question.

  30. Wait David! who is responsible for the Title of this particular blog? If It wasn’t you, and Royalrumble presented it then we might all have the answer to “Who cares” question. I asked already, who was Slyvan Greenidge laughing at when he was kicked out of parliment. The Nationnews had reported that Mia Mottley was speaking at the time.

To have a picture of Mia Mottley headlined with ” Threat To Democracy” may lead to a different interpretation than the author had intended; or not. lol!

  31. @Adrian

The title was posted as submitted by Royalrumble.

  32. AKA SLYVAN GREENIDGE

  33. Well that explains it all. I heard from a BLP at St. Leonards tonight that RR (Sylvan Greenidge) was extremely rude and offensive to one of the servers in parliament last week where he goes for his free lunch. He treated the girl like a dog.

Chris Sinckler banned him from the lunch room and Mia begged for him.

She said that things are rough with him and that Ralph Thorne is in court ever week defending him at her request for bad debts that he racked up when the BLP was in office so give him a break and let him get a little lunch.

    This place is crazy!

  34. Carol what else you heard at the meeting?

  35. You really want to know? Why you dont write it yaself?

I hear that Estwick fight with Marshall on Friday night. But someone tell me that aint nuttin. Billie shoot Bolden at Cabinet. Arthur fight with Joe Payne. Joe Atherly said that he would never accept Mia as leader due to lifestyle issues and now he is Owen candidate.

    Ya want more?

  36. More gosip does spread at BLP meetings about Bees than at the Dems one. Kerrie Symmonds give me some more good ones last week.

Ya want ta hear dem ta?

  37. @sylvan and wiv

Give us your perspectives. Given Estwicks aggressive nature there is the inclination to believe Estwick started the fight.

I do not or have I heard of any matter, I will say though that the arrogance and cockyness of Marshall does not surprise me that someone has not knocked his head around he is an arrogant, cocky clown, I was going to describe him differently but opted for Clown which maybe considered kind.

Yes The Parro in the Suit was extremely uncouth last week to the workers of Parliament, the pressure getting to Mia as Toppin and Muttley and Blind Clarke were all in tatters during the debate last week.

  39. @WIV

So you are saying the buzz around this incident of a weapon being drawn is false?

  40. Thanks for the ‘info’ Carol, no more for me.

  41. Let us ask the question again to our usually vociferous politicos. Was a gun involved in the skirmish between Estwick and Marshall?

  42. This blog is titled quite accurately …. because that is exactly what the “possibility” of M.Motley as PM will be for Barbados.

Wunna forget. Politics aint no children ting.

  45. David boy if you plan on coming to watch the Budget debate in the gallery of Parliament you have to wear your bullet proof vest. I have already warned the BLP especially Dale Marshall to be careful.

Barbados is on a dangerous fall from prosperity. All the gains made in the last fourteen years are now under threat.

Stay tune there is much more to come. The Dems would not tell you but I will.

  46. In the estimate Debate thompy said that he was not interested in any economics and that he was building a society. If the incident in Parliament on Friday is anything to go by then clearly we all know now what kind of society he is building.

With the “wild boys” in the DLP running things the way they are I would do anything to live in one of these gated communities in Barbados – away, hopefully from these flying bullets.
