The BU family has discussed debt in earlier blogs, BU family Green Monkey member posted the video Money as Debt which presents the dark side about how debt is created and managed in the banking system. Another family member Looking Glass recently sent us the link to the video posted. What BU found interesting in the video was the reference to credit card debt being a key reason why many homeowners had to refinance mortgages. The refinancing placed them in a financially vulnerable position which primed many for the sub-prime debacle which was to follow.

The issue of debt is also relevant at this time of the year because Barbadians will join many around the world by jockeying for ways to increase their personal debt; all of this is in keeping with the spirit of the season!

The video is 55 minutes in duration and BU highly recommend it.

  1. There is an old saying you never get some thing for nothing I wish that people would remember this when using credit cards

  2. Beware the Psychopath, My Son
    by Clinton Callahan

I make the effort to share this information because it gives me, at last, a plausible answer to a long-unanswered question: Why, no matter how much intelligent goodwill exists in the world, is there so much war, suffering and injustice? It doesn’t seem to matter what creative plan, ideology, religion, or philosophy great minds come up with, nothing seems to improve our lot. Since the dawn of civilization, this pattern repeats itself over and over again. The answer is that civilization, as we know it, is largely the creation of psychopaths.

All civilizations, our own included, have been built on slavery and mass murder. Psychopaths have played a disproportionate role in the development of civilization, because they are hard-wired to lie, kill, cheat, steal, torture, manipulate, and generally inflict great suffering on other humans without feeling any remorse, in order to establish their own sense of security through domination. The inventor of civilization — the first tribal chieftain who successfully brainwashed an army of controlled mass murderers — was almost certainly a genetic psychopath. Since that momentous discovery, psychopaths have enjoyed a significant advantage over non-psychopaths in the struggle for power in civilizational hierarchies — especially military hierarchies. Behind the apparent insanity of contemporary history, is the actual insanity of psychopaths fighting to preserve their disproportionate power. And as their power grows ever-more-threatened, the psychopaths grow ever-more-desperate.

We are witnessing the apotheosis of the overworld — the overlapping criminal syndicates that lurk above ordinary society and law just as the underworld lurks below it.

  3. Shailesh Mehta Phd is an iconic figure in India (his place of birth). There is a School of Management named after him and all that he is is some one who has successfully duped the poorest people in America to spend money with his company is way that would have them indebted for life. Now Stanford is in Prison for taking Old people’s money. To me the crimes are one and the same…!

  4. Video from GRITtv:
The Secret Global Empire(s): Russ Baker & John Perkins

U.S. history has seen many presidents elected on a wave of progressive promises, only to see them compromise again and again once in office, caving to the very interests, military and corporate, that they railed against so effectively. Barack Obama is only the latest to get elected on a promise to end a war and take care of working people, only to preside over an administration stacked with Wall Street types and wind up continuing a war he wanted to wind down. Americans voted for change and are getting frustrated with the lack of it, but our guests have both written about the powerful forces holding the status quo in place. John Perkins is the author of Hoodwinked and Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, and has written about how corporations push politicians around and even threaten them with violence. Russ Baker, meanwhile, is the author of Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means for America and has written extensively about the military-industrial complex. They argue the only weapon we have is public opinion and public pressure–and we need to bring it to bear not just on the government, but on the corporations.

  5. @Green Monkey

Finally got a chance to watch the video you posted and got a chill listening to the two gentlemen give their perspective on how the world is govern. It is the type of world view which constantly evades our media.

  6. We in the PDC and many of our supporters will continue to propound that if Barbados is to become more productive and less debt burdened, then all those localized Westernized political legal and financial laws and policies that continue to help give rise to this very oppressive and degradating institutional productive debt and investment losses culture in Barbados, must, have to and – as a matter of correctness – will have to be utterly removed from the political legal and financial landscapes of Barbados.

Such laws and policies are in need of being removed to help rescue thousands upon thousands of people, businesses and other entities from the scourge of a political financial bondage that has been so dastardly helped brought about in this country by those same laws and policies.

Therefore, what is sorely needed is the emergence of a PDC Government in Barbados that will greatly make sure that these evil wicked laws and policies – which themselves are related to, et al, the existence and maintenance of Taxation, Interest Rates, Repayable Productive Loans, Motor Vehicle Insurance, the issuance by Government of “government paper” – will in the final analysis be removed from the political legal financial landscape of this country, in order that far better and more effective and modern strategies and facilities can be put in place to aid in the further growth and development of this country and its citizens.

Finally, with a PDC Government implementing such changes in the country then and only then will the degenerate, fallacious generalization that Money is debt and that money creates debt will all the more be disproved and cast aside by such a regime and its followers.

  7. What amazes me about the speakers in the video is that they both decided to steer clear of attributing blame for 9-11 to some domestic campaign other than to say that the event forced people’s outlook on issues to change in a significant way. Boy oh boy, today if anyone says that the War on Terror was instigated be US/Western interests they will be marginalised… such is the complete effectiveness of the vilifying and propaganda campaign of the Fourth Estate.

    Well done Green Monkey

  8. I am an Atheist and a Socialist. Pastor Zoe refers to me and those who think like me as demented. Now tell me, these American institutions popularly referred to as Banks were bailed out of trouble with tax payers money to the tune of TRILLIONS of dollars… Now we learn that they are paying their executives 30 Billion in year end bonuses. What about paying back the tax payers? Who really are the demented people in this world?.
