morals-ethicsIt was just over one year when the ascension of a Democratic Labour Party (DLP)  to the government was heralded in the fanfare of song, dance and religious ceremony at the newly built Kensington Oval. All of those who were in attendance or viewed it on TV witnessed the religious flavoured ceremony, the spiritual upliftment was felt and welcomed by many.  There was much back slapping and relaxing of frowns caused by a growing belief that there was rampant moral ineptitude overrunning our small Christian society.

Not since the disestablishment of Church and State in Barbados had a government been so bold as to bridge the gap between the two. Prime Minister David Thompson many felt wanted to send a clear signal to all that the time for moral atonement had come. His government would be giving priority to increasing the moral reservoir of the country.

It seems ironic that 1 year and some later the country has become embroiled in debate about whether we have become a country of too much feting especially during Lent, the number one Christian season!

Barbados is accepted as a Christian country.

For those who align with the view that government has no place legislating morals, BU agrees. For those who believe the decision rest with the individual, we disagree. The government, corporate community, NGOs, they ALL have a responsibility to shape a wholesome society which will lead to sustainability. Given the proclivity nowadays of our people to gravitate to what is popular and then embrace it as the standard has led to the orderly society which Barbados has become renown disintegrating. The fact that our society in the last ten years has transform to a pluralistic one has only compounded the problem.

At the recent 42 Independence Celebrations held at the Garrison the BU household observed with horror that there was no Scout troop on parade. A few minutes later the commentator alerted listeners that the Girl Guides was the largest group on parade. We have heard the statistic that 60+% of the student population at the University of the West Indies is comprised of females. What does all this translate to? The destabilization of the traditional family, the pivot of all successful societies is now under threat. Rude Boy DJs are being unleashed on an impressionable public by licensed radio stations. The chaos on our roads created by PSVs and private vehicles alike, a symptom of the moral vacuum in our society.

Minister of Family and Social Care Esther Byer-Suckoo has been given the task of creating initiatives to stem and shift the moral flow in the country. One year late we have not discern any change on the moral compass.

Can you see the weeds in the lawn?

  1. Could proudly immoral people lead/cause the increasing of the moral reservoir (whatever that means)?

At least one characteristic of moral leadership should be honesty. Has this administration been one whose word has been its bond?

  2. “The top and the bottom of it”
We have put the accumulation of wealth at the “core” of our being, it now signifies who we are and our perceived importance in society…this can destroy us. There are many ways of acquiring wealth and we have lost sight of “honesty” this has been our failing. Probity has not always got to be tied to a religious position as a moral stance can be taken without a religious background.

We must also row back from the policy of victimization, retribution and teaching people a lesson, tenets on which some of us feed, as it is cyclic.

It is the little personal daily interactions which determine the way a society is heading, we must treat each other with respect not because of any religious inclination but simply it is the right thing to do, because of our love and feelings for each other, as we see ourselves as human beings in each other. It is this simplicity which will give us enduring strength and cohesion in a complex society.

It has become cool for some to be vulgar, profane and boorish and to see other people’s property as legitimately theirs, providing they can get their hands on it, the means of acquisition does not matter, this in a country which depends on tourism for its livelihood has inherent dangers for all of us.

  3. News Breaking Now

A Jamaican man has a canadian airline on the ground at gun point demanding to be taken to Cuba.

Barbados has seen thousands of Jamaican coming in to Barbados within recent years and staying illegally and committing crimes.

Lord help us if they start to exhibit the same behaviour in Barbados like they do in Jamaica.

  4. David Thompson seems so concern about morality that he immediately moved responsibility for the Church from the PM’s office and has given it to Ester Byer Suckoo.

Instead, he has placed anything to do with money under the Prime Minister’s Office. Hint, hint hint!!!

The Church (especially the Priest at Christ Church; Pastor Holford and Lucille Baird) said that Thompson was specially sent from on-high.

According to them, the last election was divine intervention. Yet a few days ago, Father Marcus expressed disappointment at the lack of leadership in the Church.

    Why shouldn’t he?

The Church is silence on Clico; silent on job lost, silent of Barbados’ Macro Economic Indicators; silent on price gouging on land tax and petroleum products.

Well, the Chuch must accept responsibility for all the wrongs in society toady.

Are they still collecting offering on Sundays.

Church, what say ye!!! Do you still feel that Thompson was sent from on-high?

    he last election

Parro Greenidge you really are dumb you totally missed the point of the post above.

You and your party should be the last group to speak of morals as you have none, least you forget your pretend leader and her vicious beating attacks on innocent young ladies, you seem not to remember the viciousness of her attack on ???

Give me a break Parro Greenidge.

  6. @ Wishing In Vain

    Collusion and Corruption Cover Up:

Regulators in several Caribbean countries have moved against CLICO Insurance operations including Guyana, the Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, St. Lucia (a branch of the Barbados operation) Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago where the companies have been found to be financially weak.

Yet, in Barbados, despite breaking the law by not meeting it Statutory Fund Requirement of $93 million dollars (mysteriously said weeks later to be $54 million) Clico Barbados is being allowed to continue operating as though nothing has happened.

David Thompson – aided and abetted by DLP Minister and operative at all levels – including in the public sector – is doing everything possible (both legal and illegal) to protect his friend Leroy Parris and not the people of Barbados whom the DLP promised change.

So corruption in this country is getting obese because the Barbados Prime Minister – like hartley henry – is drawn to the dark side.

Still, it would be interesting to know where that $39 million has suddenly come from, especially since Clico Barbados Holding includes Samlords Castle, which is tied-up in litigation and therefore could not have been pledged, neither could a number of non performing assets that are hardly worth anything.

There is Rayside (the proposed DLP cash-cow) but presently only profitable if it continues to be passed road contracts by David Thompson – the Minister of Finance – the former Attorney for Clico – and Parris’ “social and other” friend.

Of course Clico has land but that is agricultural and certainly could not be valued $39 million. In any event, “only a certain amount of land can be used.”

Seems like Clico needs to be placed under judicial management, primarily to protect those 40,000 Barbadian families and secondly – so that Pastor Holford and the silent Church – can see if charges needs to be brought – either against Clico officials or the Supervisor of Insurance, for collusion and/or corruption.

This again highlights why integrity legislation is important.

Judicial Management would show-up the $925,000 house Parris’ wife and Thompson’s wife purchased cash, as well as other hidden assets they and other DLP operatives have siphoned off from Clico – at the expense of policy holders (their constituents) including millions in premiums that were used as campaign contributions to purchase the DLP government and sweetheart mortgages and insurance deals for David Thompson, his family and DLP Cabinet Ministers.

Now you understand why David Thompson cannot allow Clico to be placed under judicial management. Even the most corrupt in our society agrees that the DLP has gone too far and that there is simply no way that the DLP can be allowed to continue to make such a stinking cesspool.

    I agree with Brandford Taitt!

It is only a matter of time before Barbados incurs the wrath of United Nations.

Note that this country is already on the OECD’ and Standard and Poors’ watch.

Rev. Errington Messiah may be right: this country may have to build a new prison soon, since hartley henry will need his own wing to run his criminal empire from.

Does this qualify as understanding this post?

  7. Dark KNIGHT it seems that you are suffering from some sort of severe memory lost, the most corrupt goverment this country have ever seen was between 1994 and january 14th 2008. Greenland pond $42000000,Silver sands bath $895000 Edutech $100000000=condominum at the bottom of Rendezvous Hill GEM opf Barbados un accounted millions. AND THE LIST CAN GO ON, yes we need Glendiary Prison reopening but the problem for you Dark Knight RAWLE EASTMOND would be the leader of the BLP.

  8. @Dark Knight

We have asked you to ENGAGE the BU family and turn down the NOISE. If you don’t people don’t read or respond.

  9. @ RPO,

    You say:

the most corrupt goverment this country have ever seen was between 1994 and january 14th 2008
    ……………………………

Not according to Transparency Internation or the OECD.

You have the temerity to be telling somebody nonsense about corruption and hartley henry is the special advisor to the Prime Minister!!

The problem today is that after two years in office, the DLP has suddenly realise that it cannot bluff anymore. It has to produce – an impossible task.

To the best of my knowledge, withholding evidence in Barbados is a criminal offense.

How come the DLP is not sharing its allegations with the Police or the DPP.

    You idiot!!!

Wait for the Auditor General’s Report.

  10. @ David

Are you saying that it is not true that the Statutory Fund deficit is $93 million?

Are you saying that it is not true that Parris’ wife and Thompson’s wife bought a house cash for $925,000?

Are you saying that there are not 40,000 policy holders at Clico that Thompson is failing to protect?

Are you saying that it is not true that with more policy holders and a wider gap in the statutory requirement (by law) Barbados is the only country where Clico operates that has not gone the route of judicial management.

Does David Thompson have power to waive the law on the $93 million Clico owes?

Thompson may feel so having given Clico $20 million and after wipeing off $19 million for the Turf Club.

In the national interest, wouold you be so kind as to please give your BU family the answers to these questions.

  11. David

    You have the power!

Just delete those posts from Dark Knight which are not on topic and skewing the discussion.

Did you hear wickham this morning?

He was almost choking with rage against the church. CBC has to be careful about the hatred he is whipping up against the church and christians.

Every day he is on, he and that crazy muslim fellow spread lies, and anti church propoganda with the open support of CBC.

Wickham hates any one who is articulate criticising him,so he was very insulting to Margaret Gill the Poet and a christian caller.

Shame on Wickham, and shame on CBC.

  12. We try to give commenters a degree of latitude. In this case we are cautioning DK and WIV to leave their mud at the door.

    @Yardbroom

Barbados is built on Christian values in the man e.g the 10 commandments. If we want to replace this plank/foundation what with is the question?

  13. “The truths of religion are exalted, but its duties are close at hand.

We know Gods less by contemplation than by emulation.

The choice is not between ‘faith’ and ‘deeds’, for it is by our deeds that we express our faith and make it real in the life of others and the world.” – Jonathan Sacks.

Why would Fr. Marcus be concerned about leadership in the Church?

Does Pastor Holford, Lucille Baird, the Rev. at Christ Church and the others still feel that the DLP was slected from on high.

This question is important, especially given the thousands who have lost their jobs and cannot buy food because of the high cost of living.

What programme/s does the Church have to meet the survival needs of Barbadians on earth, especially given that life expectancy for men is 72 years and women some 78 years.

  14. I believe in weighing tings, guess Mr Peter Wickham would have the information on most of these tings but he does not seem to share info dat might mek his people look bad in dem clothes. So don’t expect any engagement from him. He is too intelligent not to follow de script for his job. Regardless of what you tink “blood thicker than water”. Pick sense outa dat.

  15. @ David
I am on side as far as Christian values are concerned but we have to accept that everyone does not believe in Christianity. We must “engage” them as well, it is incumbent on us to appeal to them on a different level to achieve the same result.

It is not necessary for the majority to be wayward to impact on society only a few are needed for such an outcome.

At the risk of offending a few, “some” parents are to blame, they often fail to instil values by “example,” they desire to be mates with their children as opposed to being loving parents, thus real parenting takes a back seat…very sad but true.

  16. Just a lil ting came to mind. Evangelist Gordan Matthews who was a member of the prison board could add his two bits on morality and religion and even politics.

  17. In light of the economic mess, will there be a social consultation, especially before the Budget?

What plans does the Church have to render to the earthly needs of the thousands who have lost their jobs and the thousands more who are on various lists to be sent home?

I ask this because they too are to blame for the meltdown of the economy.

Like the watchman who guardeth the City but fell asleep, the blood is on their hands!

  18. Please explain how the church could be responsible for the meltdown of the economy.

Is the church an economic regulatory institution?

  19. While Clico does, what does Macro Economic Indicators have to do with regulation.

Do you mean regulation or dangerous mismanagement.

Do you see any similarities between (Goerge Orwell’s: Animal Farm)which depicts the Communist Revolution of 1917 and the role the Church allowed itself to play in the last election and after?

Still, I welcome you attempt to assist in raising the standard of debate.

  20. Barbados is travelling on a serious road of damation. Most of us “baby boomers” and before, were raised in a Christian society. Then, no matter how bad a fella in the villge was, there was always that respect for “the church.” Barbados was a country of HIGH MORALS. Today, free education among other aspects have resulted in a level of progress where these same baby boomers, have become so “educated” that it is turning them stupid and the very moral upbringing which they had that made them who they are, is now the very thing they are rejecting. This is a dangerous road, one day we will live to regret. Like the rich young ruler, you might be digging your own grave.

  21. It is becoming more difficult to raise a child in this modern day society. Our brightest brains are subjected to anti-Christian lectures at the UWI. In a once Christian society, the young people are now confused because their lecturers are telling them one thing and their parents, those who still believe in God, is telling them something else. That is one of the reasons why a lot of young people are so wayward. I call on Government to get back to basics and re-establish this country to Christian values and morals. I also call on the Church to speak out and play their part but first they have to clean up their act.

  22. Peter Wickham is one of those that have corrupted a lot of our young people at UWI with this anti-Christian thing, now he’s using the airwaves at CBC to attempt to corrupt the rest of Barbados. The problem with him is that he’s a coward, he will use young minds and call in programs but he is not “man” enough to come one on one with adults and debate the subject, he must hide behind something or somebody. I’m disappointed that the church is allowing this “cancer” to eat away at the very fabric of our society and remain silent. It is time Christians stand up and if this trend continues, we MUST picket the studios of CBC and the office of the Minister responsible, Stop this foolishness NOW. Barbados is fast becoming a very immoral, anti-Christian society. Soon going to church will be a thing of the pass, we might have to do like some other counries and worship in hiding

  23. Nothing is wrong with having a different point of view or disagreement with the church, but what peter wickham is doing is directly and sytematically targetting the church and bit by bit seeking to poisoin the young minds in society about christianity and christian standards so that young people could accept a very liberal lifestyle.

Have you noticed that he never challenges the muslim religion which also condemns homosexuality, and is even harsher in the restriction of human rights and freedom.

    Now why is this so?

Every thing in our society that is wholesome and good and moral, degenerates like peter wickham seek to pull down and destroy, yet they have no wholesome alternative to replace it with.

Because the airwave is such a powerful tool, the government and CBC need to be more responsible in who they allow behind their microphone.

If people like wickham could get this society to descend into a pit of loose morals with no standards, then homosexuality and same sex marriage will be accepted as a norm.

Yes disagree if you wish, but do not use the airwaves to destroy our christian values, tradition and heritage.

  24. It amazing how many christains there are in Barbados when things get hard economically. When people like Dk WAS LIVING LAVISHLY OFF THE TAX PAYERS all christainaity, morals and values when through the door and dont mentioned consultants the BLP HAD SO MANY THAT THEY COULD NOT COUNT THE. You know of the names Mr Goddard, Mr Marshall ,Mr WILLIAMS just to name a few.The world is in ressesion and Barbados is not immune and your claims of thousands lay off give the numbes and the institutions i know jobs are being lost but Barbados is doing fairly well under the circumstances find something productive to do and stop being so repetative to every situation the DLP.

    This Blog is losing it

  26. @Yardbroom

Don’t disagree but our concern continues to be if we continue to destroy the values which emanate from the Christian dogma and we don’t replace it what happen’s. In our view the value system was so all embracing that non-Christian were influenced.

  27. Somebody has to stop Peter Wickham in his tracks. Between peter Wickham and these non-nationals invading this country our entire culture will be changed un-recognisable.

  28. Iam in total agreement with The SCOUT Peter Wickham have clearly stated he is not a christian and his life style would not allow him to be, so you who calling yourselfs christians with your immorals acts are an abomination in GOD SIGHT. BUT I MUST STATE I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH NO NATIONALS IF THERE ARE LEGAL.

  29. The problem is that the “mainstream” church has sold out to the highest bidder as well.

Don’t look to the Church — they are not God. Look to the hills from whence cometh your help.

    Barbados needs to repent:

If my people who are called by my name, would turn from their wicked ways and call upon Me, I would heal their land”.

  30. If Peter wickham has stated he is not a christian, should he be allowed to go on air every single time and bash, and ridicule the christian religion?

Would so-called liberals,or agnostics or atheists feel o.k. if the Anglican bishop,or father clement paul,or rev,Lucille baird every day or every week they have the airwaves use their time bashing muslims,or the bahais etc?

Why is that crazy guy who some call the ‘religous historian’ (which he clearly is not) who is obviously a ‘closet muslim’, be allowed to spread lies, propoganda and rubbish about the christian church every day for the last 3 -5 years on both VOB and CBC?

Would a christian caller be allowed to call the radio station non stop for 5 years bashing muslims?

    I don’t think so!

Christians seem to be the only people who turn the other cheek,or turn their head when their religion and their God is being blasphemed against.

One day they will have to account for this lack of public support for their Christ, and may be told ;depart from me I know ye not!

  31. And for what it’s worth ……….. my ten cents:

BajanGal is quite correct; the Church is a “paper tiger”, the few in there who have any morals left are “muzzled” by those who waitin’ on the Sunday collection (tithe). They can’t say anything to upset those who payin’ them. Hence the “sweetbread” talk from the altars. It sweet like honey. You would never hear one of them chastise one of you all for ever doing anything that the Bible says is wrong OTHER THAN not paying your tithe.

Whether it is Thompie or Pompi or Johnny, who pays the piper calls the tune. Even the “dumb” old people that didn’t finish elementary school knew that.

The whole de-Christianization of every Christian society in this world has been authored and is supported by the UN and their entourage.

    In Point:

The previous Government did everything in its power to bring “Education in Human Values”, proferred by the MOE’s technocrats and paid for by the UN through grants and loans for “Edutech” and the like, which has never been completed, to become the curriculum of choice in Public and Private Schools.

The pre-rigor mortis “Church” made some “noise” and managed to get the actual name “Education in Human Values” and their “White Paper” out of circulation but the anti-Christian MO has become more stealthy.

The teachers are indoctrinated first at the various establishments and “brain-washed” in the values of the UN and then sent into the schools as “Change Agents”. But change to WHAT?

Provocateurs like Messrs. Wickham and Co. who seek to get you hot under the collar and get vexed and generally distract you from what is really going on while they insidiously through every avenue possible, creep into your homes and your familes and devalue them.

If the people want change they going to have to start in their own houses. Each man in his own house.

  32. Bajan Guy

You have given me a lot of food for thought.

I will digest and then ponder the next step.

  33. I remember that Human values thing which was being pushed by a hindu indian man – Prakash Vaswani – aided and abeted by the then Minister of Education – Guess who that was?

You got it – Mia Amor Mottley – the Great Corrupter of Moral Values.

    Bite muh and Boo.

This BLP government single handedly destroyed what little innocence and integrity which was left in this country.

Mia pushed the legalisation of homosexuality while owen said nothing, owen pushed for our limited land supply be sold to the highest bidder – while Mia said nothing.

Billie pushed for the muslims to violate our school uniform by wearing of pants and dress – while the rasta children got hell for wearing their locks and eventually had to cover it up with a Tam.

School was sut down while Mia called in Edwin Yearwood to sing calypso to the children.

Billie decided boys were getting ahead too well at school,so she mash up the whole damn thing by throwing in girls in the mix.

DALE MARSHAL,GEORGE PAYNE,OWEN ,LIZ, MIA,Billie,Wood,Rommell,Glyne Clarke ……………….. destroyed what little faith we had left in politicians with the outsized corruption, stealing, bribery, you name it.

    Loyalty lost its virginity at the bedroom room door of the Politics of Inclusion;

Values went out the window,Money and Sex became their gods,as guyanese whores offer up their body to who so ever will give them a paspport and a job.

    Bajans looked at that and decided well – ‘DO FUH DO – AIN’T NO OBEAH AND;

Wax palax – before you knew it the society at the bottom of the hill about to go over.

Whloss, look wuh owen gone an do nuh?

    And The Church Slept!

  34. Excuse me for asking, you on this blog who are so certain of the foundation of your beliefs, what challenge does a non-believer such as Wickham give you?

Ignore the man if your faith is strong enough, otherwise question your own faith along with Wickham’s questions.

  35. @ Anonymous // April 20, 2009 at 8:02 pm

The Church was not sleeping nor is it now. It is in the state of “rigor-mortis”. In other words if you don’t bury it soon it gine stink.

  36. @ Straight Talk:

Not to obscure and convolute the argument here but to be a mirror of your activity: It was never a question of my faith, your faith or Mr. Wickham’s faith for that matter but to get back to the root of this conversation — the levels of depravity that have surfaced in our country of birth.

The values that sustained us Bajans that we could declare these “hills and fields our own” are being eroded, corrupted, maligned and generally put to scorn by people who “posture” that they only want to have an “open discussion”.

Their hearts betray them. We see their agendas quite clearly when you read what they have been taught and by whom they have been taught.

The outcome in the “so called” liberal societies: corruption from the top down. Degrading humanity to mere automatons and consumers. Removing the integrity of the family to being “mere officers” protecting the valuable resources of the state (children):

You want to see the new slavery — NO CHAINS OR WHIPS — television, liberal talk, a credit card an SUV and a mortgage. And you BOUND to go to the work when the morning come — we don’t care about your sexual preference.

You want to be liberal — but look some straight talk now — let me hear you.

  37. Ignore that nut case straight talk.

Pure rubbish from that indian man.

If you follow his arguments – you must not talk about the racist indian, don’t talk about homosexuals, don’t talk about christian religion.

    Huh?

  38. Rev. Lucille Baird is the only minister of the gospel who speaks fearlessly for years, recently the Rev. Vincent Woods has been adding his voice.

No wonder peter wickham gewts so sgitated every time Rev Lucille baird speaks out.

    Where are the other ministers?

Are they suffering from permanent laryingitis?

  39. @ Anonymous // April 20, 2009 at 8:47 pm :

You seem to have information that the rest of us have not received.

A previous contributor said that not only the other ministers of the Church but specifically the lady you have mentioned and 2 other ministers of the “Church” had endorsed Mr. Thompson prior to the election as being a “divine intervention” and have since then relegated their job and position rather than criticize the “divine intervention”.

The Word says: and there are gods many — I wonder which one was intervening and who are his ministers?

  40. It has been my contention that Barbados is a more moral and ethical society today than it was in the past. Barbados continues to improve as it examines its mores and values and seeks to be more rational in its approach to the challenges of life.

I agree with the sentiment of Straight Talk. The comments of BajanGuy and anonymous @8:02 are such arrant nonsense that it is incredulous that they would get any support but it would be in keeping with the hypocrisy of humans that much lip service be paid to such.

It would do us well to reflect on the history of that “better” Barbados of not so long ago (i.e.in the lifetime of persons still living). It was not so long ago that most of us could not hope to live in material circumstances much better than a subsistence level, schooling and health services were reserved for the very few, the status of women was effectively that of chattel, the status of “illegitimate” child existed, justice and the democratic franchise was denied to many and for its worth ALL the sexual permutations and combinations of today existed then.

Spend some time listening to our young people. Put aside your prejudices and insecure myths and see the beautiful promise of our youth. Encourage and support them for whether we believe it or not, they are building an even better Barbados.

  41. @ Deng Xiaping // April 20, 2009 at 9:32 pm

Since you seem to be familiar with what Barbados was and is, are you familiar with the term a yard-fowl??

If in case you are not, to translate into more common English — a “mouth piece” one who spouts another ones doctrines and I know exactly where you could go and find the text you just wrote, transcribed.

If it were not for the struggles of your grandparents, I don’t think you would be around to tell us what would be better left ignored.

Since when, except in this “Enlightened Generation” has the wisdom of experience been so disparaged? Even low animals have to teach their young and why should human off-spring be any different?

In the West Indies Calypsonians are known to be social and political commentators and a verse comes to mind from a Trinidadian; he was singing about the time around the era 1970 when Trinidad was in so much turmoil and he described what you are professing “People who Brighten your Head and Lighten your Bread”.

To be more specific the old time Barbados that you disparage so, many who visited this island and promoted it, spoke of how naturally friendly and courteous Bajans were to each other and the tourists. Where at Cave Hill or any other cave can you find that?

Teachers, civil servants, police, firemen, nurses, doctors, lawyers came out of the “under privileged” “poverty stricken” state of demise that you so pompously declare existed.

Barbados’ super rich used to make sport at the people in the “mother country”. When Barbados had hard times the world had hard times too. Barbados was not lacking. A previous premier world renowned and recognized politician and lawyer stated: When Barbados was coming to its independence that prior to that time Barbados was exporting meat, sugar and other goods to the “mother country” not to mention all them children that went out there to build it up and to teach and to work in every kind of occupation available to man.

Oh, Barbados was so poor and backward that the likes of you all want to come and change it for the worse and climb on the backs of poor people and tell them that you are going to liberate them. Yes you will liberate them of their money and their self respect.

PS: Who ever bought a new computer and it program itself?

  42. Bajan Guy

do you suffer from some psychiatric condition or are you just naturally stupid?

  43. Deng Xiaping // April 20, 2009 at 10:08 pm

The only psychiatric condition I’m suffering from is that I have called you to board on the facts and kicked the insides out of your disingenuous arguments.

It is further inflamed by a genuine love of the people of my country of birth and their heritage. Which I will not deny and who I will call to board also when they are disloyal to that heritage.

I am very stupid but not so dumb as to buy a pig in a poke. I want to see or hear in which country in this whole universe does this UN proferred agenda for a better world not promote patricide, genocide and children murdering other children. Further, the level of rebellion against the legally appointed authorities, the level of petty crime and outlandish behaviour that is fostered and then penalized by the barrel of a gun.

    A better world?????

  44. Bajan Guy

How long have you been suffering these delusions of importance? Let me repeat: Barbados gets better with each generation. We continue to build on the work of our parents and our children shall surpass us by every measure.

  45. Deng Xiaping:

One of the beautiful things that I saw operating in Barbados was the facility of past PM’s — the two particular gentlemen that followed one another to sit with and discuss as though they were with their peers matters that concerned their gardeners and their maids and other people of low er office.

Barbados is not about who is important, Barbados used to be about Barbadians. Among us we do have exalted people who can stand on any world platform and give a fair account of themselves but they don’t forget their lowly cousins at home and they had no grievance to sit down and eat ice cream and sweet bread at the lowest, most humble person’s table and they did not despise that.

We are Barbadians from all walks of life and we hope and work that our offspring will do greater and mightier works than we but we are not going to fill their heads with a lot of “hot air” that they should forget their humble beginnings and the morals and the courage and the blood that was shed to get them where they now are.

    “Behaving like they mek themselves”.

Barbados has a place for every dissident, every colour of opinion and it has not destroyed the fabric of our country yet because we have not forgotten the lessons of our forefathers. We do not esteem ourselves to be so “smart”. There is lots of wisdom in the sayings of the common people, they survived the poverty they know how to live on little.

Nor do we portray ourselves to be what we are not.

Is it by chance that you are using a nom de plume that is an homonym of a most exalted member of the Chinese Communist Party? Or are you just making sport at the person who this name belongs to?

Since you esteem this gentleman to such an extent that you choose to use a homonym of his name how do you concscience Tiananmen Square? By what wisdom do you come to a country that has had more than 350 years of parliamentary government that continues to expand the entitlement of the population. When the Communist Party is the sole party in China? No dissent allowed. What about the public order rules nowadays that restrict a woman to having one child in her entire life time because the leadership states the population is too big.

Finally, what was the communist party under Mao and Lin Bao’s doctrine regarding homosexuality, adultery, prostitution and the behaviour of youth and how they were to be respectful? Not at all acceptable before the fellows in Geneva!

The next time you take up a label check it out first your moniker is not a no-name brand.
