khaidjibajanpoetryI was retired early through illness and occupied much of my shut in time writing poetry and reading my favorite blogs, BU of course is one. Sometime very recently I completed 1000 poems. By any stretch of the imagination, this is huge and worthy of news. But I shared it with my close friends only. An acquaintance called me up to enquire about my health and we got into talking about the poetry, it being my greatest pass time and perhaps the only means to tap my previously overactive mind. It was he who suggested I put my work into book form, to preserve them should I meet my final night, believed to be soon. My medical advisers determine it is closer now though still immeasurable. How vague can they be? Well I have completed 10 books, again news I believe but not broadcasted. Given that one of these books has such historic appeal and would make a great gift and collector’s piece at “This Moment In Time”, the words of Barack Obama and the title of one of the poems included, I know I shouldn’t remain tight lipped.

My book “Path To The White House” records my perspective on the political race from Primaries to General Election and includes a tribute to Barack Obama’s grandmother “Toot” and the outcome of the race. The unusual thing about all my poetry is that they are all Acrostics. An entire 240 pages, hard cover book of acrostic poetry on Barack Obama is in itself a rarity. I’m yet to uncover anything, anywhere. Isn’t this news worthy?

Well, I’m hoping that “Path To The White House” and my other books, especially the ones with local appeal like that dedicated to Rihanna, “A Robyn Flying High” and the local radio talk shows captured in “Turned On” will make for news. I took some measure to release to the press my coming out and I await their approval. My anticipation is however untamed. I cannot understand how I am able to get poems completed and hard copied and bound and available to international market through my online store BajanBooks.com by the morning after the Election night and a press release takes so many days, especially when the release is so current with international concerns and obviously the concerns of local radio, TV and the Blogs. When does a thing get news worthy?

The following is the press release submitted:

Over 100 acrostic poems on Barack Obama by a Bajan poet

Path To The White House – From Primaries To The General Election

Khaidji (pronounced KG) is a poet from Barbados who has written over 1000 poems, compiled many of them into hard back books, and is now releasing them online at BajanBooks.com These books are great gift ideas or perfect for your personal collection. The variety of categories include the recent politics in America, local Call in Radio, News, Religious, Rihanna and more

The politics of America, captured in the book titled “Path To The White House”, includes Khaidji’s perspective on Barack Obama’s race to become the first Black President of the U.S.A. The book is in two parts, the Primaries and the General Election. Khaidji has also included a Tribute written to “Toot”, the grand mother of Barack, who died one day before Election Day.

The books at BajanBooks.com are all written in a very unusual and creative art form. Khaidji takes simple acrostic messages and crafts them into unbelievable poetic verse. The poems are done in English and not the Bajan Parlance. Many have been read on radio and published on Blogs and Websites, local and international. The Religious poems and the ones Living With… have been very inspirational to readers especially those chronically ailing, in all corners of the English world.

With The Elections over and Khaidji’s words fulfilled, the Acrostic Poems for Barack Obama take on a new reality. This third edition was released on November 5, 2008, one day after Election Day and records this special time in history in a unique way. 1. Hi Khaidja we are sorry to read of your illness. The prayers of the BU household are with you.

We can’t understand why the various media houses would not publish your Press Release, we think there is a human interest story to be had which Sanka Price at the Nation should be motivated to explore.

We hope that it is a case of timing and your story will be published for all Barbadians to share in your achievement.

  2. Hi Khadija my prayers are with you the greatsupreme being bless you from JC and family when I go walking tomorrow I will remember you! May GOD bless you!

  3. The Press and the eletronic media need to have a policy on local artists and artistes.

As a a performing and recording artiste, I know that the media has no music policy. This was borne out by a NCF seminar which dealt with the subject . The same thing exists for the arts in general.

We in Barbados need to claim Barbados as our own. What the radio stations and the other media in Barbados are doing is tantamount to TREASON : undermining and de-stabilising the advancement of our cirizens by the their refusal to promote LOCAL.

For Example, the radio stations need to play more LOCAL MUSIC

  4. Dear Khaidji,

1.You may order a tape, “Healing Scriptures ” and a mini-booklet, “In Him”- from Kenneth Hagin Ministries (KHM). He knew what it was to have about every known terminal illness, till God healed him.

    2. His wife also was due to have heart surgery at 54, but while doing her daily chores she kept the tape on daily – and was healed (faith comes by hearing).

    3. They both lived till near 9o – and passed on 2003/2007 of old age. I too am healed supernaturally at least thrice while studying with that ministry in the last 20 years. God bless.

  5. …..to say the least!!

  6. We have to congratulate the Nation for given prominence to former Jamaica PJ Pattersons views on the immigration issue. We hope Peter Wickham, Kerrie Symmonds, Mia Mottley and former Prime Minister had a read. He is saying the same things that the BU family has been saying all along.
It makes us wonder why the government of Barbados is being so timid on this issue.

    Case for an ease

    TONY BEST
TAKE A HARD LOOK at the free movement of immigrants so far and give some countries feeling the pressure “breathing” room. That’s what P.J. Patterson, a former prime minister of Jamaica, believes CARICOM leaders should do to ease the pressure now being felt by some countries, Barbados included, which might be feeling the strain from the heavy influx of immigrants under Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) provisions that allow for the free movement of certain categories of workers.
Responding to the recent statement made to the SUNDAY SUN by Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM Denis Kellman that Barbados had reached its population peak, largely from the steady flow of immigrants, Patterson said countries in that predicament should be given some ease by the region’s leaders. Move in phases “The idea originally expressed was that we would move in phases with freedom of movement,” Patterson told the SUNDAY SUN. “We have gone through the first phase and, as has been admitted, there are certain areas where despite the restrictions, movement has been taking place between the people of countries in the Caribbean. I think it is appropriate for the leaders to look at what has happened . . . .”
He said those countries where there had been an influx of people needed to have some breathing time to cope with the social adjustments that were necessary. “Having done that [the leaders] should consider what are the next steps which are possible to enable the free movement of people in areas where there is a need or a shortage of particular skills.”

  7. CSME:

    Caribbean Single Market and Economy.

Do we really understand these words?

    I don’t think so.

If we want the most economical labour the CSME can provide we cannot gripe about losing picks of jobs.

If we want the same tariffs which apply to lower social cost islands we should be prepared to rein in our spending to suit.

If we want to export our over educated workforce to our partners, let them seek greener pastures without preference.

If we like it like it is and don’t ever want to change…. tell the politicos now it aint ever goin’ to happen.

You ministers carry on with your high powered meetings, plenty of hot air but no substance, we know you like it so.

Carry on talking forever, Barbados will never submit to freedom of movement, we’ve worked too hard for what we’ve got to lose it all to accepting the lowest common denominator.

  8. Dear Khaidji,
    Re: Your poems.
    1. I dont know anything about you. But may I suggest that you contact Richard “Lowdown” Hoad, social commentator, who might highlight your poems for publication
    2. He did somehing like that for Janelle Joseph for her book: “Cockerel (I think) is king.” I know them both. Any good cause or talent should be showcased.
    3. I used to tech Literature and applied aspects of “Mort D’Arthur” (Tennyson) to what happened in USA. (sic). “The old order changeth yeilding place to new. And God fulfils Himself in many ways, lest one BAD custom should corrupt the world” (adapted)
    4. Good luck and God bless

  9. Responding to the recent statement made to the SUNDAY SUN by Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM Denis Kellman that Barbados had reached its population peak,
    ………………………………….
Is there a bigger political idiot than Kellman? I doubt it. Whenever he opens his mouth he spouts incredible nonsense.

Can Ambassador Kellman enlighten us on progress of fishing treaty with the Trinis? I didnt think so. Ten months of playing the arse.

Kellman is biding his time to further embarass Thompson.

  10. David,

Your headline sreams ” What is news worthy ?…since the Arbitrator and Courts of Barbados have ruled in my favour I am yet to receive JUSTICE in this case.

So starting today I will be launching a series of systematic attacks on properties owned by the NHC.

MAYHEM…….will replace JUSTICE in this land .

Then you can print the NEWS !!
