Can the Barbados Underground family help please?

Each year the Barbados Tourism Authority hosts a group of the most active British Tour Operators that produce business for us under the banner of Backin Barbados. This year it has been suggested that the group funds and participates in the painting of a suitable school.

Possibly one of the smaller primary schools!

As time is very limited we are trying to identify a suitable school, and where we could obtain all necessary permission from the Principal and Education authorities in the shortest period.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many Thanks

Adrian Loveridge

  1. Painting inside or out? St Joseph Primary was painted on the outside not long ago, but the inside is still dire.

  2. Lodge School. How good are these people at demolition?

    Wow!

When I solicited more than one Corporate entity in Barbados to do that I was met with the royal ignore.

Too little too late in my case.

  5. Adrian L it might be a good idea to give a Mathew Farley or Jeff Broome a call. They would obviously know where the needs are.

  6. I say ST. Elizabeth Primary. The sea salt flakes and peels the paint. It should be painted each and every year.

  7. St. Margaret’s could do with a paint job. It is a small rural primary school, with a dynamic new principal.

  8. Vauxhall Primary could do with a paint job. It is situated on Vauxhall Main Road, Christ Church. It lies between Sheraton Shopping Centre and the Globe Drive-In.

  9. I am plugging for South District Primary, a small school located in St George.

  10. South District Primary School is in awful condition when the rain falls it is hell oh hell Anon I with you!

  11. Adrian L, I don’t have any suggestions, but i just wanted to make you aware of the following article that appeared in last Sunday’s Boston Globe. I have never been on one of these trips but i read about them on Barbados photo gallery website. I think i am inclined to make them a part of my next trip back home.

    Adrian H.

    THANK YOU.

I had seen the article and its the second Patricia has written on Barbados.

Features like this are priceless for our tourism industry.
It gives people reasons to visit us.

Petra Roach’s idea about painting a school is also a great idea and I hope that we can convince those in authority to support it.
It bonds the UK Tour Operators meaningful contact with the destination and gives them even more reasons to send their clients.

I have emailed the Minister of Education today and I hope we can evade all the bureaucratic hurdles to make it happen.

    Thanks again.

  13. Get them to paint all the schools suggested above.

  14. The sad thing is, they all need painting on the outside, but need to be completely renovated on the inside, some of them are in a terrible state.

  15. This strikes me as a little bizarre. What relevance does painting a school have to tour operators, or the BTA for that matter ? It’s a laudable activity and I support the idea of “Backin’ Barbados” but surely something tourism-related that would support local communities would work harder to promote Barbados ? Not sure if you’ve been near the Morgan Lewis mill recently but for a unique attraction, the area is a disaster. Get them to clean it up and install a small shop to be staffed by local residents during the season. It would make sense, would be relevant to the operators, help the National Trust and support the local community. Just an idea.

That Bridgetown Fish Market is an eyesore in dire need of a paint job and hordes of tourist pass there daily. Let them paint that.

Where is Waiting in vain? Before elections he was posting about a scandal involving money with the Petra Roach woman.

What became of that WIV or was it an election gimmick?

  17. James, well said. How many tourists visit schools. We must have a continued link with tourists and the environment or Places of Interest that will be part of their moving around.

  18. I’m suggesting Sharon Primary in St. Thomas. It is a rather dark school and they are actually trying to beauatify their surroundings, but they need all the help they can get. Having the buildings painted would go a far way in giving the facelift it needs.

  19. Adrian H, You must tell the Boston Globe about Guyana, as we need a bit of US exposure to bring our fledgling tourism industry on line. My, I am a bit surprised that a British group has to come and paint a school in what is percieved as the shining star in the Caribbean. Like ayuh star diming or something, as in Guyana our Ministry of Education paints all of our schools, plus most of our school are concrete buildings. And you know there are 700 schools across Guyana plus 2 univesities, and 3 technical colleges. My, surprise, suprise, surprise.

    ===========================

There are more native born Guyanese living in the US and Canada than in Guyana. My preference really is to remind those Guyanese nationals living in Barbados about Guyana, that it still exist, and that it needs their help, and their presence back home. 🙂
