  2. @Hants June 8, 2017 at 9:54 AM “Infamous Bajan from 1914.”
    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/justice-story/wright-mare-massacre-frank-lloyd-home-article-1.1591522

    “They’d better let me live if they expect to find out something.”

    There was no trial. Carlton lived for only seven and a half more weeks, without uttering a meaningful word about the motive behind his rampage. All kinds of theories emerged. Some said that racial slurs tossed at Carlton by Brodelle had sparked the killer’s rage, while some speculated that it all had happened because Mamah had fired the Carltons. Others tried to put the blame on Wright, hinting that the massacre was a murder-for-hire arranged by the architect to rid himself of an unwanted lover. ”

    Questions: Why blame anybody except the only black foreign man who was present? Mr. Carlton had no reason to get rid of the Wright family and servants. Wright however the man of many children and even more women may well or may have wanted to rid himself of some of this “baggage.” Or he may have had enemies, perhaps many enemies,

    Please note that the house was rebuild, but burned down again 11 years later (Mr. Carlton was long dead by then). Am I the only one who thinks it very strange that the alomst new house of America’s most storied architect had bad electrical wiring? And by the way it was claimed that hundreds of thousands of art was destroyed in that second fire. I wonder was an insurance claim made?

    Something about this story doesn’t sit right with me. Bajans then or now are not known as mass murderers, especially the mass murderers of virtual strangers (he had only worked for the family for a few months.)

    But the mass murder of strangers? That strikes me as a very American thing to do.

    Maybe one of these days a scholar will discover the truth.

  3. @Sargeant June 2, 2017 at 12:56 AM “After reading this article about Sheena Rose some art lovers may tread a path to Barbados.”

  14. Woman dies following ATM shooting.

    If possible, avoid using an ATM after dark. If you must, choose one that is well lit and not in an isolated location

    As you leave the ATM, be aware of anything suspicious. If you think you are being followed, go to an area with a lot of people and call the police.

    Try to avoid using an ATM by yourself; take someone you trust with you or only use an ATM when others are around.

  15. @Hants

    Don’t even use this ATM during daylight hours.

  16. @David
    Don’t even use this ATM during daylight hours
    +++++++
    That statement gives me chills as you have implied that the simple act of completing a routine transaction during daylight hours can be injurious to one’s health. I use ATMs when I’m in Bim but they are in very public locations and I always have my wits about me. I used to access an FCIB unit located in Sheraton Plaza next to the FedEx office and it was closed/relocated to the interior of the complex. I often wonder if the move was logistics or if it was due to the numerous people who use to hang around the steps at the Eastern entrance to the mall and who have clear view of customers entering/exiting the enclosure.

  17. @Sargeant

    This branch is and has shown a vulnerability to robberies. Forget ATM!

  18. @ David,

    Thanks for the “warning”. Barbados is not like it used to be.

    Daylight robbery was not part of “we culcha”.

    Condolences to the family of the victim.

  19. @ David,

  31. @ David,

    Lots to discuss if you want to “diversify” from the current racially charged…….

    The devastation in some of the other islands. Will the government take Grenville Phillips seriously and enact a building code as a matter of urgency.

    It is reasonable to expect Barbados will be hit by a “Janet ” in the future.

  32. Yes Hants, there is a lot to discuss. Some times the BU household needs to come up for air. Today is one of those days.

  33. A tropical wave located about 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde
    Islands is producing disorganized cloudiness and showers.
    Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual
    development of this system, and a tropical depression will likely
    form early next week while it moves westward at around 15 mph across
    the tropical Atlantic.

    * Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent.
    * Formation chance through 5 days…high…70 percent.

    Another tropical wave, located south of the Cabo Verde Islands, is
    producing a large area of shower and thunderstorm activity. This
    system has become much better organized since yesterday and could
    become a tropical depression during the next couple of days before
    upper-level winds become less conducive for development. The
    disturbance is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward at 10
    to 15 mph across the far eastern tropical Atlantic for the next
    several days.

    * Formation chance through 48 hours…medium…60 percent.
    * Formation chance through 5 days…high…70 percent.
