Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

The blogmaster has provided a few matter of fact comments to describe a first impressions of members of the largest Cabinet in the history of Barbados. Ministers who did not face the electorate were given a pass. In fact unelected ministers in Cabinet (Shontal Munroe-Knight, Lisa Cummins, Jerome Walcott) add no special skills to Cabinet and have been selected for ‘other’ reasons.

Miss Santia Bradshaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works – her tenure to date is a failed implementation of education reform, chaos at the Licensing Authority and speculation about a $7,500.00 cheque.

Mr. Dwight Sutherland, Minister of Housing will be remembered so far for a bungled Chinese houses project initiated by his predecessor Minister William Duguid in 2021. In addition to continuing the policy of previous governments of carving up good agriculture land located in the heartland of Barbados.

Attorney General Dale Marshall has probably come under the most fire of ministers in Cabinet. Under his watch the case load in the Barbados Courts remains high, violent crime remains high. There has been no significant achievements that has led to change in law and order in Barbados.

Mr. Indar Weir, Minister of Agriculture does a good job of creating the perception he is a hard working minister, but, the food import bill has not declined significantly under his watch. The agriculture sector lacks resilience.

Minister Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Tourism presides over a sector benefitting from a resurgence in global travel. He can only be faulted because the sector continues to be affected by the lack of product development.

Minister of Finance

Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados will be remembered as one of our most popular prime ministers. She has done well to grow her international reputation. So far in her term she has been able to stablize the economy in the post DLP years from 2018. Her rule is plagued by a lack of visionary and revolutionary change.

Ms. Kay McConney, Minister of Education wins the label as the most controversial member of the Cabinet to date. The issue pundits speculated would have forced her removal from Cabinet, the IDB questionnaire affair, she survived it. It pays to have a close friend in high office.

Mr. Colin Jordan, Minister of Labour and Social Security goes about his job quietly, too quietly for many. He will be remembered so far for presiding over an NISS whose audited financial statements have been unavailable to withstand the scrutiny of the public and satisfy finanial managment best practice and the law.

Mr. Kerri Symmonds, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has largely operated in the shadow of Prime Minister Mottley. So far the blogmastersees his legacy as an ‘attack dog’ who relishes the job.

Mrs. Sandra Husbands,Minister of State Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (with responsibility for Higher Education, Technical and Vocational Training) many argue she should be the substantive minister of education. Seems to be a hard worker with a good gift of gab.

Ryan Straughn

Mr. Ryan Straughn, Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment the primary of the many financial actors in government responsible for implementing government’s Washington Consensus ideology.

Mr. Wilfred Abrahams, Minister of Home Affairs and Information. He must be remembered for the fiasco at the Government Industrial School. Did heads roll?

William Duguod

Mr. William Duguid,Minister of Planning and Development – Prime Minister’s Office and Senior Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for coordinating Infrastructural Projects and development commissions, minister with the longest title and should have been demoted after the failed Chinese houses project, instead he was promoted.

Ms.Marsha Caddle, Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology seems to be well intentioned. She has been tested in recent months because of government’s weak IT governance and systems.

Mr. Corey Layne, Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General (with focus on Crime Prevention) given the most difficult job in Cabinet. He has to execute plans that will need time to bear results but he will be measured today by an anxious public concerned about the increase in crime especially among the youth.

Mr. Kirk Humphrey,Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs needs to do more. Old people suffering more than at any time in our history in the opinion of the blogmaster.

Mr. Davidson Ishmael, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness sacked from the Innovation ministry after poor Trident ID implementation was transferred to Health. The PM must see something in him.

Mr. Charles Griffith,Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, government is doing all that it can to retain the St. John seat. Griffith will need to add significantly to his body of work

Adrian Forde

Mr. Adrian Forde,Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy needs to take a drive around Barbados while viewing it through an unfiltered lens.

These guys are just too slow. By now, Mia has flown to the moon and back.

I have been asking for data on cost and frequent flier miles for ages… It takes these guy ages to get an idea. The question has been waiting there for ages.

  2. @Hants
You need to locate an article on parking at airport. It has been a free-for-all for mumphs now. Paid parking brek down. Seems all the Hcar companies are now storing cars in the free parking. It’s 100% full 24×7.

  3. @JohnA
The NISSS, recently celebrated its first burfday. Still no idea what was transferred a year ago. You can’t make this stuff up.

  4. @BT
I am not addicted to BT (Brasstacks) like Hants is, but every now and then I tune in. I was surprised when I heard a list of old songs (some have to be 60 years old) being played. I couldn’t believe it. Who is the marketing genius that kills the golden goose and brings out a lame duck?

    @ TheO
Dat is what got Bushie ROTFLMBAO…

    Unbelievably idiotic.
Only explainable by a BB curse on our donkeys…

But then again if you make the error of switching to the channel that broadcast the Parliamentarians talking their weekly shiite, it begins to make sense (not literally of course).
If our leaders can PUBLICLY talk such nonsense, knowing that it is being recorded for public access, what do we expect from the remnants of 500 years of slavery-based, genocidal, evolutionary degradation….
Life is sweet if you understand the big picture, and you understand the context….

See if you can listen to DooShiite in Parliament this week talking about ‘protecting the poor’.
    LOL
What better plan is there than ‘steal houses’ for such protection….
    LOL

    @ Bush Tea

When “WIFEY” says that she does not want to live in Barbados – I have seen first hand what she means!!!

For me, I am quite happy to be a “BEACH BUM” – spending my “DAYZ” from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM lounging, sleeping, soaking & enjoying the accoutrements of a life under swaying mile trees & basking in turquoise blue water…

However, the reality of living your “BEST LIFE” involves a lot more than “SELFISH PURSUITS” in the vainglorious hope of building “SAND CASTLES” for one or maybe 2, to be occupied without a care in the world!!!

Visiting Grenada & Carriacou, I discovered that our people need help rebuilding homes & houses – washed away by the surging storms of life!!!

There are folks with deep pockets who can “COUGH UP” a £1MIL or “MORE” & can provide logistical support to move goods & services at the touch of a phone call to people who need it the most (beginning with my church who have some $600 BILLION under management)!!!

So 2025 begins a “MARATHON” of fundraising & other meaningful projects to help wherever possible, given the mounting needs…

Vanuatu was just struck with a 7.3 earthquake followed by a 6.1 aftershock leaving the country wheeling & 2025 has not even arrived – as Church brethren are crying out for international help!!!

MEANTIME, I CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR BARBADOS – FOR THAT’S ALL I CAN DO

Barring a “MAJOR CALAMITY” to hit the island, “NOTHING IS REALLY GONNA’ CHANGE”!!!

The “CORRUPTION” is “BAKED IN” – leaving conditions “HARDER THAN A LEAD PIPE”!!!

The people are completely apathetic – so “CHANGE” is “NIGH IMPOSSIBLE”!!!

The “BALLOT BOX” resembles the new “LOADMASTER GARBAGE TRUCKS” rolling off the Bridgetown Port on Thursday 12th Dec – while I sat there in a hired car watching “MILLIONS” of dollars spent on garbage disposal units, in a country that is 166 sq. miles – generating more “TRASH” than most major countries given its size!!!

I watched “BROAD STREET” (a pale shade of its former glory) reduced to a backwater, colonial street of the 1940s & 50s – where Cave Shepherd is more “STAFFED” by locals than by tourists or shoppers!!!

Harrison’s on lower Broad Street has its 2 doors closed and at either end sits 1 VAGRANT* at each door (as if royal patronage is now the domain of paupers & beggars)!!!

    WHAT A VISUAL

Swan Street resembles in the words of the “LATE COOLIO” – a GANGSTAZ PARADISE), where everything & everyone is “HUSTLING” everything imaginable, (commodities seen & THOSE NOT SEEN*)!!!

Beautiful “BUXOM” Bajan women are like thorough-bred horses on parade, where every vein & muscle bulges in search of gratification & satisfaction given the “RATIO” of women 2 men (they have their pick of who is the “SUGAR DADDY” OR “DADDIES”)!!!

In a country of some 300K (census figures or NOT*), what is “PATENTLY TERMINAL” is the amount of “CARS” versus people – given the unsustainable nature of such environmental conditions & the havoc that plays on the health & wellbeing of people locked in such a cauldron of suffocation!!!

After my first night, I had to beware of being “AMBUSHED” by a “CONGALINE” – either at “OISTIN’S”, (where I spent a lot of my life, next door to Foundation School – there in that little enclave called Cane Vale); to “CARS” snaked around the many “CHEFETTES” & “KFCs” – all in search of a “POUND OF FLESH” or whatever “SALT & SUGAR” was available to satisfy the “NIGGLING VASCULAR URGE & THIRST FOR MORE MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE UPTAKE”!!!

The sociology on the ground in that “LIL COUNTRY” is worthy of a PhD Thesis & “NO HOLDS SHOULD BE BARRED” in pulling apart the “MOTH-EATEN FABRIC” of a society that have clearly lost its way & has adopted a form of “NEO-AMERIKKKAN” progressivism that leads to only one place – “MORE SICKNESS”, MORE MENTAL HEALTH DECLINE, MORE MURDERS, MORE MORAL DECLENSION & ULTIMATELY, MORE SOCIETAL FRACTURE) – until everything completely disintegrates into nothingness!!!

IF A COUNTRY IS LED BY DONKEYS – AND THE JACKASSES ONLY BRAY NIGHT & DAY, WHAT WOULD ANYONE EXPECT OF THE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THEM

    #WhatHopelessness

    #WhatDickensianApathy

    #WhatDystopicIntrigue

I listen to DtBT to hear the voice of a female who calls in frequently.

  9. @Terrance Blackett “Beautiful “BUXOM” Bajan women are like thorough-bred horses on parade, where every vein & muscle bulges in search of gratification & satisfaction given the “RATIO” of women 2 men (they have their pick of who is the “SUGAR DADDY” OR “DADDIES”)!!!

Are you certain that it is not you “in search of gratification & satisfaction?” You seem to be noticing we Bajan women far too much.

And what ratio of men to women are you talking about? Barbados’ male/female ratio is no different from that of other places. More boys are born, but since males are the weaker sex more boys than girls die in childhood, EXACTLY the same as the rest of the world. By 18 there are slightly more females than males. By old age that is 65 and older there are significantly more females than males, because again men are the weaker sex, less likely to seek early medical attention and more likely to smoke [everything] and more likely to drink heavily [like everywhere else in the world]

And if you think that Bajan women over 65 are looking for a man you have another think coming, because we know that wunna just looking for a nurse with a purse, and we have nursed your children, you, your parents, our parents, and we dun wid dat. We are not looking for any old man who expects us to wash, cook, clean and change his diapers.

    We dun.

  10. No more time for BU today, nor for Brass Tacks either, Must continue my window cleaning if the sun instead of the rain cooperates.

  11. @TB
You missed the former HO of the BMLAS. I hear it’s been vacant for years. Didn’t they donate to the UWI in return for multiple honourary doctorates? Or was that just to get rid of the “Bridgetown Club”?
But don’t be too harsh. 275,000 live happily there. Even if blissfully ignorant they are ‘gettin bred’, for so are many of us elsewhere.

  12. @SS
You need that new glass which is automatically cleaned by the rain?

  13. The sheeple abound!

For we now know with certainty that the United Nations has incontrovertible evidence, proof, that Covid-19 was an American deep state project.

A project aimed at precisely the outcome which the West is aiming for in Ukraine, West Asia and generally throughout the world – the maintenance of hegemony.

Indeed such proofs, as argued at the time by some under the project’s scathing and global condemnations, even as more than 100 million died from exposure to their biological weapon of mass destruction known as Covid-19.

Within the last few days, Igor Kirilov the lead Russian general heading the investigation and who submitted the report to the UN was also assassinated in Moscow by agents of Ukrainian intelligence services. Services totally sponsored by the Western countries.

How could it be possible that the whole world would have been so deceived for so long, on the one hand, and on the other that the Americans still could, with a straight face, walk around the world pretending that they and they alone are the one exceptional even if supremely criminal state?

Where is Washington’s plaything in Barbados who shamelessly supported the genocide of Bajans even after reports came out that there were deep concerns?

Are these crimes not to be subject to the mushroom-headed, hypersonic, oreshnik, deckie?

More seriously, are the sheeple amongst us who, even with this threat to their own lives, still lack the courage, intestinal fortitude, to see these Devils as Satans, thereby rejecting all they have ever brought?

  14. @Cuhdear,
You put fear in the heart of old men like me.
You take no prisoners. Where ourselves as partners you can talk and travel with and growing older together … you see us as someone who will be totally dependent on you.

If we are wearing diapers, wouldn’t older women have the same or a similar issue?
Madam, you are right… You are no ‘nurse with a purse’ … a ‘curse with a purse’ may be fitting.

Ease up on the bashing and find yourself a smart and loving oldster.

  15. Women usually partner with men who are slightly older. If men also deteriorate faster, that is more likely to lead to women taking care of men for a number of years before HE dies.

    Tee hee!

But I do agree, we could do without the constant bashing. Men do take care of women also.

  24. ‘150 houses by May7

BY MAY 2025 all 150 of the East-West houses should be completed says Minister of Housing Dwight Sutherland.

He gave that projection yesterday during the official opening of Solaris Court at Whitepark Road, St Michael.

During the opening, he provided an update on Government’s 10 000 homes project including the steel housing units being constructed by Chinese labourers through the East-West Project.

So far, 95 out of the 150 houses that were promised in 2021 have been completed with 16 located at the Solaris Court.

“Over a three-year period, a total of 1 337 housing solutions were provided. Of these, the public sector accounted for 974 and the private sector accounted for 349 housing solutions. The provision of housing solutions by the public sector was attained under the East-West Project, HOPE Inc, NHCs Joint Venture programme, the Hurricane Elsa project and the Ministry’s Relocation Projects.

“Solaris Court is one of the sites that fall under the East-West project. This project will see the provision of 150 housing solutions, inclusive of single detached units, quadruplexes (quads) and duplexes. To date, 95 housing solutions have been completed under this project, inclusive of 23 housing solutions to persons impacted by Hurricane Elsa at various locations,” Sutherland said.

He also said another 22 units were at various stages of completion at Bullens, St James, Sargeants Village, Christ Church and River Crescent, St Philip.

“The remaining 33 units (25 foundations) will be constructed at Dodds North and are projected to be completed by May 2025. These units will be offered for sale through the National Housing Corporation,” he added.

During the opening, he recalled that the project was heavily scrutinised, noting they did the best they could despite the supply chain and expertise challenges.

“We stood at Haggatt Hall and we were carried through a gruesome exercise by the media. At that time we had no Chinese labour. We were trying to get Chinese labour. We tried to get labour out of South East Asia and we didn’t achieve that. Visas were an issue. There was an increase in cost as result of these challenges and setbacks we had.

“We had to train our local contractors and that is why the project took so long. Then we had issues with supply chain management. I said that back then at that time we only had 23 built,” he added.

NHC officials including general manager Ian Gill and Member of Parliament for the City Corey Lane were among those who attended the opening.

Lane said the housing increase was welcomed and he encouraged the NHC team to continue this work.

In addition to victims of Hurricane Elsa, five families who lost their homes to the fire at Wellington Street were relocated to Solaris Court.

Among them were Charmaine Mars, Francesca Cornibert-Daniel and Sandra Nurse.

“It is better than living in the road. I am thankful,” Nurse said. (TG)

  25. Cuhdear Bajan,

TB’s post annoyed me first on another matter, proudly declaring that his wife does not want to live in Barbados. As if Whitemanland is in any way better! We KNOW the mess that they are in.
In fact, we are only following their playbook.

White rule aka old time racism has come back again in the pubs, clubs, playgrounds and places of work.

Barbados is a black polka dot against a white background despite it’s demographics which are white polka dots against a black background. At least Mia puts her loud voice to good use to moan about the Babylonian system of World Politics.

This last happened sometime mid 2022…. so…

Bushie has to concede however, that the shiite men are EVEN WORSE!
Fat, unkempt, big-bellied, weak-looking, BBs – typically driving expensive imported chariots belonging to the foreign banks – while paying PREMIUM interest rates on the consumer loans…. and eating fast foods, corned beef and ramen.

Focused on chasing the trivia of life, while foreigners own and control EVERYTHING from our food, energy, insurance, banks, hotels, telecommunications – even our politicians…. who are thus FOCUSED to transferring EVERYTHING ELSE over to foreign ownership – just like we were in the days of plantation slavery.

    What a damned place..

Following Hurricane Elsa in 2021, the government sought to purchase 150 light gauge steel-frame houses, but delays in shipping and labour-related issues, including visa and paperwork challenges for contractors, caused significant setbacks. The project also faced substantial cost overruns, rising from an estimated $23.64 million to $52.72 million.”

The budget didn’t fully reflect the unforseen impending challenges. It required upward adjustment.
To besides, many local artisans and craftpersons, have been trained in the fine art of steel stud construction. This is priceless.
And the matter was fully investigated by the Auditor General. Hence will not be investigated by any PAC, as dictated by the Senator who recently received the islands highest honour.

  44. HOPE project still alive, says minister

Minister of Housing and Lands Dwight Sutherland says that despite some challenges, they are keeping HOPE (Home Ownership Providing Energy) alive.

“HOPE Inc., a state-owned enterprise, is the agency primarily responsible for constructing houses on behalf of the Government. This agency has constructed 146 houses at Vespera Gardens, Lancaster, St James, of which 75 houses were handed over, with keys having been already delivered to 60 homeowners.

“HOPE Inc. also completed 11 Dura Villa houses at the Clifden, St Philip location. These houses were handed over to the National Housing Corporation and to date 11 houses have been assigned and keys handed over,” he said during the official opening of Solaris Court, Whitepark Road, St Michael, on Wednesday.

“There are currently building another 27 Dura Villa houses at River Crescent in St Philip, of which ten of the houses are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.”

On Tuesday, during the debate in the House of Assembly, Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne charged that Vespera Gardens was a “scandal of a failed project on which $60 million was spent for bad work”, with artisans now having to be paid $3 000 a week to fix that “bad work”.

“Government is covering up its embarrassment in having wasted $60 million of the taxpayers’ dollars, and are now adding hundreds of thousands of dollars more, possibly millions, to make good a failed project.”

HOPE borrowed $60 million from the Housing Credit Fund at 1.5 per cent interest.

Thorne also claimed that the promised renewable energy installations on those homes had not come to light.

“Those houses that are occupied at Lancaster were all supposed to have on their roofs photovoltaic systems so that the [Barbados] Light & Power bills would have been low . . . . The only ones that carry photovoltaic systems are the show houses – I think about three of them. So that is another aspect of that project [which] has failed . . . .”

Back in March during the Budget Debate, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley ordered a full investigation into every aspect of the housing programme being executed by HOPE Inc., and if any corruption was found, it would be dealt with, after Thorne had raised the matter. The results of that probe have yet to be made public.

Sutherland admitted that since HOPE had been launched, there were some “mistakes” and some delays, including at the Pool, St John site. However, he added, they were about to get back on track.

“We all have challenges. We have solved most of the problems that we had with HOPE. We are soon to restart the project at Pool in St John where we have Town Planning approval for the site.

“Last year this time, we had none. We have done the environmental impact assessment study that was required by Planning and Development and we are ready to go. We are now at the stage of sending out tenders to complete the road infrastructure,” he explained.

The minister said work was also progressing at HOPE’s Fustic, St Lucy site where 92 houses are to be constructed.

“Yes, the Prime Minister has asked for an investigation into HOPE. A team will look at that. I am not telling you that mistakes weren’t made. Who am I to tell you that we don’t make mistakes, but we are looking to the future [and] HOPE is here to stay,” Sutherland said. (TG)

Sometimes it is better to admit a wrong step and move on by explaining what corrective actions will be taken and reporting on the progress in the action plan. Fortunately for our politicians they are not held to account by a majority of citizens and civil society and can say and do as they please. Sometimes the blogmaster will ponder if these politicians think about the legacy they will leave behind for their children, families to be proud of.

The blogmaster invites you to join the discussion.
