The Barbados Medical Council is accused of discriminating against graduates of the world renowned Latin American School of Medicine [ELAM].

A letter to the Barbados Medical Council (BMC) which is circulating on social media has highlighted the discriminatory policy that this organisation adopts to Barbadian medical students who complete their studies in Cuba. The writer states that he is the father of a student who has completed his medical studies in Cuba. His letter reads:
“I need Answers from the Barbados Medical Board.
Eight years ago my Son left Barbados to study medicine in Cuba, where he graduated top of his class.
Upon returning home, he was told by the Medical Board, that they do not recognize Medical Graduates from Cuba.
Would you believe he was told that in order for him to work in Barbados.
He have to attend medical school in Jamaican for 18 months.
These same studies that he has to do in Jamaica were already covered in Cuba.
These are my Questions to the Medical Board.
