Many are following the breaking story in the United States of America the decision of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to file articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Say what you will about the world’s sole super power, it is a country that allows nothing to go unchallenged. There are learnings for Barbados with the long awaited new Constitution stuck in draft.

Articles of impeachment filed against two US Supreme Court

Another matter of interest is the battle for the presidency between a septuagenarian and an octogenarian, Donald Trump is 78 years old and Joe Biden 81. Obviously Biden should be at home sitting on a recliner sipping cocoa and narrating his memoirs. Instead he, like minority Leader of the Senate Mitch McConnell continue to compromise government by refusing to demit office given poor health.

Unfortunately although Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records by US courts, he remains qualified to run for the office of President of the United States of America. The blogmaster does not have the brain capacity to comprehend why the law would allow a convicted citizen to run for the highest office. 

The dilemma for voters may come to a case of “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe”.

How does this relate to Barbados? We need to file against a few judges sitting on the Barbados bench. If Barbadians refuse to participate in government, we will end up with political candidates not worthy. Are we there yet?

    Who cares?

    The Legislature makes laws. The Executive puts those laws into effect and plans policy. The Judiciary administers justice by interpreting the law when its meaning is in dispute, ensuring the law is upheld.

    Problem is both the Courts and Government are politically corrupted

    The lesson / challenge for Barbados and it’s new Republic and Constitution formation is to avoid the abuse of power that is inherent in USA

    Their Presidents will need a Doctor / human mechanic

    Not so that the Democrats are more dysfunctional than the Republicans. Their problem is that the incumbent is assumed to have the right to be the nominee. I know that Joe Biden put it out there in 2020 that he would only be a one-term president. But it seems that Kamala Harris has turned out to be not that popular. How do you bypass her though without causing offence to certain voters?

    Identity politics and adherence to convention has them in a bind. It is difficult for them to know what to do at this late stage.

    This is the second time that they may very well be handing the presidency over to that lunatic Trump.

    The first time was in 2016. Hillary was a woman and also considered next in line. A plastic woman with zero charm, an unrelatable elitist, an entitled person who looks down on people. But identity politics and convention kept Bernie Sanders out. Well along with his “too far left” mindset.

    But could you say that they are more dysfunctional than Trump? Ridiculous!

    As mentioned before that impeachment filed against Thomas will go nowhere in a majority Republican house. Notice AOC is asking the AG to appoint a special prosecutor but Thomas is a smart cookie notice in he wrote a separate piece in his dissent in the Immunity decision – stating that the AG’s appointment of Jack Smith is illegal- something that was never brought up in the oral argument but it echoes what other Republicans and the Florida judge ( Cannon) wondered aloud about.

    Everyone should have a sugar daddy like Thomas imagine as soon as he received confirmation as an associate judge on the SC a billionaire came out of the woodwork as a “friend” and lavished him with luxuries – he even bought Thomas’s mothers house and repaired it and allowed her to live in it rent free.

    Thomas is the darling of the right because he goes out of his way to piss off liberals to no end.

As someone stated above this would spell trouble for the Democrats with Kamla heir apparent. Is she willing to also step aside for the sake of party?

    I heard all about the bribery after the fact decision, Clarence Thomas’ convenient and timely Special Council opinion and obviously, about the Harlan Crowe genie who appeared immediately after Thomas was appointed to the Supreme Court, granting his every wish.

    It makes perfect sense that the only black man Republicans would ever have nominated for such a post, would bebone who could ne easilyvbought, one who would also sell out black people, one who would make black people look bad. He’s not the only corrupt justice, but he is the most corrupt.

    What a mess!

    It’s going to be a very uncertain period for a world that revolves around the United States of America.

    Sometimes I manage to raise enough hope that it will be a pivotal moment, away from the dominance of the USA and on to a multipolar world, but then I look at human beings and think of the revolutionary pigs in Animal Farm.

    That this is mid July and we’re at 27 when the annual average is around 30 may portend a deeper level of problems.

    Substantively, what is happening within the USA, on all fronts, are clear signs of the collapse of empire.

    These data points can only be best understood with a reference to the literature on this topic.

    For none of their problems have solutions absent such a well deserved fall. Indeed, empire’s decline and failure being hope for Barbados as all this odious debt weeee have will be removed from the system.

    Indeed, the Americans themselves are not looking to repay anybody.

    There are no good or redeemable characters here.

    For whereas AOC pretends to be leftist, a person who pretended to bring a higher level of political morality to Congress, she’s turned out to be yet another swamp creature, like is mandatory for mere survival.

    Given the variations between biological age and numeric age it will be difficult to see and real differences between a 78 year old and an 80 something year old.

    And even if an argument is proffered in that regard weee will rejoined by drawing on the ineptitud and lack of any achievements beyond tax cuts for the one percenters of Trump the first time around.

    Biden is a corpse in wait!

    All these and more well constructed narratives of distraction to blind us to the fact that regardless of whom Americans vote for ………….. John MaCain keeps winning, the adage.

    And while these narratives continue to make American publics amongst the most ignorant in the world the real game as to who is to be the servants of capital shall proceed at pace within smoke-filed rooms.

    Kamala Harris will probably fight tooth and nail for her shot at becoming president, even if it is a long shot.

    I am forced to ask you the same comprehension question you ask others. I wrote “appearing to be”.
    Possibly one can say this is how their system is supposed to work?
    Cognitive decline awaits us all if we live long enough. As the blogmaster highlighted, the Senate Minority leader has displayed similar decline, but will not step down.
    There are several positions for which there is no mandatory retirement age.
    The entire shift of their Supreme Court begins with RBGs refusal to step aside during her many illnesses, even when begged to do so, and Obama had control. Hers were physical vs cognitive.
    People are living longer. Society must readdress certain rules or lack thereof.

    The process of #Impeachment is outlined in Article I, Section 2, Clause 5, & Article II, Section 4!!!

    The House of Representatives (CONTROLLED BY THE REPUBLICAN) has the “SOLE POWER” to impeach Federal officials, including Supreme Court Justices. To initiate impeachment proceedings, a majority vote is required in the House to pass articles of impeachment, which are formal charges outlining the alleged misconduct!!!

    The SENATE” has the sole power to try impeachments. If the House passes articles of impeachment, the case is sent to the #Senate4Trial. A two-thirds majority vote is required to convict & remove the official from office!!!

    The impeachment process typically involves the following steps:

    INVESTIGATION: The House Judiciary Committee conducts an investigation into the alleged misconduct, gathering evidence and holding hearings

    ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT: The House Judiciary Committee drafts and votes on articles of impeachment, which are then sent to the full House for consideration

    HOUSE VOTE: The House votes on the articles of impeachment. A majority vote is required to pass the articles

    SENATE TRIAL: If the House passes the articles of impeachment, the case is sent to the Senate for trial

    SENATE VOTE: The Senate holds a trial, with each side presenting evidence and arguments. A two-thirds majority vote is required to convict and remove the official from office

    The impeachment of SUPREME COUR JUSTICES has been rare and controversial. The most notable example is the impeachment of Associate Justice Samuel Chase in 1804, which was ultimately unsuccessful!!

    In recent years, there have been efforts to impeach Supreme Court Justices (UNCLE) Clarence Thomas & Samuel Alito, citing alleged ethical lapses & conflicts of interest & now over the ruling handed out regarding “PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY”. However, these efforts have been met with opposition from Republicans & are unlikely to succeed in the current political climate!!!

    The impeachment of Supreme Court Justices is a serious & complex process, requiring a careful balancing of “CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES” & political considerations. While the process is outlined in the Constitution, its application has been subject to interpretation & controversy over the years!!!

    Most Democrats at first underestimated Joe Biden’s decline. It has been rapid. Now, at this last minute, they find themselves in a right pickle. How to remove Joe Biden with an unpopular vice-president waiting in the wings? After the initial shock of the damaging “debate” they realised that there is no easy way of the situation. Republicans are lining up to challenge any process of replacement, and so now they are hoping that Americans will see that even a dodgy old Biden is better than a madman Trump. Apparently, he can still listen to advisors and make decisions. Debating is not a presidential function.

    I would vote for a dying Biden over an insane Trump. And I can’t stand Biden. It’s the genocide for me.

    Unfortunately for America, I think perhaps that Democrats overestimate the intelligence of “the American people”.

    Is the way things work in the USA

    A document making the rounds as authored by conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation even as Trump himself has attempted to distance himself therefrom.

    Part of the secret sauce.

    The Heritage Foundation clearly supports the Republicans but more importantly they are primary in preparing the ground for arch conservative supreme judges like Alito and Thomas.

    Also and most importantly, while Heritage is so bent it is not beyond them to use the Democrats to deliver objectives inimical to the interests of the most reliable supporters of the DNC – Afrikan-Americans and Afrikan-American women in particular.

    Recall how Bill Clinton was used by these same conservative forces to deeply taper welfare with Hilary telling us how Black men were predators.

    Obama was the same thing,

    Again recall how Obama bailed out crooked banks who sold junk mortgages which brought the system under an existencial crisis while not a single banker going to jail.

    Obama at the same time presided over the largest diminution of Black wealth in America. And fools saw Clinton as the first ‘Black’ president while Obama shuk and jived himself across the political stage as if America is not as racist today as 250 years ago.

    Look to Project 2025. We’re sure you’ll find ideas that squeeze workers. The advancement in the curtailment of aspects of the administrative state like a Steve Banning proffered.

    That Trump attempts to distance himself from this document can only be a function of trying to maintain the 10 to 20 percent of Black votes he stands to garner as additional pressure against whomever he runs against.

    Late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg in 2018 took a trip to Israel compliments of billionaire Morris Kahn, who had business before the court just a year earlier.

    Late Justice Antonin Scalia took at least 258 subsidized trips while he was on the court and he was on one when he suddenly died in 2016.

    Scalia’s more-liberal colleague, retired Justice Stephen Breyer, took at least 225 subsidized trips between 2004 and 2016. They include a 2013 trip to the exclusive island of Nantucket compliments of private-equity billionaire David Rubenstein, Gabe Roth, executive director of the group Fix the Court, reported.

    Those were some of the 1,309 trips Supreme Court justices took compliments of others between 2004 and 2019, according to a list compiled by the watchdog group Open Secrets. That’s nine trips per justice, per year, and it’s unlikely they stayed at the Holiday Inn on most of them.

    And those are just the ones that justices disclosed. It’s unclear how many — like decades of Thomas’ travels — have been unreported, or whether the justices will suffer any consequences for not reporting them.”
