  3. Everybody got their version of what should be done
If the dlp Constitution was written in clear andvl full context
The many ongoing problems would not exist
There should be a cooling off period at this time until the judges final ruling is heard

THE “HONOURABLE BIBLE” ACCORDING TO DLP SANSKRIT

If I were a #ConspiractTheorist instead of being a #ConspiracyRealist, I would surely “BELIEVE” that “MONSTROSITY FOR A FREEMASON TEMPLE ON THE HILL AT ST GEORGE” has been the creation of “AVOWED SATANISTS” on the isle of “LOS BARBADOS” whose life-work is to “SUBVERT” #Decency, “RIGHTEOUSNESS” & “MORAL GARVITAS” in favour of moral turpitude!!!

My beautiful island Barbados according to late Emile Straker of “MERRYMEN FAME” is now a “FARCE” for a cuntry!!!

The “DEVILS LYING PERSISTENTLY” (#DLP) IS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DAMN COIN OF THE “BASTERDS LIVING PUGNACIOUSLY” (#BLP) – ALL OF ‘EM A BUNCH OF “SELF-SERVATIVES” LIVING HIGH ON THE HOG!!!

The moral condition of the world is a “STINKING CESSPOOL OF FILTH” the likes of which must eventually incite the “WRATH OF GOD” upon a planet dead-set on having its own – a road that leads to only one place: “HELL”!!!

Quoting from the #MysteryDocument called the “BLACK NOBILITY”:

“The New World Order is a conspiracy of lineage at the top. They are ancient and evil bloodlines that build and destroy empires for control through an order out of chaos. Royal and noble houses are corporate entities and claim to rule and own land, resources, and people…”

“These families are all enemies of humanity and have conspired to enslave the world for centuries. They authorize and create corporations and billionaires, run religions, states, secret societies, the mafia, and organized crime syndicates…”

“Criminal organizations such as Royalty itself, Royal Institutions, The Society of Jesus, The Black Monks, The Hellfire Club, The Templar Orders, FREEMASONRY*, The Grand Orient of France, The York Rite, The Scottish Rite, Prince Masonry of Prince Hall, Shriners International, The Royal Order of Jesters, The Cabal Society, Chabad, Scientology, Skull & Bones, The Boulé Society, The 5% Nation, The Nation of Islam, Black Israelites, The Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), The Temple of Set, The Church of Satan, Rosicrucian, Golden Dawn, Opus Dei, Mormons, Knights of Columbus, The Bohemian Club, Knights of Phintias, Ancient Order of Druids, Wicca, Santeria, Obeah, Voodoo, Sufism, Greek Fraternities and Brotherhoods, New Age and Gnostic Cults, Nazi Cults, KKK, Mafias, Prison Gangs, Biker Gangs and Street Gangs…”

“The Rockefeller family uses their charitable foundations to fund harassment gangs and bribery in the United States, as well as globalization agendas and vaccination programs…”

“Hollywood, the Church of Scientology, and Silicon Valley are military operations like the US DARPA agency and run by European royalty and nobles like the Oettingen-Spielbergs, Schaumburg-Lippes, Anhalts, Hanovers, Windsors, Passi di Preposulos, Ruspolis, Torlonias and Odescalchis…”

“The Ferragamo family is also involved in the management and financing of corruption in Hollywood. The House of Nassau-Weilberg, which is married to the Torlonias, funds human trafficking and human sacrifice in Hollywood…”

“Idols in the entertainment industry are a dangerous cult with leaders who have access to electronic weapons. Most of modern electronics is being broadcast covertly with GENESIS and NEURON bio-piracy software controlled by Kabbalists and Scientologists…”

“European monarchies function as extensions of Rome and run secret societies that infiltrate government agencies and run corporations for monarchs…”

“The Bavarian Wittelsbach family from Bavaria created the Bavarian Illuminati and administers the Benedictine Monks and is also part of the Jewish Mafia in the United States who are white collar criminals. The House of Wittelsbach is involved with Zionism, Nazism, Freemasonry, and the Society of Jesus…”

“Court Jews such as the Rothschild, Warburg, Goldsmith, Oppenheimer, Walton, Sassoon, Kadoorie, Lewis, Javal, Lauder, Sackler and Dreyfus families work through the Roman Vatican Curia or royal courtrooms such as Buckingham Palace…”

“The French Rothschilds work for the Black Nobility of Rome and the French House of Orleans. The British Rothschilds work for the British Crown. The Sassoon and Kadoorie families work for the British Crown and oversee banking and business in China and India. The Swiss Rothschilds work for the House of Habsburg and the House of Hesse.

“The Oppenheimers work for the German House of Württemberg and the Cologne Oppenheim branch. the Austrian House of Habsburg granted them titles of nobility…”

“The Warburgs work for the Italian House of Borghese and the German House of Hesse and the House of Hanover. Warburg Pincus had a contract with Unicredit that merged with the Borghese Family’s Bank of the Holy Spirit. The Warburgs were Venetian bankers and the Borghese family now hold Venetian titles of nobility. The Warburgs financed the Nazis…”

“The Dreyfus family works for the Dutch House of Orange-Nassau and the French House of Bonaparte…”

“Jewish banking families work for Christian nobles and royalty. These billionaire Jewish bloodlines run many rabbis who run a criminal intelligence network that works with Mossad…”

  6. “Two top Dems are MIA. Why?
As the Democratic Labour Party’s internal battle reached the boiling point only to be quelled by the Supreme Court, key players are missing from either side of the divide. Or even if they declare that they are neutral, they are missing still.
While those who are visible and on the frontline on either side are readily known and mentioned either in legitimate media stories or on social media, some, who people are kind to in public, have gone MIA (Missing in Action).
Even in the midst of a legal battle, a well-known legal eagle cannot be heard or seen. Where is former minister, DLP stalwart Michael Lashley KC, the DLP’s first vicepresident, who should really have been named interim president? Given the executive post he now holds and his years of political experience, why was he not named interim president? Conversely, if he is on the side of the executive of which he is a part, why hasn’t he offered up his legal skills to help Ricardo ‘Laker’ Williams in his bid to get the president and general secretary to resume their roles? Lashley is known for being the legal face in many high-profile and controversial cases in Barbados. He is easily seen as Barbados’ Johnnie Cochran. How then would he fight for justice for the average Bajan but not lend his profile to a case that concerns the future and livelihood of the party of which he is a part? His career was bolstered by his association with the party, the years he spent in opposition and the decade as a government minister. To me, he owes the institution more than a mute at this critical stage.
Lashley must know that his absence and the absence of his voice have not gone unnoticed. Since DLP’s political leader Ralph Thorne crossed the floor, Lashley spoke at a meeting at Ellerslie held days after Thorne’s swearing-in.
But at that time, he said nothing publicly about Thorne’s membership or leadership.
However, since the widened party divide and power struggle has been made public, we are still to hear from him on the controversial issue. We are keen to hear him since he holds a key role as first vice-president. Other party stalwarts have weighed in on the issue making it clear where they stand left, right or neutral. Ronald Jones, Donville Inniss, Richard Sealy, David Estwick, Haynesley Benn, and Maxine McClean we have heard from.
Will he ever publicly state his position about Thorne’s leadership, Yearwood’s leadership, or even about the current affairs of the party? Another legal mind who is missing constantly is Senator Tricia Watson. We only hear from the goodly senator when the Senate is called or on matters about Light & Power rates. I am well aware that had it not been for a question posed by a journalist during her swearing-in at State House, we would not have known that she was a member of the DLP. But where is she and how is her presence felt politically outside of the Upper House? Her absence is so blatant. She was on a poster for the Christ Church zone meeting at St Christopher School; she was a no-show. She was to be at the first official press conference of the opening of the office of the Leader of the Opposition in April; she was a no-show. She was on the poster for Sunday’s zone meeting at The St Michael School; again, she was a no-show. Has she offered the masses any sort of explanation or apology for this series of absences? I watch the House and Senate each time there is a debate, and even when she is in Parliament she is either late, contributes and disappears or does not come at all.
As a senator, appointed by Thorne, what is her take on his leadership? Where does she stand as it relates to the internal wranglings? Is party politics beneath her? Does she see her place as only in the Parliament? Surely she must know she is part of a wider team and the business of the party should be her concern as well.
Yes, these two, Lashley and Watson, have national profiles that are not related to party politics. However, it is party politics that is needed now more than ever.
If either intends to face the electorate at any time in the future, they must know the state of affairs in George Street will have an impact on their performance.
They must know that you have to interface with party colleagues and rank-and-file members of the party.
These two should be on the party frontline propelling the institution and clearly representing the interest of the party.
They are occupying key political real estate which the DLP can ill afford to waste at this time. There is much to be done in the DLP and it is no secret that it will call for hard work, commitment and dedication.

Yearwood breaks silence on DLP impasse amid mediation efforts

Suspended DLP President, Dr. Ronnie Yearwood, has issued his first statement on the impasse in the party since the High Court issued an interim ruling that keeps his suspension in place for the time being.

The High Court ruling is pending a final decision on a legal challenge to the decision by the DLP’s General Council to suspend Dr. Yearwood and General Secretary, Steve Blackett.

In his statement, Dr. Yeawood extends gratitude to those who he says have shown concern for him and his family.

He describes the past five months as a period of reflection for him as DLP President and as a time of turmoil for the party.

Dr. Yearwood says he remained silent publicly out of commitment to resolving matters internally and upholding the dignity of the DLP.

Meantime, Starcom Network News understands that efforts are underway to mediate a truce between the DLP’s feuding factions whose dispute has spilled over into the law courts.

We understand key DLP stalwarts have been trying to bring together the two factions involved in the DLP leadership struggle with at least one meeting having been recently scheduled and then aborted.

Efforts continue to try to schedule such peace talks with some DLP interests aiming for a deal that rallies all sides behind Ralph Thorne as political leader while allowing Dr. Yearwood to remain President with the intention of having the two collaborate on any future DLP election campaign.

  11. What is Barbados’ national design?

Last Sunday, our country had the privilege of listening to both Dr George Belle and Dr Tennyson Joseph on Brass Tacks Sunday providing expert insight into the latest political developments in Barbados. Dr Belle is Dean Emeritus, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of The West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus.

Dr Joseph is the former Head of the Department of Government, The UWI, Cave Hill and currently associate professor of political science at North Carolina Central University. Dr Joseph is also Dr Belle’s student. It is always a unique event where student and master – eminent in their own right – join in one space. Particularly, with public intellectuals.

The societal value is immense. Consequently, host and seasoned journalist, Barry Wilkinson must be commended for making it happen.

While Dr Joseph taught me political philosophy at Cave Hill, Dr Belle was my dissertation supervisor. A great deal of my insight into certain matters was formed under their tutelage. There is, therefore, an observable lineage and it is here that I pick up on their discussion.

Not at all with anything concerning political parties outright but, instead, to do with Dr Belle and Dr Joseph’s shared theoretical framework that change will come to countries like Barbados as change occurs in the world.

This I term, “The World Forces Thesis”.

Wilkinson, reflecting on the perceived leadership crisis within the Democratic Labour Party asked Dr Joseph: “Is it the right time to start a new party? Should that move be made now or is it time now to even get more invested into the Democratic Labour Party?”

Dr Joseph replied, in part, “ . . . . My response to third parties has always been that for you to justify a third party you must show me what is the new political economy that has emerged that has negated the old one and given rise to the new one?”

I understand Dr Joseph’s point to be one that I often hear from Dr Belle. That fundamental change requires shifts of global proportions.

Particularly, concerning the mode of production. Where there is no global change there is hardly space for national change . . . even if needed.

It is a historical fact that systemic change occurs fundamentally with world crisis and crises. Any denier lives in a world of conjecture from which no manner of scientific method can rescue the poor soul.

    Public policy

However, I often query whether fundamental change (not minute change) can come without calamity having to strike. Alternatively put, must Barbados wait for world change before we can make fundamental national leaps forward or can we shift our own national paradigm even where the world is stuck?

Philosophically, if we move while the world is still are we really moving at all?

Like Japanese Koan, the thesis underlying these seemingly abstract questions has great developmental value. In it is a challenge to those whose minds turn towards public policy.

Moreover, to those whose minds are attracted to national leadership.

Particularly, those who fancy themselves politicians.

Naturally challenged as well are the necessary foils to politicians – the moguls, magnates and captains-ofindustry.

This challenge being to devise the means of progress. It the quintessential challenge uniting those who business is politics and those whose politics is business.

In the pure national context progress means individual advancement and national growth. It is only properly obtainable by formulating and executing development plans which move our country in spite of world stagnation.

Herein we turn to the now cliché look at Singapore.

Today’s Singapore arose from World War II (a global paradigm shift from a multipolar world to unipolarity) to become a behemoth mixedeconomy, capitalistic state with limited welfarism.

That is the world forces view. However, looking at the national level, we see a national paradigm shift from communist parties and organised crime cartels fighting for power over government to a liberal political party apparatus which earned public trust through disciplined public policy, strict cabinet government, expert public officers and just compensation.

Many say that this narrative is globally unique.

Hence, it only belongs to Singapore. To some extent, the uniquely quiet and clean approach is Singapore’s alone. However, throughout Asia we see the same occurring.

Particularly in Taiwan, Japan and China. Each country has its own history; each its own political issues.

However, what seems to bind them across their differences is their ability to have had public trust vested in successive governments through public policy that works for individuals as much as the country. This here is essentially national design.

Now for today’s question: What is our national design?

  13. Jesus take the wheel.

    DLP ‘ready for elections’

Political leader of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Ralph Thorne is assuring Barbadians that despite the internal wrangling within the party, it will be ready whenever elections are called.

Additionally, Thorne revealed that the DLP had started to interview for candidates.

Speaking during a press conference at the headquarters of the Opposition Leader yesterday, he dared Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley to call the election early.

“I am challenging the Government that if they think that an early election will catch us in a state of unreadiness, they will be wrong. If it is done to interrupt the work of the Public Accounts Committee, we will be ready when it comes. We don’t have a choice. Nothing is going to stop us from being ready when the time comes.

“We are promising the people of Barbados that when the time comes they will have an alternative choice against the Barbados Labour Party. We are going to be a strong alternative choice for the people of this country,” Thorne said.

He added: “This is 69 years of an institution started by Errol Barrow and we are not going to betray him in his death. We are going to be ready. We are interviewing candidates because we have a public responsibility to the people of this country. The people in St Lucy are telling us to send somebody and we are going to do that; we are going to send somebody to St Joseph and St John – all 30 constituencies will have candidates.”

Thorne disclosed that plans were also in place to revive the branches which were inactive, noting that some malaise should be expected within a party that suffered successive 30-0 defeats.

“We have started a manifesto, we are not sitting waiting to see what happens next with our internal issues. When you are in opposition and you have suffered two 30-love defeats, people will be demoralised and some branches will become dormant, but we are not going to let them die, we are going to revive them. There is a resurgence of interest in the Democratic Labour Party.” (CLM)

    HHHHMMMM

SO WHAT WAS IT WHEN TRICKY RALPH THORNE LEFT TO GO JOIN THE BLP FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS PRIOR.

IT WAS NOT BETRAYAL IT WAS PURE SELF INTEREST A REPEAT IN 2024.

ONE CANNOT MAKE UP ENOUGH OF THIS ONGOING HORSE MANURE.

  18. Where was Barrow before joining the DLP? Try to avoid making throw away points.

  19. Where was Barrow before joining the DLP? Try to avoid making throw away points.

    XXXXXXXXX

MY FEEDBACK HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BARROW’S MOVEMENTS TO START THE DLP..

I WAS FOCUSING ON THE BLATANT HYPOCRISY COMING OUT THE MOUTH OF TRICKY RALPH THORNE IN 2024 WHOSE ORIGINAL HOME WAS DLP NOT BLP.

HE OBVIOUSLY DIDN’T SEE IT AS A BETRAYAL WHEN HE LEFT AND JOINED THE BLP PREVIOUSLY.

NOW HE WOULD LIKE SOME GULLIBLE SHEEP ON THE 2X3 ISLAND TO SEE HIM AS THE PRODIGAL SON RETURNED HOME INSTEAD OF THE WOLF IN SHEEP CLOTHING HE TRULY IS.

  20. Some of you insist on attacking individuals where there is a structural issue regarding how we need to govern the country. The Ralph Thorne crossing of the floor has simply exposed a problem that already existed in the DLP.

  21. SIR YOU ARE CLEARLY MISSING MY POINT I DON’T CARE WHO CROSSOVER LIKE MUSICAL CHAIRS TO B OR D PARTY.

I HAVE NEVER VOTED FOR ANY PARTY OR INDIVIDUAL EVEN WHEN PREVIOUSLY LIVING ON THE ISLAND THE LAST ABOUT APPROXIMATELY 16 TO 17 YEARS.

WHY WOULD TRICKY USED THE WOŔLD BETRAYAL OF THE FOUNDER NOW WHEN HE DID IT BEFORE.

LIKE USA OR THE 2X3 ISLAND POLITICIANS SOMETIMES SWITCH PARTIES THAT THEY WERE OPPOSED TO OR BECOME INDEPENDENT.

HOWEVER TO SWITCH FROM ONE’S ORIGINAL PARTY TO THE OPPOSITION AND THEN SWITCH BACK YEARS LATER AND USING THE WORD BETRAYAL IS WHY THE OBVIOUS HYPOCRISY AS IN HIS MEANING SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETRAYAL TO THE PARTY FOUNDER BARROW LEAVING THE FIRST TIME.

YOU CAN CHOOSE TO PLAY AROUND WITH WORDS AS YOU SEE FIT.

HOWEVER YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PIGEON HOLE ME FROM SEEING REALITY.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN ONE OF B OR D SHEEP.

  22. You have no point. This issue here is that the DLP had no presence in parliament and therefore anyone crossing from the BLP will pose a challenge as far as automatic appointment to the leader of political business, made worse by pre-existing issues in the DLP, that it is Thorne or his perceived position does not address the issue at hand. We have to reform our governance system exposed by a 30-0 result not once but twice.

You may have the last word.

  23. AND THE TRICKSTER THORNE DLP DESPITE BEING SURROUNDED BY MANY SHEEP WILL STILL HAVE A 3RD 30-0.

    GUARANTEED.

IT IS YOUR BLOG YOU MAY HAVE THE LAST WORD

  24. @ David

Read the article you posted at 7:47 am.

Clearly Ralph Thorne is delusional. He is holding a false belief about an external reality despite incontrovertible evidence to the contrary.

Or…… he believes Barbadians are gullible.

Or…… he thought it was important to propitiate the ‘party faithful with ‘political shiite talk.’

Mr. Thorn’s original party was the BLP. Mr. Thorn and Ms.Mottley wanted to represent the constituency when it came up for grabs. Mr. Thorn lost and he complained that the higher ups in the party had thrown their weight behind Mottley. We were privy to a discussion, where Mr. Thorn said he believed that he was just seen as “ a poor” boy.
Mr. Thorn under the encouragement of some anti- David Thompson Dems, then switched to the DLP. He was unsuccessful as a DLP candidate.
Once more influenced by the same anti- David Thompson Dems, who were by then supporting Owen Arthur, in an all out effort to ensure that Mr. Thompson ,never became PM, Mr. Thorn rejoined the BLP and was a very successful candidate.
So, to say and or suggest that Mr. Thorne’s original party was the DLP, is wrong.
Opportunism always breeds political skullduggery. Mr. Thorne has elected to be an opportunist. It is widely believed that Ms.Mottley had every intention of joining the Dems , because she was very much attached to her “ real” grandfather (politically. Errol Barrow) but she was persuaded to try at the seat that was up for grabs and the rest is history.
We do recall that Sir. Elliott, her dad had left the BLP and had accepted an overseas posting , given to him by Barrow( Dems)
So, the TWIN has been looking after each other going back donkey years.
In terms of our political culture, Mr. Thorne has acted true to form.

  27. @ WILLIAM SKINNER

THANKS FOR CORRECTION OF TRICKY RALPH THORNE POLITICAL HISTORY I DID NOT KNOW BUT HIGHLIGHTS EARLIER SKULLDUGGERY BEHAVIOR WHICH IS A PERMANENT PART OF HIS DNA.

DURING THE TIME THAT THE DLP WAS IN POWER I USE TO SEE MIA MOTTLEY REGULARLY TAKING A SMOKE BREAK IN FRONT OF KERRIE SIMMONS AND TRICKY RALPH THORNE’S FORMER OFFICE IN ROEBUCK STREET.

MIA WOULD NEVER LET ME EASE ON BY AND WOULD ALWAYS GREET ME IN HER DEEP VOICE. THIS WAS AROUND THE TIME OWEN ARTHUR, GEORGE PAYNE ETC., WERE BATTLING PUBLICLY WITH MIA.

THANKS AGAIN FOR CORRECTING AND GIVING A PIECE OF THE BACKGROUND I WAS NOT AWARE OF.

    MUCH APPRECIATED.

  28. Stand up for the sake of the party

Some people are wondering why a prominent figure known for sharing lashes in the past has been so visibly absent from the political turmoil in his team.

Many were expecting this man to turn up at certain political outings padded up to score for the new political captain but he’s been missing for much of the innings, causing speculation to run wild on the motives for remaining in the shadows of the pavilion rather than taking on the role of night watchman for his team of Dear Loving People.

However, when it comes to his other passion he can be found at the crease daily, running between the wicket at familiar streets.

His reluctance to play at certain political balls became more apparent when the blue camp appeared to erupt into virtual civil war and no one knew who was in from who was out. At first it was the exec then it was the general body making the decisions as to who would bat, bowl or field and nobody could make heads or tails of the situation. One thought that in the midst of the confusion this man from the east would emerge and finally show that he should be counted among the potential leaders, especially because he was voted vice captain by the blue team. Having gained the confidence of those selectors, the logical step, Cou Cou thought, was that with the party captain injured, he would be appointed the interim party captain ’til the supreme umpire decided who is right and who is wrong.

But curiously there was not a word – for or against – coming from this man who benefited from a national profile during the blue team’s 2008 to 2018 innings which ended with all of them being discarded.

    Housing record

Back then he had an impressive house and land scoring record that afforded the incoming red team a foundation to build upon. In fact, some are saying in contrast to the blue team record, the red team housing record is one that is bungling so much so that theirs is the real one with steel in there. But that is where it ends for blue team vice captain and his association with the Dear Loving People following the historic 2018 defeat.

For the last six years, say insiders, the man with the track record in housing construction has set out on a particular course and hardly assisted with the rebuilding in his own backyard.

He can be found daily in certain precincts which – ironically – is where the internal wrangling of his blue team has ended up. Thus, he would have been ideally placed to lend his expertise in that matter and help the team reach a compromise away from the prying eyes of the public. But he hasn’t.

Instead, when the ordinary member appealed to the umpire in Whitepark Road there were a number of people wearing caps for the blue team.

Even though the matter has reached the third umpire, fans are saying it is not too late for this man to don the blues and suit up for the sake of his party.

No problem. We have these guys and dolls playing with the country as their personal plantation. The reason we have opted to stay clear of the so-called fighting in the DLP is because the current president of the DLP, was all lovey dovey with Mia and the BLP but he didn’t get the nomination and he saw the opportunity to lead the broken and broke DLP. Once more true to form in our political culture.
Rest assured that he was probably told by his friends in the BLP to try his hand with their twin.
They are all opportunists. It’s a game to them they have no philosophy or ideology but they get away with frigging up the country, on a daily bais and their party loyalists defend them to the hilt.
All of a sudden Ralph Thorn is a RAT to his twin. He is just another run of the mill politician who has grasped the opportunity to increase his salary and make some noise.
We were once in St. Joseph when the NDP Rouse ran against (Sir Richard) Cheltenham. Cheltenham won and he said to us that Parliament is a club and that he belongs in there. He also said that Richie belongs in there too.
All the NDP candidates had failed to win a seat including Haynes.
Lo and behold , the next election , Arthur and the BLP literally abandoned their candidate and Richie was back in the House ( The Club)
    The TWIN aint easy.

  30. All of a sudden Ralph Thorn is a RAT to his twin.

The man name Ralph Anthony Thorne.

    R.A.T

How come that all of your examples about the twin BLPDLP, does be only on the BLP?

You are just another unhappy Dem.

  31. DLP must embrace phases of politics

This article was submitted as a Letter to the Editor

In a previous article, I explored the electoral performance of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) for the 21st century to offer some insight into future elections. Based on the electoral swing required and historical performances there is a possibility where the DLP may not return to office until the 2037 period.

The article also highlighted reasons behind the DLP’s weakening performance evidenced by the fact that on average the party received only four of every ten votes cast since 2003. This has partially been the case since the DLP has not been sufficiently agile to meet the political realities of a modern Barbados to capture the coalition of the winning.

After independence, Barbados emerged out of the ravishes of colonialism and it was this period where the DLP became a victim of its successes by laying the socio-economic foundations in the 1960s and 70s. During this period, the DLP was credited for being socially progressive with people-centred policy interventions, notably in public education and social welfare which provided wide scale benefits for the working poor. It was at this time when the first phase of post-independence politics emerged. These early investments into everyday Barbadians bore fruit which changed the socio-political and electoral realities in Barbados.

Despite some setbacks, these changes created the conditions for the second phase in politics with the rise of a sizable black middle class particularly in the early and mid-2000s. This second phase was supported by a stabilised economy, the expansion of industries such as tourism, financial services and real estate, and increased access to tertiary education and banking capital. With a growing middle class, additional political and electoral expectations were placed on the two major political parties. Despite the continued and longstanding bread and butter issues such as poverty, unemployment, and social welfare, issues emerging from Barbados’ electorate became more diverse.

    Identity politics

This second phase has given way to the third phase with the rise and advancement of identity politics that has influenced Barbadian culture and politics. Socio-culturally and civic-politically, there is now greater sensibility and sensitivity around the politics of identity. Whether it be gender, nationality, sexuality, race, religion, ethnicity and others, the electorate has again placed additional expectations on the two major political parties based on identity.

This third phase is now being complemented by an emerging fourth phase fuelled by digital technology, social media and big data. These have turned the electorate into one large data set that can be studied, influenced and predicted. This has raised the important question of the “how” of elections, not simply the who or the what.

Therefore, electorally, Barbados has become a balancing act of four phases that create the coalition of the winning.

Whether in fact or perception, the problem the DLP confronts is that by and large, the DLP has taken refuge in phase one, whereas, the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has taken up real estate in all four phases.

Although the DLP continues to be a mass-based political party as it captured an average of 40 per cent of all votes cast since 2003, it is evident that it must embrace the four phases while not losing sight of its founding appeal. Therefore, the question before the DLP remains, what is at the base of its inability to sufficiently balance these four phases.

This is particularly important as additional phases in politics are likely to emerge with time. Until the DLP can resolve this question, we can expect that Barbados will continue to be BLP country.

  32. From BT – DB
“Based on the electoral swing required and historical performances there is a possibility where the DLP may not return to office until the 2037 period.”

In the words of Hants “Down taw, no brush”. Gibberish or political spin your choice. 2037 is not on the table.

Boys and girls, this is the last time that I will attempt heavy lifting. It is when the beloved blogmaster places spin as a point of discussion that I must get out my bat and dispatch it to the boundary. Let us focus on 2013, 2018 and 2022:

Notice how this author focused only on those who voted and missed the elephant in the room – a large number of the electorate that just did not come out to vote. If the DLP keeps it diehard voters and we see a second fall off of voter turnout, the BLP may be in serious trouble.

A more detailed analysis follows. Lots of numbers, so if you are not a numbers person or a “not enuff type” just tell me that I am talking foolishness and move on.
    Year/Registered voters/Total Voting/ BLP%:Number/DLP%/
    2003 / 220,093 / 134,312 / B56.3% / D43.6%
    2008 / 235,510 / 149,633 / B47.3% / D52.6%
    2013 / 249,024 / 154,643 / B48.12%(74,121) / D51.4%:78,851
    2018 / 258,901 / 154,193 / B73.5%(112,955) / D21.8%:33,551
    2022 / 266,330 / 114,035 / B69% / (78,720), / D26.5%:30,273

I would like to create 3 categories of voters BLP adherents, DLP adherents and ‘The ‘Flexibles’. The Flexibles will vote but have the property that they may switch between the two parties and or just may not vote.

Note that the number voting hovered between 130K and 150K between 2018, but in 2018 the DLP lost about 40,000 votes and the BLP votes increased by the exactly the same amount. What we saw in 2018 is ‘the DLP Flexibles’ registering their disgusts and voting for the BLP. Yes, The Flexibles voted overwhelmingly for the BLP.

2022 is interesting. The DLP Flexibles actually stayed away from both the DLP and the BLP so that we have 40,000 more folks not voting for either party in 2022.

    1) The BLP managed to hold on to its portion of “The Flexibles” and so they still recorded in the neighborhood of 75,000 votes.
    2) The DLP with only the DLP adherents and (about 30,000) and no Flexibles held its ground in 2022 relative to its 2018 vote.

So we have a hard estimate of “DLP adherents” as 30,000. We know that BLP adherents plus “BLP Flexible” are about 75,000 and those ‘not choosing to vote’ for either party is about 122.000.

We do not know the number of ‘BLP adherents’ and if for the sake of argument we put them at 42,000 then BLP spin guy’s analysis is sheer nonsense. Why?

Given the current non-performance of the 61-0 Mia Mottley mistake making, mismanaging ‘mis-administration’ it is difficult to imagine life after 2027 for this party. In fact, the worst thing, that can happen for the BLP (or Barbados) is a next 30-0 or a BLP win. We have seen that the BLP always flounder after achieving electoral success. Too late that they have discovered the difference between running and governing… ‘ for them winning is a step towards losing”.

A more interested reader may inquire as to how the spin guy arrived at 2037 when 2027 is in question and 2032 is off the table.

Given the awareness of the electorate of Mottley’s mistake making, mismanaging ‘mis-administration penchant for fumbling and do-overs it is possible that the DLP can increase its voters by as few as 15,000, with low voter turnout and a stay at home of the ‘BLP flexibles’ we could see a next DLP administration as early as 2027. I know this. Bruce knows this and ,like hell, Mia Knows this. Too late that they have discovered the difference between running and governing… ‘ for them winning is losing”.

They would like to convince you that the voters are static and that the will vote BLP again, but the BLP leadership knows it can be washed out with the tide n 2027.

How did he arrive at 2037?
Repeating, given the current non-performance of the 61-0 Mottley administration, it is difficult to imagine life after 2027 for the BLP party. It has reached it shelf’s life.

  33. “The article also highlighted reasons behind the DLP’s weakening performance evidenced by the fact that on average the party received only four of every ten votes cast since 2003. This has partially been the case since the DLP has not been sufficiently agile to meet the political realities of a modern Barbados to capture the coalition of the winning.”

If you were to do business with a stock broker, the first thing he would tell you is “past performance is not a predictor of future performance”. It baffles me how in a changing world of increasing hardship, hunger and corruption that some sees the electorate as mainly static with very little voting changes. In fact, they ignore past behavior and base their analysis only on what they imagine is happening today.

Do you know that 4 or 3 out of 10 was not a major disaster and has happened in the past? What was different in 2018 and 2022 was the spread of the difference between the two parties They were almost uniformly distributed (no major wins) and favored the BLP. This allowed the BLP to seize all 30 seats.

Watch the guys here catch at straws. You said “no major wins, but candidate A got 2 votes and candidate B got 1 a whopping 100% difference”. Please find a better way to occupy your time

  34. I am glad that there are a few here who are willing to help me understand what is often said here.

Can someone tell me what the hell Bruce Devaron was saying. I may be wrong, but it seems to me as if he was saying, ‘the DLP demise’ was brought about by changes the whole world is going through .. post-independence, identity politics, increasing technology..

Now I would be the first to admit that the DLP was lagging in the technological arena in 2022 and 2018, but this is nothing that a checkbook and a smart university intern cannot solve. The rest is way above my head..

  35. Worrell, Shepherd continue to act

FORMER SENATOR Andre Worrell will continue to act as president of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) and Pedro Shepherd general secretary – at least until July 23.

This was revealed after several members of that party, including political leader Ralph Thorne, returned before Chief Justice Leslie Haynes yesterday morning, in a matter where legal action has been brought to bring an end to the suspension of elected DLP president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and general secretary Steve Blackett. The matter was brought in May by Ricky Williams, a long-standing member of the party.

Through his attorney Shamar Bovell, Williams is seeking to have Yearwood and Blackett reinstated. The suit has named Shepherd as first respondent, Worrell second respondent and the DLP the third.

The matter was heard in chambers of Supreme Court No. 9.

    Grateful

Speaking after the hearing yesterday, Bovell said he was “grateful to the Honourable Chief Justice for his handling of the matter” which he said was “being handled very fairly” and “in the interest of the institution” known as the Democratic Labour Party.

“What would have happened today, the court would have taken its time to go through the substantive claim which we filed, as well as the defence of the other side . . . . He [the Chief Justice] analysed the case and there were certain orders made to cause the matter to go forward, but I must speak to the temperature of how the court is dealing with the matter. The court does recognise that the institution is a very important institution for the country and the court is preparing an environment where we may go away and speak,” he said.

The attorney said it was not only his client, but his understanding was that some other party members would also relish the opportunity to iron things out by talking as well. “I’m open and willing to talk and Mr Williams is open and willing to talk; and not just talk for talking sake – talk for the production of results.”

King’s Counsel Gollop is representing Shepherd, while King’s Counsel Michael Carrington and Neil Marshall are acting on behalf of Worrell.

    ‘Further direction’

Gollop said the court had given “further directions”.

“More documents have got to be filed in the process and the matter has been adjourned until July 23 for a hearing, based on those applications which have to be filed now,” he explained.

Back in April, party stalwart Hartley Reid had filed a no-confidence motion against Yearwood, which was followed by Blackett’s filing of a resolution later that month to have Thorne expelled from the party. At a General Council meeting held in May, it was agreed that Blackett be suspended from his role as general secretary. Shepherd was named as acting general secretary.

A week later, the General Council met again and voted for the suspension of Yearwood.
