In June 2020 the then Minister of the Environment Trevor Prescod led a team from government on a mission which uprooted 20 trees planted by owner Allan Kinch on beach land located along Carlisle Bay, Bay Street, St Michael. It was captured by Nation News. An interesting action by this government who launched “We Plantin” project in 2020 to plant ONE Million trees.

Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Trevor Prescod, planting a tree at Hope Plantation, St. Lucy, to mark the start of We Plantin’ More Than A Million National Tree Planting Project yesterday. (S.Forde-Craigg/BGIS)

What the blogmaster does not understand is why the government seems ultra aggressive against developer Allan Kinch developing the property he purchased. Was it not known at the time of sale what was planned? There are usually several sides to a story but the blogmaster is yet to hear why Mr. Kinch is being frustrated in his quest to develop the property he legitimately purchased. It seems he is not even allowed to put out deck chairs other businesses in the area are allowed.

Instead we have an eyesore for an open space.

There is a lot more the blogmaster can and will post but reserves further comment for the moment.

  1. @ Africa online

Thanks for reminding me of the Blue Horizon fiasco. Same dam story basically.

Valuation done. Property sold for half of valuation and beach access across the road lost with it. Same issue as here except the discount is larger.

So what is the recourse for us the true owners and shareholders in these “deals?” No one seems to understand that when we say government sold this and did that, that they in fact own nothing. It is us the taxpayers who own the assets.

    @ David

If government did acquire the property they would pay based on the land tax value. Let me give you an issue that occured with a friend of mine. He sold a house below landtax value because it was all he could get for it and the family wanted the cash. When it reached the attorneys they advised him while the sale will go through based on the sale price, the transfer taxes etc will be charged based on the higher landtax value.

So if government decided to acquire this land the purchase price would be the same land tax valuation. This probably would be at the last sale price still of the $4M kinch paid.

  2. Sorry John A, not following your argument at all.

  3. @ David

I am saying if this government wanted to acquire the property they would pay the land tax value which probably would be $4M seeing that was the last recorded sale price.

  4. @John A

The recorded sale price was agreed as part of a seales tender process was it not? Isn’t it a stretch to contend the land tax value was the consideration?

  5. Maybe the purpose of the tender process was to inject a higher number into the mix and confuse things!!

  6. BajanJuly 6, 2022 11:44 AM

Ok Mr John so you like showing connections …… past connections. Like it is a crime to be a businessman in Barbados
Why no mention that it was he who saved Bajan shareholders millions in the Massy takeover…. Continue to question and try to make a innocent man look guilty but the truths that come out about others you may not like

….. how about how other things connect. Do you think you or those reading this blog are ready to see how things truly connect in Barbados????

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’m not saying that the man is guilty of anything, just pointing out his connections.

  7. DavidJuly 6, 2022 7:17 AM

The lot in question was owned by CLICO years ago?

    Like

    JohnJuly 6, 2022 7:27 AM

How did it get to CLICO??

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    BTW

The property was probably at one time that of BS&T or Plantations … if it passed through CLICO!!!

CLICO and Massy are both Trinidadian, another connection I would point out … and worthwhile bearing in mind.

  8. DPD,

Speak for yourself! I do not like gossip. I like logical deductions and reasoning a la Hercule Poirot.

  9. @ David

When ever the govermment is aquiring it is done at the current land tax value. That is the basis for the acquisition act. There is a difference between the state using acquisition and the state buying a property. If they are acquiring the land to secure beach access for the public it will happen at the land tax value. Same as if they were acquiring land for road improvement etc.

  10. @John A

Was that the calculation for the liquidation center or was that a different animal.

The only ‘new’ was the 4 plantation holding co’s, and you know a lot more about plantations history and land than I do.
    @David
I have no idea. All these issues have “roots”. It may well precede this land deal and/or have nothing to do with it.
Developers all over are know to sail close to the wind

  12. @ David.

I am fairly sure the land tax value was used there too. Remember it was said tongue in cheek that ” you didnt object when you was paying it so dont object now you getting paid at it.” Lol

  13. How can there be any defense for a prime asset being “surrendered” at a cost 80% below valuation? Even the most distressed real estate hardly sees these types of discounts. Utterly ridiculous.

    #failing state

  14. David

You know that Kinch is in the business of selling land right? Years ago I purchased some land from him, and at the time he was also selling Yorkshire, so took us over there to see if we might like it better. He told us they purchased agriculture land and change the use to sell on as residential. He sold the land under market value and still made money because of the what he paid for it to begin with. He sold out the area as soon as he put it on the market. The lots started at 1 acer up to 6, so he didn’t break it down into small lots. I just see it as doing business.

  15. So let me get this straight…. If Mr Kinch is innocent in this and he is a victim which I believe he is. Should Mr Kinch then be victimized more by having had to pay taxes on land he never got to use of and pay lawyers and architects and for purchases for the planned project having had to pay all of these plus endure the victimization of being stripped of his rights and humiliated in the house of Parliment where defamatory comments were made and 7 years of his life already spent on this …. Is he to have endured all of that just to have what he paid thrown back at him or perhaps never returned as the government most often does when it comes to acquiring?
Is this how you want your tax dollars spent?
If this how you want your county to run and it’s citizens treated. Will you be happy if this were to happen to yourself or one of your loved ones?

Would in not be better for the now government to communicate with Mr Kinch and resolve any outstanding concerns rather that continue to victimize him?

The PM recently said something at a summit about meeting with those we disagree… I think she was saying something about the US should have invited Venezuela and Cuba….. as they say is not what is good for the Goose good for the Gander?
Are those of you who support this saying that those victimized and abused should not receive compensation for their abuse?
I guess that means you also don’t support reparations…… I for one certainly and wholeheartedly do.!

  16. @Bajan

The challenge for Mr. Kinch is that most people do not see him as a victim.

  17. @David. How are you not a victim when someone sells you something continues to take money from you and you have nothing to show for it? I know if I by a car and pay in full for it and pay my insurance and tax every year and the dealership kept telling me no I can’t get in it, no I can’t driver it. I know I would feel victimized especially as it would have been bought to drive. Just as this land was bought with a purpose known to and supported by government .

  18. Note carefully what the blogmaster wrote. People generally will not see Mr. Kinch as a victim because he is perceived as a person of means. The fact that he sees himself as being shafted by government is irrelevant in their eyes.

  19. @ David

Please direct me how i can become a victim please and pay 20 cents on the dollar the next time i see something for sale.

Please i really really really want to be a victim badly! LOL

  20. @John A

Does it matter the price paid if approvals sought by ‘victim’ to develop the property is denied?

Trevor Prescod name has been missing from the news does anyone know why?

It is alleged he is a Pan Africanist.

He ought be visible with the descent of young blacks into the cesspool hell of shootings, murders, drugs and serious crime against their own black brothers and sisters.

For a long time successive governments sold beach front property secretly and cheaply to a certain type of person.

These sales rob the majority of the population of the country’s wealth at the same time creating problems of beach access and inequality for mostly poor black people.

No beach land owned by the taxpayers should be sold.

At most a lease is possible .

Only an overwhelming case where the country benefit’s massively should sale of government beach front be considered.

Town hall meetings even referendums are in order before priceless real estate owned by the state is sold.

Miss Ram needs to reopen her compulsorily acquired beach property case if as reported the Bay St. spot by the old eye hospital is on the market for sale for US$10 million .

The very same piece of beach the conniving and callous government sold for BDS$4 million.

The similarities between this scandalous affair and the radical covid vaccines scheme jump out at you.

Miss Ram has to ask for at least US $30 million for where she was evicted from on the same Bay St given her land was larger. Fair is fair.

This blogger don’t give a flying RH or a rats ass if the property was bought by one of the infamous Cattlewash mob or a chain hotel mogul.

Government should buy back that piece of beach front for the price it is valued and reinstate the beach access for everybody black and white, tourists and locals.

The present government is accountable to no one hence Bajans may have to march on the streets in numbers and protest against wrongs and injustice .

The beach front rip offs of the peoples property are clear examples of skullduggery.

If Prescod can be found we expect him to be a leader of the protests.

  25. @Donks, Gripe and Josh,

Check the link below.. The time for protesting has long since gone.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/05/honduras-land-rights-fight-crypto-colonialists

  26. Taken from today ‘s New York Times
“Black American investors have been hit especially hard because of higher exposure to digital assets, The Financial Times reports.

A survey by Ariel Investments and Charles Schwab found that a quarter of Black investors owned crypto investments at the start of the year, compared with 15 percent of white investors.”

  27. That was surprising news for me. I suspect these are mostly young people.

  28. I am slow on these things

What did Mr Kinch do that was wrong?

  29. Jesus, when an article like this one leaves you catspraddled then you know it is time to tell the nursing home to have your bones turned to glue.

People talking nuff, but not saying anything.

  30. Lenny St. Hill (RIP) told me years ago that he was involved in the production of the first PDP in the 60’s.

As Chief Town Planner he stuck by the PDP.

If you applied for change of use in an area designated for that changed use, you got the permissions.

If you applied for a change of use not envisaged by the plan, tough.

Until he was instructed by his superiors that he was making it too easy for the wrong people to get permission!!

Wound up not having his contract renewed.

The result was some could get permissions for development and some could not depending on who you were.

If you were anointed, you could offer at low agricultural prices, subject to change of use,

You could get the change of use once the sale went through at the low price, flip some or all of the sale the same day to someone who would pay for the permissions and walk away making a tidy profit.

Golden Mile Resorts and the Duffus Commission in 1976 was the first indicator as Barbados lurched down the slope to more and more corruption but there were earlier ones as well, Frere Pilgrim 1972, Husbands 1964, Lodge, Clermont etc etc etc..

    The result is clear today.

Barbados is to small to operate like that without the destruction of the economy.

Where there is no vision or plan, the people perish.

Humpty Dumpty has had a great fall and no one can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

We are stuck borrowing till lenders get fed up with us, or we end up eating ourselves!!!!.

I knew a fellow years ago who dead now that wanted to buy a brand name car, but he wanted it cheap so he and the car salesman decided to under invoice the car cause the owner was an old doty man in his 80s that would not of known anyhow. To cut a long story short the fellow ended up getting the car for next to nothing, although it was worth several times what he paid. The salesman got his piece too ” for his trouble” and the old doty 80 year old man as the young people say ” get tek.”

So tell me who was wrong there, the fellow that bought the car or the fellow that sell it? I mean we talking now years later bout a completely different situation of course, but your question just cause me to reminise about that old schemer i did know that dead now way back when. Funny how one thing does spur a memory bout a completely different issue aint it? Cant even remember the fellow name now it was so long ago.

Wonder what ever became of that car though from all them years back? It was one big able long thing like a boat pun wheels!

well…..given the 100 year old history of the cabinet squatters……sellinging a property valued at 12 million for a mere 4 million MAY REQUIRE someone, the BUYER to pony up the remaining 8 MILLION….80%……for bribery purposes…..it’s expected……don’t have to be voiced…and if the buyer is not playing ball…OH, WELL..

but ask the Fowls they will know the SCAM and the SCAMMERS better than i do..

that’s why i made that particular move……by myself….ya can only trust yaself to be successful in those types of endeavors….i do believe however, that the people in the diaspora will be more successful, because they have different ways and avenues to tap into…

I don’t know if Kinch right or wrong but I would say something int looking good for the government because this matter stand too many years that it is obvious to dis ole girl that them hiding up something and them would not be hiding up unless they doing wrong.

As to Mr Kinch I don’t know if he do any wrong and all of wanna that want to cast stones I hope you remember that poor family in St Philip and that poor soul on Browns Beach….
