Department of Public Affairs Setup to Serve WHO/YOU?

The news that government recently created the Department of Public Affairs (DPA) as a bona fide government headed by Director Pat Parris supported by Tyson Henry, Tyrone Lovell, Christal Austin and Lisa Lorde has set tongues wagging. The news that government recently created the Department of Public Affairs (DPA) as a bona fide government headed by Director Pat Parris supported by Tyson Henry, Tyrone Lovell, Christal Austin and Lisa Lorde has set tongues wagging. If one separates from the political arguments there is no doubt concerns are valid in a scenario the government of Barbados currently holds a 29 to 1 seat advantage in parliament. Then you add to the mix the country is currently operating under an emergency mandate because of COVID 19 which extends extraordinary powers to the prime minister. Even if we are persuaded that during a pandemic any government in the seat will want to be in a position to make quick decisions unencumbered from the bureaucracy of parliament there is a razor edge balance to be managed all must agree. Who was it that said “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”?

The blogmaster will not be as extreme as others by comparing the establishment of the DPA to a Joseph Goebbels move, except to say on the face of it there are reasonable questions the prime minister must answer if we cursorily critique the resumes of those appointed. And this is after hearing a reasonable justification for the establishment of the DPA in the first place. They all qualify as Barbados Labour Party (BLP) supporters. The blogmaster is prepared to give Lisa Lord a bligh.

The blogmaster suspects the prime minister being the political animal that she is has an eye on a general election that has loomed large on the horizon and feels comfortable to establish a unit that will disseminate information and respond to concerns from citizens in the government’s/BLP interest. The prime minister is obviously prepared to write-off any political fallout in the face of a weak political opposition.

For the avoidance of doubt the blogmaster does not agree with the establishment of the DPA at this time. It is not a fit for purpose approach in the prevailing climate. There must be a more creative way the prime minister could have achieve the political objective. The is insensitively too naked a political move.

    Bajans Home and Abroad in the Bajan Diaspora*, should be deemed as stakeholders in the Government of Barbados and it’s policy making and should be able to contribute input into all white papers of Government policy and future planning, with a designated department and email or internet site to send ideas. Although vexatious and political complaining should not be allowed and should be directed to BU instead. I and I and I only deal with positivity and not negativity, Jah Jah know. have a blessed Sabbath day my beloveds.

    ‘I doubt very much’ Barbadians will allow themselves to “be fooled by this role out of government inspired propaganda machinery.”

    We had a similar experience under the previous DLP administration that used the GIS and CBC for similar propaganda purposes…… and that party was still defeated 30-0 at the polls.

    I’m sure BU remembers when CBC TV8 evening news was dominated with broadcasts of DLP related events, ribbon cutting opening ceremonies of buildings by ministers; constituency branch meetings; annual conferences; lunch time lectures; lectures by Bobby Morris, Maureen Holder and other party members; repeat interviews of DLP stalwarts etc.

    Then, immediately after the news, there was a segment named “News Extra,” during which viewers were ‘force fed a diet’ of Freundel Stuart address to the annual conference, or a minister giving a speech at either a branch meeting or some month-long event such as the month of the elderly, disabled, women, etc, or addressing an overseas forum.

    And, I’m sure BU also remembers how CBC and the GIS were used during the 2013 and 2018 election campaigns.

    This time around, rather than using CBC, the BLP has taken it a bit further by establishing a department dedicated to spewing rhetorical political diatribe and propaganda.

    There aren’t any significant political, philosophical or ideological differences between the BLP and DLP.

    As you will notice if you read what you posted, you are the one complaining about UK…am on a higher vibration because am not only well aware of causation and effect, but am also well informed about the WHY…yall got a VERY LONG WAY TO GO and not ready for any of the answers YET…even Pacha and Miller would tell ya this..

    again……unless the negros in the parliament, the descendants of the ENSLAVED, don’t care how they pretend otherwise, can tell us that:

    it was the palace caused them to ROB generations of their fellow African descended of EVERYTHING;

    forced both DBLP governments to be CORRUPT with racist minorities;

    forced them to allow the minorities to practice racism, discrimination, suppression, oppression, disenfranchisement of the majority population;

    forced them to encourage, enable and condone minorities and their containers of drugs and guns flooding depressed areas of the island and destroying generations of African lives;

    forced them to NOT COLLECT 1 BILLION DOLLARS IN VAT;

    forced them to DISAPPEAR at least 5-6 BILLION DOLLARS of the majority population’s money;

    forced them to keep the criminalization of all things African in education, culture, traditions, religions, ongoing, etc;

    forced them to KEEP SELF-HATE as part of the culture and the hatred of everything African still enforced on the island, and refuse to allow the population access their natural African identity;

    forced them to use the supreme court as a weapon against the majority population with land thefts, theft estates of the elderly and their beneficiaries and REFUSING to close personal injury cases;

    unless they or you can tell me the palace is FORCING them to do all of that on a day to day basis in the LAST 30 YEARS……it’s ALL ON THEM…

    i await the answer from you or them..

    i see that as ENCOURAGING SLOTH 2.0….when they WERE SPECIFICALLY WARNED in 2010….11 YEARS AGO…that they should move swiftly to engage the young i coding, combinatorics and optimization etc , they took an ARROGANT PASS, result of SLOTH…another generation LOST to minority CONTAINERS OF DRUGS AND GUNS…..you can dress it up pretty, but that’s the reality…

    quantum computing is about to take off…a follow up to coding etc…so why not wait another 25 years to catch up to that…they got all the time and money in the world…just as they do now…

    Why is Dr. Kevin Greenidge allowing this blatant wastage of taxpayers’ money especially at this stage of the country’s current choice of either swimming or sinking in the quagmire of economic stagnation?

    The government has seen an urgent need to establish the DPA deep within the bosom of government to debunk a rising tide of fake news. With a general election coming it will be a busy unit. If the government wins it will say the decision was justified. Dr. Kevin was seconded from the IMF no?

    just heard some news coming from the continent where questions are asked about reparations being paid to the descendants of the enslaved which is supposed to be DISBURSED DIRECTLY TO DESCENDANTS for Africa’s LOSS of creatives, brains, labor etc…..AU as in Africa, is handling that and it’s very clear that NOT ONE DIME is to go into the dirty hands of small colonial governments in the diaspora for them to find some kinda corruption to use it for and who still have a slave society setup that they don’t plan to dismantle so what’s the use of them salivating for reparations money…

    “United Nations – Michelle Bachelet, United Nations human rights chief, has issued an alert over the rising number of threats, attacks and attempts to undermine national human rights institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

    The High Commissioner for Human Rights said in a statement that “governments and others in positions of power”, including members of parliament and vigilante groups, were at “the root of the problem in a dozen countries”.

    The UN said these rights institutions (NHRIs) “work closely” with Bachelet’s Office and UN human rights mechanisms.

    Bachelet said NHRIS “must not face any form of abuse or interference, especially political pressure”.

    The UN said incidents reported to the UN Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) in the past two years have covered Bolivia, Chile, El Salvador and Haiti, along with Guatemala and Mexico, where, there were “attempts at the State level to remove the head of the independent rights office in those countries.”

    Bachelet said she was urging governments across the region to abide by their responsibilities, and respect and protect the independence of the national human rights institutions, adding adding that the fact that complaints had come from a dozen countries in the region was “striking testimony to the expanding trend and magnitude of the problem”.

    She acknowledged that NHRIs could post challenges for governments, “because their mandate meant they had a duty to expose gaps in the protection of human rights”

    So the Gov’t is worried about “fake news”? The Gov’t apologist “Enuff” also mentioned that the Gov’t was concerned about “fake news”. Where is this “fake’ news” originating from? Is it any different from the “fake news” that previously appeared on the social networks? Does the Gov’t have clean hands or are the decision makers afraid that they may have unleashed a beast in election campaigns that they can’t control? Will this Dept. be tasked with ferreting out anything that is critical of the Gov’t and describing it as “fake” news?

    Political shenanigans to win elections and that’s the end of it. Maloney, Innotech and more were the bad guys who apparently have turned good.

    Every project will therefore be viewed with suspicion no matter how good it sounds. Nobody can blame us for that. It is a consequence of the political shenanigans.

    We must also keep our eyes on this so-called investigation into the death of the young man in police custody and we must demand frequent reports on the transformation of the Government Industrial School. We need people who have no skin in the game.

    What we need are independent inquiry and oversight.

    As a watcher of CBC news I would say that it is worst now when it comes to Ministers on the news. First of all there are more Ministers now and sometimes there are ten segments of Ministers in fifteen minutes of local news doing and saying mundane things.

    Rest assured that this plan to PUSH BACK any progress of the Black majority in increments of 3 and 4 DECADES can plainly be seen by 18-20 year olds in this generation, yes, that’s the new generation that yall will not be able to drive into poverty and despair….they will end your REIGN OF TERROR ON BLACK LIVES, with your fake economy, you and your minority criminals and fellow sellouts…they can see what you are doing and will have none of it.

    When politicians engage in political shenanigans to win elections they should not expect to be trusted after the election.

    They have no right to outrage at fake news since they are the fake news champions.

    Instead of looking outward for the source of the problem, politicians need to look inward.

    How can citizens be expected to trust leaders they have proved to be untrustworthy.

    Politicians need to cut out the crap and just state facts on the political platform, in parliament and on news media.

    And the smart mouthing is nauseating! How refreshing it would have been if the AG had just answered Verla’s questions without the insult! He is a minister of government and Verla is a citizen entitled to ask questions. He could have cut out the endless politicking and made his case as a servant of the people. Whether Verla is a hypocrite or not is irrelevant. Verla’s motives are also irrelevant. Answering politely would have cut her down to size more efficiently, unless he had nothing of substance to offer.

    But instead we have the “she is only trying to be relevant” or something of the sort.

    As a citizen of the country he serves, Verla is relevant.

    If you want to impress.me, you must state facts without commentary. I form my own opinions.

    I noticed he did not give a date or even a timeframe for his report to the nation.

The next election will become a cat fight between two witches who will pull each others natural hair wigs or weaves out by it’s roots and will smear their faces with vaseline so they can’t be cut with razor blades they hide in their mouths.
