Prime Minister Mia Mottley shows off a Kensington Oval ready for T20 World Cup

The following comment was posted by local microbiologist Dr. Robert Lucas to another blog – Bajans Jettison Social Distancing for Cheek by Jowl. The blogmaster regards it as one of the most important points shared on Barbados Underground since the status of COVID 19 was elevated by Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

David, Barbados Underground

Let me repeat what I have stated elsewhere on the Blog.

The curfew has to rigorously enforced. Once this is done, there is no need for contact tracing. I will explain.

Those who manifest symptoms are easily managed. It is person Z who comes into contact with a person (asymptomatic or beginning to show signs) and is unaware of the fact, who poses the immediate threat. By having the curfew and rigidly enforcing it, means that person Z is localized to a fixed area.

There will be more than one person who qualifies for the nomenclature Z. Since the curfew is rigidly enforced when the Zs become ill and use the hotline, hot spots are known. There will be a number of these hot spots. There should be isolated and all persons in the vicinity of the Z’ screened and placed into mandatory quarantine. No crap about voluntary quarantine.

For this method to work, it means that very tough enforcement it needed. None of this crap about human rights and individual liberty. Human rights and so on can be dealt with after the situation is under control…

Elsewhere on the Blog, I said that a twenty-eight day curfew was needed. I explain my reasoning as follows: there would be different viral incubation times for different individuals. Twenty-eight days would appear to be time for all individuals to show manifestations of the infection.

  1. @ John 2

Not at all, look back at my earlier post days back, when I said open the supermarkets with the defence force and shop either by age or alphabet.

I have no doubt the supermarkets will open next week as they have no choice now. I am hoping though they will do so using the police and defence force to enforce the social distancing. This and shopping by either age or surname will be the solution in combination.

The only other thing I want to hear is that the distribution system will be allowed to open before hand, so that when the supermarkets do open Tuesday, their shelves will be fully packed.

They must also be prepared for large frustrated crowds, many of whom would not of had the chance to shop Friday or by phone since then. Remember too you have all the pensioners now as they would have received their cheques and cashed them. Time to stop with the on again off again experiments.

  2. WURA-War-on-UApril 9, 2020 5:44 PM

This is one of the best opportunities i have seen in decades for positive things to happen to AND FOR the majority population on the island….time to break those bands of shite the leaders continue to wrap around and keep the people stagnated….

    nothing lasts forever..

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Best thing I’ve heard all day. No need to waste this crisis.

  3. A

    Cant look back now

I can remember the defence Force part clearly

The name or age part mayhave come later

U also agreed with some other advice given by other people

    However

Ur suggestion today is a lot more detailed Than the first advice you gave

I dont think anyone expected the partial opening yesterday to go smoothly

Tomorrow and the next day will not go smoothly either. But for each day there should be some changes and some improvements. Even some or all ur suggestions. But…. let it evolve

Hopefully it not something long term thing
We all hope thing return to normal fast
    But ………

  4. @ John 2

For the record April 7th at 3.27pm is when I made the comment about shopping by either age or surname on this thread. I also made it on another thread before that one as well.

Anyhow let’s see what tomorrow brings.

  5. My god, that John 2 can nit pick. Turning an important blog into a farce.

  6. From this last week:

We have a defence force why couldn’t we use them to ensure personal space is maintained outside the supermarkets? If that was done and the amount allowed inside limited all would of been well.
    xxxxxxxx

    To this now:

Open the supermarkets and impose personal space using the police and defence force and shop by the surname in alphabetical order. Set the day and the relevant letters allowing unobstructed access for 30 minutes to people twice a week based on their ID card.
So for example A to E will shop Monday between 8 and 12 and Thursday between 12 to 4. G to J will shop Monday afternoon between 12 to 4 and Thursday morning between 8 and 12pm etc etc .

Sure show an evolution to me!

  7. some of the highlighted part was suggested by another person before you

And all of it was in the Mauritius play book that you try to downplay this morning

  8. You mean the one example you could find to feature mirrored here in terms of failure and chaos
    XXXXXXXXXXXXX

    MAURITIUS

    Grocery Shopping
With regard to grocery shopping, Minister Lesjongard stated that access will be given in alphabetical order of family name to every Mauritian household twice per week. They are as follows: Monday and Thursday – A to F, Tuesday and Friday – G to N, Wednesday and Saturday – O to Z. The supermarkets and shops will be opened from Monday to Saturday from 09 00 hrs to 17 00hrs.
Other important details for consumers are:
    · Mauritians to be in possession of their National Identity Card and foreigners to present either their passport, residence permit or work permit
    · Only one person per family will be allowed
    · Every consumer has the obligation to wear a mask
    · Sanitary control at the entry and those with a temperature above 37.50C will be taken in charge by the Ministry of Health and Wellness
    · Shopping will be restricted to 30 minutes onlyand bring their own bags
    · Access limited to only three per persons for essential products e.g flour, rice, oil, milk, tissue papers
    XXXXXXXXXXX

    YOU ARE SUCH A HYPROCATE!

  9. PANIC BUYING ALL OVER THE WORLD even when supermarkets are left opened.

  10. Dame Bajan

there are more farce on this blog than I can inject.

Scroll to the important parts is an option to you and all others.

  11. https://barbadostoday.bb/2020/04/09/complaints-and-compliments-on-limited-shopping/?fbclid=IwAR2h75wcSByF28Gr-Tmk0N8XYMmuRZDjrf6JGSVjCmBSHZybLA0kPsLeC5s

As John A and others with enough commonsense to survive and NOT DIE minding and listening to stupid politicians and their taxpayer paid consultants who LACK BASIC MATH SKILLS….stagger the shopping BY NEED…low income shoppers eg the elderly, the disabled, then the ABLED who are also the lowest paid on the island, FIRST ….they all make up THE MAJORITY POPULATION…..by the tens of thousands and shop MORE OFTEN…

no matter method or system used to keep the supermarkets open, these are the people WHO ARE TO BE GIVEN FIRST PREFERENCE for at least 3 WEEKS out of every month…again, they are the ones who shop more OFTEN in small amounts….because of their LIMITED ACCESS TO MONEY….

    it is not rocket science..

  12. People have to understand that if they continue to walk around with their noses, mouths, heads, faces and hands UNCOVERED they are going to be INFECTED and SPREAD THE INFECTION AROUND TO EVERYONE..

…from you step outside your door without being fully covered you become a VEHICLE to be infected and a potential TRANSPORTER of the PLAGUE….thousands do not have to die before the less knowledgeable figures that out..

I see people moving about with their mouths and noses uncovered like they are invincible.

As John A and others with enough commonsense to survive and NOT DIE minding and listening to stupid politicians and their taxpayer paid consultants who LACK BASIC MATH SKILLS…..have been saying…

  13. BTW ..just saw a french clip where a dude’s wife is saying he went to the hospital in France because of a headache, called his wife and told her to come and save him because they are trying to kill him in the hospital, by the time she arrived they claimed he had died, she had to get lawyers and family to apply pressure to see the body which was missing its organs…..

Black people are being warned that the dirty and greedy will use this plague as an opportunity to harvest organs, ya done know how despicable and corrupt ya small time leaders are already, no different to the savages in Europe…

  14. Shameful shameful what is being said across social media platforms
Where are the voices of those who speaks of humanity for others but no humanity for their own the voices of the people are crying loud and clear is any one care
    Is any one listening

    Xxxxxxxxxxx

A strange breeze is blowing over this country since the last elections bajans just sitting back and taking anything and not a word this is not the time to be political but when I see certain things happening I have to speak out because this is my country I live here and I have no intentions of living no where else Were is the voices that was so vocal for the past ten years? Is it that my people is afraid to speak out against these injustices that is happening to them every day? How can you let merchants sell you one dozen eggs for thirty dollars and you buy them How can you buy two chicken legs for twenty dollars when that is the price for one large chicken

“As John A and others with enough commonsense to survive and NOT DIE minding and listening to stupid politicians and their taxpayer paid consultants who LACK BASIC MATH SKILLS…..have been saying…”
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Not so much lacking “BASIC MATH SKILLS” but that simple decision-making characteristic called COMMONSENSE which is the key ingredient missing from the approach of dealing with this whole novel Covid problem.

These people ‘managing’ the Covid problem do not have even basic survival skills themselves.
What do they know about bringing water or cooking without gas or electricity or even keeping a ‘kitchen’ garden?

It requires a good measure of commonsense to put ‘theoretical learning’ into a workable or practical approach to solving problems and in the implementation of techniques to make them suitable and effective to the ‘challenging’ situation at hand.

As the Bajan old folks used to say: “ Commonsense born before book!”

  16. https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-simulation-shows-how-coronavirus-can-spread-in-supermarket-20200409-yw5shlpvjffypfzqmpdbeilhpu-story.html#nt=oft-Single%20Chain~Flex%20Feature~new-center-chain~simulation-235p~~1~yes-art~curated~curatedpage

this simulation should alert some who DON’T KNOW that you DON’T go into the supermarketsto BROWSE and hang around during a PLAGUE .. like if ya just came to town….the aisles are numbered, select ya necessities and leave the place….ya should also be WELL COVERED.

    .it can save ya life….

  17. “Not so much lacking “BASIC MATH SKILLS” but that simple decision-making characteristic called COMMONSENSE which is the key ingredient missing from the approach of dealing with this whole novel Covid problem.”

both RANCID political parties have a history of doing everything that ultimately WORKS AGAINST THE MAJORITY POPULATION…because EVERYTHING THEY DO LACK BASIC COMMONSENSE….so basic math would be a bridge too far…remember these clowns only think and talk million dollar this and million dollar that after their equally halfassed consultant have told them what to say and do…..but when it comes to applying basic commonsense OR basic math to their daily TAXPAYER FUNDED JOBS …they are lost…

Miller…ya done know, not one of them have a clue what you just typed up there…ya may as well have just typed ARABIC.

  18. “How can you let merchants sell you one dozen eggs for thirty dollars and you buy them How can you buy two chicken legs for twenty dollars when that is the price for one large chicken.”

DIRTY merchants…DIRTIER FAKE LEADERS…their way of continuing the crimes of ROBBING the majority population DURING A PLAGUE…making survival for the Black population even more difficult and recovery IMPOSSIBLE..

    this was expected..

no doubt many of the bloated greedy pigs have shares in some of the supermarkets with their low class tiefing minority friends…

  19. They already have their crimes against the population well PLANNED OUT…starve and suffer you to the point that you are FORCED TO WORK ON THEIR MARIJUANA PLANTATIONS as slaves …for their crooked minority business partners…… whom they SOLD OUT THE TRADE TO since 2018…you will be working for very little pay so that you and generations of your children and grandchildren will NEVER PROSPER from marijuana but will still be IMPRISONED……and/or ship ya off to UK as a low paid SLAVES to repulsive racists just like Ms. Fighting Imperialism VOLUNTEERED AND PLANNED FOR YOU IN SECRET……..but they and the low life minorities will be FAT AND DISGUSTING TO LOOK AT WITH WEALTH OFF THE BACKS OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES…

when we see DEATH and DESTRUCTION….thieves and parasites SEE OPPORTUNITIES…

break those chains they have ready for you and yours…

  20. ” How can you let merchants sell you one dozen eggs for thirty dollars and you buy them How can you buy two chicken legs for twenty dollars when that is the price for one large chicken.”

Can this be true? Surely, there is some action that the government can pursue to curb this type of behavior? Are there laws against price gouging in Barbados?

Mariposa, this is one issue that you have to raise your voice against. I may not agree with your numerous different positions, but I stand with you on that item. Keep your focus, don’t let this become just an attack on the government. This is possibly life and death for some. Basic items become un-affordable.to the masses.

The government must act and quickly.

  21. This is false.

  22. Theo…the victims of that BLATANT THEFT posted the receipt to FB last night..this is a coordinated plan to oppress those who have already been oppressed for decades by these black face traitors and their tiefing minority friends.

A dozen eggs has been $15 dollars or less FOR DECADES…they have started doubling the prices of everything, the plan to turn the majority population into HELPLESS paupers is in full effect.

  23. Ya should not be paying a dollar for an egg. 30 eggs should not be more than $24 maximum.

  24. Sentence to 9mths yes i get it he is a repeat offender

The 25-year-old, of Mango Lane, St Peter, pleaded guilty to entering Jumas Restaurant, on April 6, and stealing two cases of beer, a case of bottled water and two cases of soft drinks belonging to Mark Daghorn.

But how can authorities sit idle and allow price gouging at the highest level of wickedness go on in barbados at a time when many barbadians are unemployed and struggling to make ends meet
Where is the moral duty exhibited towards bajans that allows govt to lend helping hands outsiders in times of their need
Where is the justice for our fellow people
Why are injustices being heaped on the heads of poor bajans by the powers that control local economy
Where is the voice of govt a govt necessary to speak on behalf of the people and say Wrong is Wrong

  25. David April 10, 2020 8:59 AM

    This is false

Bring your proof i have mine

  26. I KNOW what i just saw on FB is FAKE NEWS …ah know Barbados will never be so incredibly STUPID to pimp for tourists advertising the island as somewhere to SELF-ISOLATE DURING A PANDEMIC…when all the tourist they are pimping are already INFECTED WITH THE PLAGUE or are potential SUPER SPREADERS…

ah know Barbados could never be CURSED with so many downright goddamn idiots for leaders…so it gotta be FAKE NEWS..

  27. I think I have the wrong set of Bajan friends. These posts do not show when I visit Facebook.

I find myself leaning more and more towards the current administration. It is not my first choice. But the claims of some posts are too ridiculous and exaggerated for me to believe.

    Who benefits? Not one person?
Who is hurt? Barbados, Bajans and the current administration.

This is often the case where we are cutting off our nose to spite our face. A strategy that I cannot support. My course of action is to stand heads and shoulders with Lorenzo & John2. Politics does breed strange bedfellows. I want to get out of this bed of thorns… I am allergic to these guys

I am begging bloggers to be honest and truthful. Research before posting. Please…

  28. Ac are you a retard?

The receipt clearly states 36 eggs for $30…do you know how much a dozen is??

This only shows that when the blogmaster and fellow bloggers say that you a patently dishonest they are correct.

How could you boldly state that merchants are selling ‘A DOZEN’ eggs for $30. Yet produce evidence to the contrary?

Your musty weave seem to be blocking the oxygen to you brain our you probably inhaled too much of those laundromat chemicals….

  29. calm

please kindly explain how a weave can block the oxygen to someone’s brain

please kindly explain giving the relevant anatomy physiology and patho-physiology

  30. Why is it when people want to point out errors, or alleged errors, by @Mariposa, they sink to the level of savage abuse. Is it because they know no better? When we are rude to people, they also have a right to be rude to us in return.

  31. GP …. ask Trump he seems to have a handle on medical issues.

  32. “they sink to the level of savage abuse. Is it because they know no better? When we are rude to people, they also have a right to be rude to us in return.”

Correct me if I am wrong….
but is this coming from the same blogger that attacks the owner in a personal manner relentlessly??….. I must be mistaken

  33. Oh dear, the cut & paste crew has struck again? Wey the $30 eggs bill? Just like the BU experts in logistics and pandemic management are trying to convince readers that the new supermarket strategy is a failure, notwithstanding the headline: “Complaints and complements” and numerous positive reviews in the body. Regarding the use of surnames, is this a sensible approach to filter the elderly, disabled, low-income or most importantly capacity? Are we saying the proposed cohorts/ranges would capture Barbadian surnames with any sense of equitable distribution? How do we issue the permits: by name, household? How many households have individuals with different surnames? Long lines, the use of substitute brands/products or changes to what one usually cooks is not an experience unique to Bdos during these times. I find too many here on BU are supporting inflexible behaviour; we better learn resilience, if not crapaud smoke we pipe when we are faced with an even sterner test.

  34. Sir the picture i posted show chicken legs
    I do not see eggs

  35. When we are rude to people, they also have a right to be rude to us in return.”….(Quote)

  36. Austin you should be the last to talk about disrespect when YOU DISRRSPECT THE BLOGMASTER EVERY DAY. THIS IS THE SAME BLOGMASTER WHO ALLOWS YOU TO BLOG and i believe he is too lenient with you and a few others who in my view should have bee banned ever since. Here you are trying to defend blatant dishonesty from your sidekick Mariposa trying to make her the victim rather than pulling her up about her silly behaviour but then you are no better than her.Try to follow Gazzerts example although not a supporter of this government is to my surprise ttying to be objective who in jis last comment ask persons to blog the truth. I agree with him 100 percent leave out the petty politics there will be time for that.

  37. It is obvious the blatant liar is Calm
Mariposa does not wear a weave
David BU has been floating that lie about ac
Now he uses the same dam lie against Mariposa
Anyone who knows me our have seen me in person knows i do not wear a weave

  38. calm
    I asked you man
It was not Trump that posited this moronic mouthing ………
“Your musty weave seem to be blocking the oxygen to you brain ”

I ask questions when I don’t know the answers and want to learn, man

  39. Enuff, you can’t argue with these keyboard warriors. Every small child easily sees that the Wuhan plague in Barbados is spreading only linearly and the rate of doubling is decreasing every day. At the end of the month we are free of the Wuhan killer bug. Thanks to our prudent government. Thanks to Mia Mottley.

It’s finally time to proclaim her a new national heroine instead of Barrow. Barrow hasn’t had to deal with any crises. He spent his whole life scrounging money off other people. Mia Mottley is married to Barbados. She has successfully navigated Barbados through national bankruptcy. Now she faces her greatest triumph. She is the national saint and savior of Barbados.

  40. There should NEVER be a time for petty politics. Petty politics always has unnecessary bad outcomes for SOMEBODY. But this is indeed the worst time for it. Sadly some are addicted. It is indeed sickening because petty politics cares nothing for truth and objectivity. Where there is no truth there cannot be anything constructive. Only destruction can come from lies.

But the one who accuses should also take a look in the mirror. I do it every day and this morning I was looking good.

A word to the accuser. For later after the pandemic.

  41. And wunna see that fishing expedition the Salemite is on about self-isolating during a pandemic, it is another attempt to distort and mislead. I strongly suspect that story is about a British-born woman of Barbadian parentage who decided to build a house on family land in Bdos and move to Bdos. The family was making plans since the pound was 4-1, so go figure.

  42. Hello GP
as I understand things (and that may very well be inaccurate!) covid patients die as a result of the much touted “cytokine storm”. I am told cytokines are part of the body’s inflammatory response against infection. Too much cytokines create a cycle of inflammation that damages the cells of the lung. Now if a patient has a weakened immune system wouldn’t that mean that less cytokines hence less inflammation occurs? Why do such patients then do poorly?

  43. @Mariposa April 10, 2020 9:32 AM “Sentence to 9mths yes i get it he is a repeat offender. A repeat offender who was on bail when he offended again. By his own admission he and his mother had come wrong and he was sleeping on the beach.

Question for ya: Why had he and his mother “come [so] wrong?” that he could no longer sleep in her home?

  44. Why is it when people want to point out errors, or alleged errors, by @Mariposa, they sink to the level of savage abuse. Is it because they know no better? When we are rude to people, they also have a right to be rude to us in return. {Quote}

    xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Wuh really wrong with you? YOU MUST BE ONE BITTER, LONELY MAN.

If the people here on BU were not so DECEITFUL or SCARED of you, they would tell you that’s EXACTLY the same thing you do to the blogmaster and others.

When somebody, especially the blogmaster, posts a comment with a mistake or 2, you ask them to repeat what they said in plain English, if grammar is not taught in schools anymore and end up calling them keyboard warriors, village idiots and silly, appallingly ignorant, semi-literate buffoons that learn by rote and suffering from the Bajan Condition.

What about you calling human beings savages that should be in the jungle?

This is the same thing as sinking to savage abuse.

When people retaliate, you does come here moaning and groaning every day and dropping all kinds of remarks.

  45. Also i specifically made note that the posting was made on social media
Any mistakes therfore cannot attributed to Mariposa
Yes it was a mistake make
However i egg costing 85 cents is still an abomination when one considers a family of four to feed daily each having one egg per day
Can u not understand that for a family of four them eggs going to last 9 days
30eggs lasting 9 days at 85 cents each is criminal at that price
The price for a year would be astronomical
Can understand how one can find a mistake but in finding the mistake cannot add a touch of humanity towards an individual who might have to feed a family of four for a week on a food item that only last for9 days
    Give me a friggin break
Reason why the poor barbadian suffer so much is because of the many duffus quick to support injustice by any means necessary

9×4 eggs per day per family = 36 eggs at 85 cents with a total of 30.00
Actually in a month the family would have spent aprox close to 120 dollars for eggs to feed a family of four
In one year approx 1’440 dollars on eggs alone
Now tell is that fair in a country where minimum wage is low

  46. @Mariposa ““How can you let merchants sell you one dozen eggs for thirty dollars and you buy them How can you buy two chicken legs for twenty dollars when that is the price for one large chicken.”

    You don’t buy the eggs.

There is no shortage of eggs.

The real-real fowls [as distinct from political yard fowls] are still laying eggs everyday. if you don’t have eggs in the house right now eat whatever other proien you have in the house. Sardines, corned beef, sausage, tuna, peanut butter, cheese, chicken.

No need to let anybody juck out ya eye just because of covid.

I have a relative allergic to eggs. Hasn’t eaten eggs in nearly 40 years. Still alive and very, very well.

Nobody will die if they don’t eat eggs for the rest of their life.

    Stupssseee!!!

P.S. People bend over and let the merchants bull them and then complain “the merchant bulled me”

    Don’t bend over.
