Venezuela Peace Talks on Tropical Paradise Island Barbados

It was confirmed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados that groups representing President Nicolás Maduro and seld declared President Juan Guaidó have been meeting in Barbados to find a resolution to the ongoing crisis in Venezuela. The Norway government is reported to be mediating the discussions between the two parties.

Barbados has enjoyed friendly relations with Venezuela that reached a peak in the 70s and 80s under late President Carlos Andrés Pérez. The blogmaster sincerely wishes for a positive outcome to the meeting. The hopes and fears of millions of Venezuelans rest on the outcome.

The decision to host the meeting in Barbados must be viewed as positive if only for the international attention the tiny island will receive. Lord knows all earned media is needed at this time.

An observation one can legitimately make is that since Mia Mottley assumed the job as Prime Minster, she wasted no time breathing life into Brand Barbados on the regional and internation fronts. Barbados’ reputation had taken a heavy hit under former Prime Minster Freundel Stuart whose introverted nature saw him preferring to read a book with a glass of wine on his patio after 5PM until bedtime. His Foreign Minister was a hard worker with a heart in the right place but lacked the gravitas to elevate Barbados on the outside. Her many sojourns overseas reflect she tried her hardest.

There was a period back in the day when Barrow, Burnham, Adams, Manley, Williams and a few others were on a first name basis with leaders from England, Canada, Singapore and others- these relationships were formed at university and made governing tiny islands tolerable. Fast forward to today, those relationships no longer exist. Some may point to Mottley’s play book as the alternative to ferment relationships to leverage for the benefit of Barbados and the region.

We have to end this blog on a tangential note by asking Prime Minister Mottley to address the outstanding issue of the ongoing negotiations with the external creditors led by White Oaks.  We are aware that although the external debt is not large compared to the domestic debt the aggressive 3 year recovery plan will be compromised if it becomes protracted.

  • One would hope the talks succeed. Having said that, it can also be said that one is witnessing a diversionary tactic meant to assuage the populace’s fears that every thing is honky-dory:since Barbados seems to be playing a leading role on the international arena. This is however an illusion. At home the following problems still exist : a public transport system still in chaos; levels of corruption have reached new heights; a dysfunctional judiciary; the NIS according to the IMF; facing serious insolvency problems; a part of the populace has no access to potable water on a sustained basis;;highways in need of repair and one can go on with a host of other problems (settlement of the foreign debt issue needs to be achieved). As I have said before, what we are witnessing here is an actress full of a lot of glib talk signifying nothing.

  • What ignorance!

Barbados was referred to as ‘paradise’ at the height of chattel slavery.

We said here yesterday, and will say again, that these negotiations are a good-get for Barbados and Mugabe. She should be applauded for embarking on the soft power strategy of the Zone of Peace rhetoric of Sir William Skinner et al/

For nearly a century Barbados was the centre of the first globalization epoch. Now, to deploy infamy in the service of soft power is a great idea.

    Well, Venezuela is not either

But it has been made to be, in some ways, by the criminal orangutan in the White House.

David, instead you should see both these Bridgetown negotiations and the financial imperialism imposed of Venezuela as apocryphal in fashioning the alternatives to the post 1945 architecture.

For Venezuela is deploying the Russian international SWIFT alternative mechanism, CIPS. They are also using the Chinese version as well.

With Barbados coming on the scene with these negotiations, given the country steadfast commitment to the non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, adds to alternative dispute resolutions mechanisms not dominated by the idiots in Washington.

It’s amazing that a man who seized power is treated with such reverence. Nobody went to the table to negotiate with the New Jewel Movement and Maurice Bishop. They got with Reagan and Eugenia Charles and crushed the revolution. One remembers Tom Adams a Prime Minister with camera taking pictures of the US bomber planes as they left our airport.
Of course the reactionaries will argue that they invaded after cracks in the leadership appeared but the historical truth is that Caribbean leaders endorsed the invasion of a sister country.
However this meeting will have some residual benefits for our Prime Minister and can be seen as a diplomatic coup. In the real world of geopolitical machinations, we have to be forever aware of all possibilities both negative and positive .

For Maurice Bishop led the successful overthrow of an established and repressive government and under international law then himself constituted the recognized authority in Grenada, by the UN, others.

This idiot Guido has no control or legal authority whatsoever anywhere in Venezuela. The only thing he has is the criminal support of the orangutan in the White House.

  • The image of Barbados has already been tarnished by corruption and gun violence
Hosting a “peace party” on the island would not save barbados out of its economic problems
All that is happening with this “peace talk ” is just an arrangement of chairs known as musical chairs
The head chief and bottle washer couldn’t care less where the talks are held as long as he remains dictator of Venezuela

As you would know, we have more than a modicum of respect for your views.

Sir William Skinner has rightly argued that the Caribbean should be a Zone of Peace.

In valuing peace, as we value other social systems, it would be a necessary precondition to build the regional institutions, networks, etc where the projection of peace helps us to prevent those who would want our region to be somehow embroiled in war, of any kind.

If this reasoning meets the threshold of logic, then would the infrastructure for peace not add value to our notion as to what our country should represents.

And if these infrastructures for peace can deliver results and show the world the benefits of having new centres aimed at avoiding war not elevate Barbados, the Caribbean, to a better place?

I have repeatedly state that one shouldn’t allow one’s dislike of a person or country to cloud one’s judgement. The siting of anti-missile systems in this case is irrelevant. Venezuela is surrounded by countries that are for the most part not very friendly to it. There are logistical and supply line issues to be considered. Obviously there are US and British special forces on the ground, who by now would have targets pin-pointed ( Type of armaments and so on). It is not difficult to neutralized the surface -air missiles. Just like the onset of a bacterial infection, there are so many colony forming units (CFU)present, that the body defenses cannot cope with them, as a result the person becomes ill. Similarly, swamping the missile batteries with ant-missile rockets renders them inoperative. There is also old fashion sabotage. If you feel that that the Americans would allow China or Russia to resupply materiel, you would have to be living in a world of make believe. The imposition of a hostile zone and a sea and air quarantine would put paid to any effort to resupply Venezuela. America spends over $650 billion dollars per annum on defense( more than all the other countries combined); all the other countries are trying to steal their technology. After spending that amount of money, if you think the Americans don’t have a counter (the Americans do not talk a lot of their capability) you are living in a wonderland

If you want to see the ‘hiding’ rat just remove the broken-down palisades concealing the Four Seasons disaster.

You can bet your last foreign dollar that if some viable foreign debt restructuring arrangement is not put in place by August the IMF would be putting pressure on Barbados to seriously reconsider the country’s longstanding monetary romance and relationship with the Greenback.

You fight a war to win by any means. You ignore the press and allow the generals to get on with the fighting. Just outline what is wanted and allow the generals to act. You don’t put an artillery general in command of troops fighting basically a guerrilla war, especially when the general is very cautious like general Franks was. There is a drift to the right in all western countries, the day of liberalism is numbered: the multicultural crap peddled by the left is going to be overthrown. Note the laws being put into place all over Europe. There is going to be a civil war and Muslims will be expelled from the west it is only a matter of time. You keep on talking about the west trading with Muslims; mainly oil and arms with green energy and new extraction methods the need to trade is diminishing. The UN has been keeping noise about the Chinese treatment of Muslims, have you heard any great noise being kept over the matter?with the Burmese, there is a lot of talk but little action on the treatment meted out to Muslims . The rest of the world really don’t care too much about what happens to Muslims. Do you really think non-Muslims want Muslims to settle in their countries? This why there is a drift to the right. At first there was a lot of noise about Hungary’s erecting fences. All of the countries have some type of barrier to keep out Muslims. The day is coming when the border forces will use lethal force, it is only a matter of time 9( it has already happened in one of those eastern European countries).

  • Norway says Venezuela opposition and government talks to continue

CARACAS (Reuters) – Talks between Venezuela’s government and the opposition will continue, Norway’s foreign ministry said on Thursday, after a top Socialist Party leader announced the end of this week’s round of Oslo-backed talks to end a political crisis.

Representatives of the ruling Socialist Party met with adversaries of President Nicolas Maduro this week in Barbados as part of talks that began in Norway in May to resolve a stalemate resulting from Maduro’s disputed 2018 re-election.

“We announce that the representatives of the main political actors in Venezuela are continuing the negotiations that were initiated in Oslo,” Norway’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

“We emphasise the importance of the parties showing utmost caution in their comments and statements about the process.

Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez, who led the government’s delegation, late on Wednesday said via Twitter that the Barbados round of talks had concluded.

The information ministry did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the statement from Norway.

“The Venezuelan people need answers and results,” wrote Stalin Gonzalez, an legislator and member of the opposition delegation via Twitter following the Norway statement.

“Our delegation will hold consultations to advance and end the Venezuelans’ suffering.”

Venezuela is suffering a hyperinflationary economic meltdown that has resulted in malnutrition and disease and spurred a migration exodus of more than 4 million citizens. Maduro says the situation is the result of U.S. sanctions meant to force him from office.

Maduro’s adversaries have for years been wary of dialogue proceedings, insisting he has in the past used them to stall for time.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido, who has been recognized by more than 50 countries as Venezuela’s legitimate leader, says the opposition will not allow this round of talks to drag out like those in the Dominican Republic that ended unsuccessfully in 2018.

Guaido in January invoked the constitution to assume a rival interim presidency after declaring Maduro’s re-election a fraud and insisting the country needs to hold a new vote under proper conditions.

Socialist Party Vice President Diosdado Cabello, who is influential in Maduro’s government, on Wednesday night dismissed the idea that any presidential election was in the works.

“Here there are no presidential elections; here the president is named Nicolas Maduro,” Cabello said during a televised broadcast.

Else where on this blog I have Talked about countries such as Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia . Muslim majority countries where non-Muslim minorities are treated like dirt. The minorities are not white so why are they treat so badly? I have a problem with a religion that is as intolerant as Islam. That is why I am opposed to it. It is as simple as that. Try telling the minorities in the above named countries how loving Islam is. As for the western powers treatment of Muslims, as I have said before when superior technology encounters inferior technology, the former prevails South -east Asia was once totally Buddhist but the Muslims had superior technology and today a large part of the area is Islamic. Similarly with countries like Greece, Bulgaria and parts Hungary were conquered by and controlled by Muslims. for centuries. Why do you think Victor Orban is so hostile towards them? What about Spain?

Lose the war and your country becomes a de facto vassal state. Your cultural norms are replaced by an alien cultural norm. The start of most wars have a murky beginning. With one side saying that the other side started it. However it was started, the object is to win it. The victor writes the history, so even if subterfuge was done, the victor wipes it out of history.

  • We have never observed that Islam is any more ‘intolerant’ than any other religion. This is mere propaganda.

Minorities in the UK, a Christian country, have generally been treated no different. Islam says it’s wrong but like other religions a lot of wrong things slip into the religion.

America is the fountainhead for the mistreatment of minorities.

Ethiopians in the Zionist state, though more ancient than all others and Jews themselves are treated like dogs. Are the Zionists not invading Islam’s most holy places too?

We well know the history of the Ottoman invasions, turning Christian holy places in Mosques etc.

Where did the Muslims obtained their knowledge before they were able to pass it on? They got it from those who had the knowledge before them. They translated the works of non-Muslims I grant them that and the translated works were spread to Barbarian Europe( for example the Jewish Islamic scholar Moses Maimonides did a lot of work). As a matter one Muslim scholar depicted the Europeans as backward ,with little or no knowledge of personal hygiene. The point remains, the unwashed Barbarians have taken the world to a technological level it has not seen in recorded history. Note I have said recorded history. A greater technical capability might have existed prior to recorded history. When one writes a thesis, a survey of the literature is done, where those who went before in the particular discipline are acknowledge. knowledge builds upon knowledge..

  • THE TRUTH ABOUT THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD

THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD ARE CALLED A BENEVOLENT ISLAMIC ORGANIZATION BY SOME, TERRORISTS BY OTHERS. WHAT IS THE TRUTH?

TOTALITARIANISM DOES NOT HAVE A RELIGION, IT ONLY HAS PEOPLE THAT WANT TO RULE OTHERS AND THIS PHILOSOPHY IS COMMON TO COMMUNISM/FASCISM/NAZISM/SOCIALISM/LIBERALISM, ENVIRONMENTALISM, AND CORRUPTED ISLAMISM.

They are even Secret Societies that also have the same goals. The enemy of good people is not a black man, is not a white man, is not a yellow man it always has been a man that wants to rule over men by force.

The World has Two Ideologies either you believe in Freedom or you believe in Force/Tyranny. One is making the Individual Supreme the other is to subject him to the ruling Elite whether it is Collectivism or Dictatorship, and we are to choose what we will follow… 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Where the Spirit of the Lord there is Freedom”

The Globalist will use the Islamist by way of Pursuing the Open Boarders to Conquer Nations. They share the same Ideology ‘to take away the Free Agency of man’. That is their Ideology of Communism/Marxism/Socialism and Radical Islamism. That is why those Communist/Marxist like Pmama and his ilk support Extremist. The First Rule of the Left and Radical Islam is that of Submission to bring about their Elitist Purposes…A sure process of Deceit and Decay bringing all that would listen and obey into Slavery and Bondage.

Since its arrival in the UK, the Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded and led by Arab Muslims, spread to the UK’s predominantly non-Arab Muslims, many of whom immigrated from Pakistan and India.

In the 1980s, the de facto headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood’s European operations moved from Munich, Germany to Leicestershire’s Markfield Conference Centre, which is owned by the Islamic Foundation, a group affiliated with the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the main Muslim lobby in Britain.

Since then, the Muslim Brotherhood spread quickly across Britain, launching groups and using them to take control of other Islamic organizations. Examples include the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), the main Muslim Brotherhood group in Britain that now dominates the MCB mentioned above.

Muslims are killing non-Muslims indiscriminately around the world, including in USA (Boston, Orlando, San Bernardino), UK (London, Manchester), France (Paris, Nice), Belgium (Brussels), Spain (Madrid), Germany (Berlin), Russia (Beslan, Saint Petersburg), Indonesia (Bali).

They are also killing Christians discriminately in the Middle East (e.g., Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey), Africa (e.g., Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, Niger, Libya, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Ivory Coast, Somalia) and Asia (e.g., The Philippines, Indonesia).

Therefore, the fear or dislike of Islam is neither “irrational” nor “exaggerated” nor “unfounded,” but eminently rational and founded in light of the instructions in the Quran and the actions of Muslims today. It would in fact be irrational to not fear or dislike those who are trying to kill you. After all, would you accuse the Jews in Europe in 1942 of suffering from irrational “Naziphobia”?

@Doc Lucas, u write rather easily that :

“The imposition of a hostile zone and a sea and air quarantine would put paid to any effort to resupply Venezuela. “

It just isn’t that simple. The Caribbean and Atlantic sea area cannot be considered the free domain of the US as for example Crimea area was for Russia.

To delve into a Cuba missle crisis repeat would be mind blowing for this current administration ; sprinkle in Iran playing war mongers on other side of world and your ease of the US overcoming because they are the King Kongs of wasr armaments becomes a complete non factor in every way.

At the time of the Iraq war the US was also the big gorillifant and they had the backing of other heavy weights …they still came up short in the short term and still to this day… how on Earth do you foresee them succeeding so easily now taking on a fight (what exactly would be the fight) very likely WITHOUT any of those other players support and in a very hostile home political environment.

Only if it was as easy as you make it seem!

    What Master Plan, what!!!

The only Force which can destroy planet Earth is its Creator, the Sun.
And homo sapiens will disappear from the face of the Earth long before that happens.

Why can’t you islamophobes recognize there is very little difference between the branches that share the Abrahamic tree of religion stolen from Kemet and ‘reconditioned’ in the wilderness of the Middle East?

Islam, like its older siblings of Judaism and Christianity, started out as a breakaway cult from the mainstream religion of the period.

They all share similar values in the promotion of peace, the brotherhood of humanity and an altruistic mission to look after the poor, disenfranchised and sick of society while promising a brighter tomorrow.

They also have been taken over by ‘institutionalized’ agents whose mission is to usurp power and exploit the masses to satisfy the materialistic greed of the ruling elite of the particular society.

Checkout the history of the accumulated riches of the Catholic and Anglican Churches!

Isn’t Islam going through the same phases which Christianity went though in the so-called Middle Ages of blatant persecution and conquest; even right into the Ages of Enlightenment?

Who threatened Galileo with banishment and death unless he recanted his theory based on scientific facts?

Who went to the so-called New World with Bible in one hand and gun in the other and decimated the native peoples and stole their lands and resources?

Aren’t Muslims today following suit with their demands for the creation of conditions to promote Sharia law and the establishment of caliphates in the West?

Don’t they all promote the eschatological view of an Omega (Day of Resurrection and Judgment aka Yawm al-Qiyāmah/Yawm ad-Dīn) when some invisible god would return on some spacecraft to take only 144,000 to some Paradise in the sky?

The only difference between these fighting factions with their similar origins in the hotbed of war called the Middle East is that their holy days vary according to the alignment of the Earth with the Sun and the phases of the Moon.

Freedom grew up in the world just like you, I came and found it but I had something that everybody else had, the ability to Choose and could have chosen any which way to go including any Ideology to follow and recognised this early in life. I also recognised that you could lose yourself along these paths and encountered many people who had and recognised that that road was not for me as we all do.

We end up Choosing the Road we want to travel. Moreover, we all think we are making the Right Choice but there was this book that was from way back and when I saw it as the Wisdom of the Ancients I strove to Understand what was contained therein and learnt many things and it helped me from making Wrong Choice. In addition, I recognised that people who read the book and people who do not, still make wrong choices. By in large people who follow the teachings in the book are better people than those who don’t and that fact gave encouragement.

They are many Esoteric and Weird Dogmas out there, in order to understand those Strange Philosophies or get caught in any of their side roads it is better to be Grounded first in the Wisdom of the Ancients before looking in the side roads. There may be some worth in the things you think, but I never want to be in the Position of Straining Gnats and Swallowing Camels.
