Once There is Hope There is a Future

There is the perspective about what are the defining characteristics of a human being compared to the other (non human). Some will retreat to the world of the esoteric, others draw from life experience laced with a commonsense perspective.

For over a decade the blogmaster supported by members of his household have been motivated by the importance of keeping HOPE alive in our personal life. It is a simple yet powerful philosophy to abide by  – without kindling that flame of hope there is no basis upon which we can hope to innovate and adapt to sustain an acceptable way of life, to realize our dreams.

The imperfection of man given the fallibility strand which helps to define us makes us vulnerable to being overwhelmed with the vicissitudes of life. This will give rise to hopelessness, frustration and a myriad of other susceptibilities. During moments when hope dims some members of the human species are able to fuel recovery from an indomitable spirit that resides in some of us. A flickering flame that always guards the darkness that surrounds us.

Some are critical of Winston Churchill for how he operated in a bygone era with good reason. However for some of us that rely on the power of oral and written communication to awaken the understanding in the audience it serves- his first speech as Prime Minister to the House of Commons on May 13, 1940 supports a valid point.

This extract from Churchill’s speech resonated and served to sway public support for a war that had taken its toll on Britain from the marauding Germans during the second world war:

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

Barbados is facing one of its most challenging periods. It is an easy task to surrender to the emotions that control hopelessness and despair within us. The capacity to break free from self talk and old behaviours that have served us well up to now require a differential human capacity. The human experience supports a view that a minority element in the population is always charged with finding a way to keep hope alive in the wider group.

There is also the suggestion a human being must be made to believe in something to give purpose to his existence. Some in the BU family will make the predictable interpretation. For some life’s journey is fuelled by transactional thoughts, for others there is the overarching importance of injecting the philosophical to how we guide our lifes.

This is a figurative call to Arms to Barbadians everywhere.

We know well what you mean by this thing ‘hope’. And you do not intend simplistic notions.

However, such models have been so misused and abused that there is now a growing, and maybe overwhelming, dissonance within.

Such disharmonies need to be reconciled, as a condition coming before.

This is the Xmas season. Why this melancholy ? One should be happy and jolly spreading the good news of peace and love. Time to lay down your arms.
The notion of hope is born of hopelessness, and haplessness. Who are you fighting ? Are you fighting yourselves? The situation that you are in you have created either by your sins of commission or sins of omission.

So size round and give love and faith some room to operate.

What are you saying? There is no room to debate in the omissions and commission as you say to inform a new order of thinking? You support a stasis order of things? Speak up man!

We are uncertain what that is likely to be.

It could be anything between a wide rage of possibilities. At one end of the scale there could be apathy. At the other – a Churchillian response as you would like.

For example, the self-immolation of Mohammed Boouazizi acted as a trigger for Tunisia but the events thereafter represent the opposite of his righteous intentions.

Personally, though we see Churchill as great for his island home, the man who prevented ‘most’ of the world from being Germanize, he cannot represent the ultimate fountainhead of being – for us.

We could never look to Churchill and the totality of what he represents for inspiration, but most will.

    David is quite right.

This ‘season’ does not mandate a cease of hostilities in the many wars, hot and cold, being fought around the world.

At its centre, it presents a bounty of food, drink and music to act as the opium of the many, if they could get them.

But when this imposed merriment is done problems will still be present.

And while the many are distracted with surrealism a few people like David must seek a heightened consciousness.

  • “If” by Rudyard Kipling…

If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

TRUMP A MAN OF HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW!!!

Your comment cements the point of the blog. Some of us cannot be distracted because we show leadership at all times.

  • We need a little “opium” periodically. We need a little rest for the purpose of rejuvenation.

Hope is necessary in order for us to -envision a brighter future. Unfortunately the action that must accompany hope to fulfill that hoped for reality usually comes at a cost that most of us seem unwilling to pay. The people who first step forward to force the change usually sacrifice much. In some countries their very lives could be forfeit. We don’t expect that to be the case but still we cower in fear. Or is it just laziness? Or is it that there isn’t really any hope in our minds except in the Lord?

Anyway, what I expect will happen in Barbados is that when true hopelessness sets in the violence will be so bad that the powers that be will do a little thing to appease the masses for a while. Much like in 1937.

  • Hope resides in the former old energy, striving as it were, for expectations built upon those experiences expectant of betterment. TIME FOR THE NEW TINKING OF TAKING ACTION.

TODAY and going forward into the future, Humanity (those who have been prepared) are empowered to create and manifest their desired realities for themselves, their environment and the Earth, to help, teach and assist those on the path and those who are oblivious to their present reality.
The majority is found wanting, searching, in a state flux, unknowing, non resonating.

Churchhill was an agent working on both sides of the fence for a greater cause, in that old energy.

CHURCHILL made the association of FIGHT with that for CHANGE.. a new world order, under guise and expense of sacrificing innocent souls, brothers and sisters of his ilk and others on both sides of the fence. IT WAS A NEGATIVE INFLUENCE OF HOPE.

Can you figure what a POSITIVE INFLUENCE might have been achieved?

Well if the consciousness survives the body, and if I have been here already many times before, somehow my consciousness hasn’t done very well, because I have absolutely no knowledge that I have been here before. And truthfully I don’t care if I have been here before, and I don’t care if I will be here again. Truly both my pastes” and my “futures” are matters of complete indifference for me.

I live as I have always lived, in the right now. Yesterday is gone and I cannot change that. Tomorrow i don’t know whether I will be here or not, and I have no control over that either.

Long ago one of my children asked if there is anything that God cant do. And my reply is that not even God can change the past.

All peoples can become unrepentant vegans.

And even people like our friend Bushie could stop eating grains – tef, sorghum, millet, quinoa, wild rice. All low glycemic, slow burning, but still activate the production of insulin. And that has consequences as argued and evidenced by alternative practitioners.

A radical veganism can reduce more greenhouse gases than all the other sources. Meat production causes most of the greenhouse gases.

We are also calling for the acceptance of a one-meal-a-day policy as the new global standard.
