Ross University School of Medicine Debate

Lisa Wardell, President and CEO, Adtalem Global Education

[Barbados Underground] The decision by the principals of Ross University School of Medicine to relocate to Barbados has sparked a debate across the region. The blogmaster sees the decision for what it is, Ross’ owner made a BUSINESS decision to move from hurricane ravaged Dominica to a user friendly – out of the hurricane track – geography.

The more important question Barbadians should be asking is what concessions were given to Ross University School of Medicine by the Mottley government. While in opposition Mottley and team were strident in the call for concessions given to Sandals, Cost-U-Less and a few others be shared with the public. Guess what, the public is none the wiser after being in office for more than three months.

In response to requests from members of the BU family to create a blog space to facilitate debate the blogmaster is pleased to share the letter Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit issued to President and CEO Lisa Wardell of Adtalem Global Education – parent company of Ross University – last month to inform the discussion.

Thanks to the BU family member for sharing!

  1. Tax waivers or concessions(given) to any person individual or group are known as taxpayers money granted to govt on a promise that govt would guard and protect with the interest of the people and country Ross is an outside entity now located in Barbados govt has avail Ross to entitlements that belong to the State
It therfore behooves me to think that asking govt to release transactions between govt and Ross is deemed offensive because of the asking …especially when recent actions between Ross and Dominica shows that Ross was not altogether truthful on meetings with the Dominican govt.

Why are medical schools being attracted to Barbados? The business plan we are told includes a sought after forex inflow which is gold dust for an island about to apply for IMF SDR drawdowns, employing people, and other economic considerations etc. This preamble explains why NIS and other Government departments owed will look the other way even codes are being contravened.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Laundries perhaps?

  3. How can the business plans of medical schools include forex? This is more waffle about finance that the guy does not understand. He should post anonymously.

    • You are a buffoon par excellence. The inflows from medical schools with a foreign student population originate from where? You may have the last word on this matter.

The following information, which was taken from the BGIS website, should be of interest, not only to you…….but also to Mariposa and the resident pantomath….both of whom have been hypocritically and over exaggerating this non issue.

The information has to do with the relocation of AUIS to Barbados.

“Speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony this weekend to mark the official opening of the university’s Basic Sciences Facility, Dr Edward Layne, a gastroenterologist and native of Barbados, provided the background of the AUIS’ move to Barbados.

Layne, who served as the honorary consul for Barbados in Atlanta for the past 20 years before his retirement last December, was instrumental in paving the pathway for the institution’s move to Barbados.

“Two years ago, a young visionary entered my office, his name was Mr Milo Pinckney. He said to me, ‘Dr. Layne, I am not a doctor but I am the son of a physician entrepreneur with Caribbean roots’. He said ‘I am a businessman, who owns a medical school and have several patents in the field of medical technology’, and that in my opinion may be able to revolutionise the training of young doctors and the practice of medicine.”

He added that he was quite curious as Pinckney explained his interest in moving the university to Barbados and deploying a patented, medical information technology device called the Clinical Activity Rotation Log or CARL.
    +++++++++++++++++++++

I found the following information very interesting.

“Admittedly impressed by what the young businessman had to say, Layne introduced him to the minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, Senator Maxine McClean, while hosting the fourth biennial Barbados Comes to Atlanta event in May 2016.

Sharing his perspective of the experience, Pinckney explained that when he met McClean a year and a half ago, “in a moment’s notice” she saw the merit in what they presented when they proposed to move AUIS to Barbados.

“She embraced it with such vigour that she visited our offices in Atlanta to see first-hand what we were doing, and she said ‘I can get behind it’ and championed the move here…”
    ±++++++++++++++

Note, Maxine McClean “EMBRACED it with such VIGOUR that she visited our offices in Atlanta to see first-hand what we were doing, and she said ‘I CAN GET BEHIND it’…………and championed the move here…”

Also….…….”The minister of foreign affairs EXPLAINED that CONVINCING HER COLLEAGUES was “not a HARD TASK” as they all recognised the potential of the institution as it has been demonstrating its capacity to produce good students.”

    • @Artax

Read the extract with interest. There is obviously a naive perception/understanding on the blogmaster’s part that a transaction to allow entry of an offshore medical school a level of rigour would have been applied. It is scary to extrapolate to other transactions where due diligence is expected to be a prerequisite to approval by Cabinet. Did somebody say CAHILL?

  5. It would not be part of the Ross business plan, earning forex, even if it will benefit Barbados. There is a difference. I always promise myself to ignore your silliness, but you abuse your position as chairman of the board of BU. You are a Google fake

    • The point that was being made is that government agencies owed monies have been known to look the other way because of the other benefits they bring to the economy, in the case of the medical schools they are responsible for being foreign exchange into the country, employing people etc. Tou are truly a buffoon.

  6. Ms Ram seem to be one of the main beneficiaries of the presence of these indian medical students here in Barbados.

She and Popular supermarket I am told ha ha.They know where to shop cheap.Good for them lol.

  7. Georgie Porgie

Ironically, the DLP also mounted their election campaign on a platform of good governance, transparency and accountability……yet they were instrumental in soliciting over five medical schools to “set up shop” in Barbados, in circumstances where the Barbadians do not have any knowledge of what concessions were granted to intice these universities……..

………especially under circumstances where AUIS’s relocation to Barbados, were similar to that of Ross.

….,…and we have another situation where the former minister of education was given a job as vice chancellor of a medical school that came into Barbados with his approval.

What concessions Ronald Jones offered the school’s hierarchy and prior arrangements made to facilitate the school moving to Barbados….. in exchange for his job…..in the event his party lost the election?

What effect did AUIS’s relocating to Barbados have on the economies of St. Eustatius and St. Maarten……and what percentages of GDP, employment, and income from providing goods and services to students……were lost as a result of the move?

Did the move affect diplomatic relations between the Dutch Antilles and Barbados?

These are reasonable questions and should not be interpreted as a “tit for tat” situation.

  8. You are trying to be rude to hide your ignorance, but you are not in a position to be rude to anyone. If you are making a point then make it in simple understandable English. Not Google speak. Don’t try to shift the argument, you are not talking to your kids. You said the Ross business plan would factor in foreign exchange. You are wrong. What business plan?
If you are now saying that government revenue collecting departments turn a blind eye to the non-payment of national insurance because they bring forex in to the country, it testifies to your simple arithmetic. In this little world of yours, these so-called medical schools are bringing in forex (the students actually bring in the forex and it is not certain if they pay their fees in Barbados or overseas, similar to Sandals hotel guests). Who really benefits in real terms?
This is the kind of appalling ignorance your silly intervention in complex arguments shores up. BU is your toy, we all know that. But you are adding to the waffle that often passes as serious public discussion. It is the outcome of learning by rote.

  9. Ross business school in my opinion has no integrity or character
After several meetings with the Dominican govt by which Ross had agreed with the govt of Dominica to continue upgrades and do all necessary repairs and improvement for the university
Then at the last minute makes a beeline for Barbados
It is a distinctive tell that Ross cannot be trusted and any interactions or agreements Ross makes with small island govt should not be taken with an seriousness by small island govts
Mia Mottley might be in for a rude awakening after unloading tax concessions on Ross to soon realize that nothing of benefit for barbados was on Ross agenda but when handed an opportunity it is all about Ross
This govt is trying to hide what are said to be glorious concessions to Ross a govt that made a promise of transparency can only hide what was given for so long

  10. ARTAX

re What effect did AUIS’s relocating to Barbados have on the economies of St. Eustatius and St. Maarten…
AUIS (FORMERLY St. Eustatius) WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE DUTCH GOVERNMENT, SO SOME FOLK BOUGHT IT AND MOVED IT TO ST MAARTEN, FROM WHENCE IT HAS MOVED TO BIM.

IT SEEMS THAT THERE WAS SOME AGREEMENT WITH GOVERNMENTS IN THE PAST TO GIVE CONCESSIONS SUCH AS WAIVER OF INCOME TAX AND NIS ETC……….BUT FOR MOST OF THE SCHOOLS WHICH HAVE FEW STAFF MEMBERS. I SUPPOSE THAT SUCH CONCESSIONS MIGHT HAVE BEEN A REASONABLE INCENTIVE TO BRING WHAT I LIKE TO CALL LONG TERM TOURISTS. NOTE THAT FEES ARE PAID USUALLY TO THE HOME OFFICE IN THE USA

I DONT KNOW WHAT CONCESSIONS WERE GIVEN TO ROSS……..PROBABLY THE SAME AS ABOVE

AFTER 8 MONTHS IN JAMAICA THE GUYS WERE TALKING ABOUT ME HAVING TO PAY TAXES SO I LEFT FOR THAT AND OTHER REASONS.

    HAL ARGUES

the students actually bring in the forex and it is not certain if they pay their fees in Barbados or overseas, similar to Sandals hotel guests). Who really benefits in real terms?

BENEFITS COME USUALLY TO HOME OWNERS, CAR RENTAL PLACES, SUPERMARKETS ETC. WHEN I WAS INVITED TO BE A DEAN OF A SCHOOL IN ST KITTS IN 2008 I REALIZED THAT MANY FOLK THERE HAD ADDED ON “BACK ROOMS” AND OTHER PLACES FOR RENTS IN THEIR YARDS. ( I ALSO WITNESSED THIS IN BONAIRE IN 2004)

THIS WAS NEEDED WHEN WINDOR EXPANDED AND WHEN UMHS CAME ON THE SCENE IN STKITTS. SOME STUDENTS WERE STAYING IN HOTELS……AS WAS THE CASE WHEN I TAUGHT IN CURACAO

BARBADOS WILL BENEFIT FROM THE OFFSHORE SCHOOLS MAINLY FROM THE EXPENDITURE OF THE STUDENTS AS LONG STAY (2 YEARS AT LEAST) TOURISTS

  11. RE John August 14, 2018 3:43 PM

Why are medical schools being attracted to Barbados?
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Laundries perhaps? INDEED

SCHOOLS WITH A STUDENT ROLL OF LESS THAN 90 THAT GO ON LIKE THIS FOR A WHILE ARE PROBABLY LAUNDRIES.

I WAS TAUGHT VIA FREDERICK WHO OWNED AND RAN BOTH MUA & SABA THAT THE BREAK EVEN POINT IN THE OFFSHORE MEDITAL STOOL INDUSTRY IS 90 STUDENTS

THE REASON WHY SPSOM/JBJDL ST THERESA, ST HELENS, BURNETTS ETC WENT OFF THE SCENE.
AT ONE POINT IUHS HAD TO CLOSE AND UHSA WAS ON THE BRINK

  12. There is so much undermining tactics in this Ross story Barbados relationship and the nefarious efforts involved that both Ross and Barbados govt took which in essence could be categorized as another category five hurricane that hit Dominca only this time it was man made
    What a dam shame

Seems as if Hal has a crush on a new man…..

Trying hard to remember his unforgettable questions to John but cannot…

John, when did breadfruit come to Barbados?
    John, is the earth round?
What was the name of the Quaker who brought us breadfruits?

I noticed you’re a well travelled individual…..you and I seemed to have visited majority of the Caribbean islands.

I find Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barths to be very beautiful islands, but I have not have the pleasure of working in any of them…….. only in Antigua, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.

When you’re serious, you make some excellent contributions and display a thorough knowledge of the operations of these medical schools

It would be a pleasure to know some details of your experiences working in these islands.

  19. Btw Ralph Gonsalves put he too cents in the debate trying to defend Skerritt and Mottley. However he says he does not know whether Mottley talk to Skerritt first about Ross coming to Barbados
The man is such a dunderhead.

ONE DAY SIR I WILL TELL MORE
I HAVE PUT SOME ON THE THREAD ON OFFSHORE SCHOOLS IN MEDICAL CORNER

I HAD SOME NICE TIMES WITH THE STUDENTS AND SOME STAFF MEMBERS, AND THE BELIEVERS IN THE CHURCHES WHERE I FELLOWSHIPPED……..BUT THE WAY THAT THE OWNERS AND LEADERSHIP OF ALL THE SCHOOLS AT WHICH I WORKED LEFT MUCH TO BE DESIRED

I USED TO READ VALUEMD DAILY FROM ITS INCEPTION IN 2003, AND THE FORUM THAT PRECEDED IT. WHEN I COMPARED WHAT I READ WITH WHAT I EXPERIENCED AT THE PLACES, I WENT I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE & THERE have

My information is it is going at Coverly, the Villages!!

I am being told all the empty units are being rented and new ones being built.

    Pass and see!!

Sure looks like something big going on in there.

Chefette at Balls corner seems to have been an inspired decision.

If it turns out that Ross goes to Coverly, that decision was taken months ago, perhaps after Maria and has little to do with Mia … but then again, it might!!

    Always wondered about Coverly!!

    When was it built?

  22. A question was asked earlier about “the Model of these Universities”, why they like to set up business here, and why people will come to them.

De ole man admits to all of you that i ent too bright

In fact Tron already tell wunna dat de ole man does wrap up be head in Aluminum (not even Bush Tea Leaves)

And Lorenzo of Enuff call me a conspiracy theorist to boot heheheheheheh

But i is jes a myope.

Here is de reason dat de business model of Ross and these other Offshore Medical Universities and Stools will work in the West Indies, in general, and Barbados, in particular

    https://i.imgur.com/lmJD3El.png

Wunna see the denuded visa in the middle of the Stoopid Cartoon? All dese people from India is trying to get into the USA.

Direct applications are generally very difficult (UNLESS WUNNA IS GENIUSES like some peeple dat de ole man knows and den it is smooth sailing heheheheheheh whu even Bulemia got one of dem Einstein visas)

But the fourth easiest path (after marriage to an American and citizenship by investment) is through a medical rotation with a US hospital after “successfully graduating” from one of these universities and stools.

Andbeleive me if de price is right you cud graduate anything, jes ask WeJonesing!!

Now many of wunna only sees the $26K per year fees but dere is another side of this business that deals with placements and ammmmmmmmm kickbacks.

Looka de ole man going gots to dun talking to wunna bout dese inside things dat only we fellers who does wear Reynolds aluminum and compose conspiracy theories know bout

    heheheheheheh

  23. @Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right August 14, 2018 10:40 PM “All dese people from India is trying to get into the USA.”

    Duhhh!!!

You thought that we thought that these doctor want to go back to India to dress lame foots? When U.S. doctors are doare so highly paid?

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

“The wages for U.S. doctors is his is equal to or greater than $208,000 USD per year or $100.00 USD per hour. Overall employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. The growing and aging population is expected to drive overall growth in the demand for physician services. As the older population grows and rates of chronic illnesses increase, consumers will seek high levels of care that use the latest technologies, diagnostic tests, and therapies. Demand for physicians and surgeons is expected to increase despite factors that can temper growth. New technologies, such as improved information technologies or remote monitoring, are expected to allow physicians to treat more patients in the same amount of time. If adopted, new technologies can reduce the number of physicians who would be needed to complete the same tasks. In addition, physician assistants and nurse practitioners can do many of the routine duties of physicians and may be used to reduce costs at hospitals and doctor’s offices. Demand for physicians’ services is sensitive to changes in healthcare reimbursement policies. Consumers may seek fewer physician services if changes to health coverage result in higher out-of-pocket costs for them. Job prospects are expected to be very good because almost all graduates of domestic medical schools are matched to residencies (their first jobs as physicians) immediately after graduating. Prospects should be especially good for physicians who are willing to practice in rural and low-income areas, because these areas tend to have difficulty attracting physicians. Job prospects also should be good for physicians in specialties dealing with health issues that mainly affect aging baby boomers. For example, physicians specializing in cardiology and radiology will be needed because the risks for heart disease and cancer increase as people age.”

  24. Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right August 14, 2018 10:40 PM

WHEREAS IT IS TRUE THAT MANY USE THIS AS A ROUTE TO GET TO THE USA, IT IS NOT QUITE AS EASY AS YOU SAY PIECE

IN THE EARLY DAYS THE STUDENTS TENDED TO BE MAINLY WHITE AMERICANS AND A FEW CANADIANS-

NOW AFRICANS AND INDIANS COME. BECAUSE THEY ARE RELATIVELY FEW SCHOOLS IN AFRICA AND IT IS EASIER FOR INDIANS TO GET INTO AN OFFSHORE MEDICAL SCHOOL THAN A MORE RIGID BRITISH TYPE SCHOOL

MANY OF THE AFRICANS AND INDIANS RETURN TO THEIR COUNTRIES AND IF THEY CAN PASS THEIR COUNTRY’S REGISTRATION EXAMS THEY PRACTICE MEDICINE THERE –ALSO THE EMIRATES

FOR THOSE WHO GO TO DO ROTATIONS IN THE USA THEY MIGHT GET A TEMPORARY VISA IF THEY PAST USMLE STEP i . THEY HAVE TO PASS USMLE STEP 2 TO GET A RESIDENCY

MANY OFFSHORE STUDENTS DONT GET THE USMLE SCORES TO MATCH IN A RESIDENCY. AND GO INTO OBLIVION, OFTEN WITH HIGH DEBT

IT IS NOW GETTING VERY HARD FOR NON AMERICANS TO BE MATCHED INTO ROTATIONS. AMERICANS ARE PREFERRED IN THE MATCH, WITH AMERICANS WHO GO TO AMERICAN SCHOOLS GETTING FIRST PREFERENCE OVER AMERICANS WHO ATTEND NON AMERICAN SCHOOLS

THOSE NON AMERICANS WHO GET MATCHED GET A TEMPORARY VISA AND HAVE TO RETURN TO THEIR COUNTRIES BEFORE BEING ELIGIBLE FOR READMISSION

  25. @Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right August 14, 2018 10:40 PM “…is through a medical rotation with a US hospital after “successfully graduating” from one of these universities and s[ch]ools. And believe me if de price is right you cud graduate anything.”

They still have to get through the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) though,
    https://www.usmle.org/
which I’ve heard is a fairly tough examination.

  26. But here is an opportunity to “teach to the test” as well as teaching the foreign youngsters medicine, teach them how to pass the USMLE steps 1 and 2.

  27. SIMPLE SIMON

STUDENTS WHO STUDY MEDICINE AT THE THREE UWI MEDICAL SCHOOLS ARE NOT TAUGHT FOR THE USMLE……THEY ARE JUST TAUGHT MEDICINE

HOWEVER, WHEN LAST I CHECKED, FOR UWI STUDENTS WHO TAKE THE USMLE EXAMS THE PASS RATE IS COMPARABLE TO THOSE OF ST GEORGES AND ROSS WHO ARE TAUGHT FOR THE TEST AS YOU CALL IT BY DOING KAPLAN AND OTHER REVIEW PROGRAMS

THE USMLE EXAM PASS RATE FOR MOST OFFSHORE SCHOOLS IS ACTUALLY VERY POOR

WHEN I TOOK THE EXAM – THEN CALLED THE ECFMG EXAM- IN JANUARY 1979. MY COLLEAGUES AND I PASSED IT BEFORE WE ACTUALLY TOOK FINALS AT UWI IN MAY

THERE ARE SEVERAL REVIEW SERIES AVAILABLE FOR EACH OF THE BASIC SCIENCES WITH BOTH MCQ’S AND VIGNETTES

  28. @Georgie Porgie August 14, 2018 11:43 PM “THE USMLE EXAM PASS RATE FOR MOST OFFSHORE SCHOOLS IS ACTUALLY VERY POOR.”

Maybe because some/many? of the students are second tier, that is they were not admitted to medical schools in their own countries, and for some/many? English may be their 2nd language, or their 3rd, or their 8th.

  29. @ Dr. GP and Simple Simon

There is a particular area in the US where notwithstanding the USMLE, there is now a ammmmmm predisposition for these students because Americans are opting out of taking up job openings but because of the endemic need one is seeing nuff non americans.

And commensurately the level of care and continuity of that care is suffering.

But i cant say too much on that cause it would expose a few people who ***

  30. GP hope you listened to the tape recording which sheds light on the operations of Ross University and the regulatory guidlines of The US govt by which Ross must follow in order to be accredited and receive funding for America students
It is interesting that the moderate made mention of Ross being a american medical school located in Dominica
By the way before u start braying listen to the first portion of the tape

  31. This Ross University issue might well turned out to be a scandal which can draw Barbados further into a presumptuous poaching expedition
It is now noteworthy that Ralph Gonsalves has now entered the fray as communication analysis for both govts
This is going to be interesting

  32. David dont gloat aboutPM not having a LEC and was giving accreditation to be a lawyer
Dont gloat because how she got the certification without full transparecy issued during that period still hinges on corruption
If i were u i would let sleeping dogs lie because after a while of taunting the dogs might awake and bit all the gloaters in the arseer
Right now the Ross issue is still making headlines in the Caricom community and people under pressure would spill beans

  33. The people of Dominica are hurting and there will be a lot of blood letting
Take a look at the response to Gonsalves statement by the Dominican people one that keeps Barbados smack into the negative by the people
This story will put a red mark against barbados and cast a dark shadow against barbados interest in the Caricom community for a very long time
If you think what Mia did was alright maybe you do not care about the consequences and the impact which they will have on Barbados

  34. re There are high hopes for health tourism as a growth area in Barbados.
    CONCENTRATED BOVINE EXCREMENT
LOOK CAREFULLY AND SEE WHO IS A MAJOR BENEFICIARY OF THIS “health tourism”
THE SCHOOL IS KEPT AT MS RAM”S “RESORT”
THE LONG STAY TOURISTS STAY AT MS RAM”S “RESORT”
A GOOD QUESTION IS WHO ELSE BENEFITS FROM THIS ARRANGEMENT
CHECK THEIR WEBSITE …….THIS SCHOOL BRINGS IN EVEN ITS COOKS AND SECURITY PEOPLE
HOW MUCH DID MS RAM PAY THE DUMBOCRATS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY? ,

  35. Barbados does not have any power of political influence in the region
Like most of those in the Carribbean region Barbados is in high debt
Lest of all Barbados needs to present and image of bully on the block one which would ostracized and alienate barbados from the rest of the Caricom community

  36. It must take a special effort for Mariposa to maintain such high levels of stupidity…and for so long.

    What is your secret ac?
Do you bathe daily in Graeme Hall Spring…?

  37. Bush Tea go take the pulse of the Dominican peoples opinions on the Ross Barbados issue in any case you might also called them stupid
Or better yet maybe Mia can initiate a monkey survey for Dominicans to tell her where to go

  38. “Right now the Ross issue is still making headlines in the Caricom community and people under pressure would spill beans….”

    Mariposa

Good comment….. especially the part about “spilling beans.”

“Right now” I’m sure all’s not well in George Street…….

……… because after hearing this administration is still uncovering dirty deeds of your colleagues, including how Michael Carrington was paid over $702,000 in legal fees for the BIDC……..and renewing contracts in some instances one year before they expire…..when parliament was dissolved and a few days before the general elections……….

…….. and if you also take into consideration that reports indicate an individual came forward to give information on those dirty……..in addition to the fact Donville is under nuff, buff pressure……….

………uh lot uh wunnuh must be “shitting grits”…….

……..hoping that individual and Donville won’t “spill the beans.”

  39. “Dont gloat because how she got the certification without full transparecy issued during that period still hinges on corruption…..”

Yes, CORRUPTION “aided and abetted” by your AG, Maurice King and the DLP…….to also include Vere Brathwaite…..who admitted there wasn’t anything untoward about the process…….

Yet, you continue to waddle in political stupidity.

  40. David let her purge….Lol

You never miss a beat to show your obnoxious attitude towards any one critical of this govt
A govt who ran on a campagain strategy of transparency but has failed to produce any thing substantive towards transparency relating to taxpayers money
So what if i want to dance to the beat of my own drum here on BU .at least i dont no feel all alone knowing that a majority of the Caricom population is dancing with me
Listen bro this issue started almost a week and a half ago and should b be made clear to you and all blp supporters by now that the Ross Barbados issue is not going to disappear any time soon without barbados place under a microscope
Ralph Gonsalves must have realised the negative consequences for barbados a country whose PM he finds favour hence his need for interaction to quell the noise and hate coming out of Dominica and other Caricom nations towards Barbados

  41. This Ross University issue might well turned out to be a scandal which can draw Barbados further into a presumptuous poaching expedition

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I think ROSS decided to move to Barbados way back in last year!!!

If there was any poaching it went on back then!!

The appearance of Chefette at Balls Corner cannot be coincidence!!

Note, the site services are in but no building …. waiting to see what develops I am guessing.

Chefette has an outlet at the airport and one in Oistins.

What’s intriguing for me is to see how Coverly fits into the scheme of things.

Pretty sure Coverly and the whole prefab houses activity is an exercise in money laundering!!

  42. RE Do you bathe daily in Graeme Hall Spring…?

ACTUALLY Graeme Hall Spring GIVES OFF CLEAR CLEAN WATER
IT IS LOCATED WELL AWAY FROM THE MAIN SWAMP ON HIGHER GROUND CLOSE TO THE END OF THE AMITY LODGE ROAD

JOHN WHEREAS OLD MAN ROSS AND THE FOUNDERS OF ST GEORGES SET OUT TO AND BUILT GOOD SCHOOLS FROMN THE GROUND UP, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT SOME OFF SHORE SCHOOLS ARE LAUNDRIES

  43. David did you get a memo from govt mcguffie asking u to shut Mariposa up
Could it be that knowning BU is read in the Carribbean that my comments can spur anti Mia sentiments in Dominica
Well bro that is too bad because Mariposa blows her own trumpet along without fear of how the tune offends
My time on BU has been riddle with insults so one or two more really does not make a difference
But what makes a difference is speaking out against wrong actions that hurt the poor and vulnerable
Which makes me wonder how in Gods earth does Mia sleep at night knowing that barbados remove 30percent GDP from Dominica weakened economy
Plus goes on another fishing expedition of using taxpayers money in the relocation of Ross to Barbados
Ghee Whizz that is real bitter medicine for any one to swallow

  44. re David did you get a memo from govt mcguffie asking u to shut Mariposa up

MAN EVEN GOD CANT SHUT AC UP
THIS IS WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT WOMEN LIKE AC IN HIS HOLY WORD……murdah

    Proverbs 21:19
    English Standard Version
It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman.

    New American Standard Bible
It is better to live in a desert land Than with a contentious and vexing woman.

    King James Bible
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

    Proverbs 25:24
    International Standard Version
It’s better to live in a corner on the roof than in a house with a contentious woman.

  45. It is worth posting again the announcement posted to RUSM’s website:

“We are pleased to partner with Prime Minister Mia Mottley to establish the RUSM campus. The Barbados government has been a very collaborative partner during a pivotal time in RUSM’s history, and we are confident Barbados will be a positive and productive learning environment for our students, faculty and staff,” said Lisa Wardell, president and CEO of Adtalem. “The decision to relocate RUSM from Dominica was complex and one we approached with great deliberation. After careful consideration of multiple options, including a review of our academic and infrastructure requirements and future plans for RUSM, we believe the move is in the long-term best interest of our RUSM community…Adtalem is very mindful of the people of Dominica and the needs of the community, and is creating a plan in close coordination with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and the government of Dominica that will take these matters into meaningful consideration, including an appropriate transition of our campus property and buildings. Furthermore, Adtalem is committed to providing support to colleagues during the transition.”

  46. Listen all that poppy cock does not remove the damage done
After all Dominica govt would be foolish to belive what comes out of the administrative branch of Ross university
After all arent these the same mcguffies who sat eye ball to eye ball with the Dominica govt and agreed on terms for the medical return to Dominica
This ought to be Dominica response ” bite me once not gonna let you bite me twice.”

  47. “can spur anti Mia sentiments in Dominica…Mariposa blows, real bitter medicine for any one to swallow… Barbados is in high debt…..speaking out against wrong actions that hurt the poor and vulnerable….knowing that a majority of the Caricom population is dancing with me”

Forget the blowing and swallowing, the only goal is ‘spurring anti Mia sentiment’ wherever possible. And the goal posts can be moved to any location. I sincerely hope your Caricom knowledge is better than your local knowledge, as you didn’t seem to have many dancing partners in late May. You are such a supporter of the poor and vulnerable, I think your moniker should morph to Mother Theresa. And since you like FACTS, the only major party leader with an LEC, in Barbados history is FJS, called LOSE EVERY CONSTITUENCY. Btw, is Barbados in high debt? I would never have imagined that given the public expense management of the past decade. I know, it’s all Herbert fault.

  48. John raised a good point……twice…… so far.

Ross University had to be contemplating it’s relocation efforts last year……or probably two years ago……and with the “influx” of medical schools coming into Barbados over the past few years, I won’t be surprised if Ross did not approach Ronald Jones some time prior to the May elections.

Additionally, it isn’t by coincidence that Haloute built a Chefette near Coverlet.

Perhaps Mottley should reveal all information pertaining to this Ross deal…… Mariposa may be in for a big and shocking surprise.

    • @Artax

You could easily have added that Maloney is building more of those prefabs to the highway side of the compound. It would have takes weeks to mobilize this project which probably started from the last government.

  49. are you guys trying to tell ac that there is more in the portar than the pestle?

    well you wont get through
the woman has a sensory aphasia
she is not receiving certain stimuli to her brain

  50. David BU

What is also surprising is that with all the “song and dance” Mariposa is making about this issue, especially as it relates to “bullying tactics, economic aggression, stealing 30% of Dominica’s GDP etc……..

………..there is a “deafening silence” coming from George Street on this issue.

Surely if there was something truly untoward about Ross’ decision to relocate to Barbados…… this would be a perfect opportunity for the DLP to give their opinions.

However, the only DEM keeping noise is Mariposa.

  51. HOW CAN THE DEMS TALK ABOUT THE ADVENT OF ROSS? THESE FOLK BROUGHT IN A BOUT FIVE OTHER MEDITAL STOOLS
AC IS NOT ONLY A DEM SHE IS A DUMBOCRAT

  52. The only thing bold and shocking coming out Mia mouth would be the truth
A truth which she would find hard to tell when all the necessary dots are connected to the Ross Barbados location starting at points of agreement between Ross anDominica govt to remain and at which point did Barbados enter the picture and if and when did Mia tell Skerritt about the Barbados negotiations with Ross

  53. Georgie Porgie

Obviously, Mariposa’s view on this issue is based on political rhetoric and not common sense.

However, if Barbados had professional journalists……..rather than ” news writers and news readers,”…….they would have ventured to Dominica to interview Skerrit and the officials from Ross…….

………so we can have the truth……and prevent people from jumping to stupid conclusions because it serves their political agenda.

  54. Say what wunna like AC has a singular ability to rile up people on this blog. I thought Skerrit’s letter would have put the kibosh on the thread but here it is still going this many comments later. There may not be an Opposition in the House – sorry let me correct the record- there is token Opposition in the H of A but AC like a pit bull ain’t letting go of this or any topic where she can stir up emotions of the apologists for the Gov’t.

  55. @Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right August 15, 2018 12:25 AM “@ Dr. GP and Simple Simon. There is a particular area in the US where notwithstanding the USMLE, there is now a ammmmmm predisposition for these students because Americans are opting out of taking up job openings but because of the endemic need one is seeing nuff non americans.”

As always upper class people tend to get the best picks. So if your daddy and mummy, and grandparents graduated from Harvard Medical School, and you do as well, very likely, you won’t have to wait long for a big pick. So foreign trained doctors, and foreigners who are also foreign trained doctors basically have to take what they can get, at least initially. So these doctors begin in poor areas, areas with lots of poor recent immigrants, areas where poor indigenous people live, areas where poor black people live etc. serve in marginalized communities, prisons, places with high rates of HIV, TB or other infectious diseases. Some of the best will rise to the financial top. Some because of their commitment to serving the poor will spend their lives serving poor people. They won’t become rich, rich, rich, but will still make a decent living.

Had a relative who spent half or her career doing directly observed treatment of people with TB, ncluding recent immigrants, poor people, ex-cons, homeless people, people co-infected with HIV and TB etc.

It is valuable work since it keeps the rest of us in good health.

  56. The Skerritt letter can not heal the disgust the people have for Ross Skerritt(himself) which in the Dominicans mind made Skerritt look like a sell out
Also the disgust they have for Mottley abilty to betrayed their trust in a moment of weakness
Now Mariposa can understand all of the above and it distrub my sensibilities when people get on this blog and try to attack my message based on politics..when all my comments are based on a Judea Christian teaching to love your neighbour as you love yourself
Also do good unto others with the same measure of goodness you want for yourself
However there are those who would rather used a two prong political self serving code to attack rather than a moral persuasion upon which i lay my comments for the Ross barbados issue

  57. JOHN WHEREAS OLD MAN ROSS AND THE FOUNDERS OF ST GEORGES SET OUT TO AND BUILT GOOD SCHOOLS FROMN THE GROUND UP, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT SOME OFF SHORE SCHOOLS ARE LAUNDRIES

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

Ross and others are more than likely reputable so they should tread carefully when entering this nest of vipers that is Barbados!!

Let vipers deal with vipers, that way they will never get their money clean.

  58. 5:29 PM

The Dominicans are ready to send Skerritt packing so much for his peace and brotherly love letter
I hope Mia has a house at Cloverly left for him to rest his weary soul

  59. @Artaxerxes August 15, 2018 3:06 PM “Ross University had to be contemplating it’s relocation efforts last year……or probably two years ago……and with the “influx” of medical schools coming into Barbados over the past few years, I won’t be surprised if Ross did not approach Ronald Jones some time prior to the May elections.”

Did any of this had anything to do with the sudden closure of the Alma Parris School?

    Freeing up space kinda thing?

  60. Not here looking for pat on the back or accolades i speak on this issue because in it lies deception! tampering and the kind of politics that breeds corruption
Here after 1 week and half the govt does not have an ounce of decency to be transparent on the issue of concessions to Ross
Ross medical university while in Dominica availed itself to all kinds of concessions
So one would assume that concessions would be part and parcel of any barbados agreement as a guarantee for Ross to relocatte to Barbados
The question remains speculative with some knoweldge pretaining to tax waivers and security guarantees by barbados for student acesss to Cloverly

  61. De Ole man is of de opinion that these sorts of investments augur well for Barbados.

I again suggest that Prime Minister Mottley uses this opportunity to deepen a partnership with said Caricom Member State that would seek to promote a cross territory NIP (National Indicative Project) which would attract regional Indicative funding

I also will continue to use this specific blog to promote the removal of the Coverley Island that took the Life of Abijah Holder 3 years ago.

Abijah was just 11 years old and i think that his death SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN nor should the isle that killed him be allowed to stand

But this is certainly how “Mia Cares” as she and her Attorney General Teets Marshall uphold the law and allow people to own what is theirs (or some foolishness like that)

    https://i.imgur.com/zdZZZNV.png

  62. “……….Judea Christian teaching to love your neighbour as you love yourself
Also do good unto others with the same measure of goodness you want for yourself…..”

Mariposa….yuh lie……you are one of the individuals who mentioned you do not believe in God or Jesus…….

.,………and I’m sure Georgie Porgie can confirm this…..

And now you’re resorting to quoting Scripture?

Look…….the saying goes that “GOD don’t like ugly,”…….. perhaps you should wrap your head to hide the weave and that mug……👹

    😂😂😂

  63. ARTAX
AC JUST PARROTING A FEW VERSES SHE HEARD SOMEWHERE

THE DUMBOCRATIC LABUR PARTEE (NOW ON THE WAY TO BECOMING DEFUNCT & BURIED) BROUGHT IN 5 BOGUS MEDICAL STOOLS, INCLUDING TRANSFERRING ONE FROM ST MAARTEN……..BUT WE DID NOT HEAR A WORD FROM AC………..NOT ONE SINGLE WORD!

MIA BRING IN ONE ….AND ALL HELL BREK LOOSE BY AC ONLY

DOES AC KNOW THAT MEDICAL SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN MOVING FROM COUNTRY TO COUNTRY FOR YEARS?

E.G ST MATTHEWS TO THE CAYMANS FROM BELIZE 2001
ANOTHER SCHOOL FROM NEVIS TO BELIZE 2002
    ANOTHER FROM ARUBA TO DOMINICA
OTHERS FROM ST LUCIA TO ANTIGUA LAST YEAR
    AND WE CAN GO ON

  64. But Barbados is the first on the list where Ross medical univerdity is to to be relocated acussed of having no moral compass but resort to the politics of taking. from the bootom of the political barrell and poaching from a weak member state

  65. @ GP
ACTUALLY Graeme Hall Spring GIVES OFF CLEAR CLEAN WATER
IT IS LOCATED WELL AWAY FROM THE MAIN SWAMP ON HIGHER GROUND…
    ++++++++++++++++++
    You know that…
    Bushie knows that…
    David (BU) knows everything…
    BUT…
What odds would you take that Mariposa thinks the spring is just north of the sluice gate…?
    LOL
    ha ha ha

  66. David you need to keep mouth you have revealed yourself to be the biggest hypocrite with a disregard for a moral conscience and having a voice reveal it respect human dignity
The latest revealation says that Mottley never said any thing to Skerritt about her negotiating with Ross
Yes Barbados needs a jumpstart to reviving its dire economic problems but taking what little your friends have is called back stabbing

  67. @ Artaxerxes August 15, 2018 3:06 PM

Maybe we have reached a point in this country where the release of information should not be a govt decision; “perhaps as u stated above”. Any citizen that finds it interesting or pertinent should be able to request the information; not having ot wait on a line minister et al. The Freedom or Information Act(FOIA) and the associated FOIA request; should have being the first piece of legislation the BLP put through as opposed of the “integrity legislation”

Furthermore why not make it a part of the constitutional amendments; we already did one in quick-time.; after all its it “Govt. of the people by the people for the people” or something like that? You got 29-1 in the Lower HoP it should be a breeze to make something like this happen i quick-time. Or maybe “watch muh procrastinate on such a measure” lol

  68. This govt has made a tactical decision to reveal only that which is palatable to the masses hence the PR stunts loaded with koolaid that leaves the most gullible in Awe and asking for more
Not me ! What i see in those PR stunts are nothing that govt have adress which are conclusive with factual information that adds transparency to govt decisions making
Hence almost two weeks later the guessing game of how Barbados acquired Ross and concessions granted are left for the people to figure

  69. Here is the epicenter of the Ross barbados story for Ross relocating at 45years in Dominica as told by Ross and MiaMottley
    Hurricane Maria
    Sounds pausible but not palatable
Firstly the negotiation periods for agreements between Ross and the Dominica govts does not give a plausible reason sufficient and enough to conclude that Hurricane Maria was the reason
However what can be concluded isbthat Hurricane Maria is being used as a lie and a cover to protect the integrity of Ross and the Barbados govt

  70. But how does any one hid the fact that the govt of Barbados poached 30% of Dominica GDP under the guise of business adventure
How does one hid the fact that in pursuit of the 30% Mia Mottley considered Skerritt to be a Friend
How does one over look the fact that a portion of the Dominca economy which was taken is tantamount to piracy

    • The BU community knows your head to be hard but the blogmaster will keep trying to debunk your feeble attempts to mislead. The following link extracted from the ECCB website shows a breakdown by gdp contribution for Dominica. What do you see? You have no credibility these days on the blog. In case you are not aware the ECCB is the Central Bank for the Eastern Caribbean which includes Dominica.

      https://www.eccb-centralbank.org/statistics/dashboard-datas/

  71. John August 16, 2018 12:37 PM

    https://barbadostoday.bb/2018/08/14/govts-gamble/

    $138 million in missing taxes!!!

That means somebody got a lot of $$ to launder because the GOB is short!

    **

They say “watch muh” I am watching cuzz i want to see if you gine collect every cent of the 138,000,000 that u say is due the govt.

Please don’t bring no accounting gimmicks that the average man can not understand as proof. “show us the money” cause we “watching yuh”

  72. David are you calling those in charge of the ministry if Finance in Dominca liars
You pasted numbers to debunked that the govt of Dominica are presented false economic numbers to the public to mislead the public on how much GDP barbados govt removed from the Barbados
How could you be even calling me a liar when the 30% were the numbers quoted by Dominiica govt
What boldfaced audacity on your part.

  73. The AC – Mariposa, actually a ” Maripokey”, need the attention and response from BU community to get through a day, and feel alive.

  74. David is it you again

The reason why you bother because you know that an unfair disadvantage was taken of the people of Dominica by Ross and Barbados
The reason why you bother is realising after the fruit was picked it was spolied and rotten to the core and the hands that did the picking were hands of deception

  75. Now you David want to start a tug of war about numbers
In any case if you had a real conscience you would not have ventured( into) trying to play the numbers game
However it is sufficient and safe to say whatever the number it was a valuable assest (enough) for the Dominica govt letting Ross stay for 45 years
So please take your unconscienable and self serving position and head for a bush bathe donkey

  76. http://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/business/commentary-ross-university-and-its-economic-impact-on-dominica/

This is worth a read an analysis of the impact Ross relocation would have on the Dominican economy
The fact being the numbers being high or mid ground does have a severe impact to the Dominican economy

Bear in mind my stance is regulated to the immoral incompetence of a barbados govt who feels no responsibilty for the suffering of Dominica plight in grabbing much needed revenue from one of the biggest islands revenue contributor

  77. How can any one read the above link and not feel a sense of Empathy
    NO!
However David can find it necessary to dig deep down inside his empty soul and start a tug of war about Dominica GDP numbers insinuating that the amount of GDP barbados govt remove was not much
I Would not be surprised if David belive the amount taken should not matter
The link tells what in social and economical contribution Ross contributed to Dominica all now taken away because of “a friend” who thought it best to steal in the disguise of business

  78. On a tangential note of seeming inconsequence

I respectfully suggest that the parents of Abijah Holder pen a letter to Lisa Wardell, President and CEO, Adtalem Global Education explaining the matter of the death of your son at this Coverley Premontory

Seek their kind consideration of this matter and ask them to make representation for the removal IF NOT THE CORRECT ADJUSTMENT OF THIS ISLAND on our highway.

THey have alot of leverage with the Government of Barbados and, given what Mariposa considers their poaching status, they would be able to succeed where Bajan citizens have failed.

In fact it would bode well for this entity to have an official opening with the parents of the late Abijah for the newly designed entrance to the Ross facility

    Maloney, let justice prevail!

If you have children too then you understand what it is to lose a child, ASK BJERKHAM he can tell you

  79. Since Bjerkham, the Norwegian, did not stand trial, we do not know is he lost a child or got rid of a child.

  80. Here is a message making the rounds on social media:

    SKERRIT STEWED IN BAJAN POT.
PM ROOSEVELT SKERRIT has a lot to answer about MARK MALONEY, DOMINICA STRONG and PRECONCO LTD. Skerrit gave Preconco Ltd, owned by his very good Bajan friend Mark Maloney a no-bid contract to build 1400 pre-cast houses in Dominica after Maria. We are now learning that Maloney is also the owner of Dominica Strong and has contracted Trinidadians to run the business in Dominica. Coincidence?
In fact, a few days ago, Dominica Strong fenced the 2.14 acres of land that Skerrit bought from his in-laws at Morne Daniel. More Coincidence?
ROSS UNIVERSITY will be utilizing the Villages at Coverley, Barbados owned by Mark Maloney as housing for students. Extra Coincidence?
A couple of weeks before becoming PM of Barbados, Mia Mottley questioned why so many contracts were being given to Maloney by the previous Bajan government. Because Maloney was a thorn in the flesh of Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party for several years. Now Mottley and Maloney are strange bedfellows to bring ROSS over to Barbados. Extreme Coincidence?
Preconco Ltd can not come to Dominica as scheduled because Mark Maloney has to complete some of the buildings at Coverley to be ready for Ross University to commence formal classes in January 2019. Super Coincidence?
What is the real connection between ROOSEVELT SKERRIT and this very controversial Barbadian businessman, MARK MALONEY? Why are Trinidadians fronting Mark Maloney? Was DOMINICA STRONG given a contract to fence SKERRIT’s land? Or was it Kickback for the boldface, in your face act of nepotism between Skerrit and Mark Maloney? Was SKERRIT aware that ROSS was moving to Barbados and would be utilizing the buildings owned by his friend, MARK MALONEY? How soon will PRECONCO LTD commence construction of pre-cast houses in Dominica? How much deposit was given to Maloney to start these houses?
This is further confirmation that SKERRIT knew that ROSS UNIVERSITY was leaving Dominica and did little or nothing to stop it. We need to find out how much MARK MALONEY paid ROOSEVELT SKERRIT to become selectively DOOTISH during the exit of ROSS? We have to keep asking the tough questions and demand prompt and factual answers from SKERRIT. We are tired of hearing from his operatives. He needs to answer to the Dominican public, ASAP or he will get a dose of his own “Heads Up”.
