Prime Minister Mia Mottley shows off a Kensington Oval ready for T20 World Cup
Chris Rogers (l) Walter Prescod (c) Charles Herbert (r)

The news that approximately 3 million dollars worth of illegal drugs was discovered on a boat owned by Goddards Enterprises – a successful and respected international company domiciled in Barbados – continues to be the talk of the town. A few high profile names are reported to be assisting the police force read Charles Herbert the Chairman of Goddards Enterprises and Chris Rogers a non executive member who were reported to be on the boat when the interdiction was made by Barbados Customs Officers.

Information coming from the police about the progress of investigation has been slow as one would expect when prominent individuals are involved. Then add high profile lawyer Andrew Pilgrim to the mix. The blogmaster joins many expressing an interest in who will be charged and incarcerated for the crime. The tangential story is that there is an intense lobby with the charge in government to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The blogmaster ask commenters to be smart when posting comments. On behalf of the BU household we appeal to all those out there to continue to tip off the authorities so that we can arrest the scourge of drugs, guns and other illegal activity pouring into our little island. Feel free to email BU also with tips by completing the Contact List that will be forwarded confidentially to the blogmaster.

BU’s Featured image is Charles Herbert, Chairman of Goddards (l) and Chris Rogers, non executive board member (r).

If the man is innocent then I hope he recovers his good name.
If he is guilty then I hope he is punished
But we should wait, hope the lawnis followed and see what the outcome is.
Trying to shift the blame on to others does not help in anyway.
    The blame game

  3. @crusoe

so you are saying that the former Govt somehow got a controlled drug to be placed on a GEL owned yacht with Herbert on board so that they could frame him for a march?

  4. seems elementary to me WATSON the man that has the record of drug smuggling and was hired as Captain is solely to be charged and prosecuted ,hope Charles and Chris file suit against police and prosecutor for false imprisonment and illegal charges

  5. silly bastard!!

  6. FUCK OFF BASTARD ! Who you calling bastard!

  7. @ Bastard, I certainly wasn’t addressing WATSON; that is elementary my dear schmuck!

  11. Has Charles Herbert been reporting from bail on time? Does the press think this is a relevant story?

  12. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow (Wednesday) before 10am. Is the Bajan press going to cover his reporting to the nearest police station, or don’t they think this is a story worth reporting?

  13. Has Charles Herbert signed in off bail, and was he on time?

  14. Is the drug smuggling suspect Charles Herbert sticking to the terms of his bail? Is he reporting on time? Why is this not covered by the press?

  15. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow, Wednesday, by 10am. Will the press be there? Do they see this as a matter worthy of reporting? Why is Mr Herbert being allowed to fall below the radar?

  16. Charles Herbert is due to report tomorrow before 10am from bail. Is this event going to be covered by the press, or is it not considered newsworthy?

  17. Is it true that Charles Herbert has applied to the court to change his bail conditions so he could travel? If true, it is very interesting.

  18. I hope Charles Herbert is still complying with the conditions of his bail. Of course, our dynamic press does not think this is important.

  19. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow before 10am. Is this news?

  20. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow before 10am. Is this going to be reported ?

  21. This morning, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw, officials from Goddard Enterprises…….(Quote)

Why is the ministry of education joining Goddard Enterprises in this project, given recent history? Would it not be better to wait until matters have been settled? It is all going to end in tears.

  22. I agree with you for once.
GEL should close all operation in Barbados, send home all the staff, pending the outcome of matters involving two of its Board of Director members.(wonder if this would be viewed as ‘forcing the judicial system’?)
And they should simultaneously find a new trading platform for their shares, and move their HO to a place which has a store of FX, so foreign shareholders have some hope in getting dividends converted to a currency with a wider acceptance than $bds.
This would end in tears, albeit of joy and not sadness.

  23. Northern Observer,
Every journey starts with a single step. Seriously, it is a very weird arrangement. I can see the prime minister’s guiding hands behind this.

  24. Doesn’t the UWI already have several sponsors? I see the sports teams are Sagicor UWI, as you would say, I can see Sir Hilary’s hands behind this. The Clico and Sagicor Centres in UWI buildings. The same GEL has a room, Cave Shepherd a tourism centre, and a multitude of firms have scholarships. So maybe another step, as one moves to another educational level. You tell us daily, Barbados is a failed state, and I will add with minimal free cash flow, so what is the surprise.

  25. Charles Herbert is due to report on bail tomorrow before 10am. Is this a story to be followed up by the press?

  26. Charles Herbert is due to report on bail tomorrow Wednesday before 10am. That is, unless the bail terms have changed. Is this a story for our inquisitive, dynamic press?

  27. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow Wednesday) before 10am, unless his bail conditions have changed. If so, the public want to know in what way and why? If no, will he be reporting to his nearest police station as ordered?

  28. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow, Wednesday, unless his bail conditions have changed. Is this a story worth reporting by our dynamic media? And, if his bail conditions have changed, should that b done in an open court, rather than a judge in chambers? What about the other accused men?

  29. @Hal
    Very good.
You have won the Theo Persistence in Keeping Items on The Burner award

  30. Charles Herbert is due to report from bail tomorrow, Wednesday. Is this worthy of a news story?

Hal, maybe in retirement you could do this work and report weekly for us on the 500+ persons who are out on bail?
It appears Barbados is not alone on this lack of reporting, as when former Minister Innis was released on bail in the USA, I could find no public documentation of his reporting. An opportunity?

It looks like a full time job, as the accused report to a variety of police stations before 10am, from Mon-Fri.

  33. Northern Observer,

The Nation’s (Mr Best) reported Inniss’ committal. It is clear neither the Nation, Barbados Today or the Advocate think this is news. By the way, all remands are not the same: status, degree of the alleged offence, etc all count.
As to keeping readers informed: I am retired and do not intend to work (paid or voluntary) unless something remarkable forces me to.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

Why does Hal keeping this on the burner bother you?

In fact it should be even more of an issue.

    Well done Hal!

  35. @A. Dullard,

Thanks. There is a Bajan cultural condition which you should ignore sometimes.

    @Dullard
It doesn’t bother me….HA’s request is perfectly reasonable….as all those granted Bill must report weekly. Yet, I am unaware of any such reports by the press/media in the past, and more than a few would fall into the “status, degree of the alleged offence, etc”. Have you ever seen a bail reporting confirmation reported by the Bajan media?

  37. Charles Herbert is due in court tomorrow off bail. Will he be committed for trial, or will charges be dropped for lack of evidence?

  38. Is anyone covering the court case with Charles Herbert? What is the outcome?

  39. Has Charles Herbert appeared in court today? Has he been remanded again? Committed for trial? Or case abandoned?

  40. Does anyone know if Charles Herbert appeared in court yesterday and, if so, what was the outcome? Our print media do not report these cases.

  41. Can’t find anything on that, Hal.

  42. CBC reported that he was due in court yesterday. In any case, when he is next due in court is a mater of public record. The clerk of the court should confirm his next appearance.

  43. I know that but I’m sure we will soon find out without all that.

  44. I don’t understand. Court cases must be reported contemporaneously ie at the earliest opportunity. If he appeared yesterday, it is normal to expected it to be reported today.

  45. The matter was put back, bail reduced to 150K for the Black man.

  46. ” Drug accused businessmen Arthur Charles Herbert and Christopher Glenn Rogers will make their third appearance in a Bridgetown court on March 27, 2019, while their co-accused Walter O’Neal Prescod, a sailor, will return on December 4, this year.”

Why different court dates for the 3 accused ?

    From the loop news webpage
“Their case could not be heard then (November 6) however, as reports indicate that the Magistrate scheduled to hear that case is currently on vacation.
