Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

A few years ago Minister Michael Lashley was the starboy of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). He was complimented for expanding the housing stock, exponentially. He ensured Barbadians erased Liz Thompsonโ€™s โ€˜bumblebeeโ€™ prototype from memory. Years later many of the houses built by Lashley with tax dollars are unoccupied or rotted. If we include the Coverley PPP it gets worse. A few years later Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley will be recorded in a political footnote as having presided during a period where the state of Barbados roads deteriorated to a level slightly above a cart road.

Of concern to the blogmaster though are observations arising from the waning LEC debate.

Some are of the view now that the LEC debate is behind us, more important issues will be have the space to fuel discussion. What they fail to acknowledge is that the political principals who waylaid Barbadians with the manufactured issue of Miaโ€™s LEC are also responsible for informing and leading the country on the pressing issues of the day.

In his Sunday Column – The Jeff Cumberbatch Columnโ€“Non โ€“ litigious Resolution of Defamation Lawsuits โ€“ Jeff Cumberbatch shared his view on the LEC matter:

To the best of my knowledge and belief, Ms Mottley has been duly admitted to the local Bars, both Utter and Inner. Unless and until she is removed therefrom or otherwise disbarred by appropriate procedure she remains duly admitted. Omnia praesumuntur rite esse acta [Apologies for the Latin] It means that there is a presumption that acts done through the court are rightly and properly done.

The outcome of the recent court case Mia Mottley vs Barbados Today confirmed that Mia Mottley is qualified to practice law in the Courts of Barbados.

What Barbadians must reflect on is why did the Prime Minster of Barbados- a seasoned lawyer and former Attorney General- not have the knowledge of the law and procedure related the LEC issue. One must assume he did not know because he said nothing.

Although the Attorney General is a legal neophyte and light weight he had the resources of the Solicitor Generalโ€™s office and other state resources to have been equipped to clarify the LEC matter inย  less than 24 hours. Some should recall he promised on the floor of the House of Assembly to investigate the matter. A promise he failed to keep. One must assume he dis not know.

Then there is Hal Gollop, better known to the BU household as a school teacher and musician, who prosecuted the LEC matter recently at a DLP political meeting. What has his failed LEC argument done to injure his reputation as a lawyer? Clearly he was party to a political plot to โ€˜decapitateโ€™ the leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) a few months from a general election. One must assume he misinterpreted the relevant laws and procedures related to the LEC issue.

The challenge Barbadians face is that we have an obsturate political directorate whose members are willing to crash the economy on the altar of political expediency. Why should intelligent Barbadians expect that this government is able to appreciate what rising oil prices will do to the economy? We are a country with a DEBT to GDP ratio of close to 150% and foreign reservesย  cover of 8 weeks. Despite the current state of the economy this inept lot prefers to try to hoodwink Bajans by floating a silly debate anchored to Miaโ€™s qualification to practice law in Barbados.

Imagine if Stuart, Brathwaite and Gollop were able to put heads together to promote a component of transparency legislation promised from day one? Wasn’t Gollop contracted to draft a roadmap to assist with moving Barbados to a Republic? Didn’t Stuart and Brathwaithe promise to examine existing to electoral laws to address what they admitted to irregularities that occurred last general election?

Both government and opposition misused that LEC debate as a weapon to mislead the electorate and for over 2 years, disgraceful, the upside, yardfowls are all in hiding…nothing left to mislead the blog with.

No wonder the supreme court is all but useless, the attorney general and his office are all but useless, Fruendel and his ministers are all but useless.

It does not get any better. .and will only get worse.

I hope you are not expecting us to deal with only one issue at a time. Yes, I must admit that this administration is inept but to deal with that aspect does not mean that LEC(gate) should be placed on the back burner.

After all the noise about Ms Mottleyโ€™s qualifications, I am still at a loss. As far as I am concerned, I am not satisfied one way or the other if Ms Mottley was qualified to be admitted to the Bar when she was admitted.

The incompetence of the Government does not settle the issue of Ms Mottleyโ€™s qualifications. This matter needs to be settled once and for all. If the Dems are correct, Ms Mottley would have committed a fraudulent act to become an attorney-at-law. If they are wrong, they would have seriously defamed Ms Mottleyโ€™s character and would show once again that they are unfit to hold public office.

When the truth is finally told, the inescapable conclusion can only be that either Ms Mottley or her accusers are dishonest and hence unfit to hold public office. The people of this country deserve the truth.

  3. The member for St Michael South and the member for St Philip South should bring the matter of vote buying/selling to the office of the Commissioner of Police for action,I assume both these honourable gentlemen have the evidence which they said they witnessed.Failing which the public is entitled to brand them ‘strangers to the truth’ or just common liars.

The High Courts of Barbados have spoken on more than one occasion on MAM’s acceptance to practise her profession of Attorney at Law.As you know pronouncements of the Justices are final until other compelling evidence is adduced or produced in accordance with the law.

It has gone beyond the issue of Sir Denys admitting her to practice law. That admissions is now being called into question. I am merely asking for clarification that Sir Denys was not deceived. That is essentially what the Dems are saying. The country needs to know who is lying.

Sir Denys spoke and based on what I heard Elliot Mottley QC read on VOB Brasstacks last Monday,Madame Justice Richards spoke and ordered.Cut the crap and continue to do what you do well.Agitate and pontificate on matters affecting disadvantaged workers.Your former buddy in political excursions in St Philip and St Thomas who would have us believe he is afflicted with a paulian epiphany and now seeing the ball like the proverbial breadfruit, has withdrawn and licking his wounds of embarrassment in thunderous silence,a case of ‘honey sight key malee pence’.

I thought the case was withdrawn by both parties agreeing to proceed no further and Justice Richards did not need to make any order…ergo, there was no case.

Adriel the AG, who claimed to be investigating the matter.should put it to rest, once and for all.

  12. The whole LEC debate is a big distraction. Let us focus on MAMยดs ability to turn the tide and her plans for finances and economy. I wonder if there are any substantial plans.

  13. WW&C
Madame Justice accepted the decision of the contending parties to withdraw however it was ordered that their agreement have her seal of approval. The information as provided by Elliot Mottley QC should be available on VOB podcast.

  14. David,

You have raised the crux of the matter. This government has led over repeated downgrades, unemployment is high, the fiscal deficit is being thumped into submission, albeit not fully successfully, which is a concern, by a tax regime that is not sustainable.

The attempt at distraction from the real issues, aka Trump vs Clinton, will continue.

There is no doubt that this current lot do not have the ability nor knowledge to address the situation.

What is worse, as you so aptly described, is that there are putting their eggs into distraction rather than addressing the issues well.

That should enlighten all. Our actions reflect our motives.

Gotya Gabriel….which only means Justice Richards approved the parties agreeing to “settle” approved, but should the “agreement” not hold up, meaning barbadostoday “reneging” on their end ……

the “aggrieved” party can seek relief before the court..again

I am still not convinced any of that drama is real…knowing the players involved and how they take psychotic pleasure in misusing and abusing the supreme court…..a travesty that must stop…if the current chief justice is serious…

…. the dumb shit that lawyers do in that supreme court on a daily basis and get away with it because there is no process to punish them with serious consequences and fines in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and/or jail time is mind boggling.

I am currently watching the outcome of one such vicious attack on the integrity of the court by one of the usual suspect lawyers out of the usual suspect law firms….total disrespect was shown to the court and judge, claimant and opposing lawyers….waiting to see if that shit for brains lawyer is punished for what he did or if I will have to expose it everywhere…..

……punishment in such cases should be unrelenting, swift and brutal…but no, in Barbados they gotta play these sissy games where ya gotta wait for another court date…which could take months, then if the aggrieved lawyer remembers since so much time has passed he/she is likely to forget, then he/she can question the subject/witness who was the target of the perjury to the court so it can get on the record, the same lying lawyer’s own witness, ….and then, and then, and then….none of which makes any damn sense and is counterproductive to positive change.

But I sure as hell will not forget…I will make sure everyone knows all the wicked shit that is allowed in that joke they got for a supreme court….just time.

  16. Downgrades ! Fiscal deficit ! and all other economic concerns that affect the country negatively. The election bell has been rung and Mia rather than hid behind the coattails of her operatives need to state emphatically how she would go about rectifying these economic problems
The voices of her loyal supporters have been loud and strong against govt corrective measures but little or nothing substantial has been said or heard coming out of the mouth of the Opposition leader Mia Mottley in reference to corrective measures for barbados economic woes

  17. MIa should present all her accredited documentation that she received in the UK as to show proof and closed the mouth of her detractors Word of mouth defense by her operatives via media outlets about what she has and received to be a qualified lawyer and rightfully admitted to the bar is not enough to give full credence to her integrity.

  18. @Caswell

Do as Gabrel and others are suggesting, listen to the VoB podcast, it is revealing. All of the documents available were shared in court and Audain and the BT lawyers agreed that the LEC was not the issue. The issue is dead!

I agree with Tron that the issue of the LEC was used a distraction. Nonetheless, it has thrown up enough information that cause me to reconsider my position. At first, like you, Gabriel and others I thought that there was no issue. Now, I am hearing allegations that Ms Mottley was not the holder of a practising certificate in England when she was admitted to the Bar in this country. It is my understanding but I could be wrong that a practising certificate was a prerequisite to being called to the Bar if the holder did not have the LEC.

If the issue of the practising certificate is dispelled, I would be convinced that there is no issue but until such time I still have doubts.

Mind you, I am not saying that she is qualified or not, I am saying that the information in my possession does not convince me one way or the other.

Michael Lashley is the most corrupt politician in the current gov’t. His blatant bribery solicitation is internationally renown. His links to the drug business are overt. The falling out between him and Stinkliar over who got the most stolen money out of BWA building is amusing common knowledge. Gollop was in the middle of it.

Hal Gollop is a mediocre lawyer who has depended on Lodge networks to get anything done for his entire career. By the time he gets to a court room or meeting, the outcome has already been agreed. He is Fumble’s law partner for obvious reasons; Fumble is equally mediocre in everything but decisiveness and leadership, at which he is completely inept. Gollop is acutely aware of gov’t corruption and is complicit; so is Fumble.

The fact that anyone would give any of these three incompetent thieves one minute of attention speaks to us, not them.

What I found bursting my belly funny was that as part of the admission to the English bar a person was compelled to eat 72 dinners, later reduced to 36 with the senior lawyers of the English bar.

I found this to be hilarious.

And I wondered what would have happened if one was bright and diligent, passed all the exams with flying colours. did the pupillage thing with the most eminent English law firm, but what would have happened if the aspiring lawyer like my little johnnie was a very, very picky eater and refused to eat the English dinners.

Would the English bar have refused admittance if a Bajan aspiring lawyer did not like the food, and as is common knowlege English food DOES NOT, repeat DOES NOT have a great reputation.

Could the English bar have refused the aspiring lawyer if you refused to eat tough toast beef, cold mashed potatoes and gummy gravy?

    lollll!!!

This is the sort of serious question I would like Professor Jeff, Caswell, or even Elliott or Mia Mottley, both eminent Queen’s Counsel to apply their serious brains to and to answer for me.

What happened if an aspiring lawyer did not like the English dinners and adamantly refused to eat them?

    At their leisure of course.

Good logical position Boss…. and extremely well argued.
Shiite man….. You are way and ahead of the number three legal mind in Barbados…. and not far behind Jeff either…..

Gabriel is highly compromised whenever the shiite attached to Mia approaches a fan. The facts are, however, that Mia (like her father) is a scam artist who used the Law to bully their way in society.
It is altogether conceivable that this was done during her admission to the Bar – just as she did this shiite deal with Harris of Barbados Today to bully her way OUT of the dilemma.

The fact that Sir Denys signed some shiite – based on ‘papers’ presented to him does NOT in and of itself mean that all is above board- who the Hell was he? …a bushman?

A NORMAL young lady interested in a public career as a transparent politician would have gone and done the damn LEC … like EVERYBODY ELSE at the time – rather than seek shiite privilege using London contacts.

@Vincent Haynes November 9, 2017 at 8:21 AM “a medical system that takes over a year and still counting to deal with a prostate complaint.”

Even while this may be true, it is NOT a government problem. It is NOT a DLP problem. It is NOT a BLP problem.

It is ENTIRELY A MACHO BAJAN MAN problem.

And It will only be solved when Bajan men over the age of 40 are willing to yearly pull their pants down, pull their penises out and present their sorry assess to their doctors for inspection. Then urologists can make money, then urologists will be willing to practice here. Barbados has an extremely high rate of untreated or poorly treated prostate cancer, the 5th highest in the world:
    http://www.wcrf.org/int/cancer-facts-figures/data-specific-cancers/prostate-cancer-statistics

This need not be so, there is enough prostate disease in Barbados that the effective prevention and treatment of can provide ongoing work for a dozen urologists, but nobody can pull a man’s private parts out of his pants without his consent.

    The question is:

Will Bajan men start doing do this for themselves, and stop expecting the government to babysit them??

I just did a quick check through the 2016-2017 Barbados telephone directory and I saw listed there by name 17 OB/GYN’s; 3 urologists and 15 veterinarians. So no wonder men have to wait a year for their prostate complaints to be seen, but a dog with a prostate complaint can probably be seen the same day.

    Why is this so?

Is it perhaps that Bajan men do not present their private parts to their doctors for regular inspection [although they will regularly take their vehicles to the mechanic for inspection] and so Bajan youngsters who may have aspired to be urologists have decided to take their talents elsewhere, into other fields of medicine, or to parts overseas?

One of the urologists Jerry Emptage, is already over 60 years old. What happens when Jerry decides to pack it in? Will the wait become 2 years, 3 years? What happens when God says to Jerry “come my son and take your well deserved rest, this night I I will take you home with me.”

And these are the Bajan men who would lead us?

A bunch of jokers who do not even have the sense to take care of themselves?

No wonder the people can’t wait for Mia to lead them.

THE SUMMONS WAS ISSUED ON THE REQUEST OF THE AG’S LAWYER DUE TO LACK OF CO-OPERATION BY HIS OWN CLIENT, MOF STINKLIAR.

  45. @Bush Tea at 8:20 AM, re your affirmation of Caswell’s logical nous, can you, he or anyone else also affirm how Ms Mottley would NOT be adjudicated as a certified attorney at this juncture in time and thus too post facto to the period of her original enrollment.

The logic misses the very clear point that 1) Jeff’s assertion which I paraphrase as ‘the ruling of the courts stands’ and 2) this lady was the AG of the country.

Does our laws not REQUIRE that the AG be a certified lawyer? Would laws signed by her not be null n void if otherwise.

So as reasoned and logical as one may be, let’s deal with those realities and stop this circuitous debate. This is now like the chicken n egg conniption.

The DLP despite all that has been said in this piece and previously have greatly achieved their objective of casting grave aspertions on MAM judgement… that was always the reason for the debate…creating more fodder to attack her as unfit to lead.

Having opened this Pandora’s box of her youthful days it would not be surprising to hear other ‘new’ indiscretions offered. Politically a master class of attack…practically we’ll have to see what develops.

  46. @ Bernard

I agree with youโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ itโ€™s a dead issue and time to move on.

Like it or not Elliot Mottley read correspondence relative to Miaโ€™s โ€œjourneyโ€ to becoming a lawyer, and it was subsequently SUBSTANTIATED by Vere Brathwaite, who said she was not going to politicize the issue, but she gained admission to the Bar under circumstances similar to that of Mottley.

Let me enlighten you about the factual case of one person who I may add by airing his problem has discovered many more like him.

The person followed all that you said from even before 40, his PSA levels continued to rise but no mass was discovered by internal examination.

So a year ago it was decided for the poor person to to go to the QEH for an internal examination using a camera…..one appointment was rescheduled and he has another one before year end which one hopes will not be cancelled.

My point which seems to have escaped you is that poor people who cannot afford the doctor have no choice but to die….suppose it was discovered that if a procedure was undertaken a year ago the patient would have been able to live without the prostate concern.

  48. @ Angela Skeete

Former DLP candidate, Vere Brathwaite, by her own admission, was admitted to the bar and qualified to practice law in Barbados, under circumstances similar to that of Mottley.

Bearing the above fact in mind, surely you must appreciate there should be some measure of fairness and consistency in your argument against Mottley.

As such, I await you to likewise mention: โ€œAll VERE must do is bring all the dam evidence as a show of good will and good faith to the public,โ€ unless of course your question is only applicable to BEES and not DEMS.

But I will not allow you to distract me with what could now be considered a โ€œdead issue.โ€ What is more important is how the ruling DLP administration could prevent CBC from broadcasting the paid messages of other political partiesโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ. but the Democratic Labour Party is INDEBTED to CBC in the sum of $109,609, for what could be assumed to be providing broadcasting services on CREDIT?

And you refuse to address the moral and political implications of this issue.

CBC falls under the ministry and jurisdiction of the Prime Ministerโ€™s Office. Since Freundel Stuart is PM of Barbados, CBC falls under his jurisdictionโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ.. and ironically, he is also the president of the DLP.

Under these questionable circumstances, how dare you come to this forum to hypocritically associate โ€œan office that requires good character accountability and integrity,โ€ with Freundel Stuart?

โ€œMen who cannot or will not take care of themselves have no business leading us.โ€

Does that also apply to men (and women) who are diabetic and hypertensive primarily as a result of their obesity?

After all, you are a โ€˜simple doctorโ€™ and ought to explain to us how come Barbados is overpopulated with medical doctors but yet its population is plagued with NCDโ€™s while the high-living members of that noble medical profession have perfected the art of being certified drug pushers.

  50. Subject MatterMia Mottley
Vera admission does not vouche for the relevant information that is required of Mottley to show proof.Mia is well known for presenting documentation when it fits her purpose against govt
Strange enough when it comes to presenting documentation that is relevant to her admissionto the bar she hides and chides persons for asking
    Go figure
