The following document was received in the BU inbox which promotes the view that Mara Thompson will NOT  be contesting the St. John seat at the next general election. What is surprising is the suggestion that Stephen Lashley is looking to jump the Christ Church West Central ship?

  1. Stephen Lashley has never impressed anybody but himself that such a switch could yield more dividends than currently is the case.

This letter serves as incontrovertible evidence, if indeed written by Lashley, that the rats are seeking to exit a sinking ship.

We are surprised that such a letter is not properly signed by Lashley and/or supported by Thompson.

Our estimation, as based entirely on the historical arc, has been that at best this DLP regime is unlikely to garner more than three seats, at best.

At worse, the Bajans may over-correct and create a constitutional crisis, no leader of her majesty’s loyal opposition in the next parliament.

Of course, somebody from the BLP will then cross the floor to help the country solve this theoretical problem, LOL

These events will of course have implications for duopoly politics, of course. Maybe an over-correction could act as a weapon to transform the duopoly

  2. LOL
    …probably a fake letter.

In any case, Froon is unlikely to get to that correspondence before Christmas..

Rats abandon ships when sinking. Is this a case of looking for a safer ship? This is not about commitment to the people but all about commitment to self.

  4. A private and confidential letter written on October 17th and posted on BU 4 days later.

I think it was composed By a Loyal Party member.

Only a w w Bajan idiot would write that letter to his political leader.

    De campaign start early.

I see no letterhead, call me old fashioned, but a letter without a letter is suspicious, to me…and there was no mention in the letter that Mara, who should lose that seat anyway, is planning not to run for reelection.

  6. Mara has acquired her villas on other Caribbean islands. And obviously, she has the funds from her husband, the London runaway, to be financially independent.

Why the hell should she stay in an overpriced, collapsing country and entertain local voters who are naive like sheeps and whoreship their ever failing politicians like former plantation owners?

  7. This letter was written by MAM.

It shows the structure & elements of an ” Attorney at Law ” who has no LEC.

As the Godmother of one of Mara’s daughters , MAM , thought it best to pull this prank on Mara.

This is Harassment of the highest order , by MAM !!!!

  8. That’s not the shift that I am thinking about. I’m getting a sense of a new candidate in St Michael South. If this worse ass government is able to retain even six seats, such would speak volumes about Barbadians as a people. As a Barbadian I struggle to determine if I am more ashamed of the obvious ignorance of the people of St John, or the putrid stewardship of Freundel Jerome Stuart. If there’s a God, then Stuart harkens to the saying about pride before the fall and simply rides off into the sunset carrying his ”Set For Life” ticket that we the average Joes call PENSION……. for my country an undisguised blessing.

  9. General Secretary George Pligrim seems to be of the belief that if he speaks to the discord elsewhere if removes the focus from George Street. It does not. The expediency of securing one’s pension has passed. Can the same be said for the motives of the Eager Eleven? Are they only eleven souls of dissent? This is the topic that should engage the attention of George Pilgrim.

What is with addressing each other as ‘Comrade’? I read Walcott of the B’s referring in print to ‘Comrade Bostic’. Various organizations use ‘brother/sister’, I believe the intention is to convey equality, and unity of purpose. Ditto for comrade.

  12. “Comrade” is a phrase amongst communists. Just look at the condition of the local infrastructure and at the local work ethic. Looks and feels like Eastern Europe at the end of the 1980s.

Very soon, the Barbadian welfare state will collapse. Like secondary and tertiary education, it did not help to pull Barbados out of the mess called non-developed countries.

  13. Lashley wants to retain immunity. The people of St. John will vote for a DLP comrade in any case. Like sheeps following the butcher.

  14. Well well

  16. Yes, the rumours are out there that Mara will not run for re-election but its Verla Depieza that will be sent to St. John. Thats the RUMOUR. With regards to the letter, It looks like an letter sent within the body of an email so letterheads or lack of signatures are quite common with emails. It could be true or not true. Who knows.

“Antiguan PM Gaston Browne: Now Is The Time For Regional Leaders To Fight Back
    mmUser-Submitted POSTED ON OCTOBER 19, 2017

Antigua & Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, said that while he and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit opened doors for the Caribbean, more of the region’s leaders need to let their presence be felt among the international community.

In an interview with Antigua Broadcasting Station (ABS) last night, PM Browne chided the lack of support received from regional leaders at the recent UN General Assembly where he and PM Skerrit both made climate change-themed presentations.

“What is important is for other leaders within the Caribbean to join the fight. I know sometimes if you have myself and Skerrit carrying the fight, other leaders may probably become lethargic – maybe [over] some petty jealousies. Now is not the time for that. Now is the time for us to have as many voices as possible going at the international community.”

“We should have a démarche on Washington in particular because they are among the greatest offenders. They have become very insensitive to the needs of other countries. [It] seems as though the only interest that exists on this planet is US interest. We have interest too and we must fight to protect our interests.”

PM Browne charged that he refused to accept that the Caribbean’s small size meant its people must adopt a “benign position in which we just sit back and just take whatever they dish out to us.”
“We must fight, we must push back. What are they going to do to us? Revoke […] the visa to the United States? We have to fight for our people. Not to be rude, but to be factual, and to let them know that we not afraid of their might. What [are] they going to do? [Are] they going to bomb us?”
Since Hurricane Maria devastated Dominica, the government commenced the process of transforming the country into the world’s first climate-resilient nation.

After proposing this plan to the UN General Assembly in Washington DC just days after Maria, Dominica attracted a great deal of attention and the proposal has received much needed support from the international community.
The humanitarian office of the UN, for example, has already launched a US$31 million emergency appeal to address limitations posed due to lack of electricity, impaired communication and infrastructural damage..

In his second address to the nation earlier this week, Skerrit disclosed that negotiations were at an advanced stage, to secure at least EC$350 million in funding.”

“Mara Thompson not in support of gutter politics
Added by Katrina King on October 22, 2017.
    Saved under Local News
    4Save
With talk of gutter politics assuming prominence ahead of general election constitutionally due in the coming months, Member of Parliament (MP) Mara Thompson has urged members of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) not to go that route.

In fact, the wife of the later former Prime Minister David Thompson urged the current leader of the DLP Freundel Stuart to rise above attacks thrown by the opposition Barbados Labour Party (BL) and take the high road during the upcoming election campaign.”

  22. If something like this letter were true it would be an example of how a political party could give a flyweight a chokehold on a future primeministership by virtue of having a relatively safe seat, in circumstances where DLP numbers are likely to be very low, if any at all, after the next elections.

What has Lashley done for even the consideration of mortgaging the future of the country.

This type of inbreeding of political lightweights will only deliver more people of a low caliber like Sandiford, Stuart, Cummins, Mottley etc.

  23. Mara, James Paul, Pilgrim, Justin Robinson–all the same thing.

Did BU miss Dr. Robinson’s continuing efforts to defend this government’s performance through sophistry? Like his downgrades fairy tale, the goodly lecturer is saying “it is not fair to blame financial reasons for the fall in the number of applicants to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill.” At the same time, however, his boss Prof. Barriteau cautions that “students are finding it increasing difficult to pay for higher learning…. and that the cost was spiralling out of the reach of the average student following Government’s decision, back in 2014, to stop paying the tuition fees for Barbadians attending the UWI.

Seems like everybody got something to hide, and is determined to get the DLP re-elected.

He is referring (and apparently rather boastful) that such a person does not have any liens on corruption, meaning that she does not have rights to nor responsibilities for corruption currently.

As to who actually has such rights and responsibilities, we can only guess.

  33. Fake News – BLP propaganda starts

Neval Greenidge, a known and visible supporter of the Barbados Labour Party, takes the liberty of posting on his FB page a fake document purporting to be an email from a “Stephen Lashley” to a “Freundel Stuart”. (Since I sent him a FB message, I’m informed he has taken down the offending publication). The fake email was clearly orchestrated to create the impression that Stephen Lashley is writing to Freundel Stuart in his capacity as President of the DLP expressing his interest in being the party’s candidate for St. John and making out a case why “Stephen Lashley” is imminently qualified to be such a candidate. Of course the picture of the fake email does not show Stephen Lashley’s or Freundel Stuart’s proper email addresses. The same Neval Greenidge also falsely states that four years ago he was told in Chefette Rockley by a Stephen Lashley that Stephen Lashley would never speak to Freundel Stuart again, another diabolic untruth. One can understand why Neval Greenidge would want to spread such fake news. He obviously harbors disaffection for the DLP and seems to be on the campaign trail for BLP Christ Church candidates. Just for the record though, the fake email is indeed fake and never originated from Minister Stephen Lashley who is the sitting Member of Parliament for the constituency of Christ Church West Central. In addition, Neval Greenidge’s convenient recollection of an alleged unsubstantiated conversation with a Stephen Lashley four years ago, was certainly not with the current Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Stephen Lashley. I have never even spoken with this guy. These are clear acts of fraudulent behavior which must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Is this the extent to which BLP operatives will stoop? In this case, someone was obviously at pains to create a false email with potentially damaging political intent. It is clear that as we near the election season, the BLP operatives will be using the fake news weapon quite often, particularly against sitting DLP MPs in the hope of confusing an unsuspecting electorate. So I’m sorry Neval Greenidge and company, but this attempt clearly hasn’t work. If I want to write to Prime Minister Stuart, I’m quite competent to do so myself without any help from you or your minions. So, what next will you or your disciples try? Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has fired his Tourism and Investment Minister Asot Michael.

The development came on the heels of Michael’s arrest by Metropolitan Police in London today.

Prime Minister Browne, who was returning home from Montenegro where he led a government delegation to an international conference on Citizenship by Investment said he received news of Michael’s detention from Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner in London, Karen-Mae Hill.

In a statement, Browne said he was obligated to take the action but admitted that he did not have any details about why Michael was detained by police.

“While I have no firm details of the reasons for Mr Michael’s arrest, the arrest itself is sufficient for me to revoke immediately his appointment as a Cabinet member and to relieve him of all Ministerial portfolios until this matter is resolved.

The Prime Minister declared: “I have repeatedly stated that I expect every member of my government to comply with the highest possible standards required of public office, and while Mr. Michael might establish his innocence in time, the fact that he has been arrested, obliges me to relieve him of all government duties”.

“I undertake to release other information regarding Mr. Michael’s arrest as it is brought to my attention,” Browne said.”

  44. Mara Thompson is quoted in today’s (Monday, October 23, 2017) edition of the Daily Nation as having said “The Opposition has weaponised our politics and continues to cultivate a new level of corrosive politics.”

I was appalled that those comments came from the SAME Mara Thompson who, in March 2017, used PEJORATIVE REMARKS in an obvious attempt at embarrassing certain female members of the Opposition.

Her remarks were made over the appearance of 13-year-old Khaleel Kothdiwala who delivered a speech at the “March of Disgust that “touched the nerves of some DLP ministers.”

Thompson said that the Opposition party was being led “by someone who does not have children”, adding, that “she who sits besides her [meaning Santia Bradshaw] was the same thing”.

It is ironic that Dame Nita Barrow, who DID NOT have children as well, is revered by Mara Thompson and her DLP cohorts.

Interestingly, the DLP operatives and yard-fowls usually rush to criticize the opinions of St. Lucian Dr. Tennyson Joseph while saying rather than commenting on Barbadian politics, he should return to St. Lucia and focus his attention on the developments in that island.

However, the same DLP operatives and yard-fowls rush to defend St. Lucian Mara Thompson when she insults Barbadians. Perhaps they should offer her advice similar to what they have been suggesting to Joseph.

    Sent from my iPad

  48. wunna believe that Lashley never had a convrsation with Neval? How long ago Neval ran against Anthony Wood?

  49. The hypocritical Stephen Lashley asked: “ Is this the extent to which BLP operatives will stoop?”

However, I’m sure Stephen Lashley was quite comfortable when the DLP operatives stooped to “gutter level” and presented on BU, CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION from former Transport Board employee Lisa Marshall’s PERSONAL FILE, to INSINUATE she was a THIEF and she STOLE money from TB………………..

…………….. especially under circumstances where they DID NOT present any evidence to substantiate their accusations.

Stephen Lashley did not take into consideration Lisa’s emotions or the implications the “fake news” of smearing her character would have on her ability to find employment.

And this was the level the DLP and its operatives RESORTED to, because the retrenched former employees, including Lisa, publicly vented their frustration about the continual and unexplained delay in receiving severance payment from TB that was legally due to them.

But Mara Thompson perfectly described the Lisa Marshall incident, which was perpetrated by the DLP’s pseudonym “Douglas Leopold Phillips,” as follows:

“What is new is the ability for people to hide under the cloak of social media and type slurs on the character of people they do not even know.” [Page 5: Daily Nation, October 23, 2017]

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Or what about DLP General Secretary George Pilgrim calling Brass Tacks the day after the “March of Disgust” on March 12, 2017, to imply Barbadians were paid to march:

“Based on my knowledge, people were offered money to come and march.”

“The fact that people were willing to turn up to the march and receive a gratuity for just turning up speaks [volumes] of what Barbadians should fear going into the next election.”

“The amount of people that were called yesterday for the march, there had to be a call centre in place…..”

When Pilgrim was PRESSED to SUBSTANTIATE the claim, he responded: “THE SUPERMARKETS WERE BURSTING ON FRIDAY.”

George Pilgrim was essentially implying Barbadians are “licorish” people.

The DLP “can give, but duh can’t take.”

Politicians from BOTH political parties use the “immunity” parliament affords them, to insult or spread “diabolic untruths” about ordinary Barbadians.

However, when the “favour” is returned, they are quick to say (according to Stephen Lashley):

“These are clear acts of fraudulent behavior which must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.”

  50. David

    What else could be expected.

Neval Greenidge was a policeman well known for beating up young men, suspects, held in his custody. He was known to be a certain kind of lawman, operating on both sides.

We’ve had a large number of slave catchers like him.

But Barbados still made him a relatively successful financial advisor, first with BA then Clico.

We seem to recall that he was with the foreign service in Canada or expected to be, we seem to recall, under this DLP government.

And he may also be rewarded with some other public position after the coming elections.

When people so lacking in morals are involved, what else could be expected.

The culture has to lay claim to the likes of Greenidge. For it produces them in bountiful numbers. And we can talk till the cows come home, nothing can change the character of these people, except that antiquarian device gets flight.
