โ€œIn short, his wits being quite gone, he hit upon the strangest notion that every madman in this world hit upon, and that was that he fancied it was right and requisite, as well for the support of his own honour as for the service of his country, that he should make a knight-errant of himself, roaming the world over in full armour and on horseback in quest of adventures, and putting in practice himself all that he had read of as being the usual practices of knights-errant; righting every kind of wrong, and exposing himself to peril and danger from which, in the issue, he was to reap eternal renown and fame. Already the poor man saw himself crowned by the might of his arm Emperor of Trebizond at least; and so, led away by the intense enjoyment he found in these pleasant fancies, he set himself forthwith to put his scheme into executionโ€ฆโ€ โ€“Don Quixote โ€“ Miguel de Cervantes

As many others, including apparently the majority of the voters in the United States, I do not care much for the politics of the current president of the United States, Mr Donald Trump. Having myself survived exposure to the nightmare scenario of his Electoral College triumph last November, nothing he has done since persuades me that he is not the narcissistic, temperamental misogynist that he projected himself to be during the campaign to citizens of the United States who, albeit, by fortuitous electoral distribution and for their various personal reasons, did not care enough about these flaws and so elected him to the high office of POTUS, as it is so charmingly referred to.

Most of my readers will be familiar with the epithet โ€œquixoticโ€. It describes, according to one source, behaviour that is foolishly impractical especially in the pursuit of ideals and marked by rash, lofty, romantic ideas. The word derives from the character created in 1605 by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in his novel, โ€œThe History of the valorous and wittie (sic) Knight Errant Don Quixote of La Manchaโ€, to give its full title. There has been a number of musical and film adaptations since, including the 1992 โ€œMan of La Manchaโ€, featuring the popular hit, โ€œTo dream the impossible dreamโ€.

Constraints of space do not permit a fuller discussion today of the adventures of the title character, but the epigraph above offers some information as to the anatomy of his pursuits.

The connection that I seek to make between Don Quixote and Mr Trump lies in the erratic, nay, quixotic nature of the behaviour of each of these individuals. For instance, perhaps the best known escapade of Don Quixote is tilting at windmills, an expression that has found its way into the lexicon as a metaphor for inutility and one that is ideally likened to Mr Trumpโ€™s attempts to exclude Mexicans and some Muslims so that America will be โ€œgreatโ€ again, whatever that coded expression might mean.

โ€œAt this point they came in sight of thirty or forty windmills that there are on a plain, and as soon as Don Quixote saw them he said to his squire, “Fortune is arranging matters for us better than we could have shaped our desires ourselves, for look there, friend Sancho Panza, where thirty or more monstrous giants present themselves, all of whom I mean to engage in battle and slay, and with whose spoils we shall begin to make our fortunes; for this is righteous warfare, and it is God’s good service to sweep so evil a breed from off the face of the earth.”

“What giants?” said Sancho Panza.

“Those thou seest there,” answered his master, “with the long arms, and some have them nearly two leagues long.”

“Look, your worship,” said Sancho; “what we see there are not giants but windmills, and what seem to be their arms are the sails that turned by the wind make the millstone go.”

“It is easy to see,” replied Don Quixote, “that thou art not used to this business of adventures; those are giants; and if thou art afraid, away with thee out of this and betake thyself to prayer while I engage them in fierce and unequal combat.”

The analogy is satisfied even further whether we consider Sancho Panza to be Mr Mike Pence, the Vice-President, Ms Kellyanne Conway with her โ€œalternative factsโ€, or Mr Steve Bannon with his antediluvian views on difference and press freedom; and Mr Trumpโ€™s choice weapons of war not to be the lance and shield but his penchant for executive orders and late-night-to-early-morning tweets.

None of this is to ignore the fact that for some unarticulated reasons perhaps best known to them, there are those who support Mr Trump. I will not hazard a guess as to their reasons, although I am prepared to concede that they are certainly entitled to their opinions.

Nonetheless, his obsession with being perceived as the smartest and the most popular incumbent ever, as well as his seemingly facile ignorance of the basic principles of US constitutionalism that he swore to uphold less than a month ago, together with his propensity to speak in superlatives all mark him out as nothing less thanโ€ฆquixotic.

Indeed, Mr Trumpโ€™s relationship with matters legal so far has been less than auspicious. First, he chose to dismiss, as was his prerogative, the substantive Attorney General for demurring to a patently discriminatory embargo on certain individuals, even as his proposed replacement awaits Senate confirmation, thus leaving a gap in the governance architecture that would be constitutionally repugnant in most other jurisdictions. Second, he nominates a predictable replacement for Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court; one who, unsurprisingly, comes mouthing the same tired conservative claptrap about the Constitution having a settled meaning, as if time has stood still since the time of Jefferson and the others in the 18th century.

This jurisprudential perception is indeed instructive in the current context, for the original Constitutional text in the US regarded certain individuals, definable by a common characteristic, as being less than whole human beings. Too besides, it is at least passing strange that this soโ€“called โ€œrightโ€ meaning seems always to accord with conservative points of view, while those opinions that endorse such progressive values as the autonomy of women and others to guard their privacy are considered matters of regrettable and unconstitutional judicial activism.

The following piece is apposite:

Almost immediately after, Don Quixote runs into some merchants whom he challenges to admit that his lady, Dulcinea, is the most beautiful damsel in the world. Not sure where the situation is leading, they address him as โ€œSir Knightโ€ but anger him by some facetious comments regarding Dulcineaโ€™s beauty. On hearing these remarks, Don Quixote charges but unfortunately Rocinante slips and our knight ends up beaten by a muleteer. What might be construed as a setback for Don Quixote is easily explained: it was Rocinanteโ€™s fault.ย  But equally important (to him) is the fact that the merchants addressed Don Quixote in chivalric terms.

Unfortunately for trump, the US constitution was not designed to accommodate presidents who are diseased of the mind with delusions of grandeur. ..it was designed to limit their executive powers and deball them with surgical precision if they harbor any thoughts and make any attempts to violate said constitution and the rights of the people in order to install themselves as diktators. …ooops, dictators.

…trumps only option left to have his way going forward is to suspend that damn troublesome constitution. ….

It’s the various amendments to the constitution that’s handcuffed trump and he needs congress to remove that handcuff, but good luck with that….now if he suspends the constitutio, oh what a day that would be.

  4. Today, Jeff provides us with a rambling column, which starts off with an attack on Donald Trump and then morphs into an attack on the philosophies of conservative jurists in the United States.

I want to offer four comments. First, if you think Western-style democracy is the greatest system of political organization ever invented in the history of the world, and that capitalism is the best system of economic organization ever devised, then you should be full of praise for Donald Trump. He has risen to the top of both the capitalist class and the political class — becoming by his own efforts one of the richest American businessmen AND the most powerful politician in his country and.in the world — an unprecedented accomplishment.

Second, there is something utterly ridiculous about a young lawyer in a tiny Caribbean island (hardly anyone knows about) scornfully dismissing The Donald as “quixotic”, delusional, and “ignorant” about constitutional and other legal matters. You do not become a billionaire in New York City, and then president of the United States, by being quixotic or ignorant about the law, or anything else.

Third, the reason Jeff so badly underestimates The Donald is that, like so many “educated” West Indians, Jeff does not really understand America or Americans, although he is supremely confident that he does. There are many levels to most Americans that most West Indians are completely unaware of, because we never learn the secrets of social circles that are completely closed to us.

Trust me, if The Donald were the lucky dummy you seem to think he is, he would have been stripped of his fabulous fortune by the sharks that can be found in every big city in North America.

Finally, Jeff’s denunciation of conservative jurisprudence is hard to take seriously. Several durable legal philosophies that are based either on the notion of “natural” laws of justice, or on originalist and textual interpretations of statutes, have found favor with intellectual giants in the legal profession. It is most presumptuous for a guy at a humble school like UWI to give such short shrift to so many professionals who are so much smarter than he is.

  5. has he done anything he did not say he would do, finally a politician who is doing what he says a breath of fresh air. Look at our liar promising election reform until he was voted in shameful.
Bajans may not like his politics but how does he compare to the people running your country

After reading your contribution, I now know why you are so fond of Donald Trump.

Similarly to him, you are ignorant, arrogant, self opinionated, misogynistic and narcissistic.

    An excellent article!

Next step, bring it into the 20th century by analysing Trump’s similarities with Peter Seller’s characters in “Being there” and “Dr Strangelove”. Those movies speak of a character, who is half mad being elevated to the highest political position by superficial “tweet” like utterings and accomodation by otherwise canny politicians and the ultimate Nuclear madman.

  10. The analogy falls to pieces when you actually look at the facts.

Donald Trump is not singular …. there are well over 60 million others who feel the same way.

    … and it gets worse!!

E pluribus Unum …. what does that mean?

From what I have read it means that from many state governments, one government emerges.

That’s why it is an electoral college that determines who will be the president and not the popular vote.

Each state is recognized to be different.

A glance at the electoral map would show the US to be a sea of red with a few states of blue!!

    http://www.270towin.com/

    That is the reality.

E pluribus Unum does not mean from many peoples one government emerges and Donald Trump is no Don Quixote!!

…ya mean you ain’t work out yet – that this is what Chad has been trying to tell us all along…?

    @ AWTY
    Next step….?
Boss, the only step left for Jeff now, is to fit his analysis into the SPIRITUAL realities of what is going on around us….
Surely he is seeing how perfectly his modern day Don Quixote fits into the scheme of chaos prophesied for our world shortly….
    Is this a coincidence….?
How is it even POSSIBLE …in such an ‘enlightened’ world?

…or are there fundamental underlying spiritual factors which we are all (well most of us) missing in seeking to understand the madness all around…?

  16. Jeff, one of your earlier posts spoke to Bajan “sayings”. One that comes to mind in associating Chad with Trump, the Chump, is, “Birds of a feather fly together”.
ChAD SAYS:”You do not become a billionaire in New York City, and then president of the United States, by being quixotic or ignorant about the law, or anything else.” Trump became a billionaire; ( is he really? He says he is, but is he? No tax returns yet. Could Obama have gotten away with this?) by cheating many many smaller people, declaring bankruptcy six times and not paying for work they did.
Based the video; Trump cannot read!

  19. Jeff
Good opinion piece, but 1984 would also have been an excellent choice; e.g. We have a Ministry of Truth led by the President supported by Sean Spicer and Kelly Anne Conway with โ€œalternative factsโ€. We have the President trying to create a personality cult with frequent references to himself and communications in the form of โ€œtweetsโ€ to his followers; Bannon as โ€œBig Brotherโ€, someone will be sure to write a roman ร  clef about this Presidency.

  20. I| warned the forum about Chad sometime ago, but no one took any notice. His is not just a difference of opinion, but intellectual fraudulence.
Remember his claim that ‘American sociologists….’ when challenged he backed off. Or his suggestion that he always believed the UK Supreme Court would vote 7-4 in favour of parliamentary involvement. What he did not say was that Gina Miller had told CNN that days before.
There must be a psychological explanation.

    SO who ever denied that???

Just like you …who connect with the slave-exploiting Quakers …because you think just like they diid, …and like AC who is a Froon ‘think-alike’…
That does not make what you think right ….or honourable …. or just…or even sane..

All everyone is saying is that Trump is a Jackass of biblical proportions…..and that he even flaunts it. That they are millions of others who see him as their ‘champion’ is beyond question, ….you and Chad ..for example.

What you need to do, is show how Trump’s actions reflect sensible, logical, intelligent thought, by someone holding awesome destructive power…

If you have no sound, logical arguments, why not just relax and try to maintain your well-earned, water-based respectability?

  30. Chad,
So your source was the Daily Telegraph. I rest my case. Unlike you, I know many of the senior people at the Telegraph personally. Many of them came through the Daily Mail. I rest my case.

  31. We disagree with some points.

We would venture that ‘twitting’ and the other instrument are not Trump’s most favoured weapons.

To us they are merely temporary stand-ins for those controlled by codes and more representative of intent.

Or the institutional frameworks – martial law, internment camps, etc. These may start soon in Chicago.

Trump is maybe the worst person on earth, yes!

But even he, in his madness, is willing to indict the USA for centuries of the mass murder of the peoples of the world.

This is something no other president has ventured as an indictment of the system he presided over.

Is this where we are to seek truths that nobody, in officialdom, would speak to?

He is otherwise prepared to mouth some truisms which are almost restricted from public discourses. This is refreshing.

And while there are aspects of his personality which liken him to Quixote we are not convinced that this characterization alone is enough to explain the phenomenon that is Trump or Trumpism.

  32. Hal

Is always boasting about his networks and connections.

You are a very important person, man. That’s VIP.

  33. Americans in general have short attention spans most people do

They want their information condensed and in point form

That is the role of the press except it is falling down and putting its own interpretations.

If I dealt with hundreds of leases I would not read each one ….. I would pay my lawyers to do it!!

…. and if they screwed up ….. fire them and get better ones!!

  34. chad were you not embarrassed as a black person that in the month of the celebration of black History trump knowledge of black history was one of ignorance as he stood in front of a audience of black leaders and most of time he spoke about himself

  35. Trump simply fits in to the general mold, that’s what makes him so appealing to millions.

The American electoral map is a sea of red and that’s all that matters.

The attempts to begrudge the man an honestly earned victory against odds only a madman would take on are palpable.

… and therein lies the problem.

He read the people and he won so that makes him extremely sane …

…. while at the same time a lot of supposedly intelligent people look intensely dumb!!

It is called sour grapes … people desperately want to maintain their relevance even they have been shown to be irrelevant!!!

Give Jack his jacket and get on with life!!

The press and the democrats need to reorganize their way of thinking, get rid of the dead wood and advance.

  36. @David BU, I ask you to allow the following to be carried, it brings an entirely different perspective to the election of Donald Trump, brought by a very serious and anointed man of God, Jonathan Cahn, Messianic Rabbi!

Jonathan Cahn calls out Obama, gives charge to Trump
Messianic rabbi stuns at Inaugural Prayer Breakfast

His last speech at the annual gathering in the nation’s capital was called “the most important speech given in modern American history.”

But the tone could not have been more different when Jonathan Cahn returned to the Inaugural Prayer Breakfast, held just before Donald J. Trump succeeded Barack Obama as commander in chief. The messianic rabbi, whom some have called “America’s Prophet” and the author of sensational bestsellers, including the new devotional “The Book Of Mysteries,” hailed the rise of Trump as an example of God’s will.

Warning the audience his message would be “true” rather than “politically correct,” Cahn reminded them it is God who decides who rules nations and empires.

“We’ve come from every part of this land to stand before the Almighty, before whom kings and kingdoms rise and fall, and nations ascend and descend, Who alone remains the same yesterday, today and forever,” he intoned.

The Bible teacher presented a grim image of the Obama era and spoke of the remarkable victory of the new president as a sign of God’s hand in the affairs of men.

“America stood at the threshold,” he said. “In the face of an election that threatened to establish for ages the edicts of apostasy and the ways of godlessness, and an open war against the people and gospel of God. And then there was Donald Trump. There had never been a candidate like him. Whatever it was that one was never supposed to do while running for president, he did them all.”

Cahn’s remarks were met with applause and laughter. But after all, what else could explain Trump’s unprecedented victory except for God?

“Poll after poll foretold a sure Democratic victory if not a landslide,” Cahn said. “The Democrats prepared for victory. The Republicans prepared for defeat โ€ฆ but then something happened. And nobody was sure what exactly what. The election took a strange turn and whatever everybody was sure couldn’t happen, happened. The media was in shock. The Democrats were in shock. Obama was in shock. The Republicans were in shock. Obama was in shock. And it appears Donald Trump couldn’t believe it happened, either.

“But as it was written in ancient times, it is no less true to this day: ‘As high as the heavens are above the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways. And My thoughts than your thoughts.’ And as we can bear witness today in the city of Washington, on January 20, 2017, with God, nothing, shall be, impossible.”

Cahn framed Trump’s triumph as part of a continuing national drama that has defined Americaโ€™s history, the same struggle between faith and apostasy that shaped the history of Israel. He spoke of Israel and the United States as the only nations in history founded “solely for the glory of God.”

Cahn cited John Winthrop, the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony who prophesied if America followed the ways of God, the Lord would “command a blessing” upon a people who were to be “as a city upon a hill.”

Indeed, explained Cahn, that is precisely what happened.

“Those who came to these shores four centuries ago dedicated the new civilization to God and consecrated it to His will and purposes,” Cahn said. “America was to be a city on a hill, a holy commonwealth. Its first governments were established in the name of Jesus and for the glory of God. Its public school system was founded for the purpose of teaching the Word of God. And as Winthrop had prophesied, God had commanded a blessing. America would become the most blessed, the most powerful and the most prosperous nation the world had ever seen, a praise and glory in the earth.”

Yet as with ancient Israel, America turned away from God, said Cahn, driving “Him out of our culture, out of our government, out of our lives and [banning] Him from our public squares.”

Instead of honoring the God of Israel, Cahn charged, America honored the idols of “carnality and gain, and gods of materialism and licentiousness.”

Take the first step on a journey which will transform your life in 2017. The keys to spiritual knowledge are presented as you embark on an incredible yearlong quest in “The Book of Mysteries,” the latest can’t miss book by messianic rabbi Jonathan Cahn. Available now at the WND Superstore.

The administration of Barack Obama, said Cahn, was the culmination of this process.

“In the past years eight years, America’s spiritual fall and moral descent has both deepened and accelerated,” he said. “The present administration has led this nation to champion the killing of the unborn, and not only within its own borders, but in that of other nations across the world. The present administration has labored to strike down the standards and order ordained by God concerning man and woman and marriage, not only within these borders, but around the world.”

Speaking directly to Obama, in the last hour of his presidency, Cahn asked the outgoing president: “If you overturn the edicts of God, should you be surprised that your own edicts will now be overturned? And if you strike down the precepts of God, will not your own precepts be struck down?”

“Under the [Obama] administration,” Cahn said, “relations between the United States and Israel have been brought to their lowest point in the history of the two nations. And the administration’s parting gift to the Jewish nation was to abandon it at the United Nations, to allow and even foster a resolution declaring that Israel’s ancient holy city Jerusalem, belonged not to Israel, but was, quote, ‘Palestinian territory.’ In this way too, the present administration was waging war against the Word of God.”

Given all this, Cahn suggested it is not surprising God “intervened” to essentially nullify Obama’s entire legacy. Yet this does not mean America is saved. The election is not the answer, Cahn said, but a window in which the answer can come. America is being given a chance.

“In the days of Israel’s apostasy, when the people were warring against His ways, God extended His mercy,” the rabbi explained. “He gave the people time to repent. So too, in the days of our apostasy, God is giving us a time to repent.”

Thus, the Trump administration should not be regarded as an unmitigated triumph. Instead, Cahn showed, it is a charge and a challenge laid before both the nation and the new chief executive. It is for American believers to fulfill what is commanded in 2 Chronicles 7:14 โ€“ to seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways. And it is for Donald Trump, a man who has not lived the life of a believer, to now become a vessel for God.

Cahn gave a charge to the new president.

“As you are lifted up to become the most powerful man on earth, remember always that it is the Almighty who lifts up kings to the throne, and the Almighty who removes them,” Cahn said to Trump. “Your authority comes not from man but from God, the King above all kings. Therefore, submit your life to His authority, and by His authority you shall lead. Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.

“Your life has been a vessel of your will. Now it must become the vessel of His will and His purposes. Walk in His footsteps, seek His righteousness, and follow the leading of His voice.

“Uphold His ways, and you shall be upheld. Keep His Word and you shall be kept. Give honor to His name, above all names, and your name shall be honored. Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. If you do this, and you will arise, and you will shine, and the glory of the Lord will rise upon you.”

Such words may seem strange to those who seek secular explanations for political events. Yet after a year when nearly every political expert, every experienced strategist and every established institution was confounded and discredited, Americans are more open than ever to the simple truth at the heart of America’s destiny. If Americans repent and seek revival, God will answer their prayers, he said.

After all, the rabbi suggested, he already has. Just look at who is in the White House today.

“What was it that all the experts and pollsters missed?” Cahn asked. “The answer was 3,000 years old: ‘If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.’

“For the power of prayer is stronger than kingdoms. And God is faithful. And His promises are true.”

โ€œโ€ฆand Donald Trump is no Don Quixote!!โ€
โ€œI am of a different view, John. Have you watched the YT video?โ€

Your comparison of Donald the Trumpeting Duck ‘to’ the eponymous eccentric character Don Quixote comes across as a form of comic relief for the BU readers.

But John is on the circus ball when he argues that the anthropomorphic duck is no Mickey Mouse president and is the public face and the trumpeting voice of what millions of Americans feel and is indeed the epitome of what can be called the zeitgeist of heartland America as they witness their โ€˜stolen nativeโ€™ country slip away from their white supremacist control.

If you poke fun at this โ€˜quackingโ€™ Don (not Quixote) then you must call into question the sanity and moral well-being of too many Americans.

But why not look on the โ€˜brightโ€™ side of evil and see this boisterous brash American Don as the trumpeting angel of Satan heralding the coming of a messiah to bring about a new World Order much predicted by the likes of Bush Tea (the adopted son of a BBE), GP and Zoe.

The credentials and competence of this political apprentice might be currently under the purview of the forces of darkness but his true mettle to gain promotion to a permanent seat on the council of โ€˜darkโ€™ elders would be put to the test when he is called to follow through with any excessively tough but rash action against Iran and China.

Let him be judged not as raging madman like a pit bull in a political glass house misleadingly analogous to the innocuous warrior in an imaginary battle against silent windmills but by his unbridled gumption to follow in the footsteps of Truman of the buck stop here fame and issue an executive order to reenact the maiden flight of the Christian Enola Gay and in true American evangelical zeal map a flight path to Zoroasterโ€™s birthplace.

“โ€ฆ26 Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are,โ€ฆ (1 Cor. 1: 26-28)

NO Naki-Naki, Trump ain’t no “…angel of Satan…” Just watch and see what Almighty God will do through this man, watch and see!!

  41. I believe it was some kind of miracle for him to win, and if it was, he will be shown the way.

The fact that so many were proven wrong and react as they do show they feel something inexplicable went on and are desperately trying to explain it away.

    Relax and enjoy the show.

The best is yet to come!!

@ Miller, although you are aware that more of them did not support him than those who did?And I am not certainly opposed to the consequential obligation you proffer.

  44. … but the competition for President was not based on the popular vote.

It was based on the state vote and who won the most electoral votes

Count the number of states Trump won and you will see he won more than handsomely.

There is a reason it is not the popular vote that determines the outcome and that reason goes right back to the start.

It has its genesis from even before the declaration of independence by the 13 colonies.

  45. How come Bernard-Henri Levy, that Zionist Frenchman, cannot know the truth of Palestine? Or trades in ‘alternative facts?

Lawson…trump will end up poisoning all yall koolaids, he has a multitude of lawyers who have lawyer friends, confidantes, bed partners and spouses, dont you think he would know what promises cannot be kept, he had no intention of keeping any promise so he promised the impossible…yall are the fools…lol, hahaha….and if per chance he got away with the illegal orders, well he been doing illegals things for years….no biggie.

…trump is nothing without lawyers, take away his lawyers tomorrow and he would be in prison, he can bearly read, comorehend and write without making chikdlike errors, all that greatness and brilliance is in his and the Chadster mind..John dont count, he is a hangeron waiting to see what falls out of trump’s illegal activities that can be successfully applied to Barbados against black people..

Chadster…ya may have everyone on BU fooled, but I am on to your sleaze, I knew you would trip up.

Again, the US is infested with mentally diseased citizens….1/4 billion people and you cannot rule out at least 100 million being mentally unstable or severely mentally ill, it is what it is, maybe there was a full moon that election day to compound the madness…many now have regrets though….trump supporters are the biggest losers.

“DUBAI, United Arab Emirates โ€” An official in U.S. President Donald Trumpโ€™s Cabinet and at least one of his advisers gave paid speeches for an Iranian exile group that killed Americans before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, ran donation scams and saw its members set themselves on fire over the arrest of their leader.

Elaine Chao, confirmed this week as Trumpโ€™s transportation secretary, received $50,000 in 2015 for a five-minute speech to the political wing of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, previously called a “cult-like” terrorist group by the State Department. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also was paid an unknown sum to talk to the group, known as the MEK.”
