“The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity…” –The Second Coming –William Butler Yeats

Frequently, on the Facebook social medium, one will come across an invitation to title a random situation with the name of some film, song or other creative work. Were I invited to do the same with a book title for a global assessment of the year 2016, I would submit that of “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe. This work was part of my exposure to English Literature at secondary school, although I do not now recall the year. I choose this not because of the motif of the plot, although this itself (the conflict between tradition and a new culture) is not inapposite; but because of the seeming correlation and the direction in which the world seemed to be heading for the past twelve months.

More over, the title is likely, given its source, to find favour with those who believe that we are rapidly approaching the end time. The phrase comes from the poem by Yeats, “The Second Coming”, itself an event that has been prophesied to mark that occasion. According to Yeats,

“…Surely some revelation is at hand;

Surely the Second Coming is at hand.

The Second Coming!”

Mankind is, however, if nothing else, an animal of hope. And no matter how inauspicious things may seem, we have managed to transpose the hope wrought by the traditional story of Christmas into an integral aspect of the change of the Gregorian calendar from December 31 of one year into January 1 of the one following.

Hence, despite our apparently intractable adverse economic circumstances, the deplorable state of the roads; our significant loss of standing as state debtors; the damaging and unfortunate categorization of our nation as a tax haven; the uncertain outcomes of Brexit and the election of Donald Trump as President of the US and its implications for a settled world in future, we somehow expect, albeit illegitimately, since we have no reasonable basis for doing so, that 2017 will give rise to a brave new world of peace and prosperity.

…Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned…

Today, as we greet the first few hours of the week, month and year, it is worthwhile to contemplate what the months ahead portend for us personally, nationally and globally.

I had stated earlier that the human being is an animal of hope. He or she is, arguably no less, a political animal, and I use that epithet in its populist sense. For Barbadians, 2017 marks the final full year, constitutionally, of the current governing administration since next year, 2018, will be the fifth anniversary of the last general election in 2013.

And as is constitutionally provided by section 61(3) -“Parliament, unless sooner dissolved, shall continue for five years from the date of its first sitting after any dissolution and shall then stand dissolved”. Of course, under our system of governance, these considerations, as stated, do not preclude the Prime Minister from exercising his awesome power to advise the Governor General to dissolve Parliament at any time prior, thus clearing the way for a general election.

This colloquial “ringing of the bell”, whenever it occurs, is likely to result in a cavalcade of partisan campaigning inclusive of the usual promises and representations by all concerned to ensure electoral triumph. Much as it was in the US in the months leading up to October where, in spite of his alarming manifesto of xenophobia, intolerance and vain boasts of imprisoning his Democrat opponent that resonated with a plurality of states, Mr. Trump now finds it appropriate, thankfully, to recant from those very stances that served so significantly to ensure his success. We should hope for a more sincere electoral courtship in our circumstance whenever that fateful day arrives.

At the global level, we would wish too for a more equitable treatment of those nations with less geopolitical clout by those that are more substantially resourced in that area. The frequent changing of the goalposts as to the definition of a tax haven and a crude reluctance by some to recognize that one salient characteristic of these entities is their affinity for secrecy; a factor far more evident in and synonymous with well known larger jurisdictions- have led to an unwarranted labeling of Barbados as a tax haven with all of the disreputable connotations attached thereto. The struggle to correct this error that might only do further damage to our fragile economy should be national and not merely partisan.

The personal aspect should be particular to each of my readers and I should not be so presumptuous as to suggest how you should lead your lives during the coming year. Nevertheless, as we begin 2017, permit me to wish you good health , prosperity and freedom from distress during the months ahead. In any case or those of us of a certain age, the phenomenon of the apparent shortening of periods of time, whether owed to our slowing metabolisms, heartbeats and breathing rates or to the logarithmic scaling of time -that we perceive a period of time as the proportion of time we have already lived through, it should, hopefully, soon be time to wish you a blessed New Year again!

  1. Jeff, and the BU family,
May health, comfort, and happiness engulf you this coming (actually it has already arrived) year. I look forward to vigorous debate on things National over the coming months, in which I shall certainly add my “idiocy”, and having put on the “whole armour of the Force” will seek to engage one and all.
I would like all BU contributors, especially people like Pacha and Chad, Well Well, and Gabriel, to visit a cinema nearby and view a film called “Hidden Figures”; -it hAS BEGUN AT some CINEMAS IN NORTH AMERICA, or will begin shortly. I read the book and am anxiously waiting to see when it will begin in Barbados. It is based on a true story and should be seen by every BLACK person; every school child-especially those who hate maths, and those with scientific aspirations, but more especially because it show the depths of discrimination in the U.S., but more so because it shows the resilience of black women, and the triumph of the human spirit. If the movie does justice to the book it should be moving and inspiring. Have any of you wondered if Blacks played any part in the Space race? This film show that some BLACk women; known as “human computers” played an integral part in the feat of landing a man on the moon. But their story has never been told before, and it will be a revelation, and an inspiration, to all who are not familiar with this story. It is a triumph of the human spirit.
    Happy New Year.

  2. That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

This poem has a meaning for 2017 as well in those last 4 lines,as we wait with interest to see what unfolds as the legacy of 2016.

  3. Yes we have begin 2017 and the future of oil looks promising for the bulls and the bears but for countries highly dependable on oil especially small developing countries who have refused or shy away from developing /producing sustainable alternative strategies from their high dependency on oil the Future looks dim for their economies as oil continues to sky rocket from very lows levels to marginal highs daily

  4. Best wishes for 2017 Jeff.
Interesting line to start the new year…

Good that you have noted the uncanny collapse of our global society that defies all the corresponding increases in knowledge, technology and communications.

LOL …. just like getting old, …where we know more than ever; have more resources than ever; have more freedom than ever; …. but where our LIFE systems are on an unavoidable, often painful, downward slide to death.

Same thing with mother Earth…. We just happen to be the ones who are here in her old age….
You can be as optimistic and hopeful as your nostalgic senses warrants, …but in your inner intellect, you KNOW how this always ends….

  5. oops my bad correction noted x out the bears, however relevancy and importance of the story should not be flushed as oil is making a strong leap forward in the 2017 economy and its impact on small developing nations would not be good as all products having full dependency would fuel high prices and not going to get better with a trade war which should soon start between USa and china

  6. David based on the opec protections and the robust shale oil production there is quite a bit of speculative energy by financiers et al to allow the AC apparent contradictory prose.

  7. Bushtea;

    You said at 9:15 am

Good that you have noted the uncanny collapse of our global society that defies all the corresponding increases in knowledge, technology and communications.

Somehow, I think you got it wrong this time. I think the uncanny collapse is more a resultant of increases in knowledge, etc., rather than a situation that defies those factors. Cybertechnology which has so many good aspects might well be the primary agent of the apocalyse this time around instead of the fuel for a brave new world. Trump and the Republican leadership along with Putin and Netanyahu and a few other world leaders, who can’t appreciate what is happening under their noses, might well ensure that denouement.

With just 19 days to go before Trump takes over the mantle of leadership of the USA, the portents are all bad for that country as well as much of the rest of the world. Obama is almost surely fighting a losing battle in the late use of his powers of POTUS to try to turn back the clock which fingers are pointing inexorably to chaos and possibly cataclysm.

The news of the last week or so have been almost singularly bad for the US and the world; Putin overriding his foreign affairs advisors to put Trump into an impossible situation with his country, given that Trump is almost certainly a bought pawn of Putin with a temperament that can do or admit no wrong and a finger on the Nuclear football; The British prime minister essentially siding with Netanyahu in the spat over the Israeli settlements vote at the UN; The disclosure that the Russians have hacked A Vermont power plant and the likelihood that it might have the capability to disable such power plants at will; The Republican hierachy, with surprisingly few abstentions, signalling to Trump that they will stand with him on all his likely quixotic decisions; Some Democrats going against Obama’s efforts to delay Trump’s excesses.

    The portents are not good.

  8. Another chance to read Stephen Hawking on political events in 2016: “What matters now, far more than the choices made by these two electorates, is how the elites react. Should we, in turn, reject these votes as outpourings of crude populism that fail to take account of the facts, and attempt to circumvent or circumscribe the choices that they represent? I would argue that this would be a terrible mistake.”

  9. Vincent Haynes, re. your 8:22 am post;

Apocalyptic predictions almost never come true in our Christian age but somehow I have the feeling that there might be something in the one suggested in your poem. It seems that this year is special and that developments in many areas are converging towards something big.

The Trump win against all odds leads the pack of odd, but very important, occurrences. Similarly, the seemingly unexpected stance by Putin to the sanctions placed on Russia for the proven hacking of the US elections, puts Trump squarely in the cross hairs to make a decision that will stamp him as the most Unpatriotic American ever. I suspect Putin knows that Trump cannot make a decision that will result in greater sanctions or other actions against Russia.

What Trump does in this matter will be pivotal in determining the future decline or otherwise of the Great USA.

But Obama is not out of the game yet. He promised other actions against Russia and Putin. If you watched Rachel Maddow about 2 weeks ago you might guess what might be one of the things he might be gearing up to do that might adversely affect Putin’s personal life. In addition there appears to be another Executive Action Obama might take that could tie Trump’s hands in a most important area that correlates closely with the implied sentiments of your poem.

We are perhaps in the most interesting time for mankind on Earth, since the last big meteorite fell on Earth at the end of the last Ice age.

  10. In his customary verbose and repetitive style, Jeff begins the New Year with a familiar rant bemoaning the “xenophobia” of Trumpism, and the “unwarranted” characterization of Barbados as a “tax haven”.

Mr Jeff, there are perhaps 20 million Mexicans illegally living in the United States, sucking the lifeblood out of the country by using its schools, hospitals and roads, by taking jobs and income from American citizens, and by remitting billions of US dollars to Mexico, thereby increasing the monumental trade deficit America incurs with that country each year.

As America sinks deeper into debt, no responsible US politician can allow that situation to continue. Ditto the situation with another bloodsucker, the People’s Republic of China. Trump is being prudent, not xenophobic. If America were not in debt, he would hardly worry about its trade relations with other countries.

As for Barbados, there is nothing unwarranted about describing it as a tax haven. In the financial literature, a tax haven is any jurisdiction with tax laws that can be used by individuals or businesses to avoid the tax claims of another jurisdiction.

That fits Barbados to a T. Every year, vast money flows are recorded as Canadian “investment” in Barbados, even though few Canadian firms carry out their principal revenue-earning operations on this island. For example, Statistics Canada says that in the first decade of this century $390 BILLION of Canadian funds were moved to Barbados, attracted in part by artificially low tax rates.

That makes Barbados a classic tax haven. Government accountants in Canada have also shown that Barbados is the principal off-shore destination for fugitive capital sourced in Canada and have named prominent Canadian lawyers and doctors who are being investigated for their secret bank accounts in Barbados.

So Jeff, cut out the tax haven denialism. Face the facts like an honest man.

  11. Let’s hope 2017 puts and end to the credibility of the real “fake news” purveyors:

Majority Are Still Falling for Fake News

A new poll from YouGov shows that most Americans still believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction at the start of the Iraq war: (bar graph in original shows 53% of Amricans still believe Saddam had WMDs vs 47% who do not).

That’s stunning, given that President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, the CIA, SecDef Rumsfeld, SecState Powell, National Security Advisor Rice, Bush’s chief strategist Rove, “Curveball” (the alias of the name of the unreliable WMD information) and other top officials have all publicly admitted that Iraq had no WMDs.

    Corporate Media Pushed Fake News

The mainstream media has confessed that they pushed the fake WMD claims.

For example, the New York Times pushed fabricated evidence in the run up to the Iraq war. A year later, the newspaper apologized for its inaccurate, one-sided coverage.

The Washington Post also apologized for hyping the non-existent WMD threat.

    CNN’s Howard Kurtz wrote:

Major news organizations aided and abetted the Bush administration’s march to war on what turned out to be faulty premises. All too often, skepticism was checked at the door, and the shaky claims of top officials and unnamed sources were trumpeted as fact.

    And see this:

The Same Idiots Who Pushed the Iraq War Are Now Stirring Up Hysteria About Russia
Posted on December 31, 2016 by WashingtonsBlog

The propaganda about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction was one of the most blatant examples of “fake news” in American history.

Now, many of the same idiots who pushed the Iraq war lies are stirring up hysteria about Russia.

  12. GreenMonkey, re. your 11:09 am post

Of course you are correct that the “WMD in Iraq claim” was fake news. But I think you are comparing apples to oranges in attempting to equate the Bush WMD fake news with the Obama administration late taking of action on the interference of the Russian Cybernauts with the 2016 USA presidential election.

All of the US intelligence agencies collaborated in determining that the Russians hacked the US elections. Vice President,Cheyney, cherry picked information to suggest the presence of WMD’s in Iraq and got Colin Powell to go along with him in that false claim and use that information to invade Iraq.

The Bush intelligence agencies did not categorically agree with the false premise that Iraq had WMD’s but the Obama Intelligence agencies all support the proven claim of Russian hacking of the 2016 US presidential elections.

    There is a difference.

    • @Are-we-there-yet

Obama moved late on the cyber and Israel issues because his administration anticipated a Clinton win. It is that simple.

  13. Best wishes of great days ahead in 2017 to the author, Mr Blogmaster and the BU bloggers.

To the point that “At the global level, we would wish too for a more equitable treatment of those nations …The frequent changing of the goalposts as to the definition of a tax haven and a crude reluctance by some to recognize that one salient characteristic of these entities is their affinity for secrecy; a factor far more evident in and synonymous with well known LARGER (my emphasis) jurisdictions- have led to an unwarranted labeling of Barbados as a tax haven with all of the disreputable connotations attached thereto” linked so perfectly to …

“Mr. Trump now finds it appropriate, thankfully, to recant from those very stances …We should hope for a more sincere electoral courtship in our circumstance whenever that fateful day arrives”…

I do also hope that we can all properly discern the wheat from the chaff; the honest from the charlatan. And how the larger jurisdictions and their leaders play this game of hypocrisy so perfectly.

The author’s essays generates interesting debates weekly and regularly one amusing provocateur who deliberately plays the ‘piped piper’ for the larger jurisdictions.

  14. @ Jeff Cumberbatch

Seems to us that you have, this time, tried to imbue a certain local political ‘landmark’, of sorts, within a literary tradition/s, as if to hide something.

The last time we saw an attempt to do such was at the DLP Headquarters in George Street.

Then it was Don Blackman trying to justify an argument of support for Erskine Sandiford by engaging the works of John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, etc.

It did not bother him that there was philosophical incongruence at work. His listeners were not to know that. Poor yardies!

Is yours an attempt to give a rest bite to this regime?

As to The Home Coming, we have found its treatment by Harold Pinter, another one of your Englishmen, more enlightening.

  15. “The Same Idiots Who Pushed the Iraq War Are Now Stirring Up Hysteria About Russia.” Talk about a loaded headline.. It’s even worse than fake news

I suspect that those “who pushed the Iraq war” may be the political opposite of those who are concerned about the hacking of the elections. Two different sets of ‘idiots’

  16. @are-we-there-yet at 11:51 AM re “….Of course you are correct that the “WMD in Iraq claim” was fake news. But I think you are comparing apples to oranges in attempting to equate the Bush WMD fake news with the Obama administration late taking of action on the interference of the Russian Cybernauts with the 2016 USA presidential election…”

Just as 60+ million people voted for an against Clinton (and Trump) I offer a different perspective to your critique above.

I read GreenMonkey and shook my head…we need to get a handle on what is ‘Fake News’ in the context of the recent elections and that WMD debacle: they are not the same!

To equate the two we need to believe that all the intelligence services around the world were feeding us blatant and deliberate lies about possible Iraq WMD. I do not believe it is that simple. And of course one can also say bad reporting and lack of a more cynical eye.

But these ‘fake news’ are truly that. Abject falsehoods with not even the barest semblance of validity concocted from actual ‘small instances of WMD’ as the Iraq story developed but data created strictly from the imagination of a blogger or even a Presidential candidate with not a scintilla of truth.

So to attempt to match the two is to perpetuate a truly erroneous narrative.

The comparison with WMD and the Russian hacking is simply Trumpian PR which is defined as: blustery made often and loudly which becomes ‘true fake news”.

  17. A healthy and happy New Year to Jeff, “David” and all who come here for the sake of argument, to gain knowledge or engage in some frivolity.

At the start of each year we hope for better and brighter things than the one preceding, we should take a look back at previous Jan.1st, to see what we were hoping for and see how it turned out. Yeats poem came in the wake of WW1 and things were bleak in Europe. It foretold of the end times that is so frequently mentioned by those quoting or interpreting biblical texts, at one time Obama was seen as the “Anti- Christ” who would make his appearance before Christ made his “Second Coming”.

At the time the poem was penned the horrors of the Great War was still evident, the Armenian genocide had not run its course and WW11 was just a generation away. We have survived the Bolshevik Revolution; Chinese Revolution; Indian Partition; conflicts in Indo China- Korea and Vietnam; wars in the Middle East; famine, Genocide and Apartheid in Africa; Terrorism and other conflicts in other outposts in the world too numerous to mention. Surviving the “H’ Bomb demands its own sentence.

2017 will be no different, there will be other occasions that will cause us pain, other events that will cause us to reflect on man’s inhumanity to man but we will persevere and grow from the experiences.

This month will mark the inauguration of a new President of a country that is considered the ne plus ultra in our region (and perhaps the world), word on the street is that he will try to echo JFK in his inaugural speech, he should try to repeat Lincoln’s where he spoke of the “better angels of our nature”

  18. To all fellow BU-ians de ole man prays health – to our transient bodies, wealth and growth – to our oft times misguided and brainwashed minds, and abundance in spiritual life – for the often ignored spirit that dwells in us all.

I know that none of these figure in our lovely automated greetings since we, and i repeat we, pursue augmentation of our individual “wealth”, at the expense of health, certainly not even caring about of our spiritual life nor responsibility to be “our brother’s keeper.”

Certainly ask Senator Dr David Durant and Pastor Lucille Baird and all the other pretend ministers who delivered their empty exhortations during this month’s massive church collections and special blessings meetings.

Wunna dun know that I like Jeff and, as my archetypal BU friend? will say “i likes to lick his boots”
In his inimical style he has gone through all the “climes” that the old man spoke of in my opening salutation above to you all. Of course he used language that you all understood while de ole man rambled.

    “Salve Magister Cumberbatch”

I will not spend any time on his “barb?” at the current administration of Barbados regarding the potholes that abound in BIM, but will say the obvious that such “holes” permeate our society and our economy, in much greater quantity, and with more serious impact that bad suspensions and “shackled out new cars”

Having aggressively prosecuted another blog here with similar title Things Fall Apart de ole man will speak briefly to a small part of this 2017 denouement.

And i will introduce it thusly

Have you ever thought of the connection between “squeezing the balls of a mosquito” and “squeezing the balls of a Lion?” Certainly not!

I shall try to put this statement in context of the seeming impossibility of one with the plain stupidity of the other and de ole man will speak of (i) Donald Trunk sorry Trump and (ii) the New World that he is promoting with his platitudes and constant sucking up to Putin the man who said recently that “russia has no borders”.

“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name…” Revelations

When John, being in the Spirit, saw his vision, imagine what a man seeing a computer, and its code, could (i) comprehend and thereafter (ii) then convey, to the people of his time, so that they could understand what he was saying.

Each key stroke, each transaction on this here computer, and subsequent submission to the secure is crafted in these “numbers” that John saw as this world moves towards the total removal of paper cash to bitcoins and numbers and the mark of this “beast”

But doan leh me stray too far from north.

One or two of you my fellow BU-ians have both noticed, AND COMMENTED ON, the article “Burlington Electric discovered that the laptop had been infected after the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a joint report Thursday that included code believed to have been used by Russian hackers to penetrate the Democratic National Committee…”

War, and the preparation for the war that is coming, will start with these innocuous items as one wisely seeks to disrupt the supply mechanisms of one’s enemy, led by an idiot (Trump the Tweeter) who cannot see past his Apprenticeship aspirations nor his 140 character thought limitations.

So what does (i) the appointment of a man (Trump) with “balls the size of a mosquito” and concomitant brains, 1/10th of the size of the aforestated balls” playing with “the balls of a lion (Putin)”?

It spells even more anii horibilii? yet we are “happy campers” here in BIM, content that Billy Griffith (and part of the AC consortium) are reporting bumper numbers to our tourism arrivals, uncaring that “Things around us Are Falling Apart”

So let us all keep on our merry path with cheerful prattle, content as we are to suffer under the hands of the DLP as they squeeze our “mosquito sized balls” (and fondle the pudendas of our female counterparts) waiting as a BLP opposition assembles its similarly “challenged candidates” of small appendaged men (cant think of a counterpart noun for their women candidates)

While, on the world stage, in the true manifestation of Chinua Achebe’s prophetic words, the world powers delve in practices to disrupt the stability of their perceived enemies (Brexit/UK and now Trump the Hollywood Show host/US)

A Happy 2017 to us all, anonymice, oblivious to a world spiraling to World War III

  19. should not have used “are” after bracketing the “the AC consortium. apologies to the BUGrammar Police

  20. To Mr Pieces in your smart, techno word, can you advise —

Why does an electrical grid system NEED to be on a www node? Or even the electronic voting system at the hypothetical Gun Happy High School in Trust Me Valley, Wisconsin!

Trump like he right…back to the days of courier runs with key data: everything isolated (important things anyhow) and sent to HQ by thumb drive (or encrypted secure link).

Now what happens in transmission or after it gets there is another issue.

That to say was the grid really in danger? Can we perceive that any of those nuclear or other energy sites are so ridiculously vulnerable? Nonsense.

And do we perceive that the US intelligence and military establishment will allow any President to come in and fall into bed with an enemy that would so completely upend their entire purpose of life! Never.

I don’t know yet what all the Trump BS is about other than growing his business empire (and that will backfire on him badly) but it certainly can’t be to create mayhem in the world.

    • To All pun hay have a Happy, Healthy and Wealthy 2017!

Hopefully, Trumpy will not incinerate too many of us. lol lol

      Dont worry, be Happy.

  21. ammmmmm Pedantic ammmmmmmm

Quite recently, you might not have heard this but Hilary Clinton and the DNC had a serious problem with the http://www.node.

Incredibly, there are apps which when installed on your phone CANNOT BE DECRYPTED BY THE MOST ADVANCED STATE SECURITY IN THE WORLD TODAY!!!

Yet, in the presence of Telegram and Callgram-like software people like the multimillionairess Hilary Clinton still resort to www transmissions for what is secure information.

Lest you go down a purposed route of spouting any idiocy early this year let me disavow you of the practice quickly with the following Hauweii Report

“The House Intelligence Committee said that after a yearlong investigation it had come to the conclusion that the Chinese businesses, Huawei Technologies and ZTE Inc., were a national security threat because of their …. ability to easily intercept communications and could allow it to start online attacks on critical infrastructure, like dams and power grids…”

    Let google be your friend!

The point that i am making is that (a) while there are alternatives for supposedly more secure communications it would seem that they are not being relied on, given all evidence that we should and (b) I can sell you a computer which IS NOT ON THE COMPUTER BACKBONE OF THE WWW. but which, based on (i) hardcoded information and ii) alternative transmission mechanisms can export your supposedly secret keystrokes to my low orbit satellite constellation and relay that information to me 5,000 miles away.

I do not want to say that you do need to “get out more often” in this world of moles and trojan horses and sleeper codes and broadcast signal intrusion efforts that do exactly what their names suggest they do.

I suppose that, in your inimitable style, you have taken the stance that in the absence of someone to cross swords with in Canada that you will joust with the ole man but you should use caution though in some of these topics heheheheheheheh

We are “lazy” and, even with super security neither use the old snail mail methods or the messenger. In case you were not watching you should know that i can kidnap a messenger the same way that i can use a stealth bomber with sophisticated signal jamming and detect your ballistic missiles parked on my doorstep a la Cuba Missile Crisis 196? and/or a la Japenese/Russian man made islands at 2016

I do hope you wake up to this festering world at the verge of all out war

    • @PUDRYR

After that interesting intervention to dee word one can only wonder the options the Chinese might have exercised with those laptops that were donated to our MPs.

  22. “…..but more so because it shows the resilience of black women, and the triumph of the human spirit. If the movie does justice to the book it should be moving and inspiring. Alvin…I dont know where you been living, but that information has been out there for decades….maybe you only just came across it, good for you…glad ya read the book…

…..yet when we on BU tell you and ya fellow yardfowls what black bajans are capable of creating and inventing, you try to fight us down to keep your people in the 1950s state of lack of knowledge and stagnant wills, led by a bunch of semiliterate, self-serving, useless politicians and government ministers…..

……is it that you think it’s only North American Blacks and not Caribbean Blacks have that level of intelligence in their genetic memory, or you just like seeing Caribbean Blacks, particularly Bajans as victims of theft, from their labor to their tax dollars….ya cant have it both ways.

  23. ACs as usual have no clue what they talking about…and so early in the year too, a new year, just hours old…steupps.

  24. And Chadster is in the US taking a job away from a US citizen, but it will soon catch up to him…… the nerve of these hypocrites.

  25. @ The Honourable Blogmaster

Any man/government that accepts computers from the Chinese Government AND THEN USES THEM IS A FOOL!

And the fact that the Government of Barbados IS USING THEM confirms my point

SIGINT is a lil pass-time uh de ole man so I got a fairly good unnerstanding of (illegal) signal acquisition.

I give the Pedantic One this article that speaks to trojan horses and that, even in the mighty united states of america this practice IS EN VOGUE!!

“…the existence of a series of “Interceptor” cell towers across the US, there’s been a scramble for information on exactly what these mysterious towers actually are. There are suggestions that the cell towers are the work of criminal gangs, a surveillance tool by the FBI, or even that they belong to foreign spies….”

The Business News article continues “…The first news of the mysterious (interceptor cell) towers came from a press release for a high-end smartphone — they were not uncovered through a research paper or security researcher’s blog as one would normally expect…”

“…If your phone connects to a fake cell tower, whoever operates the device can listen to your calls, intercept your text messages, and send fake text messages to your phone. It’s also possible to monitor and track the physical location of a mobile phone using a hacked cell tower, meaning that so-called “Interceptor” towers can be used to follow people as they travel in the area of the cell tower…”

“…Fake cell phone towers are a big problem in China, where it’s common for scammers to use these devices to trick people into handing over their credit card details…”

The ones i was talking about are in the United States though.

I understand the way that De Pedantic one thinks, whu after all I know he fuh long enough.

    He reasons thusly

1.You have stated “a” (with conviction) but so do most men
2.While “a” might be true, and I KNOW “a” to be true, “is it your truth?”
3.Prove to me that it is your truth

And then, there will be a number of iterative queries put to you for you to confirm if, what he already knows to be a truth, is your truth.

It is no different really to how when some of the BU Order of Testers (I know not who they are) do dat “tag team” pun (i) Danny Gill and den pun (ii) Walter Blackman.

Danny get vex and lef de studio and ent come back

But “the PPK”, well he decide dat he going sit back and watch tings, surface here and there, heheheheheheheh, strategically, like a Taliban insurgent, leh go a few shots, in de air, to say “I Walter still heah” and disappear again.

Dem fellers is get tied up and dem, “dictatorial genes” does show dem up not to like any contrary opinion like, Lil Caesar and Fumbles and Donville

De Word jes is a lil bid more ammmmm sophisticated wid he style uh engagement and ting but I ent got no ego to satisfy or appease. I does state facts and when he come with that psychobabble (heheheheheheheh) I doe jes gi’ he de facts and dem does be sufficient, most uh de time.

Our world is at War no matter how we want to look at it.

Trump is soon to be the Commander in Chief and ammmmmm doan mind whu dPd say dat office got inherent power and to disobey it means dat you either going do a JFK pun Trunk donkey or treason or disobey a direct order or quit like the Mormon singer did

  26. Look de ole man going share a lil “secret” with wunna.

Whatsapp has teamed up with the NSA, FBI and CIA to spy on its users all over the world.

Whatsapp and Facebook now have every bit of data on your phone!!!

Every one of those encrypted data tingys, all your secrets bout how when de night come you does be waering Victoria Secrets, and Victoria does be beating you with leather belts and ting, this is our new reality for the “free” phone calls that got Digical and Lime vex.

Look at your Facebook friend requests!!

Look how de people who you dun block pun you phone profile popping up as a request to be you friend!!

A looka how while you does talk bad to you neighbour bout Pornville and how he, Pornville had naked big bubbie wummens reading de news at he studio in Building # 8 at de BIDC Industrial Estates, how you notice dat when you see Pornville in public, he cutting he eyes at you.

En you ingrunt self notice dat Facebook showing you dat you neighbour is GOOD FREINDS WID PORNVILLE!!

man David you is a man like me and remember how you tell you wife dat you ent talk to that old squeeze for 10 years?

And it ent like she standing up behind you computer and seeing dat de woman is pun you friends list!!

You wife who pun you friend list getting a notification from de same Sandra aka “Tight Pokie” that both she and you have a mutual friend called David de Blogmaster!!

And when you wife gone pun she public profile dere is you last comment, 2 days ago, saying how sexy sandra looking and ting. And en you wondering why she vex wid you and saying dat she cyan trust you no more!!

I does doan mind dPd causing he does only be talking to kill time while tying up people in the process. hahahahahahaha

  27. Any one who doubts that oil would bounce back in 2017 with negative consequences especially on small developing unprepared nations have their heads buried in the sand.
Gas prices keep climbing at a steady pace during the month of december and are not expected to decrease s y time soon
Developing nations would have to grapple with the realities but would be too late in trying to put viable options in place to effectively transfare to much savings for the average consumer

  28. What happen ACs…ya masters told ya they are raising gas prices for the new year, because OPEC did not tell you that.

  29. AC

You are merely trying to inoculate the regime in Bridgetown for blame.

On balance, the indicators though mixed, are not generally pointed in that direction.

Indeed, over supply, with the USA seeking to be net exporter, it is already self-sufficient, will cause tensions between major producers thereby further driving down prices.

But even if oil were free the FJS administration would be no less feckless. LOL

  30. Sargeant at 1:21 pm you posted “at one time Obama was seen as the “Anti- Christ” who would make his appearance before Christ made his “Second Coming”.

Its early days yet. There may still be some little grain of wisdom in that simplistic statement.

  31. @Pieces, re the comment to “kill time”, yes that’s true. But re “tying up people in the process” , no sir, I engage to learn something or share an opinion, never to waste time just to abuse people’s time.

But when it comes to tech I ain’t so foolish as to tussle with your knowledge and that of your grand-son. The question was rhetorical mainly but yet also pertinent to real issues.

I appreciate and understand your remarks “I can sell you a computer which IS NOT ON THE COMPUTER BACKBONE OF THE WWW. but which, based on (i) hardcoded information and ii) alternative transmission mechanisms can export your supposedly secret keystrokes to my low orbit satellite constellation and relay that information to me 5,000 miles away” ….

… But the US is not Bdos and getting PCs from China. Anything in their secure areas cannot and should never be made by a foreign power.

You know as well as I do that when IBM became Lenova that certain avenues were closed for sales even as eyes were opened. I foolish but not totally foolish.

Take also the example the Chinese buying the Waldorf Astoria. Do you think any US President should ever stay there again in the Presidential suite – regardless of using serious counter intelligence measures???? Well I don’t.

Anyhow you also know that what you are suggesting above re hard-coded snooping is also an act of war in some cases. Are you suggesting that for years the US was doing that type of subterfuge!!!

That Hillary email and server brouhaha really kerfuffled me…I expected that she opted to go private for two reasons. To hide her data but more importantly to ensure the highest level security. The fact that it became such an albatross was kerfuffling.

It says something that she was NOT hacked by the Russians (as far as we know). Yet she was vilified as a security risk

Anyhow I would not challenge you on the rudiments and intricacies of tech…things you forget, I still don’t know. But I will certainly disagree on social and general issues surrounding a case related to that tech…like these cyber-attacks.

Anyhow we basically on same page here. I merely pointing out that some important things should be ‘impenetrable’ via www access and if it isn’t then the operational security systems/people are the ones at fault; the hackers are just trying a ting!

Matt 24 watch, 300: Putin of Russia — yes, the former KGB Colonel and now Orthodox President of Russia! — warns his nation and our civilisation about the ongoing collapse of Christendom . . .

    Food for thought.

Video (in Russian, with English sub-titles):

Vox Day (and I most definitely do not approve of him in general — hence no link . . . ) has a transcript:

A further challenge for the national Russian identity is connected to the processes we observe outside of Russia. They include foreign policy, moral, and other aspects. We see that many Euro-Atlantic states have taken the way where they deny or reject their own roots, including their Christian roots which form the basis of Western civilization.

In these countries, the moral basis and any traditional identity are being denied – national, religious, cultural, and even gender identities are being denied or relativised. There, politics treats a family with many children as juridically equal to a homosexual partnership; faith in God is equal to faith in Satan.

The excesses and exaggerations of political correctness in these countries indeed leads to serious consideration for the legitimization of parties that promote the propaganda of paedophilia.

The people in many European states are actually ashamed of their religious affiliations and are indeed frightened to speak about them. Christian holidays and celebrations are abolished or “neutrally” renamed, as if one were ashamed of those Christian holidays. With this method one hides away the deeper moral value of those celebrations.

And these countries try to force this model onto other nations, globally. I am deeply convinced that this is a direct way to the degradation and primitivization of culture. This leads to deeper demographic and moral crisis in the West.

What can be better evidence for the moral crisis of human society in the West than the loss of its reproductive function? And today nearly all “developed” Western countries cannot survive reproductively, not even with the help of migrants.

Without the moral values that are rooted in Christianity and other world religions, without rules and moral values which have formed, and been developed, over millennia, people will inevitably lose their human dignity and become brutes. And we think it is right and natural to defend and preserve these Christian moral values.

One has to respect the right of every minority to self-determination, but at the same time there cannot and must not be any doubt about the rights of the majority.

At the same time as this process plays out at a national level in the West, we observe on an international level the attempts to create a unipolar, unified model of the world, to relativise and remove institutions of international rights and national sovereignty. In such a unipolar, unified world there is no place for sovereign states. Such a world needs merely vassals.

From a historical perspective, such a unipolar world would mean the surrender of one’s own identity and of God-created diversity.

Putin here alludes to Acts 17: ” 26 And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands and territories. 27 This was so that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grasp for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. 28 For in Him we live and move and exist [that is, in Him we actually have our being], as even some of [f]your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’ . . . ” [AMP]

Food for sobering thought as we approach the threshold of another new year, one that portends to be tumultuous, given Brexit, Trump and Syria, not to mention the recent UN Security Council resolution targetting Israel.

Brethren, let us pray, for kings and all in authority, that there may be stabilisation enough that we may live a reasonable life and have a climate in which the good news of the Prince of Peace can be shared without let or hindrance. END

  33. dPd; You asked some very important and insightful questions in your 2:15 pm post.

Here are a few tentative cursory answers from someone who is less knowledgeable than PUDRYR but nevertheless has had some exposure to Computers and Systems analysis since the 1970’s.

re your question Why does an electrical grid system NEED to be on a www node?

I think it is primarily an in-thing and sign of modernity, in essenc,e because it CAN be placed on the www and no utility worth its salt wants to be left out of the loop and every utility is doing it; AND it seems to make life easier and it definitely makes communications easier. etc. etc. But you answered your own question by citing one remedy for obviating the dangers of hacking, Go back to the days of courier runs with key data: everything isolated (important things anyhow) and sent to HQ by thumb drive (or encrypted secure link) Now what happens in transmission or after it gets there is another issue .

You also asked; Was the grid really in danger?

It seems the quoted example of Russian hacking of the Grid in (was it the Crimea?) resulted in serious damage to that grid so there seems to be some likelihood that the Vermont Grid might have been in some danger if one can divorce the fact that such an attack would have been an act of war against the mighty US and the Russians might not have been minded to take such a chance at this time. Seems they were just doing some preliminary research to establish capabilities and methodologies for the real thing if it ever came to that.

You also asked: Can we perceive that any of those nuclear or other energy sites are so ridiculously vulnerable? I agree with your answer Nonsense..

But wait, most of those Nuclear power plants were designed and set up decades ago when there was no such word in anyone’s lexicon as cybersecurity. Perhaps the communication modules and triggers have all been reengineered to today’s standards. But I wouldn’t bet my two mites on it.

You also, I think presciently, stated; And do we perceive that the US intelligence and military establishment will allow any President to come in and fall into bed with an enemy that would so completely upend their entire purpose of life! . You answered yourself Never..

I myself am also sure that US intelligence and the Military would not allow such a thing to happen. That is why I think that Trump might not indeed become the next President even at this late stage, especially since he continues to disparage the work of those agencies, continues to praise Putin and seems set to go even more boldly in that direction by wednesday this week. He looks as if he is going deeper and deeper into a morass of his own making. But then I am likely to have totally misread this situation.

Trump is not acting rationally in this matter and even if he changes his direction re. Putin. His apparent lack of good judgement would already have triggered warning bells. I think we will all have to stay glued to the TVs and Internet for at least the next month or so as this thing is really big.

So dPd I agree with you that; I don’t know yet what all the Trump BS is about, other than growing his business empire (and that will backfire on him badly). But I think that it certainly has a number of elements that have the potential to create mayhem in the world. But then, I’m just an armchair amateur prognosticator who might have lost touch with the real world out there.

I hope I’m wrong in this one.

  34. CBS 60 Minutes surely placed the few islands (Antigua, St.Kitts, St.Lucia, Dominica, Grenada) in the Caribbean with a citizen by investment program in a shady light.

  35. @ Dribbler & AWTY
It is no coincidence that modern technologies are vulnerable to cyber warfare. Everything nowadays tend to be engineered via software rather than being hardwired. This facilitates extremely improved performance. Think of modern vehicles – which are basically complex software systems controlling basic mechanical systems.
Such advanced systems are updated almost continuously, like how your computer, tablet, phone and even watch are routinely updated with new operating systems and communicate continuously with their home base.

It is the same with power systems, aircraft, ships, hospitals, train and bus systems, even home security systems. While we relish the high performance and utility of such systems, they expose our world in ways that we have never seen in the past.

The world wide web has accomplished in technology, what globalisation failed to do in economics, and the next global conflict will feature this battleground in ways that will amaze us all…

Just consider what could result from a virus inserted in various operating systems such as windows, apple, or other major computer systems that are shared across the world….. In a word, CHAOS.

To answer Dribbler’s question, ….who would pass up on having a modern, sophisticated, super-efficient power station that could almost ‘think’ for itself and respond instantly to system conditions…?
…Barbados of course, … we still have an old inefficient station some 40 years old, thanks to the forward thinking of that company, who wanted to protect us from such cyber threats… 🙂

  36. Enjoyed reading your scholarly presentation –

“Mr. Trump now finds it appropriate, thankfully, to recant from those very stances that served so significantly to ensure his success.”

but weren’t the stances taken by Mr Trump the usual par for the course by electoral candidates

and isn’t there direct evidence from our own last general elections re- re stances about university tuition, privatisation, retrenchment etc to debunk ‘

the hope for a more sincere electoral courtship in our circumstance whenever that fateful day arrives.”

and I can assume then that you would not therefore be casting your x on that day for a fateful event

  37. “Is yours an attempt to give a rest bite to this regime”

What a profound observation- even though I enjoyed the presentation which I found scholarly the thought did cross my mind.

  38. Saw this on a blog, it should stir up John tge Quaker…lol, haha.

    Vladimir Ilyitch Puddleduck
    He is 100% correct.
Computers are hacked over and over again.
So why do you think this is nonsense?
I’ll tell you what is nonsense. Being a Quaker. Not the porridge, of course. The religion.”

Exclusive: Jesse Lee Peterson warns of outgoing president ‘behaving like a maniac’
    Published: 15 hours ago

    President Barack Obama
    President Barack Obama
With just three weeks left in his final term as president, Barack Hussein Obama is behaving like a maniac; his desperate actions to salvage his disastrous legacy are unnerving the American people and our closest allies.

Obama is doing all he can to sabotage President-elect Donald Trump to prevent him from successfully undoing the failed socialist policies of the last eight years. But he didn’t start this quest yesterday. This past year Obama covered a lot of ground in his bid to diminish and jeopardize America:

Turning on Israel. In a shameful act of betrayal, Obama broke with decades of U.S. policy, allowing and reportedly encouraging a United Nations resolution condemning Israel for building settlements. The U.N.’s denunciation of the settlement emboldens the pro-terrorist Palestinian leadership and puts into question the future of more than 400,000 Israeli families. I have long said that Barack Obama is no different than his “mentor” Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and his support for the Palestinians proves it. We need to cease funding the U.N. – and get it out of the U.S.!

Manufacturing an international crisis with Russia. This week, Obama slapped Russia with a series of sanctions and diplomatic censures in response to a U.S. intelligence assessment that Moscow used cyber attacks to try to tamper with our election. Obama is looking to blame everyone else but himself for Hillary Clinton’s smackdown at the polls. Obama is angry that the corrupt inner workings of the Democratic Party were exposed. He is playing a dangerous game of chicken. Thankfully, Vladimir Putin has shown himself to be the bigger man, shrugging off Obama’s provocations.

Approving massive land grabs by the federal government. Obama’s designation of 1.35 million acres in Utah as a “national monument” is so extreme, even Democrats in the state oppose it. Sen. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah – an outspoken critic of Donald Trump – is so outraged by it that he is pleading for Trump to reverse it. The Obama administration has said it would indefinitely block drilling in parts of the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, an attempt to stop Americans from capitalizing on their resources in the coming Trump administration.

On Wednesday, Obama will meet with Democrats on Capitol Hill to discuss ways they can try to stop Trump and the Republican Congress from rolling back Obamacare.

With less than three weeks from the inauguration of the new president, God only knows what further destruction Obama will wreak. We need to stay in prayer, be vigilant and give our full support to President-elect Trump as he dismantles Obama’s mess. Thank God for His mercy upon America.

  40. The worse traitors against their people are the black religious zealots who like to rape little boys and girls and have a church filled with concubines, because he is black, does not mean he is not a redneck and who should not be taken seriously, he is blowing with the wind.

  41. Yup!
House niggas were always the very worse kind of traitors…
…the ones who want to grow up to be ‘just like massa’…

    Point to note Chad99999….

  42. Well Well,
    You are an ass!! Pure and simple (with the emphasis on simple);
The information would obviously have been known to a few. The book haS ONLY RECENTLY BEEN WRITTEN, AND THE MOVIE HAS ONLY JUST BEEN RELEASED (LAST DECEMBER) and to be distributed world wide on Jan 6th. It (the story) has only just become available to everyone, so don’t come trying to get on like this has been known to everyone. Blacks, in general are calling for more and more information on the achievements of Blacks, in this modern era. We know of the achievements of blacks, but how much is disseminated all over?
And then you write:”…yet when we on BU tell you and ya fellow yardfowls what black bajans are capable of creating and inventing, you try to fight us down to keep your people in the 1950s state of lack of knowledge and stagnant wills, led by a bunch of semiliterate, self-serving, useless politicians and government ministers…..”
Who is this “we on BU” you talking about? Since over a year ago I spoke about our own Cardinal Warde, and drew attention to his numerous inventions and patents in the field of information Technology, and Liquid Crystal electronics. I spoke about our( Bajans) achievements in all fields, and defended us against your barbs so don’t come telling me no foolishness. I know exactly what I am talking about. But I don’t have to defend myself. You should encourage BU readers who are not as enlightened as you, to see the movie for themselves, and comment on it.
You should know that, by now, I am not affected by your attempts at denigration; like referring to our leaders as “semiliterate,…”. For 2017, try to build up, not break down. But I guess you will never change unless something happens to you, for you to have an epiphany.

  43. Zoe,
Trump needs sabotaging, for he is going to wreck America.
Racists like you need to crawl into holes, never to come back out, and wait for the “rapture”, leaving all of us in peace. Bet you support the Tea Party. Your rCISK SHOWS IN YOUR ANIMOSITY TO PRESIDENT OBAMA, a man who brought class and style to a House that housed everything crass and crude, and which will house a president more crass and crude, and ignorant to the world outside of his toilet, than any other president before him.
But America deserves what it gets, for the first Black President has taught them that they are really ignorant. You fit in nicely.

  44. Trump in his New Years message by Tweet to tge american people call those who did not support him enemies
In the meanwhile Trump refers to Putin as a Friend a man who is a sworn enemy of american people and its democracy
Obama tactics are absolutely correct against Trump grand illusions and selfserving desire of impracticable wishful propaganda and silly ideas which Trump harbours as a surgical cleansing to reset americas foreign policy in favour of one of americas enemies and friendship towards a known KGB chief Putin
Trump by all means necessary should be trampled before setting foot in the White House
Hooray for a President who can see the forest for the trees President Obama

  45. Zoe

Fret not as all your desires will soon come to pass and you will experience the long awaited rapture

Sep 5, 2016 – A GROUP of hardcore Christians has claimed a solar eclipse due to hit the UK and America next year, will bring about an apocalypse.

  46. Note to the ac consortium. In 2017 you should consider the following:
    1) Dropping some of the team members
    2) Bringing on new players
    3) Change the batting to suit the bowlers.
    4) Rotate the bowlers. Artax need a faster bowler
    5) Assign bowlers to suit the wicket. The political spin bowler is on a pitch best suited to fast bowlers.

    Think cricket…

Also, aiso your political leadership to stop doing comedy sketches: posting about potholes as a life saving measure, bathing to show water is not polluted, and posting video on facebook.

Hope you are able to use this advice.

  47. Many of the supporters of Trump falls into this category Racist ..homophobic. Or Xenophobic.
You would find the red necks in the deep South to guilty of all three
The religous right to be outwardly blantant with a repulsive angst against homosexuals
Then there are a large percentage both black and white who are secretly xenophobic and expressed their loyalty to Trump on that basis.
Meanwhile the country have to endure the toture and incessant tweets of an elected tweety bird as President

  48. Pachamama -“Is yours an attempt to give a rest bite to this regime?”

charles skeet -“Is yours an attempt to give a rest bite to this regime”

What on earth is a rest bite? Did you two mean “respite” or did Ms Malaprop advise these comments? And why should you bother if I did provide respite to this regime? Is there not freedom of expression?

Apologies to the blog for my absence yesterday!

  49. Gazer have you ever seen a match when the best batman are bowled out for zero and the last three who are the weakest in the batting line up top the score board and wins the game
Gazer three elements were at play . Guts . determination and perseverance
Ask me how i know been there and done that

  50. @ Jeff Cumberbatch

You are such a colonial boy that even when the English themselves are prepared to evolve their own language, you are reticent.

Our mental intent was to compare the unending problems your DLP has wrought to a crucible where this government is being bitten by the people. In that vision a rest from a biting would then be a rest bit (bite) instead of the short period of rest you have read into our words.

PS rest bite (bit) means – the rest position of the mandible.

Unlike you, we never adhere to the general meanings of english so well ingrained in your brain.

The grand charge of Malapropism may therefore better pertain to yourself, Cumberbatch, than to us.

Freedom of speech shiite. Anybody who still believes that there is some freedom of speech must be out of his mind. Not when every key stroke is monitored. Every communication is recorded. These have been happening for up to 50 years.

That idea is however well located in the fantasy of laws presumed to still have some meaning.

That you will still be so trenchantly supportive of this wicked DLP government must cast a shadow over all your writings. There has never been any serious critique by you of this administration. Even for its worst failings.

This relegates you to the status of sophisticated political hack.

Lastly, we use your english language however we feel like. And we do not need any permission from you or your ilk. In fact, our intention is to break all your rules for the use of english.

And it was a real Cumberbatch who taught us that – The Great John Cumberbatch.

  51. @ Pachamama -humbler men might have attributed it to predictive text. But not you…you state thst you want to break the rules of English. I notice that there was nobreach in your last post!

BTW, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is a Black American!

    @ Zoe

What exactly is your point by posting that article?

Are you suggesting the article has merit because it was written by a “Black American” named Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson?

Did not “Black Americans” VOTE AGAINST Obama in 2008 and 2012?

Did you READ other ARTICLES written by “Black American Reverends” who gave a DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE on the issue and are in AGREEMENT with Obama’s actions?

Perhaps you and the reverend share similar views and you posted his article to BU in an attempt to prove you are justified in your thoughts on the basis that, because Peterson is “Reverend” and a “Black American,” he approached the issue with some measure of objectivity.

You should really stop this “copy and paste” nonsense and EXPRESS your PERSONAL VIEWS on issues.

You and Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson are stupid to believe that GOD had a hand in electing a crooked, unethical bigot like Donald Trump.

  53. As a public service to any BU particpants and readers who might understandably be dealing with deep seated feelings of frustration and stress after documenting or reading on BU about the shortcomings of the current government and the apparent lack of will or ability of this administration to take appropriate corrective action, may I present the following:

Science Discovers A Song that Reduces Anxiety by 65 Percent – Listen

Music therapy is already an accepted alternative therapy for stress and pain management. It has also been shown to help improve immune support system function. Historically, indigenous cultures have used sound to enhance physical and mental well-being, as well as enrich spiritual experiences.

Now, neuroimaging has proven that playing music can substantially reduce anxiety. Scientists in the UK have identified what can be called the most relaxing song on earth song. By playing the song “Weightless” by Manchester trio Marconi Union, these researchers reduced anxiety by 65 percent in individuals who participated in their clinical study. Have a listen: (click link below to go to embedded Youtube audio of the song)

Researchers at Mindlab International, led by clinical psychologist Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, were commissioned to find out which song is the most effective at helping someone to relax. They played songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay, among many others, to 40 participating women.

The researchers discovered that the song “Weightless” resulted in a striking 65 percent reduction in participants’ overall anxiety, and a 35 percent reduction in their usual physiological resting rates.

  54. @ Greenie
Shiite fella …. something must be wrong with Bushie yuh…. that sounds like bare …..
First thing is that those 40 women must have been white….
Second, they must have been women….

    Flawed study.
You have to bring something from Bob Marley …. or Iroy skipper…. to relax a bushman.

  55. When people assail The Donald as a “bigot”, I cringe at their apparent stupidity.

There are plenty of research papers in social psychology, which taken together, strongly indicate that at least two-thirds of white Americans are deeply prejudiced in every bone of their bodies. At least two-thirds.

A reading of the biographies of prominent Americans, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, should make it clear to anyone who is reasonably smart and decently educated that they are all racists. Some nicer about it than others. But ALL are racists.

I currently work for a large (white) corporation. I honestly do not know a single white colleague who is not a racist. Ditto the Asians.

So to all who say The Donald is a bigot, I say, “What else is new? Would Hilary have been different? “

This is the new reality for all racust bigots and their dimwitted followers.

Bigoted racists with deep hatred embedded into their very souls hardly ever change, an assassins bullet help George Wallace see the light, he was a hardcore bigot/racist from the 60s.

Intelligent people do not accept, tolerate, enable appease or condone bigots, you put them in their place and openly shame them….all the time.

Enabling bigots make the worse, some on here believe that the targets and victims of bigots are the ones need to change and that will somehow stop the bigotry, I have been telling Vincent on here it seems for years, that is crap.

We now have the technology to keep bigots and their nasty mentally diseased ideology in the spotlight indefinitely, from generation to generation.

Even tge Trump dummies are afraid of the pubkicity associated with racism and bigotry, now they can no longer use it as a weapon to stay relevant, since doors are slamming in their faces.

And Chadster..dont care how many racist bigots infest the “white” corporations in the US, there are resources available to deal with them inhouse, no one has to accept racism and bigotry of any kind practiced against them and their population unless they are too mentally weak to know any better as in the case with the weak leaders in Barbados. .

  57. “There has never been any serious critique by you of this administration. Even for its worst failings”

I support this view Pacha and I am sure Ms Malaprop would have aswell because she comes across as a who expressed her mind freely person and not one to couch her language as if she was singing for her supper.

The team called his remarks “absolutely reprehensible.”

    By Drew Angerer/Getty Images

We’ve all got to draw the line somewhere. Donald Trump’s White House transition team has blasted former Trump co-chairman Carl Paladino’s disgusting comments about Barack and Michelle Obama after he said that his wish for them in 2017 was for the President to die and for the First Lady to go live with a gorilla. Paladino, currently a Buffalo, NY developer and member of the school board, previously worked for Trump during his New York State election campaign. He ran for governor of New York in 2010.

“Carl’s comments are absolutely reprehensible, and they serve no place in our public discourse,” the transition team said in a statement, per The Washington Post. The Buffalo-based alternative weekly newspaper Artvoice asked 42 locals, including Paladino, what their wishes were for next year. Paladino responded that he wanted Obama to die of mad cow disease and for Michelle to “return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe” to live “in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla.”

New York governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement on Friday calling Paladino’s remarks “racist, ugly, and reprehensible.”

  59. @ Chad99999
The difference between Trump-the-bigot and Clinton-the-bigot, is that Clinton is constrained to some extent by political correctness.

You must have a ‘Clinton-like’ supervisor…who hates your black ass, and really wish that you would “go back to the bush from whence you came” …. but who smiles sweetly whenever you are around – so that you can NEVER say that you were discriminated against….. even if you are the last to be promoted, first to be picked on and are always ‘dumped on’…

Perhaps you see no difference with the ‘Trump-like’ boss who openly expresses his disdain for people like you, and promises to ‘build a wall’ between you and success.

Skippa, you need to consider the likely influence of the latter type boss on the behaviours of the politically correct supervisors…. and understand that your ass is NOW in deep doo doo…

Sometimes you seem to miss the trees for the forest…..

  60. Lol, hahaha. ..Chadster is damaged goods, the racists would shit all over him because he is going along to get along, as vile as racists are, they respect black people who have backbone and balls.

Most of them are afraid of the Obamas cause they know when pushed too far both Michelle and hubby would black out on them.

  61. Pache;
You just love to be indisciplined. You advocate any action that goes against established, and, because it suits your psyche, just deliberately refuse to adhere to established rules, even in your use of language. What is wrong with staying on the correct side of the rules?

  62. David,
When Hilary referred to some Trump supporters as “deplorable” she was pilloried (rhymes nicely). Yet Trump can flippantly refer to those who are not supportive of him as “his enemies”, without a word of condemnation. Is this hypocritical or not?

  63. Bajans are SO stupid; ethnically cleanse Barbados and then what? We pay it later in health bills…

I sent out an email recently:

It was brought to my attention that Windsor misunderstood our lineage and ancestry; claiming Barbados is African, mixed race and European, sorry, it’s Amerindian. To put it frankly, I did martial arts, and they are certain I am Amerindian, although I never mentioned it. I am Sogegih Ichiguanyan, from a meeting family…speaking Bajan as a first language…an Amerindian language, with several dialects. I am pure-blooded, and it’s obvious in my appearance. If we are un-welcomed in England or the United States, that should be made clear upon entry, as I mentioned in a petition. I shy away from vaunting, as I am a Pawmp.puhset.tuh by nature, you see our lineage when I walk.

Stand corrected; Freemason secrets are secret, everyone knows the Caribbean is the sea, Kick’em kicks, and is Caribbean not Catholic or some other Europeans bloodline:

    England is dead:

I have explained grammar and terms for clarification, presented a genealogy and explained the lineage in a way anyone could understand as Bajan Dance, Bajan Proverbs and Healings, Bajan medicine, Bajan Songbook (including Bajan version of the “Psalms”), Christian Bible (Proverbs), Scientology (Thetan, our flag), Sumer and Babylon (Gilgamesh/Marduk/Neburu), Shinto (Nibiru), Baghavad Gita, Eastern Zodiac (meeting family), Quranic verses etc.

    Our Language (some grammar):
    Our Numbers:
    Our Proverbs:

Everybody knows the Caribbean is cosmic; so excuse you, sorry, the Lesser Antilles still reflect the cosmos in every form. I am the full-form hourglass Sogegih Ichiguanyan…Africa can’t produce my hair, and you are aware of that, all the snuff and pehperz, each hair color and all hair strands separated and gathered in ranks (an army). I am from the West Indian Caribbean Lesser Antilles island of Barbados, where everybody is an Amerindian, either a noble Sogegih Ichiguangyan or an Arawak; no contention no dispute. Simply, the white Barbadians are mostly Amerindian, and each darker skinned Barbadian “gaw’in white” somewhere on both sides of their family, although we are descendants of Amerindians of every complexion.

When I read your contributions, I cringe at your apparent stupidity as well.

It harrows me with fear and wonder that a man, who professes to be intelligent, consistently writes shiite.

“Paladino responded that he wanted Obama to die of mad cow disease and for Michelle to “return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe” to live “in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla”…….”

    @ WW&C

Paladino said he meant to send the comments to his friends, but inadvertently send them to a Buffalo weekly paper called the Artvoice, which published them.

Having said that, I guess he was not offering an apology for being a racist; perhaps he apologised for publicizing the fact he is a racist.

Paladino is known to post racists comments and videos showing bestiality.

  66. Bush Tea

is wrong as usual. The racist who is constrained by political correctness is no better for blacks, on average, than the one who is not.

Compare Canada and the United States. Most people who have lived and worked in both countries will tell you Canadians are much nicer, on average, than Americans. In large Canadian corporations, you may have more peace of mind. You see more smiles. People are more polite, etc.

However, Canadian racism is as exclusionary as American racism. In the cities of western Canada, you will typically see blacks with two and three master’s degrees reporting to white bosses who have one bachelor’s degree and no skills besides the ability to speak conversational English and make a PowerPoint presentation.

Even in Toronto, a visit to ten or twelve corporate headquarters will usually show a clear pattern of stratification by race. Level One: white men. Level Two: white women. Level Three: East Asians. Level Four: South Asians. Level Five: Blacks and Aboriginals. Sometimes, these layers correspond to real differences in abilities. Sometimes they do not: The bright black guy will usually find it impossible to be promoted, no matter how obvious his superiority as an individual.

Personally, I prefer to deal with racists who don’t bother to be relentlessly friendly and deceitful. However, the point of this post is to say we should all make fewer references to racism. It’s rather like saying “The sun came up today.” True, but so what.

  67. Lol…Art, that’s why it ended up at a newspaper that published it, Paladino is a very hateful and unapologetic racist….they will fprce him off the school board upstate and he will become a pariah.

Chadster is being an idiot as usual, racism must be exposed and highlighted each time it rears it’s ugly head and practiced……silence is acceptance….

Why would anyone in their right minds suffer racism in silence, racists do not
like being exposed. Sometimes I wonder about Chadster’s agenda on BU.

….. just look at the destruction of the society in Barbados where racism has been a staple for 50 years post slavery, until it has become accepted and institutionalized..

I loved when racists asked me to spell words they were incapable of spelling while in the corporate environment, I would get a loud speaker and let the whole floor know that the racists were semiliterate and could not spell to save their lives.

  68. David,
Plse remember the Governor General gets a 100 per cent pension and usually comes at the end of a successful career.
The GG should not be a salaried position. In a small island economy we have to save as much ass possible, including parliamentary salaries and pensions.

    • The discussion about the replacement for the outgoing GG should be cloaked in the ‘should Barbados go Republic’. Can you imagine the caller recommended Mara Thompson for the job?

  69. What is wrong with David?

Mara has two university degrees (albeit in physical education) and was properly brought up. Comparable at least to Nita Barrow, who never even went to a university.

    • The problem Chad99999 in case you were lodged under a rock since 2008, Mara still has some unexplained business given her role as Office Manager at Thompson & Thompson. Plus, her contribution to date as an MP has not been stellar.

  70. Whenever Michael Lashley speaks to matters concerning TB, his comments often contain untruths.

Lashley and the Transport Board waited until 4 working days before the school term begins to think about repairing at least 25 buses in an attempt to increase the number of units available per day and provide an adequate complement of school buses for the next school term.

Politician never cease to amaze me; they would state a policy they want to implement, but not without making snide remarks about the past. In this case, Lashley referred to a bus, BM100, which he said was off the road since the 2000.

Lashley and Transport Board officials know that this is an UNTRUTH. BM100 is a 1990 Mercedes-Benz Caio Vitoria omnibus with manual transmission. it was REFURBISHED on TWO occasions, only to be parked in the yard of TB’s Weymouth Headquarters.

As recent as 2009, BM100 was used to service routes in the north. I was told the bus required a specific part for the gear-box because its reverse gear had malfunctioned. As a result, TB parked the bus in the yard before taking it to the “bus grave-yard” at Mangrove Depot.

Additionally, I would like to offer some advice to TB and Lashley, whenever government decides to purchase new buses. If, for example, TB purchases 30 units, do not license and insure all 30 at the same time. Because the next year all those units must be taken off the road at the same time to be repaired in preparation for inspection, before they could be licensed and insured.

    • Didn’t Lashley threaten to put a plan B in place a few weeks ago when the PSVS planned a work stop of sorts (partly successful) ? How did he plan to rollout a contingency?

  71. I haven’t been under a rock. An office manager does not usually make the big decisions in a law firm. Even if she is married to the boss.

    Collective guilt is not kosher.

  72. @ chad99999,

“……..comparable to Nita Barrow, who never went to university.”

    What institutions did she attend?

    St Michael’s Girls School, Barbados

    Barbados General Hospital
    – Basic nursing education

    Port-of-Spain General Hospital, Trinidad
    – Midwifery preparation

School of Nursing, University of Toronto, Canada
    – Public Health Diploma & Nursing Education Diploma

Royal College of Nursing, University of Edinburgh, UK
    – Sister Tutor’s Diploma

    Teacher’s College, Columbia University, USA
    – Bachelor of Nursing Science

  73. “Mara Thompson for the job”. A furriner representin a furriner. Wuh wrong wid dat ?A perfectly colonialistic solution. lol

  74. Well, this is the first time I have ever been wrong about anything, so I will admit it.
Nita actually struggled and struggled until she got a bachelor’s degree.
    Comparable to Mara.

“It is no different really to how when some of the BU Order of Testers (I know not who they are) do dat “tag team” pun (i) Danny Gill and den pun (ii) Walter Blackman.”

Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right – INRI,
God Almighty himself would have to come down from Heaven and tell me that bloggers like David the Blogmaster, Bush Tea, Millertheannanuki, Well Well, Sunshine Sunny Shine, Artaxerxes, Gabriel, Jeff Cumberbatch, Caswell Franklyn, William Skinner, ac, Alvin Cummins (to name just a few), and the many other strong-minded, independent thinkers on BU, allowed you to fashion them into a conspiratorial “tag team” against an insignificant being like me. Such an exercise would simply be a catastrophic and colossal waste of their collective time.

Thus, without any strong-minded, rational thinkers in their midst, this is what your “tag team” members must have morphed into:

BU Order of Testers (Simple-minded, Insecure, Effeminate Sissies) – BOTSIES for short.

Happy New Year to you and them.

  76. Taxpayers are paying Mara Thompson to represent St John and the woman promptly moved from St Philip to get away from her constituents.Pray tell, what has she done for those dumbass people in St John.Indeed what did EWB do?St John is the most neglected parish, only next to St Lucy in terms of disrepair and decay. In both parishes the Anglican Church is showing some pride in maintaining the parish churches.St Lucy’s rector Goodridge is doing an impressive upgrade,a work in progress. Both Kellman and Thompson oversee parishes that look the same as in 1966.Thompson might want to deny the extent of her late husband’s wealth and whether she has benefited to the tune of $39 million from his short professional life.

  77. Walterrrrrrrrrrrrr, how you good self?????

Man the rumours of your passing, (like mine) were i see groundless.

I see dat you was not invited to the Llaro Court ting nor to the Prince Harry ting but that is okay.

Maybe it will make you repent of your ways and come back from the darkside, you can claim that you were drinking Alleyne Arfur and got confused

Walter, as man, you should have know that, of all de ACRONYMS to choose to spell out, given your history about commercializing the trembling botsies of dem minors man why you have to go there my man!!!

You mean dat all dem one, one blows you get in 2016, got you punch drunk in 2017??]]

Nonetheless I pray you good tidings and success is most everything that you do (barring running with the wolves) to you and your family good health, continued wealth and may your skills find fruit in the new upcoming BLP administration.

(Just hope that the BLP witch-hunters, like the DLP paling cocks, do not frequent this blog, looking for those whom they may destroy in their victimization practices)

  78. Artax January 3, 2017 at 2:12 PM #

Today on Brasstacks the point was raised again about buying replacement parts such as gear boxes, engines, transmissions, diffs, etc, etc as normaly the bodies outlast the mechanical parts.

Those bus bodies and seats can be ably repaired when needed by the succesor to ACME and we have many upholsterers in Bim……..what is so hard about it.

That was rethorical as you have previously opined that commonsense does not help one to win elections.

Piece Uh De Rock Yeah Right,

The same to you and yours.

  80. Lol…Happy New Year to you Walter.

2 degrees in phys ed, exercising, yeah that really makes Mara suitable for a job as a sports instructor and nothing else and maybe not even that, the disrespectful woman sits in parliament in bright daylight and sleep, at taxpayers expense, on national tv,……and ya can see just how lazy she is just by looking at her.

  81. If de ole man is not mistaken Mr. Austin a Bajan can have dual citizenship.

I am not sure about St. Lucians but one never knows is such is not the case it would suggest that she relinquished that one for this one.

Otherwise you can be sure that it would have been a sticking point in the St John bye election and the next one.

But you do not need to worry about it thout BECAUSE during this coming election, she cud be Ninja Man legal offspring with the Bajan woman dat all ovah de internet recently dat ent gine be sufficient fuh de whitewashing dat de DLP gine get.

    Not one effing seat….
