Brexit – One from 28 Leaves 28

Submitted by Pachamama

dcameron_brexitOver sixty years ago Eric Williams famously argued that one from 10 leaves naught. His arithmetic formulation has been pregnant with meanings for Caribbean peoples since. Words which continue to ring in the ears of regional peoples for these six decades hence. Now the echo of Williams’ words may to be felt in the centre of the ‘former’ colonial masters. The colonialists who were run out of the Caribbean after an abysmal performance during world war two and the emergence of America as the hyper-power with the CIA as its spearhead in this region.

Within a few days the people of England go to the polls to determine this accidental political issue. We say accidental because it was almost an afterthought by current prime minister David Cameron as a way of getting a wedge issue, an insurance policy, to pry an election from opposition forces.

This does not mean that healthy numbers of British peoples have not had longstanding misgivings about the European Union, NATO and the Eurozone. And not without just cause. From the beginning, ‘hidden government forces’, birthed these alliances to dis-empower the citizens of Britain and empower unelected EU and business interests, at all levels of government. They have been highly successful in concentrating political and economic power into the hands of unelected officials in Brussels. And there maybe more diverse views in Scotland and Wales as based on wider internal political calculations – Scotland more so than Wales, we suspect.

Both the ‘leave’ and the ‘remain’ forces have waged extensive campaigns. In recent days the leave campaign has opened up a 10-point lead in some polls. We will be surprised if the Council of Europe allows a mere public expression by peasants to derail 50 years of strategic supra-national nation building efforts. The orders of magnitude are beyond large. Just a few years ago the Caribbean itself was in a haste to establish an EU of the Caribbean. Now that dissatisfaction is rife all across Europe, from hindsight, our thought leaders would no doubt be having fourth thoughts. We are used to relying on the mis-leadership of Caribbean elites.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer has estimated that Britain will lose 1.5 to 4.5 percent of GDP should the ‘leave’ campaign prevail. London, is indeed, in a life or death struggle to be ‘the leading centre’ for global finance. Indeed, minus the net capital inflows into London, and particularly Canary Wharf, Britain may well be heading backwards. For it can no longer be seen as a fourth generation industrial centre.

His case is quite persuasive especially when one considers that about 45% of British exports go to EU countries. These goods and services will immediate be subject to increased tariffs as coming from a non-EU country. Banking interests particularly, on balance, will face a sleuth of ‘headquartering decision making.’ This decision alone could turn Britain into a third world country unless it goes again on a re-colonizing project.

And there are several other political forces at work. These include the influence of far-right elements, within and without, the conservative party that believes the EU delivers too many immigrants. ‘Commonwealth’ citizens are feeling that they are and are likely to continue to be collateral damage from a distinctively racist discourse which was underground from the 1950’s, but now is in the open.

The immediate efforts of ‘leave’ activists are to stymie the endless flow of people from eastern European countries. Certainly, the foreign policy of Cameron ‘s government in relation to the ‘Middle East’ continues to deliver a steady flow of migrants, of a hue, likely to put a tad too much coffee into the British milk.

The British hate the idea of handing over 15 billion pounds annually to European bureaucrats. They see themselves as having to carry the paupers of the EU – the eastern European countries, the southern Europeans – Greece, maybe Spain and Italy are to be added soon. They feel outmanoeuvred by the Germans, the high tech industrial base of Europe and thus its increasing relative power regionally, globally.

There are some who are forecasting a total collapse of the EU project starting with a ‘leave’ vote in Britain. This maybe be possible but unlikely. Surely the project has entered unchartered waters. Extreme pressures are getting to the point of unsustainability. Surely, when the defense arm of the alliance, NATO, as America’s boy scouts could be made to threaten Russia with the current war games of 30,000 troops, on Russia’s western borders and on the anniversary of Operation Barbarossa, suggests that those in Washington may yet have some ‘useful’ purpose/s for they ‘united’ colonial possessions in North-western Asia (EU). Military considerations point to unity to fight a perceived enemy, as primary consideration.

On June 23, 2016 the people of Britain have two choices – ‘yes’ or ‘no’. We would like to suggest a third option. We contend that if the people vote yes, their vote will be ignored for years as terms for a Brexit are negotiated. During this window the potency of that vote will weaken as the establishment and business interests seek to re-interpret the intent of the people. Of course a ‘no’ vote will re-impose the position ante, will be a vote for the bankers, the unelected officials and so on. We however, suggest that the ‘yes’ will prevail if a fair election could be had. So we judge that one from 28 will still be 28.

Again the Caribbean, in the person of Fruendel Stuart, would have benefited David Cameron as to how expressions of the people in ‘elections’ could be easily misinterpreted. In the same way Stuart did not give us a national unity government then, Cameron will never accede to popular demands to leave the EU, neither now nor never! In both cases we will witness the most sophisticated impositions of private interests ahead of popular demands.

All these people shocked as shitee that all ova de cuntry people vote to leff. But dem big shots n London vote to stay. They wasn’t looking for dis baby atall.

But anyhow they is only one way to get pregnant so dem need a whole new set of protection, right.

Carrying dis child to term gine be hard enough but as dem young people dem saying growth to maturity gine be harder still.

I think Boris gine be large and in charge and move forward real propa…wid dat $9B in EU payments he now keeping I can see real pretty concessions to dem London big boys to keep the financial industry happy.

But check this. The old Brits who remember anudder time and country vote to step off, right. All the young yams vote to stay in the ground and mature in a EU country. So in 15 years when dem old cronies like we dun shrivel up dat is time for new referendum. Lotta shittee, right.

De other thing is that over the next lotta long talk time to settle dis divorce de couple dem might decide to get back together because dem realize de divorce real problematic. More lotta shitee right.

The Brexits had a coach with the message emblazoned on its side, words to the effect that leaving the EU will save Britz £350 million per week.Let’s hope some of those funds would find its way into development aid for Barbados and other former Caribbean States.
Besides those payments to the EU hierarchy, there is the liberal approach to justice and the over ruling of Her Brittanic Majesty’s Courts of Justice that makes the Brexits acceptable to the uneducated. The last and most fearful consideration of the ‘ignorami’,who are so similar to the WASPS of the USA who follow the Trump advocacy,is the apprehension and dread associated with the possibility of Turkey gaining entry into the EU.The Turks and their unbending, unyielding Islamist dogma,is the straw that broke the camel’s back.

@Vincent actually it was not the non-UK press that drove my query/observation but rather the overall news including from the UK. In fact the foreign press mostly expected a ‘stay’ vote.

Anyhow to you and @Miller the resident Brits, your local knowledge is desired.

What does it mean that Google says they are seeing a significant uptick in searches for ‘What is the EU’ and then others also point to other high end searches on ‘What happens after Brexit’?

How are those questions not crystal clear to every citizen in the United Kingdom?

Someone said today that with this vote the Brits have finally given up their historical snob appeal that Americans were dumb…now, that wag said, ‘there go the dumb Brits’.

Now I don’t think you guys are dumb to vote to leave but surely old chaps, smart people don’t check what they are voting about AFTER they do it. LOLLL. Or were those queries from people who were asleep over the last few months.

“Even though I voted to leave, this morning I woke up and I just — the reality did actually hit me,” one woman told the news channel ITV News. “If I’d had the opportunity to vote again, it would be to stay.”

” Google reported sharp upticks in searches not only related to the ballot measure but also about basic questions concerning the implications of the vote. At about 1 a.m. Eastern time, about eight hours after the polls closed, Google reported that searches for “what happens if we leave the EU” had more than tripled.”

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is resigning after the people voted against his wish to remain in the EU. If David Cameron was ,a follower of the Palmetto Street Model of Governance , instead of the Westminster model, he would have just shrug his shoulders and carry on regardless.

This is quite simply the beginning of the end of Great Britain.
The real joke is that is was not even seriously contemplated that this could happen when the albino-centric move to extort more concessions from Brussels was initiated by the British PM.

Thoughts that Britain could ‘make it alone’ are nothing but empty dreams. Britain has always enjoyed parasitic relationships with its colonies, and most recently with its European neighbours, in order to realise any success they enjoyed.

BREXIT is a major foul-up that the British will live to regret….and that we in Barbados will have to endure, due to our heavy dependence on their tourism patronage.

There are dark forces directing matters in this world that are way beyond our understanding and our ability to counteract, once BBE has withdrawn his counter-balancing presence.

Although some are shouting for Northern Ireland to seek a divorce from the United Kingdom and become part of Eire (Irish Republic) , this will never happened. Catholics and Protestants might have ,to some extent, came together to vote to remain in the EU. But the question of unification with the South will be thwarted by the Protestants majority , who will forever remain loyal to England, if not a United Kingdom.

And now we are hearing rumblings of Jamexit, coming out of Jamaica.

  10. chad99999 June 24, 2016 at 5:22 PM #

If anyone doubts that the Caribbean is full of dunces who unfailingly imitate their colonial masters, consider the following story:

At least one former legislator is insisting that the Jamaican government should follow the UK’s referendum on the European Union and hold a similar one on whether Jamaica should remain in CARICOM.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Oswald Harding says the issues that Jamaicans face in entering CARICOM countries like Trinidad show that the regional body has already violated the free movement of people agreement, which is a fundamental part of CARICOM.

Harding, who was a minister under a Jamaica Labour Party Administration , says Jamaica’s future as a CARICOM member shouldn’t be decided by politicians but by the Jamaicans who will be significantly impacted by any decision that is taken.

Meanwhile, former PNP Foreign Affairs Minister K.D. Knight says he doesn’t believe a referendum is the right way to decide Jamaica’s future in CARICOM.

Questions about the necessity of CARICOM were recently brought to the fore following complaints from Jamaicans who say they were treated badly by immigration officials after they were denied entry into Trinidad and Tobago.

Some Jamaican manufacturers are also of the view that the free trade policy allows countries like Trinidad with large manufacturing sectors to dump cheap products on Jamaica.

Decisions made when your head is hot is usually a bad one. Many Brits who voted to leave are now having regrets. They listened to loud mouth bad minded leaders whose lust for power will say anything to feed the people’s anger.

Look how the present government of Barbados regained control of the country….. It was all about an old woman claiming that the bus fare will go up and she would have to pay. Don’t forget that the present administration claimed that the opposition BLP will make the students at UWI pay for tuition and they the DLP will not ! ARRRRRG Dog bite wunna bottsies !

It’s almost laughable to read Jamaica is being advised to hold a referendum on its membership of Caricom. The politicians have so destroyed a good country that its citizens are forced to fly out to any country that will accept them. They all are looking for a livelihood which is denied them in their own country,Jamaica.Politicians set up Caricom and politicians will see to it that the said Caricom is destroyed.Barbados is already a densely populated country yet in trying to control its borders from certain unrefined visitors, the provisions of the same Caricom Treaty is readily if not eagerly embraced by the same Jamaican politician. Some people have no shame. And some people don’t forget how ignorance of a largely uneducated Jamaican voter, as is currently the state of affairs in the UK and might be the case come November in the USA,these uneducated voters do untold harm to the livelihood of educated and informed thinkers.

  16. Pieceuhderockyeahright June 24, 2016 at 10:00 PM #

    @ Gabriel,

You have to admit that a carefully run, emotive, xenophobically structured campaign would be the wedge that would cause Jamaicans to say yes to leaving CARICOM?

Look let me say this about Trump

He is appealing to the deep seated racism that lies in the US below all the “we are equal opportunity employers”

Hilary and her team lost an opportunity to absolutely pummel Trump with his Disability joke.

Do you understand how many persons with disabilities there are?

Or more specifically do you understand how many Disabled Veterans there are in the United States?

But mor important than that do you understand the brotherhood that is the Veterans cadre in the United States Armed Forces?

Every freaking house has a vet or someone who has been a vet.

They should have played up that incident to the max to the level of national solidarity and demanded an apology from Trump on National Television AND RECORDED THAT PUP!!!

and used that to stick it in the face of every single american that would thereafter seek to support The Donald.

Donald Trum p is only going to loose “IF HE LOOSES FACE”

THe majority of the 230M people in America are too dim to see him as anything but bluster.

Americans for the most part are stupid, in an albino centric way, they have an economy which “words” but they are a coney hair away from Bajans and you dun now how we does roll

  17. de pedantiic Dribbler June 25, 2016 at 5:27 AM #

@The Blogmaster, reading the list of Tweeting insults was revealing. Seeing the string of expressive English words reminded me of the audio of that ‘sweet prose’ on your jokes corner.

It also showed me that these Brits can’t hold a candle to our BUers when our folks washing yah backside in licks. LOLL.

@Pieces, interesting observation re “Hilary and her team …”. You know of course they will come back to that as they roll out their attack ads. So not ‘lost an opportunity’ completely yet. However, one wonders how the ads will actually resonate.

You are obviously not a student but a master of the psychology that is advertising. So you know all about sensitizing the sensibilities of the target audience.

Donald Trump has recast all that psychology it seems.

Simple reminder. John Kerry was cut down naked to his dog-tags in a verbal undressing by the Swift Boat folks. They were supposedly Vets like him and called his military bona-fides into question. They were very effective because they focused on his own campaigns against the ‘uniform’ re the Vietnam debacle which some people never accepted.

But generally Americans will not accept criticisms of their Vets and will turn on those (across party) who attack former military types…particularly if the attacker never served.

Trump upended all that with the mocking of Sen McCain’s military record. He completely survived that.

He has written a new advertising text book and everything previously understood to be pertinent must be explored a bit differently.

Of course he is not the only person who can write new books so he too can be upended; thus a whole new set of tactics are needed to take out this guy.

    @ De Word

I am on the iPad so yo must expect the unexpected

1.Scenery with day and night going through forest, escarpments, deserts
2.words rather narrative by James earl jones type “while you (Americans) sleep soundly I look for our enemies and kill them”
3.more scenes more encounters, fire fights, wounded, the Hollywood embellishments.
4.cutaway change of music, eyes coming into focus hospital scene
5.mother, or brother, or sister or wife, or son or grandfather crying say everything is going to be all right
6.therapy, time lapse photography years running by
7.cutaway to similarly challenged person as Donald scorned and have them talk in first person morphing into James Earl jones voice
8.let them tell their story and the fight they face
9.get ad spokesman from the Disabled Veterans Administration to speak.
    10.Group shot other similarly disabled
11.end ad with Donald parodying the reporter and the words “is this Donald the man we want in the White House?”

Repeat it with every type of profession that has suffered the similar injury or has a similar speech impediment

    Keep the veterans theme central.

    Enlist Hawkins

I am on the KST list of the government of the United States of America so this will reach them and the ads will start soon

This is July almost so there is not much time. Deal with the emotive and you undermine his support at the atomic level, in the homes, around the table, in the church, in the streets, let people see how he insults the dignity of your United States Armed Forces and that is not the man to safeguard all the homes of you gun toting Orlando prone Amuricans

They ef fed around with Bernie for too long, there was an easy way to quash him too but again they have their gurus and de old man ent no guru just an NCSBS/NCIC? bad boy gone off the farm sorta fellow lololol but wunna trained me well, just that…..oh well

Where there is no vision the people perish

  19. de pedantiic Dribbler June 25, 2016 at 9:21 AM #

OK….. As I said. You are NOT a student. You are a Master of the craft.

I am thinking KST is ‘Kill the SOB Traitor’ or some such vigourous theme.

And experience (general) tells me that ‘black ops’ guys only live to tell the tales if they are continually better than those sent to silence them or otherwise they go deep underground and basically disappear.

You haven’t disappeared so you must be scary good. LOLLL.

  20. Sargeant June 25, 2016 at 9:51 AM #

They should have played up that incident to the max to the level of national solidarity and demanded an apology from Trump on National Television AND RECORDED THAT PUP!!!
The incident with the Reporter happened during the campaign and Hillary couldn’t assume to be the nominee and spend ad money on Trump while she was still fighting Bernie. An ad has now been produced which has only run in certain markets targeting Trump’s words and actions.

  21. Vincent Haynes June 25, 2016 at 1:03 PM #

Chuckle………For those who love conspiracy theories,do you know which important world person this death is linked too?

  22. pieceuhderockyeahright June 25, 2016 at 1:44 PM #

    @ Sargeant

    Very well researched.

Your point regarding the overlap is taken but the source of funding and who manages that ongoing onslaught was not for Hilary and her team to effect rather sustain, it was an order from Clinton and let the engaged do the engagement

    I do primal things.

That ad is too clean, too much talk, too little adducement? If that is a word.

Too much intellectual content, it is focused on a little child and while not to seem insensitive to the child, one has to use the same tactic that Donald uses let the ingrunt Americans incorrectly fill in the dots to arrive at uncaring insensitive unfit candidate

It is the psychology of the ad that emotes the response, one must belittle the man.

Sargeant you are a man who took orders? So I will assume that while the people whom you interdicted on might have been decent, innocent or whatever you know what the objective and outcome has to be Destroy the Target.

Trump is the target and this was an autopilot operation which might suggest that Hilary an team are single tracked strategists

    @ de Word

    Known or Suspected Terrorists =KST

If you speak out against specific actions even though it is on a matter of principle sometimes it is interpreted as sympathizer to the enemies of the state and you get marked.

The BU blog is thusly marked given the type of debates as being a fomenting ground for ideological supporters in the Caribbean so fellows like Pachamama with his studied philosophy and presentments get flagged, and then guys who do aljazerra also get flagged, it is then what you continue to do that raises your subversion/threat level and can elevate you to fly/no fly status.

Then of course the are the ideologically empassioned or the nut cases that get a pass and you dun know that piece uh doan go with ideologically nuffin lolol
