  It would be interesting to find out what light bulb went off in Stinkliar’s head to suddenly want to declare a dividend on a fund of which he knew nothing? Who decided the rate?

  When Maloney lies down and dreams up another money grabbing scheme, they jump to make it happen and move heaven and earth to pay him…….yet the liar would never have declared a dividend to pay off all the people to whom government is indebted never ming the poor taxpayers waiting on tax refunds. He then moves on to another project.

  By the way, has Maloney finished the molasses tanks at the port yet?

  This Chris Sinckler scares the daylights out of me and so many others like me and he is deliberately sinking Barbados.
  The’re many questions that we will never get answers to. Can anyone say if Sinckler and or Mark Maloney is mentioned in the Panama Papers? Where are they going to launder their ill gotten money? The Swiss banks? Does the same Maloney pay taxes like we all do? Kellman, where is your voice and what are you saying beside nothing like Freundel who can’t even rein in Chrissey. Since when did the DPP ever ask for extra information from Mr. Cummins at Town planning especially when they are going after the small man and as such, the question was asked recently “when is the file on Mark Maloney going to disapair”? Seems that Markie got the word from the top man to continue building on Spring Garden. When are we going to stop these people?

  When the politicians and their yardfowls go around the electorate pimping for votes from next year, the electorate will have all right to throw piss on them for coming at their doors, the politicians are destroying small businesses to accommodate 4 or 5 crooks on the island so that they can continue to get their stream of bribe money for 2 and 3 terms while in parliament.

  The politicians are well aware that the scams created by Maloney, Bizzy et al, supports the minorities on the island at the expense of the majority people. The politicians continue to collude with the scams that rob the majority blacks of financial stability to take care of their families. The politicians are sellouts and bribe takers.

  None of the politicians should be trusted…they want your votes so that they can be elevated to a status to obtain titles and bribes while they help the minorities and business people steal your financial future and that of your children and grandchildren. . ..beware the politicians and their lies.

  BL&P MANAGEMENT DISAPPOINTED AS WORKERS STAGED PROTEST – LESS THAN A dozen workers of Barbados Light & Power’s Spring Garden plant staged a brief protest this morning. Equipped with signs and placards, the workers said they were stand in solidarity with a Barbadian worker who had been allegedly kicked by a Canadian safety officer last week.Even though an apology was forthcoming from the safety officer, tensions between the workers had not been smoothed over.“An apology was given, but later other workers had doubts about the sincerity since the same gentleman said that if he was kicked back he would fight with any of the workers,” an unidentified worker told NATION NEWS. Meanwhile, BL&P said the situation was one of “a misconstrued nudge between a supervisor and an employee at a recent meeting”. “The supervisor apologised subsequent to that meeting and the employee accepted the apology. The company’s investigation showed that there was no harmful intent and none was perceived,” the company said in a statement. Human resource manager, Gail-Ann King said that given the findings, BL&P was “disappointed that employees chose to stage protest when there is an established, agreed procedure to deal with all grievances”. “In fact, to date we have not received notification that even the first step of the grievance process has been taken,” she said. The utility company assured customers that it had put plans in place for the continued safe generation and delivery of power to customers.

  SENATE EXPOSE ON PROSTITUTION – Opposition Senator Wilfred Abrahams has called for a “serious discussion” on the issue of prostitution in Barbados.Speaking in the Upper Chamber during debate on the Trafficking in Persons Prevention Bill,2016, the Immigration (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and Criminal Assets Recovery Fund Bill, 2016, Abrahams, who is an attorney-at-law argued that though illegal, prostitution was carried out on the streets of Bridgetown.Abrahams, who is the caretaker candidate of the Opposition Barbados Labour Party in the constituency of Christ Church East also questioned why members of the Royal Barbados Police Force were not clamping down on the illegal sex trade while pointing out that homosexual and transvestite prostitution was being practised in Pinfold Street, the City. “Prostitution exists right in Pinfold Street. It exists in Crumpton Street right outside of Harrison College. It exists in Bush Hill, the Garrison, St Michael, it exists right opposite Hastings Police Station in Christ Church,” he told members of the Upper Chamber.Knocking Barbadians for what he called their hypocritical approach to prostitution, Abrahams recalled that when he resided at the Garrison, St Michael in close proximity to former Chief Justice of Barbados Sir William Douglas, there was a tacit agreement between lawmen and ladies of the night that once they kept to the side of the road opposite to the Chief Justice’s residence they would be allowed to engage in the illegal practice uninhibited.Abrahams also said court records would show that no one has been prosecuted in Barbados for engaging in prostitution for a very long time.He charged that Barbados’ reluctance to have a serious discussion on the issue of prostitution creates other issues for the country.“I believe that not everybody who is engaged in prostitution is a victim. Now I am not saying I support the practise, neither am I saying I am against it, I am saying that we as a country, not as a party, need to discuss the issue.The attorney said one of his clients, who admitted she was a prostitute, said she had made a conscious decision to go and feed her family since she had no job and was in debt. He cited another case where a Guyanese client who was encouraged by one of her friends to come to Barbados to take up a legitimate job was forced into prostitution after she could not find a legitimate job to make a contribution to the home.According to Abrahams, the client admitted to him that some nights when she was on the streets, she slept with as many as seven men to get enough money to satisfy her basic needs.He said she further admitted to him that she was forced to sell her body at Bds$60 for 20 minutes or part thereof.The Opposition Senator warned that when a woman was forced to sell her body to as many as seven men a night she exposed herself to all kinds of sexually transmitted diseases.

  MPS DESERVE PAY – Minister of Education Ronald Jones has hit back at critics, who have questioned the timing of Government’s move to restore a ten per cent pay cut imposed on parliamentarians back in 2014.“If not now, when?” asked Jones, while insisting that affected Members of Parliament (MPs) had a right to have their salaries restored.And he urged Barbadians not to be hoodwinked by propaganda being circulated on the issue.“Your salary is your property and you should not deprive anyone of their salary,” said Jones, who is currently embroiled in a dispute with unionized teachers over recent salary deductions made by his ministry.However, dealing specifically with MPs pay, he argued that “you may voluntarily give up your salary as we [parliamentarians] did, but if the time has elapsed you have a right to your property.“Some people may say it is not timely and I always argue, when ever is the right time? Because sometimes you get into a guessing game: Will the economy have to grow 50 per cent, 30 per cent, 20 per cent or ten per cent? Will the fiscal deficit have to go to zero and you get a surplus?”Addressing a branch meeting of the St George South constituency at the weekend, Jones was at pains to point out that parliamentarians had endured the cuts for about 30 months in support of Government’s fiscal consolidation programme.He said with clear signs that the economy was improving, Government had started to provide some ease for Barbadians, as he argued that MPs should not be excluded.The Mottley-led Opposition Barbados Labour Party has refused to accept the ten per cent restoration, instead committing the increased funds to charity.However, the Minister of Education warned the public not to be duped by “propaganda” as he also rubbished reports that the re-instatement of pay would result in higher gratuities for parliamentarians.“The propaganda was to try and conflict and confuse the mind,” he said, while noting that it drove the National Union of Public Workers to call for a 23 per cent pay hike.“And I said what madness have we descended into.”

So long as shareholders say yes to the shift to Bermuda, Sagicor Financial Corporation will become Sagicor Financial Corporation Limited and a corporate reorganisation will follow.The company shared details of the changes in a 132-page notice to shareholders.

  NGOs MEET TO FORGE LINKAGES – REPRESENTATIVES FROM SEVERAL non-governmental organisations assembled at Hilton Barbados today to evaluate what they do and see how they could make their operations more efficient. The forum, which included a panel discussion, was the brainchild of president of the Vagrants and Homeless Society, Kemar Saffrey.Saffrey said he was hoping some networks could be forged out of the half-day session entitled the National NGO Network Charity Summit.

  BROKEN PROMISE – A local charity is calling on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart to make good on a promise he made to them a year ago.Trustee of the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Phillipa Challis said her organization was still struggling to get three buses to assist children with disabilities, even though the Prime Minister had given his word that he would render assistance to them.While pointing out that the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust was importing “millions and millions of dollars” of items to assist residents and had to pay taxes on them, she said for the past three years the organization had been trying to get special buses to transport children with disabilities, but suggested that Government was not making it easy.She therefore stated that what her organization would most appreciate from Stuart would be assistance in importing the buses duty free. She said representatives of the charity had met with transport officials in their quest to find out what was holding up the process.Challis said she had even suggested to Government officials that “if it makes it easier, ‘I will buy a bus from the board of transport’, and [we have] even tried to purchase a bus at the board of transport. However, president of the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society Kemar Saffrey, who was a panellist, said his charity had been able to get items cleared from the Bridgetown Port “without paying duties or any tax or any whatsoever”.Earlier, Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo had encouraged the groups not to give up because of the problems they faced, saying it was critical that they formed strategic partnerships.She also called on Barbadians, both local and abroad, to “embrace, like never before, the spirit of charity and voluntarism”. Byer-Suckoo also noted that NGO’s often missed out on funding because they “don’t know how to access that funding”.

  PM LAUNCHES NATIONAL PARK – Local landowners were yesterday assured that their legal rights would be protected, as the Barbados System of Parks and Open Spaces was officially launched at the Natural Heritage Department in Sturges, St Thomas.Prime Minister Freundel Stuart also told residents living within the newly designed National Park area that they need not fear any negative change or disadvantage to their lives.He said the National Park, which stretches from St Lucy to St Philip and includes the Scotland District, would be a special space and place where landowners and residents could continue their livelihoods. The Prime Minister further assured that the National Park designation would not alter the legal rights of landowners and occupiers of land in the area, nor would it confer new rights on the visiting public. The Prime Minister however contended that if the true potential of the green economy was to be realized, more human and financial resources would have to be invested to allow for the National Park to be fully developed.

  VINCENTIANS REMANDED – Two Vincentian nationals were today remanded to Her Majesty Prisons Dodds after being charged with multiple drug offences.Renwick Roger Richards and Ramon Rupert Horne, both 29, were separately charged with possession of cocaine; possession with intent to supply cocaine; trafficking cocaine; and importation of cocaine.Shortly after arriving at the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday, Richards and Horne were searched by Custom officers.The officers discovered ½ kilo of cocaine in each of their luggage.The two accused pleaded guilty when they appeared in the District C Magistrates Court.They were each fined $25,000 forthwith and ordered to reappear on June 15, 2016. TWO INJURED IN STATION HILL ACCIDENT – Fifty-four-year-old David Carter of Leinster Avenue, Station Hill, St Michael sustained a broken leg after a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) ran off the road and crashed into a shed from where he sold popcorn on Station Hill. Keanue Benjamin, also of the same address, sustained cuts to one of his hands during the accident. Both men were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention.

  CAVS IN PERIL – Orange Three Pinelands are one game away from lifting the 2016 Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier League title.Last night at the Barbados Community College they won game two in the best of five series final 81-78 over Station Hill Cavaliers to give the Cavs a major mountain to climb. After the first three quarters the scores read 21-12, 40-40, 55-55.Again Pinelands’ point guard Jeremy ‘Bull’ Gill led the way with a game-high 21 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Junior Moore finished with 18 points and also had 11 rebounds, eight defensive and three on the offensive end.Shooting guard Ramon Simmons netted 14 points and Ian Alexander had three block shots, which were the most by anyone on the Pinelands team, as well as ten points in the game. With the exception of Simmons, Pinelands’ starting five each spent more than 30 minutes on court and were relentless in their efforts.That was the difference between the two coaches Renaldo Maughan of Pinelands and Adrian Craigwell of Cavaliers. Craigwell rotated his players consistently with the exception of captain Jason Smith who was the only player on court for more than 30 minutes.   Just retiring this lot from Parliament is insufficient and insignificant punishment. There must be a way of punishing every one of them in a manner that discourages others from doing the same in the future.

  There is Jones talking rubbish…while looking to deprive others of their salaries.

  Each and every one of these nobodies in parliament pretending to be somebody should be hung and thorown in a potters field.

  Let me make this point again.

  Voting this government back in would be the worst thing that the people would have ever done in electoral politics in Barbados. But voting in the BLP by a slim majority would be almost as bad.

  The rot engendered by the blatant demonstrable self serving policies of this current government has now gone so deep that their removal in a close vote of say, 16 to 14, will only serve to extend the rot in the next parliament. The new lot will have well learnt that the seemingly self serving practices of this current government have been essentially condoned by a significant proportion of the people and they will have no urgent incentive to change the flawed Stuart game plan. The downward slide of the country is likely to be accelerated if this happens.

  Only a demoralizing removal of the incumbents to the tune of say, 2 or less to 28 or more, will send the message that Barbados is totally fed up with the numerous seeming infelicities, gaffes, missteps and blunders of “Fumble’s Fools T.M”.

  The new government must, within 90 days, fully enact extremely tough anti-corruption and FOIA legislation that would seriously punish both corruptors and corruptees, along with drastically amended Parliamentarian Pension Legislation and Parliamentarian ethical conduct and Parliamentarian recall legislation to gravely punish any parliamentarian proven to be involved in such acts as are currently hinted at in public domain documents .

  A third party of fresh hopefuls, even though it appears to be the optimal solution for our current woes, appears to be unlikely to be successful in the coming elections but offers some hope for a future one if the right people can be found and if they start working sensibly and strategically very soon towards developing policies for excising the bad examples of this 2008 to ? administration from the bajan body politic…..

  BUT……..

  Your points regarding legislation are valid BUT, it seems after years of preaching my message has not gotten through regarding our priorities.

  So, once again:

  The DLP’s first naive failing was not taking control of the civil service. Owen Arthur got things done in this country by micro-managing the civil service. It is our legacy of slavery that people have to practically be whipped to carry out basic functions in the absence of private-sector reward motivation. The fact that there are no consequences for poor or no performance in the civil service makes things worst. Lawyers will never be able to micro-manage anything, they are trained to debate ideas.

  If this is not dealt with IMMEDIATELY upon a new gov’t taking office, none of the ideas and good intentions patriots and foreign investors have can come to fruition. The ministry of the civil service needs to be a HUGE PRIORITY, especially in acting on complaints about the other ministries and gov’t offices. The interaction between the various professional organisations, chamber of commerce etc. and ministers needs to be weekly like cabinet meetings.

  If the next gov’t does not understand that their job is to LEGISLATE, REGULATE AND FACILITATE, the rot will continue. In order for someone to pay a bribe it must otherwise be impossible for them to get what they want. That has to stop.

  Frustrated…exactly, it should never be easy for any corrupt, self-serving business man to just pick up a phone and not only have access to a government minister, but bark and shout orders to that minister to get his way, because the minister is compromised through bribetaking.

  Fearplay…you are thinking back then, I am thinking it’s doubly satisfying to own the black slaves in parliament in 2016, when all you have to do is pay them a bribe, no plantation to run, no overheads, the slaves in parliament just keep their people in check so you can have free rein of a whole coubtry.

  ROOTS has been on cable for the whole week…fascinating to watch.

  Some people do try to help the neglected in Barbados, regardless of their motives. I would imagine there is no bribe money involved in getting buses into the island to help the disabled children. I would imagine the government ministers don’t give a shit…lol

  Yup three years and counting, for a charitable organization seeking permission to donate three buses to the handicapped people of Barbados. Three years waiting for the most dynamic, energetic and honest prime minister the Caribbean has ever seen, to be moved to action. Contrast the speed, complexity and effectiveness of the duty free, VAT and tax waivers provided to Sandals.

  Ease of doing business? What’s that? Keep in mind that those monied folks who even offered to buy a bus from the Transport Board will have monied friend too. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall at one of their cocktail parties. Trouble is, all of us will be judged against this group of buffoons masquerading as leaders. Just think about it. If these buffoons are our leaders, what does it say about us a followers?

  From the time Hardrock came on the scene I made a deliberate decision to purchase Arawak,never Hardrock.I observed however that the store which supplies my materials without offering me the choice,placed Hardrock on my list.I refused it.Further,my mason told me HR takes longer to dry.I don’t like Maloney’s disrespectful,bullying,backra-johnny- come —lately attitude.But high know where old house is.Our parliament is filled with stupid blacks who failed to benefit from state provided education.JA’s all.

  Last I heard, approval to pay a dividend by a corporation is made at Board level – but maybe governance at HCF are different from that at for-profit companies – if there are any governance rules/guidelines at HCF/CBB

  Despite the government declaring a dividend to pay Maloney, he got his money, then took the taxpayer funded Grotto agreement to the bank as collateral and got an additional 50 or 60 million dollar loan, that is how these crooks are able to pay massive bribes to politicians and strut arounding the island all arrogant, snarling at government workers and politicians.

  But they are playing fast and loose….what they are doing is not sustainable, they are small fish…bigger fish got fried…lol

  Which commercial entity- either in the private or public sector -can declare a dividend to its shareholders without recommendation and approval from its Board of Directors?

  The actual payment of the dividend is certainly an ‘Operational’ exercise; but certainly not the decision to make such payment which is entirely the responsibility or purview of the Board of Directors.

  DR. JR, if you can direct us to such a case where operational management took it upon itself to declare and pay dividends to shareholders without the approval of the Board of Directors we will be prepared to make an endowment to the Faculty of Social Sciences worth $200,000 per annum for the next 20 years.

  If Mark Maloney is such a high-flying entrepreneur why not offer to sell LIAT to him for peanuts so that he can make his name in the airline business and become the local equivalent of Richard Branson richly deserving of the title ‘Sir’?

  This would be a golden opportunity for the Stuart administration to divest itself from non-performing commercial assets as part of its behind-the-scenes Privatization programme.

  If he, Maloney, is that good as to take over LIAT for song I would be the first to salute the man as a real, real icon of a business tycoon and not as the parasitic business flea he presently appears to be.
  His demands for special incentives for his Aero Caribbean venture would now be justified unlike the Coverley matchboxes and the Hard Rock cement statue of Defiance parasitically sucking on the already sore nipples of the Government, to use the imagery of Sow Fumble.
