If interdictions continue at the current rate the RBPF will harvest just short of 12 imperial tons thanks to growers off the illegal plant.  As of May 19th World Marijuana Commodity Prices rage from US$1000 in Alabama to US$5000 for hybrid in Florida.

If the above hold true,Barbados will  burn marijuana with a street value of between $59,000,000 to $268,000,000. Let me say it simple $29 to $268 million Bajan dollars. The marijuana extract CBD which is used treat Epilepsy cost approximately $70 for 4 milligrams while 60 Marinol tablets cost $400Bds.  How much are we losing out in not having a medical marijuana industry as a smart partnership with an international pharmaceutical company?

Why burn money when we can repurpose and change the reputation of  marijuana?  We need to stop let those who smoke marijuana and end up psychotic cloud our judgement on the benefits of a Cannaceutical Industry. Should we prohibit the use of rat poison warafin for blood thinning and eating of kidney beans?  Warafin is a rodentcide and uncooked Kidney beans are dangerous.  Oh, by the way I don`t smoke, drink or snort.

Let us be optimistic and less pessimistic if we are to remain relevant as a people who can solve problems while creating opportunities.

Ahh…the dumb government of course cant see they forest for the trees amd even if they could would much prefer the trees translate to big dollars…for their own pockets.

People who need the marijuana tea for medicinal purposes, would not need to travel thousands of miles and spend thousands of dolllars to get treatment, that money would be spent in Barbados.

  2. The BU household understands Bajan Green is of a superior quality which transports the user the giddy heights of real quality.

  3. “Oh, by the way I don`t smoke, drink or snort.”

It is amusing that those who write an article about marijuana always proclaim that they did not touch the substance, and the few that admit they were in physical contact with the substance often claim that they did not inhale. I was exposed to second-hand smoke. 🙂

You must must forgive me when I use a US metric when thinking of a Barbadian problem. Perhaps it is because I am heavily invested (son) there.

I am one person who is oppose to legalization / decriminalization of marijuana. Each time I hear those words or the phrase ‘medical marijuana’, my blood begins to boil. I begin to think of those who were victims of the war on drugs. Lives destroyed in a senseless war; families broken apart; people incarcerated for long period of times; and of the lives that were lost.

How can you conduct an all out war on a segment of your society and then one day you tell them that was illegal is now ‘legal’. How do you fix the pain that was inflicted on them?

Talk of medical marijuana is an indication of two facts (1) the war on marijuana was lost and (2) someone has figured out a way to make a ‘legal’ buck out of marijuana.

When people want high grade and pure marijuana, they leave Mexico and go the US. I suspect that benefits of a “Canaceutical’ industry will not be as great as we think it would be.

  4. @TheGazer

Do you mean like the time during the prohibition period against alcohol in the USA?

  5. Last Year the state of Colorado returned monies to its citizens because of the ‘prosperity’ brought to them by the cultivation and sale of marijuana.

Marijuana is good let it grow. Used it before and not only does it relax the body but it also transports the mind to a more enlightened state. So let it rip.

  6. Making the use of marijuana illegal demonstrates the extent to which mankind has strayed from the REAL meaning of life. It really is the height of idiocy.
Not only is it counterproductive – increasing both the lure and the economic value to those who then choose to break the law, but it cost the state horrendous amounts of time, money, effort, court and prison resources …and for what…?

It is like paying exorbitant fees to ensure that your child goes to a highly protected private school, …’safe’ from the evil influences of the ‘riff-raff’ who populate the public schools.
….EXCEPT that the main purpose of ‘school’ is to prepare the child to face, overcome and succeed in the REAL WORLD – which is a riff-raff infested jungle of dangers…

Even if marijuana was as dangerous and destructive as some would wish to portray, (and for some personalities, it probably is …. just as peanuts can be deadly to some of us ) it should be by EDUCATION, EXPLANATION and example that citizens are led to make wise choices.
Maturity does not come by being ‘protected from evil’…. but by learning to overcome evil with good….
School is about learning the maturity to be successful adults, and this ‘life’ is about learning the maturity of character that is needed to qualify for REAL life.

  7. Before you legalize/decriminalize or begin to talk of medical marijuana let’s consider the cost of the war on drugs. Families were separated and destroyed; a whole generation was incarcerated, shot, lost their jobs or their lives because of this accursed war on drugs.

I don’t care who smoke what, who they are sleeping with or which bathroom a person wants to use. What I care about are those who were caught up by the war on drugs being made whole in some way.

Now that society has found an angle to make a legal buck out of selling marijuana, the rage is for medical marijuana. Where do those who were ruined by an asinine war, go to pick up the pieces ? Will these crimes be reviewed, will pardons be given and criminal records be sealed?

And what a war it was. An unfair war. A bigoted war. If you smoke crack, they threw the book at you. If your drug of choice was heroin then they handled you with kid gloves. Right now America has a heroin epidemic and the language used to describe these abusers is one that is filled with sympathy and concern for these drug abusers.

So before you rush to get your dose of medical marijuana, think about the victims of the unjust war of drugs. Let us fix them before you get your fix.

Don’t be lull into a foolish sleep. I am willing to wager, that some will be using marijuana and person next to them (without a script) will still be arrested for possession. Just another version of the crack and cocaine game.

It is amusing how the brotherhood goes through the window when there is a possibility of getting some ‘medical’ marijuana. That kind of albino-centric thinking is acceptable.

  8. *crack and heroin — not cocaine

  9. They say hanging don’t stop murders. In the Americas,it is reaching epidemic proportions especially right on our door step……T&T.Stop the rot and carry out the penalty, you will see how quick all these guns would disappear and all these macho young fellows would tremble when they hear the judge pronounce sentence to be carried out in three weeks.

  10. Wait where you now come from bro, a memo was sent out stating there would be no Cahill and since there would be no cahill it is abundantly clear that Cahill would not cost barbadians a dime
Any who if u prefer you can join the new group organized by Kammie Holder called The Suspicious watch Dog Group against Cahill

    @David, Touché . Prohibition indeed.

@Gazer your arguments on this topic are like wisps of that second hand smoke…quite devoid of real matter but yet full of purpose.

How pray tell does the (failed) war on drugs which did indeed decimate and victimize hundreds of thousands of Black youth NOW invalidate any new process to legalize marijuana??

We act based on a given set of data and when that data changes we modify and move forward with vigor.

If we side stepped new decisions because of the precedent of related historical acts we would forever remain stagnant.

    You know that.

In blunt social economic terms terms. That war on drugs strategy is sunk costs. Requested, paid for and still there as a reminder.

There is no value to retard new investments because you are focused on the utility – or in this case lack thereof – from that old investment.

  12. @The gazer
What exactly are you arguing? Do you or anybody on BU know the difference between the use or abuse of cannabis hemp?

Did you know that before prohibition hemp was the go-to medicine?

    What are you afraid of?

It is only by addressing your fears that you can become enlightened.

  13. Hemp Oil is the purest form of concentrated Cannabis. Taken by drops orally, unlike Cannabis that is smoked, it is not Carcinogenic.

When marijuana is legalized people can make their own quite simply, until then you may risk being prosecuted. Big Pharma will stand in the way until they can patent it and thereby control it! Big Pharma, Creates Customers Not Cures!

  16. Mottley apostles pushing a blp agenda first it was PW on the loose with his political spin on marijuana now here comes Kammie Holder on the pages of BU spouting his version
Anyhow the two apostles going to have a lot of coverting to do as bajans not ready to drink from the poisionous well of deprivation to earn a dollar while the social fabric sinks into a hell hole of decay with no Hope in sight and taxpayers have to pay the pied piper for his song

  17. Very interesting times ahead PW pushing the homosexual and marijuana agenda on a blp platform and Kammie Holder pulling the wagon ac

  18. @AC, you seem like you have the BLP demon.

  19. I am not making myself clear so let me try again.
Before I do, let me take a broad swipe at the rest of BU. Legalization/decriminalization/medical use of marijuana is one thing the the right, the left and pot heads can agree on.

Again, I don’t scare if you are smoking it or rubbing it on. More power to you.

    My point: Non-violent marijuana user
Those who were imprisoned should have criminal records related to marijuana use expunged. Those who are in jail should be released and pardoned. Those who were fined should get their money back. Hey don’t get me going… I am not a reparations guy, but in this case I want to see reparations and back wages. That is the other half of the equation that no-one addresses.

  20. The Gazer wrote,

“Those who were imprisoned should have criminal records related to marijuana use expunged. Those who are in jail should be released and pardoned. Those who were fined should get their money back.”

That is perfectly logical but can it be done. Need a legal opinion.

The “Jail black men” industry in North America would suffer huge losses.

  21. @AC @Adrian Clarke, you deserve a medal for your role as a DLP antagonist. Who do you nominate as a BLP antagonist? Perhaps, you can get together and form a movement for political operatives and yardfowls. BPOYA aka Barbados Political Operatives and Yardfowls Association is a suggestion.

  22. The AG promised, like he did to investigate Mia’s LEC, a study of whether legalizing/decriminalizing this herb is feasible. What is the status?

  23. Legalizing marijuana will free up space at Dodds.

  24. @ David
Tha AG’s promise, like the PM’s word, has no value beyond the impact of the moment it is spoken. These are men of no character. Men whose words are meaningless and empty…. the worse possible sorts to be ‘leaders’.

They are all quickly reaching the lows of their king and guru of meaninglessness ….StinkLiar.

  25. The Status would be revealed intime by tge AG.However during the no confidence debate Mia said she would give proof of her LEC ..However not counting her past promise of commitiment to the public this is almost two weeks that the promise has not been delivered either she is a bold faced liar or her integrity scale is broken and is in bad need of repair
In the meanwhile i am bowled over by PW interest and Kammie Holder interest in piolting legalization on a blp platform
Irony of ironies cause when alll is saud and done what is being revealed are the whys and Y nots of the PW marijuana poll

@AC, I don`t ever think a response is ever warranted to you babbling until now. However, where is it ever mentioned I am proposing legalization of marijuana? Perhaps, a cursory check of a dictionary online would tell you the difference between decriminalization and legalization.

No time to waste with your mischievous hit and run attacks!

  28. kammie in the same vein can you categorically denied that you have no interest in seeing marijuana legalised.

  29. Kammie
Never argue with a fool…. least there become two involved…

  30. The fact of whether Kammie proposed or opposed legalization of marijuana goes directly to his submitted article on BU no ifs ands or buts.and to u professor big nose brass bowl u can sit your big butt down and stop playing dictator advising people how to react a.ss hole
In the mean while mind your f ng buiness ole man

  31. ac, you hitting the rum already this morning? Just because it is legal, don’t abuse it so early in the day.

  32. The fact being there are elements in this society who have no interest in the decay of the social fabric of this country all because it does not affect them personally on a day to day basis. Only bottom line is money and self interest.
Yet on a regular day one can hear these prophets of doom and gloom preached morals but when certain illegal practices interact with morals against illegal purpose or cause then there hypocrisy rises to top and shows their true colors
Kammie Holder for what it is worth preaches about the value of the enviroment but cannot connect the value of a drug or a substance which can be deathly harmful to tge social enviroment of society.
Truly many in this society has lost their way while selling their soul for economic gainsake

  33. Kammie’s anti Cahill role will not endear him to DLP yardfowls.

  34. What will Barbados do when Canadian Tourists arrive at GAIA with their bottle of Scotch and a few spliffs.

Will the BTMI advertise WARNINGS in Canada that Weed is ILLEGAL in Barbados ?

  35. Yes Kammie yes You .You point the finger at govt with an indignation of self value characterised by morals to chastize and condemthe evils of plasma gastification
Yet you have no fault in placing barbados society in the harmful emission of drug and substance abuse with the implicit reasoning of deriving economic fortunes for the country

  36. Shouts of doom and gloom emitted from the mouth of this enviromentalist in the past year and half stating that he had barbados interest at heart..Shouts of mushroom clouds .melt downs and fears of terror to whip up frenzy.
Yet Kammie now sees it fit or necessary to place barbadian society under the intolerable grips of drug and substance abuse which can as has show to devastate and destroy minds in small and large cities across the global hemisphere
How could this be. I tell you just a selfish interest of an individual character

  37. Moral values must be consistent cannot be cherry picked moral values are the equivalent of what one stores in the heart and in the manys ways there are dispensed..You get it kammie

  39. @AC, Kamme Holder like he get under your skin, man stop fight so dirty. Lol

  40. Hell yes ! kammie bold faced hypocrisy is what got under my skin, Here is a person who talks about the evils of plasma gastification even though there is not one single catastrophic event in any country where there are WTE by use of plasma that Kammie and any of the environmentalist can point to as proof
Yet on the other hand he presents an article on marijuana pointing out all the glorious benefits to society when evidence has already exposed the horrific negatives that are derived from the long term use of marijuana
So f king hypocritical that kammie that he ought to hang his head in shame . One cannot acts as a moralist and protector of certain interest and neglects to point out other obstructions that are a hindrance to mankind but would gladly attached themselves to a chain that is twisted broken and where many links to complete are broken

  41. @ACS, Someone finally got you to raise your blood pressure and we know you would have met your match. Kamme Holder where are you man you like you let the DLP chief whip run you underground. Lol

  42. What a JA (cube?).
