Dear Roy Morris and Nation Reporters as guardians of the masses of our fate and members of the fifth estate can you enquire of the government and especially the cantankerous […] minister of government Dr Denis Lowe how the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) is now $700 million up from $240 million? Personally, I don`t trust this Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement in the absence of full disclosure and escalating cost. Perhaps, your report got the cost all wrong. Why all the secrecy and haste in the abundance of sunshine and blue energy? Who would think a government which came to power on the promise of transparency would turn its back on the masses?

It is now apparent the government is not interested in recycling or waste reduction but on waste generation. Any smart Bajan can get an international financier to invest in either solar or blue energy for a decent commission so the question begs why the stubbornness to burn garbage if more environmentally sustainable solutions exist. In addition, our Environmental Protection Department nor Ministry of Health do not have the expertise, manpower or equipment to monitor and enforce air quality, so who will?

Finally, let me remind the public that in the case of Runley Greaves vs Arawak Cement Plant the trial judge in his summation said “the Plant is a public good and the residents must learn to live with it.” Thus, imagine flyash made up of PM10 and PM2.5 raining down on you daily 366 days. Will we see the killing off of the West Coast Reef and tourism on the West Coast? Can the Government of Barbados tell the country of a SIDS where this unproven, expensive, energy hog technology was successfully used with a national waste reduction strategy and recycling industry?

Donville Inniss as a voice of reason, how can you accept this initiative not only from the escalating cost perspective but from the point of view it is unproven technology? The time is not too far off, when Bajans must embrace a new political dispensation to seek a new governance model when politicians will be held liable for misfeasance. Barbados is for all and not only for the enrichment of the capitalist and friends.

New Jersey utility Public Service Electric and Gas Company has converted two landfills into solar farms, bringing its total landfill/brownfield solar projects to seven.

The two new projects — the 10.14 MW-dc Parklands Solar Farm in Bordentown, New Jersey and the 11.18 MW-dc Kinsley Solar Farm in Deptford, New Jersey — are the two largest centralized solar projects built to date by PSE&G.

The Parklands Solar Farm transforms 40 acres of landfill space into a solar generation powerhouse by installing 33,402 solar panels, while the Kinsley Solar Farm fills 35 acres of unused landfill space with 36,841 solar panels. The solar panels generate enough electricity to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 15,000 tons annually.

  4. It’s all very strange
Stantec work for Cahill yet when asked Stantec front desk say they have no further dealings with Cahill and have no comment to make
Why be in a photo shoot and 3 or 4 days later refuse to comment on what’s going on ????

  6. Did I hear it correctly or was it the deathly silence on the Cahill energy deal indicative of what is happening with this nonsence this thing is 5+ years away from coming on line if it ever gets started. what happens between then and now???? 500tons a day for 5 years = 1million tons +- of garbage to get rid of
How is this good of the good people of our island

  7. Just another scam folks.

It amazed me that all the freezing cold countries are big on solar, while small dependent islands like Barbados, who have had the sun for FREE for eons, are so slow to solar power the whole island……as I said about 2 years ago, one of the above listed countries should start charging them for the use of the sun, I do believe that is what these half-assed leaders are waiting for, truly.

  8. OR…………they are waiting for someone from the above listed countries to pay them a bribe to solar power the islands….steupss

No need to wonder if Lowe’s university is accredited or not.

Above is the real thing. An easily searchable database of all accredited American community colleges and Universities, with links to each college or university’s website.

    Low Lowe.

  13. Sometimes when we wonder what is happening, it is not money changing hands, but it is about bodily fluids trading places.

  14. Black Barbados Baby boomers have sold out the legacy of future generations to their white foreign capitalist masters. The days may be long but the years short, for baby boomers will some day be replaced by millennials who demand accountability for ministerial malfeasance and nonfeasance. The Denis Lowe Cahill Plasma Gasification Plant potential fallout falls squarely at the feet of Denis Lowe.

  15. Solar Power on the Rise: The Technologies and Policies behind a Booming Energy Sector (2014)

    August 2014
Solar power – clean, reliable, and increasingly affordable – is experiencing remarkable growth across the U.S.
    DOWNLOAD
    Full report
Solar power generates electricity with no global warming pollution, no fuel costs, and no risks of fuel price spikes, and has the potential to help move the country toward cleaner, reliable, and affordable sources of electricity.

Small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, typically on rooftops, account for the majority of solar installations, while large-scale PV systems and concentrating solar power (CSP) systems constitute the majority of solar’s overall electricity-generating capacity.

All three are undergoing rapid growth. Given the abundance of sunshine across the country, solar power has the potential to supply a significant amount of electricity that is both environmentally and economically attractive.

  16. California Installed More Rooftop Solar In 2013 Than Previous 30 Years Combined

BY KILEY KROH POSTED ON JANUARY 2, 2014 AT 12:37 PM

2013 was a banner year for clean energy and the U.S. solar industry was no exception. California, the nation’s solar standout, more than doubled its rooftop solar installations last year from 1,000 megawatts (MW) to 2,000 MW. To put this number in perspective, writes Bernadette Del Chiaro of the California Solar Energy Industries Association, it took California over 30 years to build the first 1,000 MW of rooftop solar.

“When utility-scale solar projects are added in, California’s total solar power picture well-exceeds 4,000 MW today — nearly twice as much installed capacity as exists at California’s last remaining nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon,” according to Del Chiaro.

And California isn’t alone in its rooftop solar surge. “About 200,000 U.S. homes and businesses added rooftop solar in the past two years alone — about 3 gigawatts of power and enough to replace four or five conventionally-sized coal plants,” Bloomberg reported.

  17. In the meantime installations in Barbados has come to a screeching halt since March.

  18. Neither BLP or DLP have cleans hands in good governance. Sadly our asses is up a creek for while Rome burns the B and D engage finger pointing. Why cannot our politicians provide good governance.

  19. 25,000 Buildings (Homes/ Businesses /Schools,etc) in Barbados with 4kw rooftop solar systems equates to 100 megawatts of solar power.

  20. 40megawatts @$300M =$7.5M per Megawatt plus infrastructure costs cost of the land etc etc ect and this compares favourably to comparib projects how

  21. Dr Denis Lowe`s Facebook page is quite interesting(for its absence of stuff you wonder why he is even there)..check it out..About…Work and Education..no workplaces to show.No schools Universities to show..why , if he is so proud to have obtained a BA degree, then A MA degree (one year later, which is really incredible) and then a Doctorate degree….from a reputable University such as University of Cincinnati. Why is he shy to put it on his Facebook page?Just wondering.

  22. @http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2015/06/17/teen-alleges-two-year-affair-with-senator-don-meredith.html
Meredith has previously been criticized for improperly claiming he had a doctoral degree (he is no longer allowed to call himself “Dr. Meredith” on Senate correspondence), and for expensing to the Senate a Washington trip he and his wife took to attend the National Prayer Breakfast. Meredith repaid the funds.

It looks like the Canadians take this business of calling oneself Dr. very seriously. This fellow Don Meredith used to call himself Dr. but is no longer permitted to do so, because he is NOT a physician and does NOT have an academic doctoral degree.

And according to this Toronto Star report it looks like he has a few more troubles as well…

According to the God’s Bible College website they offer associate and bachelor’s degrees. Nothing on the website about master’s or doctoral degrees

    Some more questions

Did Dr Lowe make his PhD certificate a document of the house during the budget debate or did he just display it?

If anyone has access to a copy of his Ph.D certificate could they post it on BU for all to see?

I presume the cameras captured the certificate held up by Dr Lowe. Is there a picture of it in the public domain?

Does the PhD certificate say which University awarded it? If so was it the University of Cincinnati and when was it awarded?

Was the PhD awarded before or after the University of Cincinnati confirmed only his (specified only as Denis Lowe and not Dr. Lowe) work that was done at that university?

Re. Mia Mottley’s legal certification, presuming she needs any, Could any of our legal beagles on BU (including Caswell) indicate if there was indeed a grace period when legally qualified persons were permitted to practice in Barbados without having the home grown Legal Education certificate in the early days of the implementation of that certificate?

What is stopping Mia Mottley from bringing a vote of no confidence against the PM and the four ministers who committed Barbados to the shame and unorthodoxy intrinsic in the signature of the Cahill MoU and the evident lack of due diligence in its provenance?

On another matter, This CAHILL thing is potentially much bigger than the budget. If you saw Donville Inniss’ face and body language while he was sitting next to Dr Lowe while lowe was delivering his Oscar performance during the budget, you would realise that Donville Inniss was totally uncomfortable with it.

Perhaps we should be looking towards a solution to this problem involving Donville in a Gorbachev type role on the Government side with Mia continuing her current role from the Opposition side.

    Rambling as usual;

  26. @Are-we-there-yet

Presumably MAM will address this matter on Sunday evening at Tyrol Cot.

    Lowe calls out Mia

Screen shot 2015-06-17 at 7.06.28 PMMinister of the Environment Dr Denis Lowe has challenged Opposition Leader Mia Mottley to produce her legal certificate.

After making his doctoral certificate a document of the House of Assembly a short while ago, he called on Mottley, whose legal certification has been called into question by members of the Government, to do the same.

The embattled Environment Minister, who said he was not in the habit of picking fights for no reason, said he was prepared to fall on his knees and apologize if  he had wronged Mottley in any way.

However, “I will defend myself”, said Lowe.

He warned “if she can’t bring it”,  she could face either 5,000 or 12 months in jail for practicing law illegally.

  28. Denis Lowe’s doctorate is not theology:

Dr. The Hon. Denis Lowe, M.P.

Minister of the Environment and Drainage

Dr. the Honourable Denis Lowe, M.P., specialises in Developmental/Clinical Psychology. He was appointed Minister of the Environment and Drainage in June 2011, having held those posts and the additional portfolio of Water Resources since November 2008. He was re-appointed as Minister of the Environment and Drainage on February 28, 2013.

He previously held the portfolio of Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development.
Before assuming this ministerial portfolio, he was Managing Director and Principal Consultant with Life View International. Dr. Lowe has worked extensively with the University of Cincinnati (his tertiary alma mater) and in the state of Ohio in varying capacities, all with a focus on social development.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, which he obtained in 1984. A year later, he achieved his Masters in Education from the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Developmental Psychology with a minor in Social Science Research and Policy Development. He was awarded a Doctorate in Education from the same university in 1989. Again, his major was Developmental Psychology, but his minor had changed to Educational Research.

Dr. Lowe is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Barbados and a Certified HIV and AIDS Educator with the American Red Cross at the Drew University School of Medicine.
He has participated in several research projects from 1988 to 1996 which included issues such as cocaine use during pregnancy, teens in crisis, community involvement in the fight against substance abuse, and the social climate in integrated schools.

Dr. Lowe has also delivered several presentations and executed many training projects here in Barbados and in the USA. Some of these presentations include: "Perinatal Substance Abuse: The Residential Experience"; "Advantages of Careers in Education"; "Principles of Productive Living"; and "Stress Management".

  29. @David,

What is the legal certification that MAM is supposed to have?

Are all lawyers in Barbados required to have one?

  30. Dr. Lowe.

  31. Dennis Lowe , instead of holding up his Doctoral Certificate, would have been better off displaying his Birth Certificate, and /or his parents marriage certificate, because in the eyes of most right thinking Barbadians , he is a Bastard, a slick one.

  32. It is quite strange that when the BLP was questioning this fraud about his PHD back in 2003 he was about to lodge a case against them in the Supreme Court for defamation and could not produce a document for the attorney to continue the case. It was with drawn.. He was supposed to have had this so called PHD in theology from a Christian University all of a sudden he has it in Education from U of Cincinatti.. David Thompson told us as far back as 1996 that he was a liar and did not have a PHD that is why he would always call him Denis…
